BBFC Certification Research

‘U’ means suitable for all, and all ‘U’ films should be suitable
for anyone aged 4 years and over. These films will not include
any violence, threat or horror, or any other material which
would be unsuitable for small children to watch.

‘PG’ means parental guidance, which is general viewing but
some scenes may be unsuitable for young children.
Unaccompanied children of any age can watch but these films
should not disturb a child aged 8 or over .

These should both be suitable for people of the age of 12 and over, these may
upset those aged under 12 or could include some material which is unsuitable.
‘12A’ is only for cinema films, and no one under the age of 12 will be able to see
the film, unless accompanied by an adult. If an adult takes a child younger than
12 to one of these films, it is then their responsibility to whether they think the
film Is suitable for the child or not. ‘12’ is only for video works and no one under
the age of 12 will be able to buy or rent a film under this certification.

The classification ‘15’ means that only people aged 15 and
over may watch the film and no one younger than 15 can buy
or rent a ‘15’ rated work.

‘18’ means suitable for only adults and that no one under the
aged of 18 years can watch an ‘18’ film in the cinema or buy
and rent ‘18’ rated works.
