Ossie Davis was an American actor, director, poet, playwright, writer, and social activist who died in 2005 at the age of 87. He was born in 1917 in Cordell, Georgia to parents Kince Charles Davis, a railroad construction engineer, and Laurence Cooper. As a black actor, he initially faced challenges only being able to portray stereotypical characters but went on to have a successful career in acting.
