1. CALCULATE YOUR REALITY
LONG DESCRIPTION
In order to do this activity, we have divided it into different sessions in
which the children will carry out the following activities.
In the first session:
The teacher will explain the activity that the children are going to develop
along the week. This explanation will be in the habitual classroom where
the students are normally. During this session the teacher will explain the
activity to children, think about what they are going to do and how they are
going to do it.
The topic which the teacher will present will be the Area and Perimeter.
Then, the children will have to think the development of the activity and
the final example which they will present in the final session.
Once the teacher has exposed the topic, he will divide the children in
groups. The groups will be formed between three or four students. The
teacher will give them different roles such as the filmmaker, the calculator,
the treasurer and the leader.
Second and third session
Well, with the student divided and the roles distributed the teacher will give
them one tablet for each group and he will explain what they have to do.
The teacher will give them the name of the application that they have to
use, the Tangram HD application. With this application the students will
build big figures with basic geometric figures such as square, triangle,
rectangle…
When they have built the figure, the will have to choose two or three basic
geometric figures and the will calculate their area and perimeter. Figures’
measures will be given by us previously.
At the end of this activity, the teacher will explain the next step. In this, the
teacher and the students will go to education faculty at university of Murcia
and they will do the practical session in the faculty’s hall. Each group must
have a compass, a meter and a map.
2. Also in this class the teacher will explain the practical activity in which the
students will look for different geometric figures in the faculty`s hall and
calculate the area or perimeter
This step will take two session of one hour each.
Session in the faculty’s hall
Well, when the students will be in the faculty’s hall the teacher will give
them a map of the hall. After that, each group will receive a clue about the
first figure in the hall. When they will find the figure, they will have to
calculate the area with the correct formulates and obtain the result. In order
to do the next figure they will have to share with us the result through
twitter application. If the result is correct the students will receive the clue
about the next figure. This step will be done three more times.
Simultaneously the filmmaker will make sequences to each figures that
they have done, the developing and the final result of the area or perimeter.
The students will be able to do this during two hours.
Fifth session
When the students have finished with this, they will have to do a trailer
with all the sequences that the filmmaker have done. They must intent to do
a creative and dynamic trailer. On the other hand they will do a big poster
with all the figures and results that they have obtained during the treasure
hunt activity
In order to do the trailer the students could do the trailer and the poster in
class, therefore they will have a session of two hours
Final session: Exposition’s session
During the last session, the students will present their trailers and their
posters, also they will explain how to do this activity, their best moments in
the activity, their problems, the resources and materials used.
