Teaching approach: The lesson is based on the communicative approach.
Pedagogical use of ICT in class: In this lesson plan, students will watch a video which is available
at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQzFpP4FSN4.
The video will be downloaded to my computer, just in case there is no internet connection.
Materials: images for activity 1, video, computer, projector, loudspeakers, 25 worksheets of activity
3, 25 worksheets of activity 4, 25 worksheets of activity 5, 25 worksheets of activity 6.
Seating arrangement: Since the beginning of the lesson students will sit individually. Then, from
activity 3 on, they will work in pairs. As there are 25 students, there will be a group of three.
Cooperative work: During activities 3, 4, 5 and 6 students will work in pairs. Although those
activities can be done individually, I decided to allow students to work in pairs, so that they can
collaborate with each other, share their knowledge and doubts.
Possible problems / difficulties and their possible solutions during the class: Sometimes
there is no internet connection or the computers are not available, therefore I will take my own
equipment and the video will be downloaded to my computer.
Potential problems students may have with the language: Students may find the text a bit
difficult. Therefore, I will guide the pre reading stage. These simple activities will help students to
achieve a better comprehension.
Assessment: what will be assessed and how: As they are working, I will assess their written
productions by using ticks and crosses. In addition, I will asses students ‘oral participation during
the class. I will take register of students ‘work during the class.
Routine ( 5 min)
I will get in to the class, and I´ll greet my students. As always, I will say: “Good morning. How are
you?” EA: Good morning.
Warm up (5 min)
In order to introduce the use of will to make predictions without evidence, I will write on the
blackboard: “In ten years more, there will be girls in our school. What do you think?” I expect my
students to express their ideas.
Transition: Well, only time will tell us if our predictions were right!
Development (63 min)
Presentation (10 min)
In order to introduce the target structure, I will write the following sentences on the blackboard.
IN 2025...
HE WILL BE A LAWYER.
HE WILL BE A PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL PLAYER.
HE WILL BE A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYER.
HE WILL GET MARRIED.
HE WILL HAVE 4 CHILDREN.
HE WILL BE A TEACHER OF ENGLISH.
HE WILL BE AN ENGINEER.
HE WILL BE A DOCTOR.
I will comment that the sentences on the blackboard are my predictions about their lives. And that
they have to guess who the students are. I will say: Who will be a lawyer? EA: Geronimo. OK.
Maybe, Geronimo will be a lawyer. And I will replace the pronoun he by the name of the student. If
students say more than one name, I will also write it. I will do the same with the following
sentences.
Finally, I will ask: is there any evidence on the present that allows us to think that the predictions
will be true? EA: NO. T: Perfect, there is no evidence that lets us predict. We are just predicting
what we think; therefore, we use Will”
Transition: Fantastic! As, some of you will be doctors and others will be engineers,
let´s talk about future discoveries!
Activity 1 (5 min)
In order to practice the target structure I will display the following photos on the
blackboard.
I will say: In my opinion, scientists will find a cure for cancer. What do you think? (As
I say this, I will point at the second photo) I expect students to say whether they
agree or not with my prediction.
Then, I will ask them to look at the following photos and make their own predictions. I
expect them to raise their hands and say what they think. Then, I will ask to the
class if they agree or not with the ideas. I expect students to use the target
structure. However, if they do not do it, I will repeat the sentence correctly.
Transition: Great! Again, only time will tell us if our predictions were right!
Activity 2: (5 min)
I will write the word “Nano” on the blackboard and ask students what the word means. I am not
sure if they will know. If they can guess, I will write their ideas on the blackboard and I will invite
them to watch the following video in order to check their predictions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQzFpP4FSN4
After they watch the video, I will ask: So, What is a nano? EA: something small. I will follow:
“Good. A nano is a billion of a meter “
Then, I will change the word” NANO” into “NANOTECHNOLOGY” and say: So, what do you think
nanotechnology is? EA: small technology. T: Good!
Transition: well, let´s read about nanotechnology.
Activity 3: (20 min)
Pre reading stage is necessary in order to help students to understand the text. Therefore, I will
give them a photocopy of the text and I will ask them to read the title and to look at the picture. I
will say: who are those people? What are they doing? EA: scientists, researchers, they are
investigating. T: Good, they are scientists and they are working with nanotechnology. Then, I will
ask: What do you think the text will be about? EA: technology, nanotechnology.
After that, I will ask students to read the first paragraph. After they finish reading, I will write on
the blackboard: “What is nanotechnology used for?” I expect students to say: It is used for
beneficial causes. T: Perfect! Now, let´s discover some of those causes.
Then, I will ask them to join another classmate. They are going to work in pairs. I will explain: The
only paragraph in its place is number one. You have to read the text and put each paragraph in the
correct order. At this stage, I will encourage students to read the whole text first and then to put
paragraphs in order. I will also insist on the importance of deducing meaning from context. As they
are working, I will walk through the desks, proving help with lexis and monitoring their work.
NANOTECHNOLOGY
BIG THINGS FROM A TINY WORLD
Think small. Think very, very small. Smaller than anything you ever saw through a
microscope at school. Think atoms and molecules, and now, you are there. You are
there at the nanoscale, where scientists and engineers are studying these
components and using them for beneficial causes that will improve the world in
which we live.
Researchers are manipulating materials with caution because they are conscious
that all technologies have impact in our lives, and along with the benefits, there may
be risks. Due to their careful work, there will not be undesirable consequences.
What is more, this technology will help to detect and treat diseases more
effectively, and in this way cure some illnesses such as cancer or diabetes.
Nanotechnology is a relatively new area of science that has generated excitement
worldwide. Working at the nanoscale today, scientists and engineers will create
tools, products and technologies to address the world´s biggest challenges.
Because of the promise that nanotechnology will improve lives and contribute to
economic growth, the Federal Government is supporting research in
nanotechnology. The researchers are studying new behaviours and properties of
materials when they are at nanoscale. Therefore, working with nanotechnology
implies the ability of manipulating those materials and controlling them for useful
purposes.
Among the great things that nanotechnology will probably do, it will allow us to
have clean, secure and affordable energy. It will also help to develop stronger
materials and filters to provide clean drinking water to the whole humanity.

Answer:
NANOTECHNOLOGY
BIG THINGS FROM A TINY WORLD
Think small. Think very, very small. Smaller than anything you ever saw through a microscope at
school. Think atoms and molecules, and now, you are there. You are there at the nanoscale, where
scientists and engineers are studying these components and using them for beneficial causes that
will improve the world in which we live.
Nanotechnology is a relatively new area of science that has generated excitement worldwide.
Working at the nanoscale today, scientists and engineers will create tools, products and
technologies to address the world´s biggest challenges.
Among the great things that nanotechnology will probably do, it will allow us to have clean, secure
and affordable energy. It will also help to develop stronger materials and filters to provide clean
drinking water to the whole humanity.
What is more, this technology will help to detect and treat diseases more effectively, and in this way
cure some illnesses such as cancer or diabetes.
Because of the promise that nanotechnology will improve lives and contribute to economic growth,
the Federal Government is supporting research in nanotechnology. The researchers are studying
new behaviours and properties of materials when they are at nanoscale. In other words, working
with nanotechnology implies the ability of manipulating different materials and controlling them for
useful purposes.
Researchers are manipulating materials with caution because they are conscious that all
technologies have impact in our lives, and along with the benefits, there may be risks. Due to their
careful work, there will not be undesirable consequences.
After each group has finished, I will say: Now, let´s read the text aloud in the correct order. I will
begin by reading the title and the first paragraph and after that I will name a different students for
each paragraph.
Transition: Fantastic! You did it!
Activity 4 (7 min)
This activity will allow students to work with vocabulary and in doing so, it will help students to
understand the text better. I will explain: Now, you are going to work with the words in italics. You
will have to deduce the meaning from the context and match it to their definition.
Students will not be able to use their dictionaries. As they are working I will be monitoring their
work and helping them if they need help. When students finish, I will correct their activity. I will
use ticks for correct answers and crosses for wrong ones. Whenever I find wrong matches, I will
ask them to revise.
Activity: Match the words with their definitions.
AFFORDABLE To become better; to make sth/sb better than before
BENEFIT To help sth to be successful, by giving it Money.
CAUTION Cheap enough for most people to pay
FILTER Very small in size
IMPROVE Advantage that sth. gives you; a helpful and useful effect that sth. has.
SUPPORT Affecting all parts of the world:
TINY Care that you take in order to avoid danger or mistakes
WORLDWIDE Device in which liquid or gas is passed through in order to remove any
materials that are not wanted.
NOTE: All the definitions were taken Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary- 7th
edition
Answers:
AFFORDABLE: Cheap enough for most people to pay
BENEFIT: Advantage that sth. gives you; a helpful and useful effect that sth. has.
CAUTION: Care that you take in order to avoid danger or mistakes
FILTER: Device in which liquid or gas is passed through in order to remove any
materials that are not wanted.
IMPROVE: To become better; to make sth/sb better than before
SUPPORT: To help sth to be successful, by giving it money.
TINY: Very small in size
WORLDWIDE: Affecting all parts of the world
Transition: Good work boys!
Activity 5: ( 10 min)
In order to work with the target structure and to check comprehension of the text, I will give
students the following activity. I will explain: Now, you are going to complete the sentences using
an appropriate verb from the box and the correct form of “Will”
As students are working in pairs, I will allow them to go on working in this way. As they work, I will
help if it is necessary.
Activity: Choose a verb from the box and use Will/ Will not (won´t). Make correct sentences.
1- Nanotechnology .................................................... to economic growth.
2- Scientists and engineers .................................................... technologies to improve our
world.
3- Nanotechnology.................................................... us the possibility of having affordable
energy.
4- Nanotechnology ....................................................doctors to treat serious illnesses.
5- According to the text, there ................................................. undesirable consequenses.
After students finish, I will ask them to correct sentences. I will name different students to copy
the sentences on the blackbaord. I will say: Ramiro, can you copy sentence number 1 on the
blackboard, please? Then, I will ask the class: Is Ramiro´s sentence Ok? I will repeat the same with
all the sentences.
Transition: Let´s move to our last activity!
Activity 6: ( 6 min)
BE- MAKE- CONTRIBUTE- HELP- GIVE
Students will do the following activity so that they practice the interrogative for of the Future
simple. I will say: Now, you have to make questions about the text using the words given. As this
structure has not been practiced yet, I will model the first one on the blackboard.
As they are working, I will walk and assess their work. Again, I will use ticks and crosses for correct
and wrong sentences.
Activity: Write questions using the words given.
1- nanotechnology/ Will/ beneficial/ be/ all of us/for/?
..........................................................................................................................
2- doctors/ Will/ treat/ nanotechnology/ilnessess/ with?
..........................................................................................................................
3- Will/ face/ consequences/undesireble/researchers?
..........................................................................................................................
Homework (3min)
For homerwork students will have to answer the questions using the information of the text. I will
say: Well, as a homework answer the questions and bring them the following class.
Closure( 4 min)
I will ask students to order their desks. Then, I will say: Good work! Now, remember to do the
homework! See you next class!

  • 1. Alumno Residente: Restivo Gisela Período de Práctica: Nivel Secundario. Institución: Colegio Salesiano Deán Funes Dirección: Don Bosco 350- Comodoro Rivadavia Sala / Grado / Año - sección: 4to año Cantidad de alumnos: 25 Nivel lingüístico del curso: Pre-Intermediate Tipo de Planificación: clase Unidad Temática: Haciendo planes! Clase Nº: 1 Fecha: 8 de Septiembre Hora: 9 a 10.20 hs. Duración de la clase: 80 minutos Teaching points: Future simple Aims: During this lesson, learners will be able to:  Predict future events by using future simple with “will”.  Develop their listening skills by watching a video.  Develop their reading skills by reading a text about nanotechnology. Language focus: LEXIS FUNCTION STRUCTURE PRONUNCIATION REVISION Expressing opinion. In my opinion... NEW Affordable, benefits, caution, filter, improve, nano, nanotechnology support, tiny, worldwide. Prediciting. Cars will... Scientist won´t /wəl/ /wəʊnt/ Teaching approach: The lesson is based on the communicative approach. Pedagogical use of ICT in class: In this lesson plan, students will watch a video which is available at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQzFpP4FSN4. The video will be downloaded to my computer, just in case there is no internet connection.
  • 2. Materials: images for activity 1, video, computer, projector, loudspeakers, 25 worksheets of activity 3, 25 worksheets of activity 4, 25 worksheets of activity 5, 25 worksheets of activity 6. Seating arrangement: Since the beginning of the lesson students will sit individually. Then, from activity 3 on, they will work in pairs. As there are 25 students, there will be a group of three. Cooperative work: During activities 3, 4, 5 and 6 students will work in pairs. Although those activities can be done individually, I decided to allow students to work in pairs, so that they can collaborate with each other, share their knowledge and doubts. Possible problems / difficulties and their possible solutions during the class: Sometimes there is no internet connection or the computers are not available, therefore I will take my own equipment and the video will be downloaded to my computer. Potential problems students may have with the language: Students may find the text a bit difficult. Therefore, I will guide the pre reading stage. These simple activities will help students to achieve a better comprehension. Assessment: what will be assessed and how: As they are working, I will assess their written productions by using ticks and crosses. In addition, I will asses students ‘oral participation during the class. I will take register of students ‘work during the class.
  • 3. Routine ( 5 min) I will get in to the class, and I´ll greet my students. As always, I will say: “Good morning. How are you?” EA: Good morning. Warm up (5 min) In order to introduce the use of will to make predictions without evidence, I will write on the blackboard: “In ten years more, there will be girls in our school. What do you think?” I expect my students to express their ideas. Transition: Well, only time will tell us if our predictions were right! Development (63 min) Presentation (10 min) In order to introduce the target structure, I will write the following sentences on the blackboard. And that they have to guess who the students are. I will say: Who will be a lawyer? EA: Geronimo. OK. Maybe, Geronimo will be a lawyer. And I will replace the pronoun he by the name of the student. If students say more than one name, I will also write it. I will do the same with the following sentences. Finally, I will ask: is there any evidence on the present that allows us to think that the predictions will be true? EA: NO. T: Perfect, there is no evidence that lets us predict. We are just predicting what we think; therefore, we use Will”
  • 4. Transition: Fantastic! As, some of you will be doctors and others will be engineers, let´s talk about future discoveries! Activity 1 (5 min) In order to practice the target structure I will display the following photos on the blackboard. I will say: In my opinion, scientists will find a cure for cancer. What do you think? (As I say this, I will point at the second photo) I expect students to say whether they agree or not with my prediction. Then, I will ask them to look at the following photos and make their own predictions. I expect them to raise their hands and say what they think. Then, I will ask to the class if they agree or not with the ideas. I expect students to use the target structure. However, if they do not do it, I will repeat the sentence correctly. Transition: Great! Again, only time will tell us if our predictions were right!
  • 5. Activity 2: (5 min) I will write the word “Nano” on the blackboard and ask students what the word means. I am not sure if they will know. If they can guess, I will write their ideas on the blackboard and I will invite them to watch the following video in order to check their predictions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQzFpP4FSN4 After they watch the video, I will ask: So, What is a nano? EA: something small. I will follow: “Good. A nano is a billion of a meter “ Then, I will change the word” NANO” into “NANOTECHNOLOGY” and say: So, what do you think nanotechnology is? EA: small technology. T: Good! Transition: well, let´s read about nanotechnology. Activity 3: (20 min) Pre reading stage is necessary in order to help students to understand the text. Therefore, I will give them a photocopy of the text and I will ask them to read the title and to look at the picture. I will say: who are those people? What are they doing? EA: scientists, researchers, they are investigating. T: Good, they are scientists and they are working with nanotechnology. Then, I will ask: What do you think the text will be about? EA: technology, nanotechnology. After that, I will ask students to read the first paragraph. After they finish reading, I will write on the blackboard: “What is nanotechnology used for?” I expect students to say: It is used for beneficial causes. T: Perfect! Now, let´s discover some of those causes. Then, I will ask them to join another classmate. They are going to work in pairs. I will explain: The only paragraph in its place is number one. You have to read the text and put each paragraph in the correct order. At this stage, I will encourage students to read the whole text first and then to put paragraphs in order. I will also insist on the importance of deducing meaning from context. As they are working, I will walk through the desks, proving help with lexis and monitoring their work.
  • 6. NANOTECHNOLOGY BIG THINGS FROM A TINY WORLD Think small. Think very, very small. Smaller than anything you ever saw through a microscope at school. Think atoms and molecules, and now, you are there. You are there at the nanoscale, where scientists and engineers are studying these components and using them for beneficial causes that will improve the world in which we live. Researchers are manipulating materials with caution because they are conscious that all technologies have impact in our lives, and along with the benefits, there may be risks. Due to their careful work, there will not be undesirable consequences. What is more, this technology will help to detect and treat diseases more effectively, and in this way cure some illnesses such as cancer or diabetes. Nanotechnology is a relatively new area of science that has generated excitement worldwide. Working at the nanoscale today, scientists and engineers will create tools, products and technologies to address the world´s biggest challenges. Because of the promise that nanotechnology will improve lives and contribute to economic growth, the Federal Government is supporting research in nanotechnology. The researchers are studying new behaviours and properties of materials when they are at nanoscale. Therefore, working with nanotechnology implies the ability of manipulating those materials and controlling them for useful purposes. Among the great things that nanotechnology will probably do, it will allow us to have clean, secure and affordable energy. It will also help to develop stronger materials and filters to provide clean drinking water to the whole humanity. Taken and adapted from: https://www.nano.gov/node/240 1

Because of the promise that nanotechnology will improve lives and contribute to economic growth, the Federal Government is supporting research in nanotechnology. The researchers are studying new behaviours and properties of materials when they are at nanoscale. In other words, working with nanotechnology implies the ability of manipulating different materials and controlling them for useful purposes. Researchers are manipulating materials with caution because they are conscious that all technologies have impact in our lives, and along with the benefits, there may be risks. Due to their careful work, there will not be undesirable consequences. After each group has finished, I will say: Now, let´s read the text aloud in the correct order. I will begin by reading the title and the first paragraph and after that I will name a different students for each paragraph. Transition: Fantastic! You did it! Activity 4 (7 min)
  • 8. This activity will allow students to work with vocabulary and in doing so, it will help students to understand the text better. I will explain: Now, you are going to work with the words in italics. You will have to deduce the meaning from the context and match it to their definition. Students will not be able to use their dictionaries. As they are working I will be monitoring their work and helping them if they need help. When students finish, I will correct their activity. I will use ticks for correct answers and crosses for wrong ones. Whenever I find wrong matches, I will ask them to revise. Activity: Match the words with their definitions. TINY: Very small in size WORLDWIDE: Affecting all parts of the world Transition: Good work boys! Activity 5: ( 10 min) In order to work with the target structure and to check comprehension of the text, I will give students the following activity. I will explain: Now, you are going to complete the sentences using an appropriate verb from the box and the correct form of “Will” As students are working in pairs, I will allow them to go on working in this way. As they work, I will help if it is necessary. Activity: Choose a verb from the box and use Will/ Will not (won´t). Make correct sentences. 1- Nanotechnology .................................................... to economic growth. 2- Scientists and engineers .................................................... technologies to improve our world. 3- Nanotechnology.................................................... us the possibility of having affordable energy. 4- Nanotechnology ....................................................doctors to treat serious illnesses. 5- According to the text, there ................................................. undesirable consequenses. After students finish, I will ask them to correct sentences. I will name different students to copy the sentences on the blackbaord. I will say: Ramiro, can you copy sentence number 1 on the blackboard, please? Then, I will ask the class: Is Ramiro´s sentence Ok? I will repeat the same with all the sentences. Transition: Let´s move to our last activity! Activity 6: ( 6 min) BE- MAKE- CONTRIBUTE- HELP- GIVE
  • 10. Students will do the following activity so that they practice the interrogative for of the Future simple. I will say: Now, you have to make questions about the text using the words given. As this structure has not been practiced yet, I will model the first one on the blackboard. As they are working, I will walk and assess their work. Again, I will use ticks and crosses for correct and wrong sentences. Activity: Write questions using the words given. 1- nanotechnology/ Will/ beneficial/ be/ all of us/for/? .......................................................................................................................... 2- doctors/ Will/ treat/ nanotechnology/ilnessess/ with? .......................................................................................................................... 3- Will/ face/ consequences/undesireble/researchers? ..........................................................................................................................
