• Transportation: is defined as movement of fright, people and
information from one place to another.
• Transportation planning: is the process of defining future
policies, goals, investments and designs to prepare for future
needs to move people and goods to destinations.
• Transportation planning is a preparation planning to
move/transfer human, animal or other item to some place to
another place.

• Transport is both a means and an outcome of urbanization
and development.
Urban transport planning and traffic management contribute
to improve mobility and productivity of labor.
Transport efficiency is considered as an indicator of level of
urbanization and development.
Congestion, traffic accidents, pollution, and access problems
have been the critical challenges of the transport and traffic
management sector throughout the world.

According to the recently revised master plan; the Jimma town has
a total area of 46.23km2.

• In the past, public transport was one of the sectors
highly centralized and administered by Public Transport
Corporation under the Ministry of Transport and
Communication in Ethiopia .
• Among the major towns in the country, only Addis Ababa,
Bahir Dar and Jimma are provided with city bus
services, while the other major towns are served by
private minibus, taxis, traditional and intermediate
modes of transport like pack animals, cart and bicycles.

• The review of transportation plan is focused on the oromia state
Jimma city administration transportation authority one of the
government service giving organizations found in the Jimma city.
• Jimma town is one of the oldest, largest and commercial centers of
the country which is situated in Oromia regional state.

number of population is observed in the town.
• Jimma is located 335km by road southwest of Addis Ababa.
• The town is found in an area of average altitude, of about 5400 ft
(1780 m) above sea level

plan especially about parking, walkway, road side vendor and no
environmental issue.

development .

• Accessibility the main concern of the plan which can be defined as
Accessibility (also called access or convenience) refers to the ability
to reach desired goods, services, activities and destinations.
• The plan is no considering the quality and affordability of physical
travel.
• This can include various modes including walking, cycling, but it has
bus(anmbesa bus service and has taxi service )
• Public involvement is often an important component of planning. But
the plan of the city was no considering the public participation on the
planning process.

• They don’t invite stakeholder input to share ideas and concerns but
described in the plan activity.

• Finally we concluded that the transportation planning was not best
type of practice but The city mainly concerned on to ensure the
accessibility, affordability of transportation Service to public at
affordable price with consistently and the city plan to decreases
the loss of human life and property due to car accident.

• Based on the review we conducted on the transportation plan of
Jimma city administration transportation authority we
recommended the following
– To incorporate the standard for parking due the city has no parking facility in
the town and authority should included the parking facility with in town in next
2102 plan
– The city should be including in there planning activity about environment and
green transport.
– The city should plan long term plan and alternative plan
