1. 3D Construction
Challenge
My task was to make a 3D shapes by using toothpicks and marshmallows.
I used toothpicks to represent edges and marshmallows to represent vertices. Based on
the clues given, I solved the problems by creating the following models:
A cube, which had 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices
A Square pyramid, which had 4 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices
A pentagonal prism, which had 7 faces, 15 edges and 10 vertices
A pentagonal pyramid, which had 6 faces, 10 edges and 6 vertices
A hexagonal pyramid, which had 7 faces, 10 edges and 6 vertices
It was fun to make shapes with marshmallows. It was challenging to think about the
shape in my head and how many edges it had. This task made me think about how to
use marshmallow with sticks in maths.
During this task, I learned more about making the shapes with marshmallows and
sticking them together.
I still have questions about how to make 20 sided shape with marshmallows. Next, I
would like to investigate making 20 sided shapes and objects.
