The document discusses research on conventions for rap/hip-hop CD covers. It analyzes covers of artists Sneakbo and T.I. as inspiration. Key elements of covers discussed include location, artist posture/expression, clothing, edits/effects, props, and meanings conveyed. Majority of covers contain a parental advisory logo due to explicit lyrics. Analyzing other artists' covers helps develop ideas for one's own CD digipack parts like cover, booklet, back cover.
2. In order to make our digipack products of a CD cover and
press-ad, I would need to research the conventions of
rap/hip-hop CD first.
I have used the internet and found
some related searches which is
useful to analyse and make for my
own CD. I have chosen 'Sneakbo's CD Sneakbo’s CD cover
cover to remotely match the images I
took for my CD front cover, CD back
cover, booklet, in-lay and CD
individually. Sneakbo is a signed
artist from South London who many
rap/hip-hop fans in the UK and
worldwide listen to, so I chose him as
an inspiration.
3. …and used rapper T.I CD cover from the United
States!
There are many aspects to consider when
producing a CD and these consist of;
• The use of the location
• Posture of the artist
• Eye-contact
• Clothing
• Edits
• Props
• Meaning of the image
All these elements would make every part of the CD cover,
In-Lay, booklet and back cover so researching other rap/hip-
hop artists would help build my own ideas for each of the
parts of my CD digipack.
4. In majority of rap/hip-hop CD covers
there is a parental advisory logo
which I will include as a convention of
a typical rap/hip-hop CD cover. The
logo is used on albums if the
songs contain excessive use of
profane language and/or sexual
references, in which case my artist's
song's does contain these elements.
The logo is also a marketing tool.
