In some countries the government decides how many, and what kinds of, consumer goods
and services will be produced. But in the United States the people (consumers) decide what
will be produced - a process called consumer sovereignty. People vote (with their money) for
the goods and services they want produced. If consumers do not buy a product in sufficient
quantity to make its production profitable, producers will discontinue making the product. If
people demand more than is available, production will be increased.
No nation can produce enough goods and services to satisfy all its citizens' wants. It is
necessary, therefore, to have some way of deciding who gets the things that are produced. In
the United States, goods and services are distributed on the basis of wealth. The people with
the most money get the most goods and services. While this may be an efficient way of
deciding who gets what, it is not necessarily a fair way. People with the most money may not
be the most deserving or the ones with the greatest need. Nor do they necessarily work the
hardest. Some people who work very hard earn a small income. Although some wealthy
people have worked hard to get their money, others have inherited much of it.

Magnetism is an important force of nature acting between objects called magnets. Magnets
are most commonly known for their ability to attract metallic substances. The Earth itself
behaves as if a large magnet runs through its center, with the strongest areas being at the
north and south poles. Surprisingly, the magnetic field surrounding the Earth is a million
times weaker than the field surrounding an atom, yet it is a million times stronger than that
surrounding our own galaxy. Magnetism plays an essential role in creating large amounts of
electricity, without which complex industrial techniques would be infeasible.
12

Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
Select one:
a. One Source of Electricity

c. Several Kinds of Forces in the Physical World

b. the smaller an object, the weaker its magnetic field

“Trauma” has both a medical and a psychiatric definition. Medically, “trauma” refers to a
serious or critical bodily injury, wound, or shock. This definition is often associated with
trauma medicine practiced in emergency rooms and represents a popular view of the term.
Psychiatrically, “trauma” has assumed a different meaning and refers to an experience that is
emotionally painful, distressful, or shocking, which often results in lasting mental and
physical effects.
Psychiatric trauma, or emotional harm, is essentially a normal response to an extreme event.
It involves the creation of emotional memories about the distressful event that are stored in
structures deep within the brain. In general, it is believed that the more direct the exposure to
the traumatic event, the higher the risk for emotional harm. Thus in a school shooting, for
example, the student who is injured probably will be most severely affected emotionally; and
the student who sees a classmate shot, even killed, is likely to be more emotionally affected
than the student who was in another part of the school when the violence occurred. But even
second-hand exposure to violence can be traumatic. For this reason, all children and
adolescents exposed to violence or a disaster, even if only through graphic media reports,
should be watched for signs of emotional distress.
14
.
Below are the effects of having a traumatic experience mentioned in the
passage, except, ....
Select one:
a. injured.
b. shocked.
c. hurt.
d. excited.
15
.
What is the best title for the passage?
Select one:
a. Trauma – What is It?
b. Trauma for Adults
c. Traumatic Children
d. Three Kinds of Trauma
16
.
Based on the passage, which of the following statements is true?
Select one:
a. Trauma has a psychiatric definition only.
b. Emotional harm is never a normal response to an extreme event.
c. If a child witnesses violence, he will be more traumatic than those
who don’t.
d. Both children and adult should be exposed to violence or disaster.

But in the United States the people (consumers) decide what will be produced - a process called consumer sovereignty. People vote (with their money) for the goods and services they want produced. If consumers do not buy a product in sufficient quantity to make its production profitable, producers will discontinue making the product. If people demand more than is available, production will be increased. No nation can produce enough goods and services to satisfy all its citizens' wants. It is necessary, therefore, to have some way of deciding who gets the things that are produced. In the United States, goods and services are distributed on the basis of wealth. The people with the most money get the most goods and services. While this may be an efficient way of deciding who gets what, it is not necessarily a fair way. People with the most money may not be the most deserving or the ones with the greatest need. Nor do they necessarily work the hardest. Some people who work very hard earn a small income. Although some wealthy people have worked hard to get their money, others have inherited much of it. 11 . What did you do with the money Select one: a. Whose your mother lent you? b. Magnets are most commonly known for their ability to attract metallic substances. The Earth itself behaves as if a large magnet runs through its center, with the strongest areas being at the north and south poles. Surprisingly, the magnetic field surrounding the Earth is a million times weaker than the field surrounding an atom, yet it is a million times stronger than that surrounding our own galaxy. Magnetism plays an essential role in creating large amounts of electricity, without which complex industrial techniques would be infeasible. 12 . Medically, “trauma” refers to a serious or critical bodily injury, wound, or shock. This definition is often associated with trauma medicine practiced in emergency rooms and represents a popular view of the term. Psychiatrically, “trauma” has assumed a different meaning and refers to an experience that is emotionally painful, distressful, or shocking, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects. Psychiatric trauma, or emotional harm, is essentially a normal response to an extreme event. It involves the creation of emotional memories about the distressful event that are stored in structures deep within the brain. In general, it is believed that the more direct the exposure to the traumatic event, the higher the risk for emotional harm. Thus in a school shooting, for example, the student who is injured probably will be most severely affected emotionally; and the student who sees a classmate shot, even killed, is likely to be more emotionally affected than the student who was in another part of the school when the violence occurred. But even second-hand exposure to violence can be traumatic. For this reason, all children and adolescents exposed to violence or a disaster, even if only through graphic media reports, should be watched for signs of emotional distress.
