Alley Project to Start Soon!
The Alley Project Committee met recently, and we’re excited about the interest and
support that has been shown for this awesome undertaking. The first alley to be
“activated” is South Court Street, between Smith Realty and Leanne’s Cake Creations.
Several proposals for artwork were submitted, including one from very talented Enrique
Gonzalez. We have met with Enrique and chosen him to create a mural that we know
will generate excitement for this project! He is full of enthusiasm and has the blessing of
building owner Rebecca Sams. A sample of his work is shown below.
Plans for an archway at the entrance to the
alley are also underway, with blessing from
building owner Doug Smith. Local ornamental
ironworker John Carter has designed the arch
and hopes to complete it for installation this
Fall.
To date, $1400 has been received or pledged to begin these two components of the
project. However, $1950 more is needed to complete them. Funds will also be needed
for additional artwork, lighting, possible window embellishments, appropriate landscap-
ing, and any other features that could make
this alley an attractive pedestrian walkway.
Please support this project to transform our
alleys into the safe, beautiful public places
they can be! Every bit helps, and every bit
keeps the momentum going!
