• To train a team member from all operating
sites to EMA Level 2 Standard
• Create a cross brand credible network of
Utilities Championswith authority to act
• Develop a SharePoint intranet for sharing
activities and results

ownership of utility management to site
10. Preparations
• Selection process – Invited applicationsfor the
role – passionate, willingness to be challenged,
development role, agreed with line Manager
• Agreed a venue and date – Bognor Regis in Feb 2017
• Agreed a training company – EnStrat UK Ltd (Richard
Felgate)
• Gaining EMA Accreditation – worked with Jana to
ensure EMA standard but tailored to our business operation
• Write training!!! – joint project with EnStrat UK Ltd

• 60 team, 6 presenters
• Welcome meal with Lord Redesdale the night
before
• 2 full days of training

16. 3 Month Plan
• Site specific
• Demonstrate understandingof the course

17. Who passed?
• Of 60 team attending the Level 2 training, 46
achieved a standard certified by the EMA
• 14 did not progress due to failing standard,
leaving the business or for a few, found that
they could not facilitate the role alongside
their main role
• Certificates for successful candidatesissued by
their Operations Directors

Apprenticeship Scheme
• Bourne Leisure are in the new Apprenticeship
Levy Scheme
• The EMA have launched a Junior Energy
Management Apprenticeship which is fully
compliant with Apprenticeship Levy
• We will invest £9k each over 2 years in 5 of
our Utility Champions in this externally
evaluated qualificationfrom Feb 2018
28. Has Team Investment Worked?
• Initially YES! Focus on behaviour. Continue Level 2
training
• Further investment required focusing on technical skills
as savings will become more difficult – Level 3 training
and beyond
• Added 2 new ESOS Lead Assessors in 2017 bringing our
total to 4
• Utilities Champions will switch from behavioural issues
to technical opportunities over time
• ESOS Phase 2 will be far more comprehensive and link
to future CAPEX programmes
• Succession planning through Apprenticeship Scheme
