1. Mayhem continues on D-street on Rupee woes; Nifty settles near 5300

Markets ended the volatile session with huge losses as Rupee continued the vertically downward fall. Following a
300+ point start, Sensex closed the day with 340 points losses as sentiments got dampened on Rupee hitting a new
low of Rs 64.62 per USD. As per a Deutsche Bank report, INR can touch Rs 70 per USD in a month's time. Ranbaxy
was the flopper of the day as the stock crashed nearly 13%.
The market breadth on the BSE closed in negative. Advancing and declining stocks were 907 and 1353 respectively,
while 136 scrips remained unmoved.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 17905.91, down 340.13 points or 1.86%. The 30 share index touched a high and a
low of 18567.70 and 17807.19 respectively. 5 stocks advanced against 25 declining ones on the benchmark index.
The CNX Nifty lost 98.90 points or 1.83% to settle at 5302.55. The index touched high and low of 5504.10 and
5268.45 respectively. 10 stocks advanced against 40 declining ones on the index.
S&P BSE Sensex CNX Nifty
The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved down to 5274.03 and lost 1.24% while S&P BSE Small-cap index hammered
down by 0.81% to 5181.12.
The broader S&P BSE 500 index decreased to 6497.52 (down 1.71%) and CNX 500 index declined to 4069.45 (down
1.67%).
The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX gained 3.16% at 28.09 from its previous close of 27.23 on Tuesday.
Sectors in action
On the BSE Sectorial front, Consumer Durables (up 0.74%) and Banks (up 0.49%) were the top gainers.
Metals (down 3.63%), Oil & Gas (down 3.52%) and Real Estate (down 3.34%) were the top losers.
The Angels and the Devils
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (up 3.15%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (up 2.83%), HDFC Bank (up
1.61%), GAIL (India) Ltd (up 0.20%) and Tata Power Company Ltd (up 0.14%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.
Bharti Airtel Ltd (down 6.31%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (down 4.92%), Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd (down
4.81%), ITC Ltd (down 4.80%) and Reliance Industries Ltd (down 4.72%) were the top losers on the Sensex.
