2. * “Together towards the excellence” is our school
motto. The High School of Tropea; “Istituto d’Istruzione
Superiore”, has got 5 different courses: the Classical
Lyceum "Pasquale Galuppi", the Scientific Lyceum
“Fratelli Vianeo”, The Vocational High School for
Accounting, Tourism, Hotel-and-Catering. The students
are about 1000, a small number of them comes from
Tropea, while many from the nearest towns.

4. The Classical Lyceum is the oldest school in
Tropea: it was founded in 1940 by two brothers,
Consalvo and Antonio De Mendoza.
5. And in 1952
the Italian
President,
Luigi Einaudi,
appointed the
Lyceum-
Gymnasium of
Tropea.
6. The Lyceum was
then dedicated to
the local
philosopher
Pasquale Galluppi,
has a rich library, a
lab of science, one
of physics and one
of technology. The
most important
subjects are:
Italian, Greek,
Latin, English and
French.

8. The Scientific
Lyceum was founded
in 1969 and 1974 was
dedicated to “Pietro
and Paolo Vianeo” ,
two surgeons
brothers who lived in
the 16th century in
Tropea, who
invented a new
facial plastic
technique.
9. The most important subjects are: Italian,
Latin, Maths, Physics, Science, Art,
English and French.

11. The school of Accounting was established in
1966. At the end of the third class, students
achieve the qualification of “Commercial
attaché” while, at the end of the fifth class,
they get the Degree in “Management”.

13. The School for Tourism was founded in the
70s but, in 1992, it was associated with the
School of Accounting. This school promotes
the use of computer and the study of foreign
languages: English, French and German. Its
cultural and professional formation answers
to the business like profiles required.

15. The Hotel-and-Catering High
School started in 2000 and, beside
the traditional subjects, students
attend practical labs in the
cafeteria-restaurant, hotel and
catering.
