Worker Profile
Have you ever find a person vocation and job like your dream
job and your vocation? Not only that, also your cousin and your
life experience adviser? To begin with, I’m going to interview
my cousin. His first name is Hashim, and his last name is
Alshurafa.Hashim is great hand ball, track and field player, and
a wonderful surgeon. He is one of my models because I see him
kind of super hero. Furthermore, hashim knew how to manage
his time well, so he made a balance of all his vocation in
successes way. Moreover he giving me a lot of advice when I
need, also my vocation as his vocation, so I’m trying to follow
his steps and his rule. Also I like his job and vocation because
I’m an athletic like him, but my sport areas in Track and field is
a race walking, and I have my achievement in that’s area such
as, I’m the fastest person in K.S.A in race walking, so the Saudi
race walk record under my name, and I got a bronze medal In
Arabian championship, and I did the limit to enroll in world cup
of race walking. Moreover, because I have a renal
transplantation, I would love to be a nephrology doctor as
Hashim. In addition, all his steps of education very doctors
should follow it. No doctor can be consultant before he /she do
those step. My plan to do as what Hasim did or any doctor are
the following:-
First of all, studying 4 years any major with premed
requirements, many volunteer in health field, The Medical
College Admission Test. Secondly, study 4 years in medical
school. 2years learning by attending lectures while other 2 years
are clinically. Thirdly we have to apply for the doctoral
reticently in internal medicine for 3 years and get the internal
medicine specialist license as what hashim did. Final step we
have to apply for fellowship in Nephrology that’s take 2 years
and then a short lessen and practice in 1 year of transplantation.
Hashim studied his Elementary school in in his hometown
Safwa which call Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib Elementary School
then he went to University of Toronto to study Kinesiology and
Premed there. After that, he was studying his Internal Medicine
degree in Saskatoon University and reticently of Royal
University Hospital in Saskatchewan, Canada. Then he went to
London Ontario to study and practice his fellowship in
Nephrology consultant degree in Western Ontario University,
also he worked as a fellowship student in London Health
Sciences Hospital. After he graduate, he worked in Saudi Arabia
King Fahad Specialist Hospital. Because those reasons, I’m
Interviewer him.
Formal Interview section,
Welcome Mr. Alfrdan. I am surgeon Alshurafa, a nephrologists.
As what did you know in my worker profile, and he support his
idea by Nephrology is came from a Greek word called nephrons
wish is the kidney, and after the nephro word came -logy which
means the study of it. It's a specialty of medicine and pediatrics
that majors itself with the study of normal kidney function, the
treatment of kidney problems, kidney problems and renal
replacement therapy i.e. dialysis and kidney transplantation.
Basic physiology and kidney function that affect the kidneys
such as diabetes, immune system disease and systemic
problems that happen as the result of kidney problems such as
renal osteodystrophy and high blood pressure. There are also
studied in nephrology. A physician who has undertaken
additional training to become an expert in nephrology may call
themselves a nephrologist or renal physician. Mr. Alfrdan this is
kind of summary of an over view of nephrology. Nephrology
study is a wonderful and more interesting field. Also he is
really interesting in it by saying nephrology and renal
transplantation has been what I thought the best career I could
afford to help humanity. Furthermore, it’s a really wide area,
but much more interesting for those who are serious. Therefore,
Nephrology worry the diagnosis and treatment of the kidney
diseases, including renal chronic disease and high blood
pressure, and the care of those need a renal replacement
therapy. Including a dialysis and renal transplantation to the
patients. Many diseases affecting the kidney are systemic
disorders not limited to the organ itself, and need many special
treatment. Examples including a gain conditions such as system
of vasculatures. Vasculitis and immune system diseases. Lupus,
as well as since the human born or genetic conditions such as
polycystic kidney disease.
Patients are suggest to see the nephrology specialists for many
different reasons, such as sharp renal failure, chronic kidney
disease, hematuria, proteinuria, kidney stones, high blood
pressure and disorders of base acid. This show more of the
definition which I told you about it earlier. Furthermore,
Alshurafa would describe the nephrology doctors and their work
field as the nephrologist is the physician who has undertaken
additional training to become an expert in nephrology. In
addition, due to their lonly skills, nephrologists may provide
care to people without kidney problems and may work in
general/internal medicine, transplantation medicine, immune
system management, strong care of medicine, clinical
pharmacology, surgical medicine, or pediatric in nephrology.
This is a process which is extremely powerful with a goal of
making you informed with the related experience. Moreover,
nephrologists may have a further sub-specialize in one dialysis,
secondly kidney transplantation, thirdly chronic kidney disease,
cancer-related kidney diseases. Onconephrology, practical
nephrology or other non-nephrology areas as described above.
Nephrologist may include the following practical to perform the
native kidney and transplant kidney biopsy, dialysis access
insertion (temporary vascular access lines, tunneled vascular
access lines, peritoneal dialysis access lines), fistula
management (angiographic or surgical fistulogram and plasty),
and bone biopsy. Also Alshurafa did not forget to talk about
their training by saying, Nephrology training can be
accomplished through one of two routes. The first being through
an internal medicine pathway leading to an Internal
Medicine/Nephrology specialty, and sometimes known as "adult
nephrology". The second pathway being through Pediatrics
leading to a specialty in Pediatric Nephrology. In the United
States, after medical school adult nephrologists complete a
three-year residency in internal medicine followed by a two-
year fellowship in nephrology. Complementary to an adult
nephrologist, a pediatric nephrologist will complete a three-year
pediatric residency after medical school or a four-year
Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency. This is
followed by a three-year fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology.
Once training is satisfactorily completed, the physician is
eligible to take the American Board of Internal Medicine
(ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine
(AOBIM) nephrology examination. Nephrologists must be
approved by one of these boards. To be approved, the physician
must fulfill the requirements for education and training in
nephrology in order to qualify to take the board's examination.
If a physician passes the examination, then he or she can
become a nephrology specialist. Typically, nephrologists also
need two to three years of training in an ACGME or AOA
accredited fellowship in nephrology. Nearly all programs train
nephrologists in continuous renal replacement therapy; fewer
than half in the United States train in the provision of
plasmapheresis. Only pediatric trained physicians are able to
train in pediatric nephrology, and internal medicine (adult)
trained physicians may enter general (adult) nephrology
fellowships. In addition, there are many parts in the world to
train a nephrology and there skill in it such as, the United
Kingdom, nephrology (or often renal medicine) is a subspecialty
of general medicine. A nephrologist has completed medical
school, foundation year posts (FY1 and FY2) and core medical
training (CMT) and passed the Membership of the Royal
College of Physicians (MRCP) exam before competing for a
National Training Number (NTN) in renal medicine. The typical
subspecialty training is five years and leads to a Certificate of
Completion of Training (CCT) in both renal medicine and
general (internal) medicine. Subspecialty trainees often
interrupt their clinical training to obtain research degrees
(MD/PhD).Others include, Australia and New Zealand.
Furthermore, for the history and physical examinations are
fateful to the diagnostic workup in nephrology. And this may
include some questions regarding to the family history, general
medical history, diet, medication use, drug use and the
occupation of patient. Examination typically includes an
assessment of the volume, blood pressure, skin, joints, abdomen
and flank. Also there are many organizations for nephrology
such as, The International Society of Nephrology is the largest
global society representing medical professionals engaged in
advancing kidney care worldwide. In the USA, the National
Kidney Foundation is a national organization representing
patients and professionals who treat kidney diseases. Founded
in 1966, the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) is the
world’s largest professional society devoted to the study of
kidney disease. The American Nephrology Nurses' Association
(ANNA), founded in 1969, promotes excellence in and
appreciation of nephrology nursing to make a positive
difference for patients with kidney disease. The American
Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is a non-profit, patient-
centric group focused on improving the health and wellbeing of
CKD and dialysis patients. The American Kidney Fund directly
provides financial support to patients in need, as well as
participating in health education and prevention efforts. ASDIN
(American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional
Nephrology) is the main organization of interventional
nephrologists. Other organizations include CIDA, VASA. Which
deal with dialysis vascular access. The Renal Support Network
(RSN) is a nonprofit, patient focused, patient run organization
that provides non-medical services to those affected by chronic
kidney disease (CKD).
In the United Kingdom, the UK National Kidney Federation
represents patients, and the Renal Association represents renal
physicians and works closely with the National Service
Framework for kidney disease. Alshurafa support his idea of
loving this job by saying, I love this job because I'm always
ready to take any responsibility and I feel this will come more
quickly with an organization of this kind. Moreover, I find it
more effective and pleasant to work in it. I also have an
experience in the treatments in nephrology which include
medications, blood products, surgical interventions (urology,
vascular or surgical proses), renal replacement therapy (dialysis
or kidney transplantation) and plasma exchange. Kidney
problems can have significant impact on quality and length of
life, and so psychological support, health education and
advanced care planning play key roles in nephrology, also I lead
a team on Chronic kidney disease which typically managed a
treatment of causative conditions (such as diabetes), avoiding of
toxic materials to the kidneys (nephrotoxins like radiology
contrast and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs),antihypertensive, diet and weight management and
planning for end stage of renal failure. Impaired kidney
function has systemic effects on the body. An erythropoietin
stimulating agent may be required to ensure enough production
of red blood cells, activated vitamin D supplements and
phosphate binders may be required to counteract the effects of
kidney failure on bone metabolism, and blood volume. My team
had shown a lot of advantages. My team is in where certain the
position, less harm testing may not provide a certain diagnosis.
Where is the final diagnosis is required, biopsy of the kidney
(renal biopsy) may I do it many time. This typically take a part
of the insertion, under local anesthetic and ultrasound or CT
guidance, of a core biopsy needle into the kidney to obtain a
small sample of kidney tissue. The kidney tissue is then
examined under a microscope by pathological doctor, allowing
direct imagination of the changes active within the kidney.
Furthermore, the pathology may also stage a problem affecting
the kidney. In some times, kidney biopsy will also be used to
shows the response to treatment and identify early relapse. Our
team had good interpersonal interactions and we assisted each
other so much. I personally enjoyed working in a team and still
could like to work with them. My plan in future to work hard so
as to show strong in my area of experience where I will also
help many patients, and I'd love also to invent some new
treatment, and also I would love to apply for International
society of human nephrology and the American society of
Nephrology.
While I asked Alshurafa of his weaknesses he said, my only one
weakness is that may prefer to be allowed to do more research
work. This is a condition I developed when I was a medical
student. I work till odd ours to ensure that I have completed my
research tasks. I don’t know how I'm going to put this habit to a
stop. However when I asked him of his strengths, he support his
idea of saying I am a great hand baller, track and field player,
and a wonderful surgeon. I'm a kind of super hero. Furthermore,
how to manage my time well, so I have a balance of all my
vocation in successes way. Moreover, For nearly four years I
see myself as a leader in research and patient care. Some of my
major achievements are as follows: First faculty appointments
in the Division of Nephrology: MD, Jim Clapp, MD, and Chuck
Hayes, MD
Secondly, Opening of king Fahad specialist Hospital outpatient
hemodialysis unit on Moraine Road
Thirdly, First dialysis treatment performed at London Health
Sciences Hospital.
Fourth, 3,000th transplant and 1,000th living donor kidney
transplant performed at London Health Sciences Hospital
University and King Fahad Specialist Hospital
Finally, Arab Leader of the American Society of Nephrology:
Thomas M. Coffman, MD
Honor code:-
I have nether given or received, nor tolerated other’s used of
unauthorized aid.

AlfrdanAli AlfrdanProfessor CassadyCore 115 – Formal Paper.docx

  • 1. Alfrdan Ali Alfrdan Professor Cassady Core 115 – Formal Paper # 2 First Draft 3/21/2015 Worker Profile Have you ever find a person vocation and job like your dream job and your vocation? Not only that, also your cousin and your life experience adviser? To begin with, I’m going to interview my cousin. His first name is Hashim, and his last name is Alshurafa.Hashim is great hand ball, track and field player, and a wonderful surgeon. He is one of my models because I see him kind of super hero. Furthermore, hashim knew how to manage his time well, so he made a balance of all his vocation in successes way. Moreover he giving me a lot of advice when I need, also my vocation as his vocation, so I’m trying to follow his steps and his rule. Also I like his job and vocation because I’m an athletic like him, but my sport areas in Track and field is a race walking, and I have my achievement in that’s area such as, I’m the fastest person in K.S.A in race walking, so the Saudi race walk record under my name, and I got a bronze medal In Arabian championship, and I did the limit to enroll in world cup of race walking. Moreover, because I have a renal transplantation, I would love to be a nephrology doctor as Hashim. In addition, all his steps of education very doctors should follow it. No doctor can be consultant before he /she do those step. My plan to do as what Hasim did or any doctor are the following:- First of all, studying 4 years any major with premed requirements, many volunteer in health field, The Medical College Admission Test. Secondly, study 4 years in medical school. 2years learning by attending lectures while other 2 years
  • 2. are clinically. Thirdly we have to apply for the doctoral reticently in internal medicine for 3 years and get the internal medicine specialist license as what hashim did. Final step we have to apply for fellowship in Nephrology that’s take 2 years and then a short lessen and practice in 1 year of transplantation. Hashim studied his Elementary school in in his hometown Safwa which call Imam Ali Bin Abi Talib Elementary School then he went to University of Toronto to study Kinesiology and Premed there. After that, he was studying his Internal Medicine degree in Saskatoon University and reticently of Royal University Hospital in Saskatchewan, Canada. Then he went to London Ontario to study and practice his fellowship in Nephrology consultant degree in Western Ontario University, also he worked as a fellowship student in London Health Sciences Hospital. After he graduate, he worked in Saudi Arabia King Fahad Specialist Hospital. Because those reasons, I’m Interviewer him. Formal Interview section, Welcome Mr. Alfrdan. I am surgeon Alshurafa, a nephrologists. As what did you know in my worker profile, and he support his idea by Nephrology is came from a Greek word called nephrons wish is the kidney, and after the nephro word came -logy which means the study of it. It's a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that majors itself with the study of normal kidney function, the treatment of kidney problems, kidney problems and renal replacement therapy i.e. dialysis and kidney transplantation. Basic physiology and kidney function that affect the kidneys such as diabetes, immune system disease and systemic problems that happen as the result of kidney problems such as renal osteodystrophy and high blood pressure. There are also studied in nephrology. A physician who has undertaken additional training to become an expert in nephrology may call themselves a nephrologist or renal physician. Mr. Alfrdan this is
  • 3. kind of summary of an over view of nephrology. Nephrology study is a wonderful and more interesting field. Also he is really interesting in it by saying nephrology and renal transplantation has been what I thought the best career I could afford to help humanity. Furthermore, it’s a really wide area, but much more interesting for those who are serious. Therefore, Nephrology worry the diagnosis and treatment of the kidney diseases, including renal chronic disease and high blood pressure, and the care of those need a renal replacement therapy. Including a dialysis and renal transplantation to the patients. Many diseases affecting the kidney are systemic disorders not limited to the organ itself, and need many special treatment. Examples including a gain conditions such as system of vasculatures. Vasculitis and immune system diseases. Lupus, as well as since the human born or genetic conditions such as polycystic kidney disease. Patients are suggest to see the nephrology specialists for many different reasons, such as sharp renal failure, chronic kidney disease, hematuria, proteinuria, kidney stones, high blood pressure and disorders of base acid. This show more of the definition which I told you about it earlier. Furthermore, Alshurafa would describe the nephrology doctors and their work field as the nephrologist is the physician who has undertaken additional training to become an expert in nephrology. In addition, due to their lonly skills, nephrologists may provide care to people without kidney problems and may work in general/internal medicine, transplantation medicine, immune system management, strong care of medicine, clinical pharmacology, surgical medicine, or pediatric in nephrology. This is a process which is extremely powerful with a goal of making you informed with the related experience. Moreover, nephrologists may have a further sub-specialize in one dialysis, secondly kidney transplantation, thirdly chronic kidney disease, cancer-related kidney diseases. Onconephrology, practical nephrology or other non-nephrology areas as described above.
  • 4. Nephrologist may include the following practical to perform the native kidney and transplant kidney biopsy, dialysis access insertion (temporary vascular access lines, tunneled vascular access lines, peritoneal dialysis access lines), fistula management (angiographic or surgical fistulogram and plasty), and bone biopsy. Also Alshurafa did not forget to talk about their training by saying, Nephrology training can be accomplished through one of two routes. The first being through an internal medicine pathway leading to an Internal Medicine/Nephrology specialty, and sometimes known as "adult nephrology". The second pathway being through Pediatrics leading to a specialty in Pediatric Nephrology. In the United States, after medical school adult nephrologists complete a three-year residency in internal medicine followed by a two- year fellowship in nephrology. Complementary to an adult nephrologist, a pediatric nephrologist will complete a three-year pediatric residency after medical school or a four-year Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency. This is followed by a three-year fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology. Once training is satisfactorily completed, the physician is eligible to take the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM) nephrology examination. Nephrologists must be approved by one of these boards. To be approved, the physician must fulfill the requirements for education and training in nephrology in order to qualify to take the board's examination. If a physician passes the examination, then he or she can become a nephrology specialist. Typically, nephrologists also need two to three years of training in an ACGME or AOA accredited fellowship in nephrology. Nearly all programs train nephrologists in continuous renal replacement therapy; fewer than half in the United States train in the provision of plasmapheresis. Only pediatric trained physicians are able to train in pediatric nephrology, and internal medicine (adult) trained physicians may enter general (adult) nephrology fellowships. In addition, there are many parts in the world to
  • 5. train a nephrology and there skill in it such as, the United Kingdom, nephrology (or often renal medicine) is a subspecialty of general medicine. A nephrologist has completed medical school, foundation year posts (FY1 and FY2) and core medical training (CMT) and passed the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) exam before competing for a National Training Number (NTN) in renal medicine. The typical subspecialty training is five years and leads to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in both renal medicine and general (internal) medicine. Subspecialty trainees often interrupt their clinical training to obtain research degrees (MD/PhD).Others include, Australia and New Zealand. Furthermore, for the history and physical examinations are fateful to the diagnostic workup in nephrology. And this may include some questions regarding to the family history, general medical history, diet, medication use, drug use and the occupation of patient. Examination typically includes an assessment of the volume, blood pressure, skin, joints, abdomen and flank. Also there are many organizations for nephrology such as, The International Society of Nephrology is the largest global society representing medical professionals engaged in advancing kidney care worldwide. In the USA, the National Kidney Foundation is a national organization representing patients and professionals who treat kidney diseases. Founded in 1966, the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) is the world’s largest professional society devoted to the study of kidney disease. The American Nephrology Nurses' Association (ANNA), founded in 1969, promotes excellence in and appreciation of nephrology nursing to make a positive difference for patients with kidney disease. The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is a non-profit, patient- centric group focused on improving the health and wellbeing of CKD and dialysis patients. The American Kidney Fund directly provides financial support to patients in need, as well as participating in health education and prevention efforts. ASDIN (American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional
  • 6. Nephrology) is the main organization of interventional nephrologists. Other organizations include CIDA, VASA. Which deal with dialysis vascular access. The Renal Support Network (RSN) is a nonprofit, patient focused, patient run organization that provides non-medical services to those affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD). In the United Kingdom, the UK National Kidney Federation represents patients, and the Renal Association represents renal physicians and works closely with the National Service Framework for kidney disease. Alshurafa support his idea of loving this job by saying, I love this job because I'm always ready to take any responsibility and I feel this will come more quickly with an organization of this kind. Moreover, I find it more effective and pleasant to work in it. I also have an experience in the treatments in nephrology which include medications, blood products, surgical interventions (urology, vascular or surgical proses), renal replacement therapy (dialysis or kidney transplantation) and plasma exchange. Kidney problems can have significant impact on quality and length of life, and so psychological support, health education and advanced care planning play key roles in nephrology, also I lead a team on Chronic kidney disease which typically managed a treatment of causative conditions (such as diabetes), avoiding of toxic materials to the kidneys (nephrotoxins like radiology contrast and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs),antihypertensive, diet and weight management and planning for end stage of renal failure. Impaired kidney function has systemic effects on the body. An erythropoietin stimulating agent may be required to ensure enough production of red blood cells, activated vitamin D supplements and phosphate binders may be required to counteract the effects of kidney failure on bone metabolism, and blood volume. My team had shown a lot of advantages. My team is in where certain the position, less harm testing may not provide a certain diagnosis. Where is the final diagnosis is required, biopsy of the kidney
  • 7. (renal biopsy) may I do it many time. This typically take a part of the insertion, under local anesthetic and ultrasound or CT guidance, of a core biopsy needle into the kidney to obtain a small sample of kidney tissue. The kidney tissue is then examined under a microscope by pathological doctor, allowing direct imagination of the changes active within the kidney. Furthermore, the pathology may also stage a problem affecting the kidney. In some times, kidney biopsy will also be used to shows the response to treatment and identify early relapse. Our team had good interpersonal interactions and we assisted each other so much. I personally enjoyed working in a team and still could like to work with them. My plan in future to work hard so as to show strong in my area of experience where I will also help many patients, and I'd love also to invent some new treatment, and also I would love to apply for International society of human nephrology and the American society of Nephrology. While I asked Alshurafa of his weaknesses he said, my only one weakness is that may prefer to be allowed to do more research work. This is a condition I developed when I was a medical student. I work till odd ours to ensure that I have completed my research tasks. I don’t know how I'm going to put this habit to a stop. However when I asked him of his strengths, he support his idea of saying I am a great hand baller, track and field player, and a wonderful surgeon. I'm a kind of super hero. Furthermore, how to manage my time well, so I have a balance of all my vocation in successes way. Moreover, For nearly four years I see myself as a leader in research and patient care. Some of my major achievements are as follows: First faculty appointments in the Division of Nephrology: MD, Jim Clapp, MD, and Chuck Hayes, MD Secondly, Opening of king Fahad specialist Hospital outpatient hemodialysis unit on Moraine Road Thirdly, First dialysis treatment performed at London Health
