2. Gamification is
when teachers
use games that
give rewards,
have a set
criteria and
evoke emotions

4. WHAT I LIKED…
M O S T L E A S T
There actually wasn’t much
I disliked about Class
Badges. I would have to
say that the thing I liked
least about it was that it
required me to go a little
bit beyond what was
expected of me for this
course.
about
What I liked best about
Class Badges was the
rewards I received after
reaching the target
point-levels, which
really motivated me to
be an active participant
in the class. I also liked
that there were different
ways to receive these
points which was really
accommodating.

5. I think Class Badges helped me
to be a better student in this
course. It motivated me to
want to speak up in class,
help others on the help forum,
and most importantly come to
class! When we first began
this course I thought that
there was no way I would be
able to reach any of the target
point-levels because it would
be too much work. Although
one downside of Class
Badges was that it did mean
putting in extra work to either
help other students on the
help forum or take the
initiative to speak up in class,
I found it beneficial.
MY RATIONALE…
6. MY RATIONALE CONTINUED…
It was beneficial for me because as the course went
on, I found the extra work to be very rewarding.
Being able to skip a discussion question when I had
a million of other school related things to do was
very helpful. In the beginning, I wasn’t all that
interested in Class Badges but by the end, I made
sure I did whatever I could to reach that final goal of
350 points (i.e. completing the http://code.org
challenge), which I ended up doing and it felt
extremely rewarding. To me, reaching that final
target meant that I had really put an effort into this
course because I took that extra step, and it paid
off!
7. I think I am almost certain that I
will include some form of
gamification within my own
classroom one day. I know from
firsthand experience that it is a
great technique to get your
students motivated and
engaged. The beginning will
take a lot of time and effort as a
teacher to implement this into
the classroom but once I get
the hang of it, then I’m sure it
won’t be too bad. Although it
may require some extra time on
my part to calculate points or
monitor when students reach
the target point-levels, for
example, I am willing to put in
the extra effort if it means
having motivated students!
