2. Augustine
Volcano
 Augustine Island.
 Augustine volcano is on Augustine
island
 It was last active in December 2005
 It is 4134 feet tall
 It is an active volcano
 The volcano is a central dome cluster.
It has central dome and lava flow
complex. It is surrounded by
pyroclastic debris.
 Volcano- A vent in the earth in which
lava comes out.
 Dome- resembles a half of a sphere.
 Pyroclastic- fragments of rock form a
volcano

3. Mount Cleveland





Located on Chuginadak Island
It is 5676 feet high
It is an active volcano
Last eruption was May 4, 2013
It is a Stratovolcano, it is
symmetrical in form. 8.5 km in
diameter. Joined on to the
lower east part of the island.
The island is by a low narrow
strip of land
 Stratovolcano- a volcano built
up of alternate layers of lava
and ash
 Symmetrical- made up of
exactly similar parts facing
each other or around an axis.

4. Frosty Peak




It is Located in Cold Bay
It is 6299 feet high
It is an inactive volcano
The frosty peak volcano is a
Stratovolcano. It has two
craters in it. West wall is ice
filled. The northern wall has a
large glacier on it.
 Coalescing Craters- grown
together
 Valley-a low area of land
between hills or mountains

5. Snowy Mountain





Located in Katmai
It is 7090 feet tall
It is an active volcano
Last active in 2001
It has lots of snow and ice on
the mountain. Glacier covers
about 90% of the volcano.
 Glaciers- a slowly moving mass
or river of ice formed by the
accumulation and compaction
of snow on mountains or near
the poles.

6. Mount Wrangell
 Mount Wrangell is located in
Wrangell
 It is 1416 feet tall
 It is an active volcano
 Last active on March 26,1930
 It is a shield volcano with summit
caldera. It has a volume of 900
cubic km. Top has an ice summit
filled caldera.
 Shield Volcano- A shield volcano
is a type of volcano usually built
almost entirely of fluid lava flows
 Summit-the highest point of a hill
or mountain.
 Caldera-large volcanic crater,
typically one formed by a major
eruption leading to the collapse of
the mouth of the volcano.

7. There are 130 volcano's/volcano
fields in Alaska.

8. There are currently 90 active
volcanoes in Alaska

9. Volcanoes could affect aircraft by causing the
engine to fail after ingesting volcanic ash. Airports
could be closed due to a volcano erupting.

10. Volcano eruptions could also affect
people. They could affect people with
asthma or respiratory problems. Debris
could cover human communities.
Volcanic gases in the air may be poison.

11. We see about 1.3 volcano eruptions in
Alaska per year on average.
