Healthcare System in US
Introduction
United States is the largest and most diverse society on the globe. It spends almost 2 trillion dollars
every year on health care, which is one in every seven dollars in the economy. U.S is one of the very
few nations where all its citizens do not have medical coverage. Although it spends heavily on per
capita on health care, and it has the most advanced medical technology system in the world, still it is
not the healthiest nation on earth. The system performs so poorly that it leaves 50 million without
health coverage and millions more inadequately covered (Garson, 2010).

But Medicare now faces a serious funding crisis. The program's outlays––what it spends on health
care for its beneficiaries––are on the brink of surpassing its revenues. Unless it is fundamentally
restructured, the program will no longer exist when most of today's high–school students reach
retirement age in the year 2050. In fact, budget analysts predicted in 1996 that if nothing is done, the
program will go bankrupt much sooner: just three years from now, in 2001.
That is when Medicare's primary source of funding, the Hospital Insurance Trust Fund, is expected
to run out, according to the fund's trustees. In 1997, the fund had a surplus of more than $100
billion. But it is expected to dwindle to nearly zero by the year 2000, to run a $53 billion deficit in
2001 and to run a deficit in excess of $400 billion in 2005 (Kulesher, 2006).
Medicare's finances are in peril for two main reasons. The first is steadily rising health–care costs. In
1996, Medicare spending, at 12.2% of the federal budget, was the third–largest budget item. Only
Social Security (the federal government's pension plan for retirees) and defense spending consumed
a larger share. Medicare spending totaled $196 billion in 1996, and according to estimates from the
Congressional Budget Office (CBO), it will reach $312 billion in 2002.
The pressures exerted by rising health–care costs

My Life As A Social Perspective
Throughout my life I had a mindset that everything will find its place and thus accepted whatever
shore the waves of time landed me. For a good decade starting from my adolescence this was my
ideology. Perhaps I decided to be complacent because I had irrational fears towards the outcomes of
"trying." This seed of complacency sprouted when I developed vitiligo, the same skin condition
Michael Jackson had, around patches of skin on my head in my pre–teen years. It transformed my
light caramel skin into a distinguished white color. Regardless, it fueled my insecurities and
destroyed my past dreams of a "normal" life. Normal in the sense of what was portrayed in the
various television shows and movies that I was enslaved by. For many years I ... Show more content

It is in my first semester of attending Harry S. Truman College that cracks had started to form in the
shell that was my complacent mindset. My first semester at Truman was the largest turning point of
my life. It is during this time that I actually started to "try" and because I tried, I accelerated my
growth in knowledge and experiences. The transition from being a recluse to someone who needed
to interact with people on a daily basis was a shocking change, which displayed to me that the only
thing that prevented me from interacting with people was my misconstrued perspective brought
upon my insecurities. This was evident when I learned that staying silent was detrimental to
learning. I noticed that I stayed silent because I feared sounding stupid when asking questions to my
peers or professors but then I realized that I was sacrificing knowledge for the sake of how people
perceived me. College is a learning experience and it is okay to not know something because if I
knew the content already, why would I be there in the first place. This line of thinking allowed me to
be willing to answer and ask questions in all my classes. In turn, I was clearly distinguished from
my peers and gained the attention of my professors, whom would later become great assets to me.
This simple action of participating signified that I was willing to open myself up for criticism for the
sake of learning. Since I showed that

In his second term, Truman chaired a special committee to investigate the National Defense
Program to prevent war profiteering and wasteful spending in defense industries. He gained public
support and recognition for his straightforward reports and practical recommendations, and he won
the respect of his colleagues and the populace alike. Vice Presidency When FDR had to choose a
running mate for the 1944 presidential election, he deemed his acting vice president, Henry Wallace,
unacceptable. Wallace was disliked by many of the senior democrats in Washington, and since it was
apparent that Roosevelt might not survive his fourth term, the vice presidential pick was especially
important. Truman's popularity, as well as his reputation as a fiscally responsible man and a
defender of citizens' rights, made him an attractive option. Truman was initially reluctant to accept,
but once he received the nomination, he campaigned vigorously. Roosevelt and Truman were
elected in November of 1944, and Truman took the oath of office on January 20, 1945. He served as
vice president just 82 days before Roosevelt died of a massive stroke, and he was sworn in as

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were spies for the Soviet Union. They were citizens of the United States
and were convicted and executed for committing espionage. They were secretly relaying
information about technology and certain prototypes relating to the atomic bombs. This is one of the
most infamous cases of espionage.
Just nine days after Julius was arrested, United States Forces engaged in the Korean War. It is
important to understand not only how the Rosenbergs ended up in Sing Sing Prison but also how the
United States came to the swift conclusion of sentencing the Rosenbergs to such a severe degree.
This was, at the time, considered the most costly and most consequential act of espionage in the
Cold War in the eyes of the public. The media would repeatedly churn out loaded accusations,
giving the Rosenberg case the most worldwide interest since a trial a quarter of a century before.
There was much emphasis on how the couple was sentenced to death for a new crime in a new age,
the age of atomic destruction. The trial and harsh sentence was partly due to the mass hysteria
sweeping the United States. Everything involving the Rosenbergs was accompanied by banner
headlines. Understanding the atmosphere of America during the trials vital in seeing Truman's effect
on the Rosenberg's sentence. In 1950, there was deep mistrust among the public. Americans looked

Harry Truman's Life And Accomplishments
Harry Truman was born in Lamar Missouri on May 8 1884 to Mattie and John Anderson Truman.
Harry Truman's mother and father were unable to decide on his middle name: the two names
considered where first name of Mattie's father, Solomon, and the first name of John's father, Shipp.
Following a practice not uncommon among those of Scotch–Irish ancestry, Mattie and John Truman
gave their son the one letter middle name of "S". Harry's early years were spent on Mattie's father's
farm, and "Grandpa Young" adored the boy. No doubt Grandpa Young's fondness of the child
contributed to the contentment he enjoyed during his boyhood, the carefree circumstances that led
Truman in his later years to become fond of saying he had the happiest childhood imaginable. ...

Jimmy's father was James Pendergast, known as Alderman Jim, the founder of the Pendergast
dynasty and overlord in Kansas City's political machine. Harry accepted the Pendergast's offer to
run for eastern judge in Jackson County, a courthouse job in Independence. Despite the title, the
position was administrative rather than judicial and held some control over the disposition of
municipal funds. Truman won the 1922 election, but lost in his 1924 re–election bid. The county
courthouse was home to three "judgeships": the eastern judge, the position Truman held from 1922–
24, the wester judge, and the presiding judge. In 1926 Truman ran for presiding judge, again as part
of the Pendergast machine, and Truman served two four–year terms and at the end of the second of
these, in 1934, he for the US Senate as the state's Democratic contender, and he unseated the
Republican incumbent. He faced Republican challenge in the 1940 primary, but he prevailed and
held his seat. In 1944 Truman was elected vice–president when his running mate FDR won the

12th March In United States History On 12th March of 1884 The Mississippi University for Women
was officially chartered. It was originally called The Industrial Institute and College, but in 1920 the
name changed to the Mississippi State College for Women. In 1974, it was then again changed, for
the last time, to The Mississippi University for Women. Which this is the official name that it goes
by today. The Mississippi University for Women website states "Admitting men since 1982, MUW
still provides a high quality liberal arts education with a distinct emphasis on professional

Roosevelt in 1933. In this speech he explained to the average citizen what happened with the
banking crisis, why it happened, and how the government was going to fix it. He explained in the
commoner's vernacular the system in which banks invest a large majority of money people deposit
and keep only a small amount in currency. It is normally plentiful for the needs of the community,
but when people had started distrusting the banks and rushed to get their money out, the banks
weren't able to meet the rushed demand. By the 3rd of March hardly any banks were open for
business and to explain how the government had stopped the problem from escalating President
Roosevelt commented "It was then that I issued the proclamation providing for the national bank
holiday, and this was the first step in the Government's reconstruction of our financial and economic
fabric." (Roosevelt) This shows how they had began to fix the problem, and tells why all of the
banks were closed. The second step in repairing the economy was to extend the bank holiday which
was to be lifted gradually as different bank facilities were being rehabilitated. The bank holiday was
put into effect because it provided the time that was needed to for banks to be able to supply needed
currency. Roosevelt reassured people that none of the banks were worse off than they were

The Great Depression
I've always been a man who believes hoping a bad situation will "fix itself", should never be the
solution to said dilemma. President Herbert Hoovers policy on "voluntarism", as opposed to
Presidential elect, Franklin Roosevelt's policy on government funding to improve the maladies of
the distressed U.S citizen; would have deterred me as a voter, for republican re–election.
Additionally, I can indubitably see myself as an advocate for the common mans plight (no matter
what class I belonged to); rather than Herbert Hoover's tenet on helping big business, in hopes that
in turn they would help out their employees. Also, the high tariffs placed on foreign imports during
the Hoover administration would have contradicted with my views of ... Show more content on

When the Great Depression ended the era of the golden twenties, President Herbert Hoover passed
an act that began a detrimental domino effect, which resulted in two major breakdowns in
international trade. The Hawley–Smoot act of 1930 raised the tariffs from 38.5 to 60 percent,
justifying this act on the basis of protectionism, Herbert Hoover lost sight of the "big picture"; by
approving the tariff he not only made it even more difficult for foreign countries to pay their debts
off to the united states, he also initiated a type of "tariff war", when the foreign countries in response
raised their taxes on U.S imports. This act not only hurt international trade and began economic
warfare between allies; it also promoted an international political distrust between them. Franklin
Roosevelt helped remedy this bureaucratic blunder in 1934 by passing the Reciprocal Trade
Agreements Act, under this act the president was allowed to negotiate bilateral, mutual agreements
between countries on trade. What this meant is that the president could negotiate a fair agreement in
trade policy with other countries and instead of waiting for a two thirds congress vote it now only
had to wait for a majority vote; this act revolutionized the process of trade policy with foreign
countries. Another Roosevelt campaign promise that would have appealed to me as a voter in those
times, would have been the "New Deal" plan

The War Of The United States
In June of 1950, Communist forces from North Korea poured south across the 38th parallel in an
all–out attack on South Korea. Harry Truman was the U.S. President and had already made history
by dropping the first and only two atomic bombs on Asian cities just five years earlier. He knew
immediately and instinctively that this Communist attack had to be reversed or contained. And there
to execute this purpose, in theory, was Douglas MacArthur, the commander of the United Nations
forces in the region.
MacArthur began true to form, with a bold landing at Inchon in South Korea. He took the enemy by
surprise, liberated Seoul in eleven days and, by October 1st of 1950, brought UN forces–primarily
composed of Americans–back to the 38th parallel that the North Koreans had crossed. MacArthur
now wanted a "hot pursuit" , and Truman authorized him to cross the 38th parallel.
Truman, however, added a crucial strategic condition: Do not to provoke the Chinese to enter the
war, for that could spark World War III and possible nuclear Armageddon.
Right around then, things began going wrong, not only in the war effort but also in the relationship
between MacArthur and Truman.
When the two men met–for the only physical meeting of their lives–on a tiny coral islet in the
Pacific, MacArthur tellingly greeted his commander–in–chief but failed to salute. The two men then
met alone, before inviting others to join them. Truman made clear his overarching concern, one that

The Origins Of The Cold War
Cyra Mutesi–Kirenho
HI742/HI747– The Cold War, 1941–1991
How Important were individual figures in the origins of the Cold War?
The Cold War refers to a period post World War II characterised by a state of
political tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States both supported by
their allies from the Eastern and Western blocs respectively. Despite this being such
a pivotal point in modern history there is a lack of clarity stemming from much
debate regarding the catalyst for the Cold War and the 'start' as it were is instead
referred to as the origins. This is a debate made additionally difficult due to the
inconsistencies that lie between what actually occurred, the perception of the events
and their contemporary historical interpretations. Though there is not general
consensus between historians and scholars over the date of the Cold War, although
1941–1991 is a time span commonly agreed upon. The term was first coined by the
Bernard Baruch in 1947 to justly describe foreign relations at the time between the
Soviet Union and the United States which were in stark contrast with the World War
that had not long before ended1. On face value the origins of this war may appear
relatively simple– a mere conflict between the ideological bipolarities of communism
versus capitalism and their inability to peacefully co–exist. But in delving deeper one
may argue that it was not solely due to the aforementioned reasons but also down to

Harry S. Truman
Depending on how old you are, it is possible that you have experienced many great presidents
throughout your lifetime. Every single person in this world has their own view as to what a
president's role in the world should be, and how their values should reflect them. So far, the United
States has gone through 42 Presidents who have all offered many new ideas that have aided our
country tremendously. One of these great men was our 33rd President, Harry S. Truman who was
thrown into the presidents' seat on April 12, 1945 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt died suddenly.

After only two years as county judge, Truman became presiding judge, which he continued for the
next eight years of his life.
As the 1934 election rolled around, Truman, a firm supporter of Franklin Roosevelt, was chosen as
U.S. Senator from Missouri. Truman was one of thirteen new Democratic Senators; however, he
quickly distinguished himself as one of the hardest working members, and the single most loyal
supporter of President Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal" programs. He had emerged as
one of the most liked and admired men in the U.S. Congress. Truman was reelected in 1940 and
gained national attention as chairman of the Senate Committee to Investigate the National Defense
Program which was often referred to as the "Truman Committee". Trumans' good work impressed
FDR, who liked the way Truman used the committee to protect him from criticism.
In 1944 as FDR was nominated for a fourth term, he decided to drop Henry A. Wallace as vice
president and take Truman on board. After Truman had served only 82 days as Vice President,
Roosevelt died suddenly on April 12, 1945. Truman quickly took command and in his first address
to Congress he promised to continue Roosevelt's policies. Truman spent no time easing into the role
of president. That July he attended the Potsdam Conference of the Great Powers which discussed

Television And Its Impact On The World War II
In 1926 John Logie Baird transmitted his first image with his new mechanical television. As the
4"x2" image of his business partner illuminated his face, Baird was completely unaware of the
influence this new medium would have on the opinions and attitudes of the people of the world.
Television represented a new opportunity to bring not only audio like radio but to place an image in
every home. Along with the work of many other inventors television was soon to become a viable
medium of entertainment and news but it did face many setbacks. At first television was a novelty,
completely overshadowed by the established medium of radio. Before World War II very few homes
contained a television and broadcasters mostly aired 15 minute segments and were limited in
technology. Then on September 1, 1939 Hitler and Germany invaded Poland and the world plunged
into World War II. The FCC issued a ban on the construction of television equipment causing the
growth of television to stagnate. At the end of the war economic prosperity and a rising middle class
opened the door for a new rise in the purchase of goods. One such good was the television. In 1947
only a few thousand homes owned a television. By 1950 six million homes contained a television,
and in 1960 around 60 million homes contained a television. During this period a new war was
being waged: the Cold War. In this battle between United States and the Soviet Union ideals
propaganda was the main way to grow support for their cause

The Legacy Of Harry S Truman
Harry S Truman was born on May 8, 1884 in Lamar, Missouri. He was born into the family of
Martha Ellen Truman and John Anderson Truman, who was a mule trader as well as a farmer. Harry
was named after his uncle, Harrison Young. After his parents couldn't decide on a middle name they
settled with just the letter "S". He grew up on his father's farm in Independence, Missouri and
attended Independence High School (now William Chrisman High School). Since he did not attend
college, he had several jobs coming out of high school. Truman was known across the nation and
world as a successful senator, vice president, and a war–loving president. Truman first worked as a
railroad construction timekeeper. After that, he was a clerk for two separate banks each located in
Kansas City. When he wasn't thrilled with that lifestyle he returned home to help his family on the
farm and eventually joining the National Guard. The rising of World War I arose that passion.
However, he could have been exempt from the draft due to farming, but instead he began to
organize his regiment. His regiment was called into service in the 129th Field Artillery. When he
was in France, Truman got promoted to Captain and got the assignment to battery D that didn't have
a very good reputation. Despite being unruly, He got their respect and led them into a successful
battle in the Argonne Forest. When Truman returned home he paired up with his war partner, Eddie
Jacobson and they opened a hat shop in Kansas City.

Leadership of the Korean War
The Korean War, which started in June 25, 1950, was a result of high tensions between North Korea
and South Korea. North Korea wanted to push communism over to the non– communist Republic in
South Korea. When as the pressure developed, other nations became involved in the situation. The
Soviet Union and Communist China encouraged military conquer of South Korea. On the opposite
spectrum, The United Nations, including the Unites States, joined the fight against communism. The
leadership involved within the United States was President Harry S. Truman and General Douglas
MacArthur. These were the two influential people in the outcome of the Korean War. The
controversial topic was the atomic bomb. Was President Truman in the right to dismiss General
MacArthur from his military duties?
General Douglas MacArthur's rise in military power came at a young age. Born in Little Rock,
Arkansas, he was a descendant of a long line of military background. He once said, "I learned to ride
and shoot even before I could read or write". At the young age of 19 he attended West Point. With
his mother always watching over him, he was the top graduate, president of the student body, and
played sports such as baseball and football. After West Point he attended Engineer School of
Application. For his first assignment he was sailed to the Philippines. During his fourteen year
period in the Philippines he developed new defensive

Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States. Born on May 8, 1884, in Lamar,
Missouri, he was the oldest of three children. Truman had no middle name. His parents apparently
gave him the middle initial "S" to appease two family relatives.
At age six, his family moved to Independence, Missouri, where he attended Sunday school. There he
met five year–old Elizabeth Wallace, with whom he later fell in love with. Beginning school at age
eight, Truman modeled thick glasses to correct his poor eyesight. Fortunately, his eyesight did not

In April of 1919, Truman returned home, now as a major. On June 28th of the same year, he married
Elizabeth Wallace, his Sunday school love.
Truman decided to spark his political career. So he started by entering a four way Democratic
primary for a judgeship, which was essentially a job supervising roads and buildings. His popularity
was expected to increase if he got the support of the Ku Klux Klan, but Truman turned down this
idea. Even so, by campaigning his wartime record and his past history, Truman won the primary of
the election. In January of 1923, he was sworn into his first public office. One year later his only
daughter, Mary Margaret, was born. During his time as a judge, he improved roads and reduced the
inherited debt. By staying interested in the National Guard, he was promoted to colonel.
Next, Truman tested his luck in the Senate. After a long and hard battle, Truman defeated a
Republican opponent with the help of the New Deal. In January of 1935, he was sworn in as a
Senator from Missouri. His arrival in Washington was met with disdain. Colleagues didn't think he
was working for himself, and he was reviewed by White House authorities. Fortunately, by using his
knowledge in history and government, he was finally recognized and appointed to two important

President Truman And President Dwight D. Eisenhower
President Harry Truman and President Dwight D. Eisenhower were each president during the Cold
War. Harry Truman became president during the end of World War II in 1945. His final term ended
in 1953. Dwight Eisenhower became president in the midst of the Cold war in 1953 and his last term
ended on 1961. Truman was Democratic and Eisenhower was Republican. They each had many
occasions when their policies had similar intentions, but they went about them differently. Each
wanted to end the fighting and to limit the spread of communism. They each also wanted to help
strengthen other parts of the world. They tried to achieve these issues by enacting foreign policies in
military, political and economic situations. Truman and Eisenhower each wanted to help limit the
increasing issue of communism. One approach they did was getting involved physically and
militarily in the countries that were in need. The peace conference at Potsdam was a failure, because
communist Russia still stood on their own and as their own separate nation. The Soviet Union had
already succeeded in conquering Poland, and much of Europe splitting up Germany. After Hitler
committed suicide, the main obstacle for the United States and many other countries was to avoid
the looming threat of communism. Truman created the Truman Doctrine to possibly stop or
postpone this issue. "I believe," he argued, "that it must be the policy of the United States to support

A multitude of influential presidents have come and gone...
A multitude of influential presidents have come and gone in America, although none like Harry S.
Truman. This above average president is one to be recognized for his unbelievable achievements
within political foreign policies and governing here in the states. Although first struggling to gain his
balance after the sudden death of his predecessor, Truman remained loyal to the Unites States and
proved to be one of the most charismatic, and beneficial presidents that the nation has ever seen. The
influences of Truman's early life and introduction to politics, as well as the unexpected win of
presidency and constant failures and triumphs shaped this man's life as well as those of the
American people. Harry S. Truman was born in Lamar, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that year, Truman became first introduced to the world of politics when friend of the Truman
family asked him to run for judge in Kansas City. Little did Truman know that this was the
beginning of the biggest challenge of his life. Finding an unknown love for politics, Truman became
a senator in 1934, catapulting his life towards becoming Vice President of the United States under
Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In 1944, Truman was selected as the Vice President under FDR.
"Eighty–two days after Truman's election as vice president, he became president when Franklin D.
Roosevelt died in office on April 12, 1945" (Toropov 202). Truman completed the rest of FDR's
elected term before actually running himself in the 1948 presidential campaign against Governor
Thomas Dewey. After winning 49.5% of the votes over Dewey's 45.1% with a popular vote of
24,179,345 and electoral vote of 303, Truman was sworn into office on November 2nd, 1948 (
Miller Center: cite). Although winning by almost 4% of the votes, most expected Dewey to win. The
newspapers were quite shocked to find that Truman had won the election and their preprinted
"Dewey Defeats Truman" papers were now false and inaccurate. Truman's ability to cover the rest of
FDR's term without any prior warning or information was surprising and impressive to say the least.
After his success with the continuation of FDR's term it only made sense for Truman to run again
for a second term in office.

Farmer, Shipbuilder, And Soldier
Farmer, Shipbuilder, and Soldier
The build up of the armed services and the migration of workers to industrial centers such as
Portland created severe farm labor shortages. In 1944, back in Bradley, South Dakota, Audrey
Grigg's uncle and aunt, Robert and Bessie Brown couldn't find anyone to work their farmland. Ever
since Bessie inherited the land from her parents, tenant farmers kept it productive. Although Robert
grew up on a farm, he never farmed as an adult. Shortly after serving in World War I, he and his
brother, Harry, acquired a Ford dealership in Bradley, which they operated throughout the 1920s,
30s, and into the 40s as part–owners.
With no other solution evident for Bessie's farm to remain under cultivation, Robert approached his
brother, Harry, with a proposition to sell to him his share of the automobile dealership. The result of
such a transaction would free Robert up to run the farm himself. The brothers, however, couldn't
agree on the sale price. After unsuccessfully negotiating favorable terms, an exasperated Harry told
his brother that he needed to either buy or sell with the little over one thousand dollars in the
company's bank account. Robert agreed to these conditions and in a meeting at the bank to conclude
the business deal, Robert shocked Harry by buying, instead of selling, the dealership.
When Robert bought out his brother, he became sole owner of the Ford franchise. However, the
acquisition didn't resolve the original problem of

To What Extent Did Joseph Mccarthy And His Anti- Communist...
The purpose of this investigation is to examine the question "To what extent did Joseph McCarthy
and his anti– communist tactics have an impact on United States society?" I will cover how things in
the society has changed. McCarthyism also affected domestic and foreign policies, but I am going to
focus on American society. I will focus mainly the years around the McCarthy era which is 1950
through 1954. To help examine my topic, I will be using two books. The books are "Defining
moments: McCarthyism and the Communist Threat" and "Joe McCarthy and McCarthyism: The
hate that haunts America" The two sources will be valuable because they give a deep understanding
of what happened during the years 1950 through 1954. This books is one of Omnigraphics
"Defining Moments" books. Kevin Hillstrom, the author, has written many other books, including
books about history. This also shows this source is valuable because Omnigraphics has a lot of other
Defining Moment books that are about history.
The first source, "Defining moments: McCarthyism and the communist Threat," by Kevin Hillstrom,
is a secondary source and was published in 2011. Books Kevin Hillstrom wrote and edited has
received awards. He not only wrote books about history, he also covered topics about environmental
issues and culture. Although the book itself is a secondary source, it contains primary sources. There
are also biographies people wrote about Joseph McCarthy and other who were associated with

U.S In the Middle East
"The United States recognizes the provisional Government as the de facto authority of the new State
of Israel." These are the words of President Harry Truman from a speech he gave shortly after Israel
became a recognized nation in 1948. Consequently, the political leaders of the United States have
brought America on a rough journey to the current state of foreign policy and relationship with
Israel. Since 1948, the United States' active position in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict has seen very
little change or progress towards achieving settlement between these two nationalistic states. In the
last 65 years, the majority of U.S. presidents repeated mistakes made by their predecessors in office,
and this in turn has had little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since his presidency did not begin with Israel becoming a state, his focus was greatly adjusted and
at first there was a noticeable decline in aid and care for Israel's wellbeing. Israel was also rather
vulnerable during this time, due to the fact that there more Jewish refugees entering Israel from
surrounding Arab states. President Eisenhower convincingly proved that America had the ability to
influence Israel in a good way, although his presidency ended with the Middle East still in a state of
war. During Eisenhower's administration, there were two successful incidents of U.S. management
of Israel and in both circumstances, Eisenhower avoided the political compulsions of America's
attachment to Israel and instead forced the Israelis to act upon principle. Unfortunately, his
presidency was the last to give Israel undivided focus, for the ones to follow were absorbed in other
affairs and did not provide the same constructive support. In 1960, John F. Kennedy was elected as
President and his presidency took a vastly different turn than that of his predecessors. President
Kennedy approached the Israel–Palestine crisis with a goal of achieving peace between the two,
rather than simply a settlement. He wished to establish a better relationship with the Arabs and fully
supported Arab self–determination. Kennedy's formula

In the army he began his training at Fort Sill, in Oklahoma, but then returned to Missouri to help

The Elections of 1948 and 2004 Essay
The Elections of 1948 and 2004
The elections of 1948, and 2004 had many similarities. In both elections we had the two major
political parties, plus a third independent party. We had a war going on, polls trying to predict the
election, and two main candidates working on getting elected. The elections did have some
differences though. Money spent, mediums campaigned through, and the number of votes for the
third party. Despite the differences, there was one main similarity that stood out between the two
elections, the type of rhetoric used to sway votes from both sides.
In the election of 1948 Thomas Dewey rarely gave any plans, and even more rarely would he ever
try to tell us why he would make a better president than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his second attempt, he ran against incumbent President Truman. It may have been his second
attempt, but it was the first attempt by pollers to predict the outcome of a presidential election. The
polling agencies were quite sure Truman would be defeated. It could be that the polls were totally
wrong, or perhaps the polls effected the campaigns in an unexpected way. We do know that the
campaign of Dewey was effected by the polls. Since they showed him so far ahead, Dewey did little
in the way of campaigning. His running mate was so dissatisfied with the lack of campaigning he
was quoted as saying, "Just once, I'd like to call someone an S.O.B." ("1948: The Great Truman
Surprise") Towards the end of the campaign though, the polls showed the gap closing, but everyone
figured it was too little too late. The Chicago Tribune even had printed its paper with a headline
proclaiming Dewey's victory.
The campaign although almost nonexistent, did still have a few of interesting propaganda pieces.
The first of which, the least persuasive one, was a simple pin–on button with a giant H on the left
side to form the words Help Harry Hurry Home. There really are no persuasive words here at all.
Instead, it is more of a bandwagon/rally phrase, so it would loosely fit into the category of pathos.

The United States And The Korean War Essay
On June 25, 1950, the North Korean military, acting at the behest of the People's Republic of China
and the Soviet Union, engaged in an unprovoked and unexpected invasion of South Korea. The
international community, led by the United States and the United Nations, understood this action to
be an act of aggression, which was eventually repelled. The American decision to defend South
Korea is easy to discern as an implementation of containment. From this, American motives can be
interpreted as defensive. It is frequently asserted that the shock of the Korean War was decisive in
leading to a massive change in American military posture associated with the National Security
Council memorandum, NSC–68. The implementation of the NSC–68 led to a threefold increase in
military spending in the United States. Given the dramatic nature of the communist aggression,
policymakers had no choice but to increase military spending. It is generally accepted that the
implementation of rearmament, advocated for in the NSC–68, was closely connected to the Korean
War. The elevated level of international tension that resulted from the North Korean invasion was
one of the key shocks that convinced policymakers to accept the recommendations of the NSC–68
and to implement massive rearmament. However, prior declassified information casts doubt on this
interpretation. In fact, key figures in the Truman administration had already accepted the logic of the
NSC–68 and were determined to implement the

Harry Truman 's Fair Deal
After a decade of Democracy, the Republican party moved into the White House. Along with this
shift in the government, there were also many economical and social issues that followed along.
Once the first election of the decade in 1952, the government started to factor in the Korean War,
inflation, the New Deal, Harry Truman's Fair Deal, and the major problem with John McCarthy and
McCarthyism. In the background of the politics in the nation, economically things were changing.
As World War II was ending and the Korean War was in its early stages, a period of inflation
affected the United States. In order to deal with the rate of inflation old policies resurfaced and new
policies were created, and finally groups of people were organized to maintain stability with the
policies. Ultimately in the end the economic played a role in how the nation played out socially. This
was the decade that: the baby boomers peaked, laws and protection plans were created to give
veterans education and jobs, and finally civil rights movements were initiated. During the 1950's
government, financing, and social had rapid and powerful movements and changes.
When it comes to the politics across the nation during this decade there were two elections, some
trials, and new acts and legislations. After the Democratic party ruled the White House for a decade,
it all changed with the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. At the beginning of the decade in

Harry S. Truman 's Life
Over seventy years ago, one may have thought that one of most courageous, hard–working, honest,
and loyal men was sworn into office as the President of the United States. Harry S. Truman was
considered "One Tough Son –of–a–Bitch" due to his expertise, not because of his ordinary, basic
look or lack of college education. No matter how people perceived him, Truman had industrial–
strength; he stood his ground on his beliefs. His life would take him one of the most elaborate rides
one could experience. Truman's formative years taught him endurance, his life in the war taught him
courage, and presidency taught him resilience. Although when growing up Truman was never
allowed to roughhouse or horseplay with other children because his mother truly sheltered him
because of his glasses. He considered himself a 'sissy' and a bookworm. Truman worked on the
Truman Farm. He was a 'real farmer, he worked in all types of weather, with crops that had failed to

one–and–a–half years old. Eisenhower was the third oldest of his parent's seven children.
Eisenhower attended Abilene High School until he graduated in 1909. For the next two years after
his graduation, he worked at a creamery with his uncle and his father to help pay for his brother's
college tuition. In 1911, he was admitted into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Throughout
high school and college, Eisenhower enjoyed participating in various sports, but academically, he
was average. After graduating in 1915, he became second lieutenant at ... Show more content on

He was able to defeat Robert A. Taft to get his name on the ballot, and Richard Nixon became
Eisenhower's running mate. In his campaign, he promised to end the Korean War. Also, he promoted
the Taft–Hartley Act to stop labor union acts. He also promised for the government to stop spending
so much money on military. On November 4, 1952, Eisenhower was elected president against his
political opponent, Adlai Stevenson, by a landslide. Eisenhower served as president for eight years
from January 20, 1953 to January 20, 1961, winning the presidential election in 1956. In 1956, his
opponent was, once again, Adlai Stevenson. Eisenhower's success in ending the Korean War and
helping the nation as a whole helped him win the election even with his health conditions. During
his time as president, the biggest challenge he faced was how to deal with the Civil Rights issue.
Many African Americans and minorities were still discriminated in this time period. Also, after the
Cold War, Joseph McCarthy convinced many people to believe that the government was being
overtaken by communism. Also, Eisenhower had to deal with some recessions during this time.
However, the 1950s was actually a quite peaceful period economically for the most part.
Eisenhower completed a lot during his eight years as president. He helped stop the Korean War and
developed the interstate highway system. Also, in 1957 and 1960, he signed two Civil Rights Acts
that helped protect African American

High School education, he served in World War I in Missouri's National Guard as a Captain. As a

great musician. He played the piano. Harry grew up in Independence, and for 12 years he grew up as
a Missouri farmer raised on the family farm. Harry's parents gave him the middle initial "S" to honor
his grandfathers, Anderson Shipp Truman and Solomon Young, though the S didn't stand for a

During his presidency, Truman had many great accomplishments that led him to become a very

President Harry S. Truman wasn't only just a president, he was a US army soldier, a democratic
senator, presiding judge, and a vice president. Before his presidency, he fought in World War 1.
Recapping his roles before the presidency, once the war ended, Truman got discharged from the
army and then went to attend Kansas City school of law. This is when he was on the road to
becoming president. In 1933 Franklin d Roosevelt was elected 32nd president. Harry S. got elected
presiding judge of the Jackson County Court and then was sworn in. He served two four year terms
through 1934 as a judge. During this time Harry Truman became a U.S. senator by 1935. On August
31, 1944 Truman commences his vice presidential campaign from where he was born Lamar,
Missouri. Shortly afterwards, Truman was elected vice president on November 7 of the same year.
Following the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman was sworn in as thirty–third president
of the United States of America on April 12, 1945. A day after Germany surrendered to the Allies,
Truman called for the end of the war in Europe; this is known as V–E Day, aka Victory in Europe
Day. This is now a public holiday celebrated on May 8th 1945. World War II (1939–19455) had
been going on before Truman got into office as president. Although he wasn't in office when it
started, he had been in office when it ended. August 6, 1945 was the day Truman called for

Healthcare System In Us

  • 1. Healthcare System in Us Running Head: Healthcare System Healthcare System in US [Name of the Writer] [Name of the Institution] Healthcare System in US Introduction United States is the largest and most diverse society on the globe. It spends almost 2 trillion dollars every year on health care, which is one in every seven dollars in the economy. U.S is one of the very few nations where all its citizens do not have medical coverage. Although it spends heavily on per capita on health care, and it has the most advanced medical technology system in the world, still it is not the healthiest nation on earth. The system performs so poorly that it leaves 50 million without health coverage and millions more inadequately covered (Garson, 2010). Discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But Medicare now faces a serious funding crisis. The program's outlays––what it spends on health care for its beneficiaries––are on the brink of surpassing its revenues. Unless it is fundamentally restructured, the program will no longer exist when most of today's high–school students reach retirement age in the year 2050. In fact, budget analysts predicted in 1996 that if nothing is done, the program will go bankrupt much sooner: just three years from now, in 2001. That is when Medicare's primary source of funding, the Hospital Insurance Trust Fund, is expected to run out, according to the fund's trustees. In 1997, the fund had a surplus of more than $100 billion. But it is expected to dwindle to nearly zero by the year 2000, to run a $53 billion deficit in 2001 and to run a deficit in excess of $400 billion in 2005 (Kulesher, 2006). Medicare's finances are in peril for two main reasons. The first is steadily rising health–care costs. In 1996, Medicare spending, at 12.2% of the federal budget, was the third–largest budget item. Only Social Security (the federal government's pension plan for retirees) and defense spending consumed a larger share. Medicare spending totaled $196 billion in 1996, and according to estimates from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), it will reach $312 billion in 2002. The pressures exerted by rising health–care costs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. My Life As A Social Perspective Throughout my life I had a mindset that everything will find its place and thus accepted whatever shore the waves of time landed me. For a good decade starting from my adolescence this was my ideology. Perhaps I decided to be complacent because I had irrational fears towards the outcomes of "trying." This seed of complacency sprouted when I developed vitiligo, the same skin condition Michael Jackson had, around patches of skin on my head in my pre–teen years. It transformed my light caramel skin into a distinguished white color. Regardless, it fueled my insecurities and destroyed my past dreams of a "normal" life. Normal in the sense of what was portrayed in the various television shows and movies that I was enslaved by. For many years I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is in my first semester of attending Harry S. Truman College that cracks had started to form in the shell that was my complacent mindset. My first semester at Truman was the largest turning point of my life. It is during this time that I actually started to "try" and because I tried, I accelerated my growth in knowledge and experiences. The transition from being a recluse to someone who needed to interact with people on a daily basis was a shocking change, which displayed to me that the only thing that prevented me from interacting with people was my misconstrued perspective brought upon my insecurities. This was evident when I learned that staying silent was detrimental to learning. I noticed that I stayed silent because I feared sounding stupid when asking questions to my peers or professors but then I realized that I was sacrificing knowledge for the sake of how people perceived me. College is a learning experience and it is okay to not know something because if I knew the content already, why would I be there in the first place. This line of thinking allowed me to be willing to answer and ask questions in all my classes. In turn, I was clearly distinguished from my peers and gained the attention of my professors, whom would later become great assets to me. This simple action of participating signified that I was willing to open myself up for criticism for the sake of learning. Since I showed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were citizens of the United States and were convicted and executed for committing espionage. They were secretly relaying information about technology and certain prototypes relating to the atomic bombs. This is one of the most infamous cases of espionage. Just nine days after Julius was arrested, United States Forces engaged in the Korean War. It is important to understand not only how the Rosenbergs ended up in Sing Sing Prison but also how the United States came to the swift conclusion of sentencing the Rosenbergs to such a severe degree. This was, at the time, considered the most costly and most consequential act of espionage in the Cold War in the eyes of the public. The media would repeatedly churn out loaded accusations, giving the Rosenberg case the most worldwide interest since a trial a quarter of a century before. There was much emphasis on how the couple was sentenced to death for a new crime in a new age, the age of atomic destruction. The trial and harsh sentence was partly due to the mass hysteria sweeping the United States. Everything involving the Rosenbergs was accompanied by banner headlines. Harry's early years were spent on Mattie's father's farm, and "Grandpa Young" adored the boy. The Mississippi University for Women website states "Admitting men since 1982, MUW still provides a high quality liberal arts education with a distinct emphasis on professional development and leadership opportunities for women." In this speech he explained to the average citizen what happened with the banking crisis, why it happened, and how the government was going to fix it. He explained in the commoner's vernacular the system in which banks invest a large majority of money people deposit and keep only a small amount in currency. It is normally plentiful for the needs of the community, but when people had started distrusting the banks and rushed to get their money out, the banks weren't able to meet the rushed demand. By the 3rd of March hardly any banks were open for business and to explain how the government had stopped the problem from escalating President Roosevelt commented "It was then that I issued the proclamation providing for the national bank holiday, and this was the first step in the Government's reconstruction of our financial and economic fabric." (Roosevelt) This shows how they had began to fix the problem, and tells why all of the banks were closed. The second step in repairing the economy was to extend the bank holiday which was to be lifted gradually as different bank facilities were being rehabilitated. The bank holiday was put into effect because it provided the time that was needed to for banks to be able to supply needed currency. • 17. The Great Depression I've always been a man who believes hoping a bad situation will "fix itself", should never be the solution to said dilemma. President Herbert Hoovers policy on "voluntarism", as opposed to Presidential elect, Franklin Roosevelt's policy on government funding to improve the maladies of the distressed U.S citizen; would have deterred me as a voter, for republican re–election. Additionally, I can indubitably see myself as an advocate for the common mans plight (no matter what class I belonged to); rather than Herbert Hoover's tenet on helping big business, in hopes that in turn they would help out their employees. Also, the high tariffs placed on foreign imports during the Hoover administration would have contradicted with my views of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Great Depression ended the era of the golden twenties, President Herbert Hoover passed an act that began a detrimental domino effect, which resulted in two major breakdowns in international trade. The Hawley–Smoot act of 1930 raised the tariffs from 38.5 to 60 percent, justifying this act on the basis of protectionism, Herbert Hoover lost sight of the "big picture"; by approving the tariff he not only made it even more difficult for foreign countries to pay their debts off to the united states, he also initiated a type of "tariff war", when the foreign countries in response raised their taxes on U.S imports. This act not only hurt international trade and began economic warfare between allies; it also promoted an international political distrust between them. Franklin Roosevelt helped remedy this bureaucratic blunder in 1934 by passing the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act, under this act the president was allowed to negotiate bilateral, mutual agreements between countries on trade. What this meant is that the president could negotiate a fair agreement in trade policy with other countries and instead of waiting for a two thirds congress vote it now only had to wait for a majority vote; this act revolutionized the process of trade policy with foreign countries. Another Roosevelt campaign promise that would have appealed to me as a voter in those times, would have been the "New Deal" plan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The War Of The United States In June of 1950, Communist forces from North Korea poured south across the 38th parallel in an all–out attack on South Korea. Harry Truman was the U.S. President and had already made history by dropping the first and only two atomic bombs on Asian cities just five years earlier. He knew immediately and instinctively that this Communist attack had to be reversed or contained. And there to execute this purpose, in theory, was Douglas MacArthur, the commander of the United Nations forces in the region. MacArthur began true to form, with a bold landing at Inchon in South Korea. He took the enemy by surprise, liberated Seoul in eleven days and, by October 1st of 1950, brought UN forces–primarily composed of Americans–back to the 38th parallel that the North Koreans had crossed. MacArthur now wanted a "hot pursuit" , and Truman authorized him to cross the 38th parallel. Truman, however, added a crucial strategic condition: Do not to provoke the Chinese to enter the war, for that could spark World War III and possible nuclear Armageddon. Right around then, things began going wrong, not only in the war effort but also in the relationship between MacArthur and Truman. When the two men met–for the only physical meeting of their lives–on a tiny coral islet in the Pacific, MacArthur tellingly greeted his commander–in–chief but failed to salute. The two men then met alone, before inviting others to join them. Truman made clear his overarching concern, one that Clausewitz would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Origins Of The Cold War Cyra Mutesi–Kirenho HI742/HI747– The Cold War, 1941–1991 How Important were individual figures in the origins of the Cold War? The Cold War refers to a period post World War II characterised by a state of political tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States both supported by their allies from the Eastern and Western blocs respectively. Despite this being such a pivotal point in modern history there is a lack of clarity stemming from much debate regarding the catalyst for the Cold War and the 'start' as it were is instead referred to as the origins. This is a debate made additionally difficult due to the inconsistencies that lie between what actually occurred, the perception of the events and their contemporary historical interpretations. Though there is not general consensus between historians and scholars over the date of the Cold War, although 1941–1991 is a time span commonly agreed upon. The term was first coined by the Bernard Baruch in 1947 to justly describe foreign relations at the time between the Soviet Union and the United States which were in stark contrast with the World War that had not long before ended1. On face value the origins of this war may appear relatively simple– a mere conflict between the ideological bipolarities of communism versus capitalism and their inability to peacefully co–exist. Truman was reelected in 1940 and gained national attention as chairman of the Senate Committee to Investigate the National Defense Program which was often referred to as the "Truman Committee". Trumans' good work impressed FDR, who liked the way Truman used the committee to protect him from criticism. In 1944 as FDR was nominated for a fourth term, he decided to drop Henry A. • 26. Television And Its Impact On The World War II In 1926 John Logie Baird transmitted his first image with his new mechanical television. As the 4"x2" image of his business partner illuminated his face, Baird was completely unaware of the influence this new medium would have on the opinions and attitudes of the people of the world. Television represented a new opportunity to bring not only audio like radio but to place an image in every home. Along with the work of many other inventors television was soon to become a viable medium of entertainment and news but it did face many setbacks. At first television was a novelty, completely overshadowed by the established medium of radio. Before World War II very few homes contained a television and broadcasters mostly aired 15 minute segments and were limited in technology. Then on September 1, 1939 Hitler and Germany invaded Poland and the world plunged into World War II. The FCC issued a ban on the construction of television equipment causing the growth of television to stagnate. At the end of the war economic prosperity and a rising middle class opened the door for a new rise in the purchase of goods. One such good was the television. In 1947 only a few thousand homes owned a television. By 1950 six million homes contained a television, and in 1960 around 60 million homes contained a television. During this period a new war was being waged: the Cold War. In this battle between United States and the Soviet Union ideals propaganda was the main way to grow support for their cause ... Harry Truman became president during the end of World War II in 1945. His final term ended in 1953. Dwight Eisenhower became president in the midst of the Cold war in 1953 and his last term ended on 1961. Truman was Democratic and Eisenhower was Republican. They each had many occasions when their policies had similar intentions, but they went about them differently. Each wanted to end the fighting and to limit the spread of communism. They each also wanted to help strengthen other parts of the world. They tried to achieve these issues by enacting foreign policies in military, political and economic situations. Truman and Eisenhower each wanted to help limit the increasing issue of communism. One approach they did was getting involved physically and militarily in the countries that were in need. The peace conference at Potsdam was a failure, because communist Russia still stood on their own and as their own separate nation. The Soviet Union had already succeeded in conquering Poland, and much of Europe splitting up Germany. After Hitler committed suicide, the main obstacle for the United States and many other countries was to avoid the looming threat of communism. Truman created the Truman Doctrine to possibly stop or postpone this issue. I will cover how things in the society has changed. McCarthyism also affected domestic and foreign policies, but I am going to focus on American society. I will focus mainly the years around the McCarthy era which is 1950 through 1954. To help examine my topic, I will be using two books. The books are "Defining moments: McCarthyism and the Communist Threat" and "Joe McCarthy and McCarthyism: The hate that haunts America" The two sources will be valuable because they give a deep understanding of what happened during the years 1950 through 1954. This books is one of Omnigraphics "Defining Moments" books. Kevin Hillstrom, the author, has written many other books, including books about history. This also shows this source is valuable because Omnigraphics has a lot of other Defining Moment books that are about history. The first source, "Defining moments: McCarthyism and the communist Threat," by Kevin Hillstrom, is a secondary source and was published in 2011. Books Kevin Hillstrom wrote and edited has received awards. He not only wrote books about history, he also covered topics about environmental issues and culture. These are the words of President Harry Truman from a speech he gave shortly after Israel became a recognized nation in 1948. Since 1948, the United States' active position in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict has seen very little change or progress towards achieving settlement between these two nationalistic states. President Eisenhower convincingly proved that America had the ability to influence Israel in a good way, although his presidency ended with the Middle East still in a state of war. During Eisenhower's administration, there were two successful incidents of U.S. management of Israel and in both circumstances, Eisenhower avoided the political compulsions of America's attachment to Israel and instead forced the Israelis to act upon principle. Unfortunately, his presidency was the last to give Israel undivided focus, for the ones to follow were absorbed in other affairs and did not provide the same constructive support. In 1960, John F. He was given command of Battery D, a rowdy and out of control group, otherwise known as Dizzy D. Truman succeeded in taming his unit, and the Dizzy D distinguished themselves through the battles of Argonne and Saint–Mihiel. In April of 1919, Truman returned home, now as a major. On June 28th of the same year, he married Elizabeth Wallace, his Sunday school love. Truman decided to spark his political career. So he started by entering a four way Democratic primary for a judgeship, which was essentially a job supervising roads and buildings. • 54. The Elections of 1948 and 2004 Essay The Elections of 1948 and 2004 The elections of 1948, and 2004 had many similarities. In both elections we had the two major political parties, plus a third independent party. We had a war going on, polls trying to predict the election, and two main candidates working on getting elected. The elections did have some differences though. Money spent, mediums campaigned through, and the number of votes for the third party. Despite the differences, there was one main similarity that stood out between the two elections, the type of rhetoric used to sway votes from both sides. In the election of 1948 Thomas Dewey rarely gave any plans, and even more rarely would he ever try to tell us why he would make a better president than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his second attempt, he ran against incumbent President Truman. It may have been his second attempt, but it was the first attempt by pollers to predict the outcome of a presidential election. The polling agencies were quite sure Truman would be defeated. It could be that the polls were totally wrong, or perhaps the polls effected the campaigns in an unexpected way. We do know that the campaign of Dewey was effected by the polls. Since they showed him so far ahead, Dewey did little in the way of campaigning. His running mate was so dissatisfied with the lack of campaigning he was quoted as saying, "Just once, I'd like to call someone an S.O.B." ("1948: The Great Truman Surprise") Towards the end of the campaign though, the polls showed the gap closing, but everyone figured it was too little too late. The Chicago Tribune even had printed its paper with a headline proclaiming Dewey's victory. The campaign although almost nonexistent, did still have a few of interesting propaganda pieces. The first of which, the least persuasive one, was a simple pin–on button with a giant H on the left side to form the words Help Harry Hurry Home. There really are no persuasive words here at all. Instead, it is more of a bandwagon/rally phrase, so it would loosely fit into the category of pathos. Next would again be a pin. It read "Don't be an" vote for Dewey ("Collecting Thomas E. ... • 60. The United States And The Korean War Essay On June 25, 1950, the North Korean military, acting at the behest of the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union, engaged in an unprovoked and unexpected invasion of South Korea. The international community, led by the United States and the United Nations, understood this action to be an act of aggression, which was eventually repelled. The American decision to defend South Korea is easy to discern as an implementation of containment. From this, American motives can be interpreted as defensive. It is frequently asserted that the shock of the Korean War was decisive in leading to a massive change in American military posture associated with the National Security Council memorandum, NSC–68. The implementation of the NSC–68 led to a threefold increase in military spending in the United States. Given the dramatic nature of the communist aggression, policymakers had no choice but to increase military spending. It is generally accepted that the implementation of rearmament, advocated for in the NSC–68, was closely connected to the Korean War. The elevated level of international tension that resulted from the North Korean invasion was one of the key shocks that convinced policymakers to accept the recommendations of the NSC–68 and to implement massive rearmament. However, prior declassified information casts doubt on this interpretation. In fact, key figures in the Truman administration had already accepted the logic of the NSC–68 and were determined to implement the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
