3. 5. One of the best ways to avoid plagiarism is to learn how to
correctly paraphrase sources. Sometimes this is not easy
because we may be using some of the author's language when
we get the main ideas for our research paper. In personal life,
business life, and in college life, the question of the day is:
How do we give people the credit they deserve? You may have
know individuals who take credit for other people's
achievements and also refuse to recognize the achievements of
others. Is this the right thing to do? For this week's forum, do
the following:
REMEMBER TO GET FULL CREDIT, EACH POST MUST BE
A PARAGRAPH.
(1) Make a general comment about how you feel about taking
credit for someone else's work. What are the issues involved? Is
this prevalent in our society?
(2) For your research, look up a "credible" source on
paraphrasing APA style and paraphrase from that source. Giving
the source credit. HAPPY PARAPHRASING!
6. In English 107 we write "argument research papers." This
means that we need to take a fairly strong position on a subject
we have chosen so we can "argue with passion" about our ideas.
To enjoy writing an argument paper this is essential...and we do
want to enjoy writing our papers as well as write them
correctly.
Post concerning the following:
(1) Do you like to argue in general? Does the word have a
negative connotation for you? Arguing can be an activity that
wastes our time because of the way we present our ideas and
also the emotions we may express. In college, arguing has a
different meaning. We are learning to present our ideas in a
logical and , mostly, nonemotional way. We do , however need
to express that we care about the subject. Comment on how you
feel about "arguing" in personal, business, and school life.
4. (2) Using your textbook and or the internet, state some of the
main points that need to be considering when composing a
formal argument.
7. Editing a final paper can often change a paper one letter
grade or more. This forum is about ways you can be a better
editor of your own paper. When we edit, we are looking for
spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph lengths, and
unity as well as capitalization and other mechanics. Here is the
forum for this week. REMEMBER WRITE A PARAGRAPH IN
GOOD GRAMMAR.
P One: What is your biggest challenge with editing?
P Two: Look either in your text or the internet and find good
information on editing. Quote it, give the source, and make your
own comments about the quote.
8. In this forum please do two things:
(1) Evaluate how long it took you , approximately, to complete
the final paper.
(2) Comment on how you think learning these skills will or will
not assist you in your future school, personal, and business
endeavors.
To get credit, remember answers must be in paragraph format
and use proper grammar.
Even though students have already completed an official
evaluation. It would help me to know the following:
1. What part of the class did you enjoy the most?
2. What part of the class did you consider most valuable?
3. What part of the class could be left out?
4. What should be added to the class?
Other?
