The experience of breast cancer today is different of any other illness. 'Pink culture' and has shaped the nature of breast cancer activism along with the
experience of breast cancer for the rising number of women diagnosed with the disease and can be seen in a variety of ways. First, looking at how
corporations have effectively drained and deflected meaningful activism through the 'pink–washing' and commodification of breast cancer shows how
easy it is to overlook the real issues with nice packaging and presentation. Building on this culture, there are reinforced gendered expectations

didn't mean anything to me, and neither did the purse. The only thing cute about it was the pink ribbon in the corner, but that wasn't enough for me to
flaunt it around everywhere. Cancer to me was a death sentence. If the doctor told you that you had cancer, you were going to die, it was that simple.
Cancer was something that was never going to happen to me or to anyone I loved. It just didn't happen that way. I guess you could say we, myself
and my loved ones, were invincible. It didn't take long though, for cancer to become a trip to the emergency room after my mom had severe back pain.
Cancer was a pain, one that didn't ever go away. Cancer was a heartless doctor explaining my mom's expiration date. Two weeks, the doc said my
mom would be lucky if she lived that long. Cancer had not only been in her breast, but in her bones, lung, liver, and skin as well. Cancer was a

company or organization that claims to care about breast cancer by promoting a pink ribbon product, but at the same time produces, manufactures and
/or sells products that are linked to the disease.
These companies all give themselves a pat on the back for "spreading awareness," but all the while they are really just profiting off of breast cancer.
Example one: In 2010, Dansko Shoe Company sold pink ribbon clogs. Consumers likely thought that a portion of their purchase of pink ribbon clogs
went to a breast cancer program. However, purchase of the pink ribbon clogs was not connected to Dansko's donation–none of the portion of the sales
went toward their already set donation of $25,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. No matter whether or not you bought the clogs, their donation was
the same.
Example two: In 2010, Reebok marketed a line of pink ribbon emblazoned footwear and apparel at prices ranging from$50 to $100. Though it heavily

Introduction
On August 17, 2015, I had the opportunity to attend Fayetteville Technical Community College's (FTCC) ribbon cutting of their campus cafeteria. Not
only was the ribbon cutting taking place, but the revealing of the campus cafeteria name was designated for this event as well. Trojan Eatery, symbolic
of the campus mascot, was derived from Michael Morrison a student who submitted the winning name of the new cafeteria. This paper discusses my
reflection of a community group visit as it relates to the purpose of the group, the theory underpinning the group, a discussion of the leadership, and

Keen the president of FTCC gave a speech, but while he was giving the speech campus security was visible making sure participants could hear Dr.
Keen and that everyone was safe. Campus security was also awaiting the arrival of participants such as FTCC campus board members, saving parking
spaces for these individuals, and guiding them to the main event location. In addition, other staff members assisted with ensuring students and
individuals within the community had appropriate directions to the event. Customer service is an imperative part of any group, and there was a photo
booth set up that allowed participants the opportunity to receive a free portrait keychain that would assist as a discount ticket when utilized at the Trojan
Eatery. It was enjoyable watching the different dynamics that the group had to offer, the culinary department served fruit, cake, and water free of
charge, campus security had the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the participants and providing directions, students enjoyed the free food and
taking portraits, and staff enjoyed the event as well.

After having the opportunity to complete my community group reflection visit, there were questions that needed attention, those being:
1)Where were the contractors, interior designers, and architect? Why were they not included in the opening of the Trojan Eatery? Were they not invited?

Many women are experiencing violence against them, whether it be physical, mental, or verbal. According to Kirk, Terry, Lokuge, and Watterson,
"Violence against women (VAW) is a major issue worldwide, with an estimated 35% of women, or roughly 1 in 3, experiencing either physical and/or
sexual intimate partner violence or non–partner sexual violence in their lifetime" (p. 2). There have been many groups that have been created to combat

has created the world's largest movement of men and boys who share a few common goals. Those goals are ending violence against women and girls,
promoting gender equity, building healthy relationships, and redefining society's view of masculinity. According to the White Ribbon website, in
1991, they asked supporters to wear white ribbons, signifying their pledge to the group. Each member had to pledge to never commit, condone, or

Memories can last a life time, so we tend to only remember the extraordinary ones. Extraordinary like the essay "The Yellow Ribbon" by Pete
Hamill, in which he talks about how a person named Vingo, was riding on a, bus recently released from jail, to this oak tree explaining to some
passengers that he had told his wife to leave him if she wanted, since he went to jail or to go to this oak tree and tie a yellow ribbon around it to see
if she wants him to stick around and he will go and check it out. In the end, he saw hundreds of ribbons tied on to the tree. Not only is this an amazing
story, but also very unforgettable one as well, because he finds out that after four years in jail his wife has enoughlove for him to go to this tree and tie
hundreds of ribbons just to show the type of love the women had for Vingo. I have to say that, I believe this story is truly unforgettable, but I also
got a story that is very extraordinary, like the time that I got my very first car. Furthermore, I didn't just get a car, I got the love of two truly loving
parents. Much like Mr. Hamill and his story about love I too have a love story that involves not my wife, but my parents. When I got to the age of
driving, and around the time to go to college I wasn't expecting any type of car of any sort because I knew that my family just had enough money to
