and the theme of the text.
• Paradigms can be grouped in the iconography
of the text.

• The audience can interact with the
iconography as they may be able to connect

Thriller:
• Often contains narrative lines with
excitement, suspense, confusion.

under threat from a dangerous enemy.
• Death or capture.
Horror:
• Frequent images of haunted houses,
graveyards, blood, dead people,
weapons etc..
• Often set in areas which make people
vulnerable or have a sense of fear.

• Futuristic elements, space, technology.
• Set in the future ot time travel.

7. • Genre is important for the media producers as they need to be able to engage
with the audience through genre for the product to be successful. On the other
hand the film audiences need to be engaged with the genre to be able to enjoy
and want to see the film.
Audience
• The audience already know what genre they like, therefore they will select the the
text due to this.
• The audience will bring their own codes and conventions to the text of their liking.
• They will be able to understand and except the stereotypes of the genre.
• As the audience we use the genre to satisfy our needs.
• Sometimes the audience can relate to the genre they are viewing or listening to.
Media producers
• The producers need to know what genre the intended audience like to see if its
going to be successful.
8. • Genre can become limiting when it comes to
newspapers, magazines and radio.
• When combing to or more genres it may clash
as some genre’s don’t go together.
• Too generalised need for sub genre’s.
• If the genre is popular, the codes and
conventions must follow the genre.
