This document announces a design competition for an urban haat or bazaar in Kota, India. It provides background information on Kota, describes the purpose and importance of haats, and outlines the site location and program requirements. Participants are invited to submit design proposals by April 26th that will be evaluated based on pre-determined criteria by a jury. The top three entries will receive cash awards.
2. Kota, being the educational capital of India, with a population of
around 15 lakh, is the third biggest city of the Rajasthan after
Jaipur and Jodhpur. A fast growning urban development brings a
challenge of keeping together a balance betwen the regional
traditional Craftsmen with Branded Showrooms . The Local
Craftmen requires a space to display and commercialism their
Art.
Kota is a city on the Chambal River in Rajasthan, northern India.
Inside the Kota Garh, or City Palace, the Maharao Madho Singh
Museum exhibits miniature paintings and antique weapons.
South, along the river, tranquil Chambal Garden has a pond with
crocodiles. Northeast, 18th-century Jagmandir Palace sits in the
middle of Kishore Sagar Lake. Seven Wonders Park includes mini
replicas of the Eiffel Tower and Taj Mahal

Haat - Bazar
Haat / Bazar are important and vital part of a region as
they serve as means for interaction , meeting , display and
exchange of goods and services. They are much more than
any commercial place. These are flexible and spacious
spaces that provides a clear image of a regions economy.
Haat - Bazaar plays a vital role in overall development of
not only an individual but the entire community. The
proposed Haat - Bazaar is to be used by artists and arts
loving people. Haat- Bazaar being a cultural center are
important for local communities as a venue of organizing
their leisure, providing opportunities for self-expression,
initiatives and cultural education.
Various exhibitions and performances by local artists can
be displayed along with the annual festivals of dance and
music. The center can also be used to hosts workshops or
Exhibitions for promoting local Art.
4. The site is located right at heart of the city.
Adjacent to it is the oldest and the biggest city
level park Chattra Vilas garden, house of many
species of plants and birds.
Kishore Sagar Talab next to the site provides a
magnificent view of the Jag Mandir with an
opportunity for people to have a walk along the
lake. The garden and the lake together offer a
perfect environment to the artists and the art
lovers
