3. If you haven’t heard of “The Social
Media Guide,” you just might be
living under an old Commodore 64.
Updated constantly, and nearly
always entertaining, Mashable takes
the worlds of Twitter, Facebook,
entertainment, news, and everything
else techies are talking about and,
well, mashes it up into the kind of
blog casserole we just can’t get
enough of.
4. Pretty much known as
the TMZ of tech after they paid
for a “lost” next-gen Apple
iPhone — the fallout became
front-page news across the
world. Scandals aside,
Gizmodo’s been a must-follow
site for a long time, with tons of
relevant posts, a youthful vibe,
and some of the funnier
commenters on the Internet.
5. If you’re looking for what’s next, look no further. Om Malik’s creation has grown into one of the largest blogs
worldwide, and it’s all due to focusing on what’s new. News and analysis on Web 2.0, technologies and startups.
7. The thinking man's finance blog it is not. But if you are looking for all manner of business and economic news, as well as Wall Street
gossip and what's hot on the Web, Business Insider is the best place to go. Unfortunately, more and more of the content on the blog
is basically plucked from elsewhere without a lot of original analysis or reporting. But Business Insider, which is headed by former
Wall Street analyst Henry Blodget, does a good job of picking its stories.
8. The problem with blogs is that they
can breed a sort of laziness. It's easy
to simply respond, react and rebut.
That's not what you get with
Rortybomb's Mike Konczal, however.
His posts make you think everything
else — from other bloggers to
newspaper columnists to magazine
articles — are lazy. Konczal is
constantly applying new data sets and
information to arguments in desperate
need of empiricism. His comfort with
the mathematical models and
statistical wizardry that make most
journalists blanch is married to an easy
writing style and a pop-culture
sensibility. He's one of my daily reads,
and he should be one of yours too.
9. The authors, cover many
macroeconomic issues in
an understandable and
straightforward manner.
11. While visually arresting film
posters can draw
customers into the theatre,
poorly executed examples
are also capable of sending
potential patrons running
for Netflix
12. Are you looking for free and
legal downloads from cool
bands and artists you’ve
never heard of? If so, you
might want to give this nifty
site a try. In addition to
hand-picked tracks that can
be carried away in MP3
format, The Burning Ear
also includes reviews, music
videos, and downloadable
mixtapes to suit any
occasion.
13. Fans of comic books have
plenty of online resources
to choose from these
days, especially with the
billions of dollars that their
cinematic adaptations are
raking in. This site keeps
Marvel and DC devotees
updated on all the latest
industry news, as well as
offering sections devoted
to cosplay, toys, art,
culture, and opinion. If
you’re a comic book
geek—or want to become
one—Comics Alliance will
help raise your nerd
quotient in style.
16. LinkedIn LinkedIn is the social network for businesses and business
professionals. It is the best way to connect with others, source
leads, find jobs, and network online. Most businesses can
greatly benefit from having a presence on LinkedIn. In fact, all
500 of the Fortune500 businesses have established a presence
on LinkedIn.
Just setting up a page won’t get the attention of other LinkedIn
users. However, what you post is very important. Even though
LinkedIn is for professionals, it is still social in nature and the
types of updates that will get the most attention are informative
and engaging. Using keyword rich content on your LinkedIn
page is advised for a few different reasons. Descriptive content
lets readers know what you do. In this economic environment
it’s tough to find a job. But LinkedIn can help.
