5. •India is second in the world in crop output, next to China.
• India’s Agriculture area is 60.5% ,Agriculture and Allied Sectors
contribute nearly 22% of GDP.
• Horticultural crops occupy 10% of Gross cropped area and
producing 160.75 m tones. Total production of fruits is at 49.36 m
tones and vegetables is at 93 m tones.
• India in International market :-
India – 1st in Sugarcane production, cashew nut production,
banana production (1.16 MT), Milk production.(108.5 MT),
production of Tea, Vegetables.
India – 2nd in silk production
India – 4th largest producer of natural rubber
India – 5th in egg production
India – 6th in Fish production.

• India is the largest producer of jute.
• The country is the second largest silk manufacturer contributing to
18% of the total raw silk production.
• India presently produces 4.59 million tonnes of cotton with 27 million
bales of 170 kgs each which constitutes 18% of the world cotton
production.
•India’s rich cultural diversity and heritage provides a unique and huge
resource for developing craft products.
• The Indian Handicraft Industry is showing continuous growth rate of
20% every year.
