Core Abilities
Historicaly, in many career and education programs, the focus has been on topics specific to the occupational area. Todays fast-paced global marketplace is demanding more, and “soft skills” are emerging in importance. In today’s global workforce, soft skills are more directly related to professional success than ever before.
The faculty has identified seven related topics of soft skills, or “core abilities” that are crucial to success both during school and after graduation. Core abilities are skills and competencies that will enable students to be successful in the workforce. These essential skills are taught across programs and departments so that each student can expect to work towards improving and applying these critical soft skills and core abilities regardless of their program of choice.

Campus News!
Welcome to the beginning of Semester!
Laurel College offers this diverse geographic area a wide range
of academic and career programs, including associate degrees,
certificate programs, and non-credit continuing education and
personal development courses. The college makes positive
contributions to the community through cultural and athletic
programs and partnerships with businesses and non-profit
organizations. The college also provides industry-specific
training programs for local businesses through its growing
Economic Development Center.
Welcome Week: There are several activities for you to
participate in. See page 3 for details.
Plan Ahead: Rock Climbing 101 will be meeting on Tuesday’s

Project Description:
You have been asked to finalize a paper discussing the seven
core abilities the faculty has identified as being crucial to
student success. This will require you to run a spelling and
grammar check on the document, as well as to insert and format
clip art, create bulleted and numbered lists, and change the
margins. You have also been asked to create a newsletter
welcoming students to a new semester. To format the document
as a newsletter, you will change column and text formatting,
insert text from another file, and create mailing labels.
Instructions:
For the purpose of grading the project you are required to
perform the following tasks:

document type to labels and then proceed to step 2. Select
Avery US Letter labels, product number 5160. Accept the
settings and then proceed to step 3 of the wizard. Select the
downloaded file wV1_addresses.docx as the recipients list.
Accept the settings and proceed to step 4. Insert an address
block using the default settings at the insertion point. Update all
the records to match the first record, and then proceed to step 5.
After previewing the labels, proceed to step 6. Merge all the
records into a new document. From the merged labels
document, select and copy the entire table containing the
mailing labels. Return to the GO_wV1_Grader_CAP.docx file.
With the insertion point at the top of Page 4, paste the copied
mailing labels. 6
27 Save the GO_wV1_Grader_CAP.docx file. Close the
document and then exit Word. Submit the file as directed. 0
