1. May 2012 Volume 1 (4)
Dear {!Contact.Name}
Spring into "the know" with the May edition of CentreLearn’s Train Better Memo Series.
This month, we're focusing on customizing evaluation properties and ways to construct an
outstanding quiz. Some tips for quiz construction include standards for multiple choice
questions, as well as steps to include audio and images. We also asked ourselves a few
questions regarding the CentreLearn Customer Support framework, and after thorough
analysis, upgrades have been implemented to maximize your customer experience. And
speaking of questions, what topics would you like us to cover on the CentreLearn blog or
in the June Train Better Memo? Please reply to this email or contact us with your
inquiries!
Customizing Evaluation Properties with CentreLearn LMS
Educators and training officers use evaluations as tools to assess knowledge, and we'd
like you to be aware of the many ways you can adjust evaluation properties to suit your
needs. Simply click here for a step-by-step guide on everything from creating a brand new
evaluation to generating a competency based learning plan.
Standards for Multiple Choice Quiz Questions
All of the CentreLearn CE course quiz questions are written to meet or exceed the
standards of CECBEMS, the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency
Medical Services. Below you'll find a few examples of ways to meet CECBEMS
standards:
Include quiz stems that are either a direct question or an incomplete statement.
Do not include All of the Above or None of the Above responses.
Include responses that are similar in length.
For a complete list, please click here to read the CentreLearn blog post.
Adding Audio/Images to Quiz Questions
Were you aware that you can embellish question stems and answers with audio and
images in the CentreLearn LMS? Encourage students’ interest in subject matter by
adding sounds and visual aids, from heartbeat examples, to patient monitoring care and
equipment, among many others. For a brief how-to, click here for more information.
Quiz Question Construction Tips
How do we know our students are learning and applying our content? One way is to test
them. For the online education courses that are distributed through CentreLearn, we write
quizzes to assess knowledge gained. When writing multiple choice quizzes, certain rules
should be followed. Read on for a few examples of rules to keep in mind; a complete list
is available on the CentreLearn blog:
Assess for lifelong knowledge not rote memorization. Avoid quizzing on dates or
2. trivial facts.
Start all questions using a question word like: who, when, where, what, why and
how.
