4. 1) Traditional Surrogate:
A woman who is artificially inseminated with an intended
father’s sperm is a traditional surrogate. She will carry the
baby for the intended parents. As soon as the baby is born,
she will hand it over to the parents. In simpler words,
traditional surrogate will be the biological mother of the
baby. In certain cases donor sperm can also be used for a
traditional surrogacy.
5. 2. Gestational Surrogates:
In vitro fertilization or the IVF has made it possible to get
eggs from the intended mother and fertilize it with the
sperm of the father. This embryo is then placed in the
uterus of a surrogate. This is surrogate will be known as
the gestational surrogate. She will be known as the birth
mother as she has given birth and not used her eggs like
the traditional surrogate.
