1. Russian hedgehog
When you think of Russia, the first animal that probably comes to mind is a bear, the
legendary and shy monster from Taiga. However, Russian forest is home to another
creature which is much easier to spot: Russian hedgehog.
In Russia, hedgehogs are called "iozhik". The hedgehog is an animal, which is active at
night. In the afternoon they sleep in their nests. The animal appears brownish with most
of its body covered by up to 6,000 brown and white spines. Like small, warmer-climate
species, Russian hedgehog may hibernate in winter. However, most wake at least once
to move their nests.
This cute animal is also known as "ordinary hedgehog" or "European hedgehog". It isn't
a national symbol of Russia, but it is important for farming.
If you take a tour to the Russian Taiga, don't miss chance to take a photograph of this
animal!
