4. Controversy and promotion
Many artists like to take their music videos to an extreme in order to create a storm in order
to promote their single/album or tour. Take Miley Cyrus for example, back in 2013 she
broke
the record for the most views in 24 hours from her ‘Wrecking Ball’ video, the world saw the
artist swing around completely naked on a wrecking ball and sexually licking a hammer.
Miley described this video as a ‘strategic hot mess’, in order to create a stir and get
everyone talking about her, initially to promote herself, as it was a shock difference from
her Disney days as Hannah Montana. Her video promoted her song as it broke records on
Vevo and sent her song straight to number one in almost every country.
Many artists of today compete for the next best music video in order to promote
themselves and their work, it thrives people to want to listen to their music and go to their
tours, as they find them interesting and look forward to what they are going to do next.
