Meet Susan!
1. Feeling bad
Susan woke up with a splitting headache. She also had a runny nose
and was feeling all sore – she obviously was going down with
something.
She got up, and felt a terrible pain in her back.
“Ouch, my back is killing me!”
She went to the doctor, and when he saw her he asked the stupidest
question ever:
“Feeling a bit under the weather, are we?”
“Well, yes, actually I am a bit off-colour today.”

2. Work
Although she felt really bad, Susan had to go to work. It was crunch
time – her company was closing a very important contract, so she just
had to be there. What is more, they were operating with a skeleton
crew, so she really would be missed. And on top of all that, she had
been pounding the pavement for months before she got that job.
“I really have to go,” she thought sadly.
She was suspecting that her bad health was really caused by being
overworked.
“I’ve really been burning the candle at both ends recently,” she
thought.
When she walked into the office, she saw John. As usual, he was up to
his ears in work.

3. Communicating
“Hi John.”
“Hi Susan. I need to have a quick word with you.”
“What’s the matter?”
“I heard on the grapevine that someone is going to be promoted!”
“What? How? Who?” asked Susan impatiently.
“OK, let me admit it, I heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. The
boss told me.”
Susan knew John might be telling the truth – he and the boss were on
the same wavelength, and spent a lot of time chatting after work.
“Well,” she said, “stop beating about the bush and tell me who!”

4. Feeling happy
And then the boss came.
“Susan,” he said, “I’m so happy to see you! I am excited to tell you
you’ve been promoted to senior specialist!”
Susan couldn’t believe it.
“Really? You’ve made my day!”
She was really on cloud nine, and eager to share her happiness. The
closest person, apart from the boss, was John, so she jumped into his
shoulders and shouted:
“John, I’m in seventh heaven!”
“Yeah, I really can see you are over the moon. Congratulations!”
“Wow, I’m thrilled to bits! Yippee!”

5. Love
Surprisingly, Susan had never noticed that John only had eyes for her.
So when she jumped into his arms, it was a dream come true, and his
heart beat faster. He decided it was a good moment to tell her about
his feelings.
“Susan, I have to tell you something.”
“Yeah, I know, I’ve been promoted!”
“No, not that. You know like we always get on like a house on fire?”
“Yes…” answered Susan suspiciously.
“And whenever you need a shoulder to cry on, I am there for you?”
“Well yes, but…”
“I have to say this: I have a crush on you.”
