around the world. Problems with short–term debt funding and mortgaged assets were not limited to
the United States, which is also the underlying cause of the financial crisis (Stoeckel, 2009). In

"Too Big to Fail" portrayed a similar situation. The United States Congress deregulated the banking
industry. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac (known in "How An Economy Grows and Why It Crashes" as
Finne Mae and Fishy Mac), two government sponsored enterprises (GSE's), and large investment
banks bought mortgages that came from commercial banks and other lenders in the secondary
market. This caused these institutions to grow rapidly during the 1990's, eventually holding up to
about 90% of home mortgages on the secondary market by the end of the decade. In 1995, the
Department of Housing and Urban development introduced "regulations required Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac to increase the share of their loans to low and moderate income households" who
necessarily could not afford a mortgage. Due to this requirement, smaller down payments were
accepted for lower interest loans for higher risk borrowers. Lending institutions, seeing that these
high risk mortgages could be passed onto Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and large investment banks as
mortgage backed securities in the secondary mortgage market, began to lower the standards they
looked for in borrowers. These standards included things like the borrower's FICO score, wages and
earnings, and ability to put down a substantial down payment. Essentially, "down payments were
reduced, accepted credit standards lowered, and more loans [were] extended to subprime borrowers"

In an article by Arnett (2008), he makes the assertion that American research psychologists are
relying too heavily on research results that do not generalize to the majority of the population of the
world. Primarily, his two points include; the predominance of American authors and editors found in
American Psychological Association (APA) journals and how American research results do not
consider cultural variation (Arnett, 2008). Arnett (2008) assumes that American psychologists rely
heavily on research findings gleaned from sampled populations, as applicable to behavior of all
human beings. Evidence used to support the claim of the author included an analysis of six APA
journals encompassing a twenty–year time frame from 1988 to 2007 (Arnett, 2008). Findings from
the analysis showed American authors made up a vast majority of published studies and particularly,
undergraduate study samples were used most often (Arnett, 2008). Additionally, Arnett (2008) found
the editors of the APA journals were nearly all associated with American research universities.
Overall, Arnett (2008) makes a convincing case of American psychologists neglecting most of the
world's population with their research findings. However, his view of this topic is skewed and is
evident with his exclusion of relevant information.

For this week's forum, we are to analyze campaign ads from both parties for 2008 and 2016
presidential elections. Reviewing these old and some unseen campaign ads reminds us of the actual
period and mode during these election periods. Using the livingroomcandidate.org website and
seeing some for the first time, reminds the tactics used.
Of Embrace commercial against McCain, the Democrat ad suggest that John McCain was in the
election only for what he can help with big businesses like the oil and drug companies. It suggests

This ad only attempted to show the negative side of Republican side of the election. They used
Trump only harsh words to show an unpolished type candidate (Who We Are (Clinton), 2016).
In America Soaring (Rebuilding America Now), was a positive message for the Republican side.
The ads spoke of rebuilding and used the steel industry as an example. There was limited
introduction, only a sign of hope for the ads (America Soaring (Rebuilding America Now), 2016).
Of the 15 Republican ads for 2016 provided on the Living Room Candidate site, only four were
positive type ads. The 11 ads were direct attacks on the Democrat side of this election. Only until
the last video on the Democrat side had a positive message (Tomorrow). Of the 15 Democrat ads, 14
all attempted to use Donald Trump's own words from mass media to create a negative image on
what could have meant when it was originally said. Democrat ads attempted to use a chronic
minority namely the children of illegals that the other candidate is using as a needing a stronger
immigration policy (Krutz, et al., 2016).
Examining these two–time periods, generally the Republican ads appeared more positive than the
Democrat side. The Republicans attempted to use their own record than attacking the other side.
Both sides used the political socialization in showing that the other candidate is not the one you
