2. Located in Wisconsin, Edgerton Hospital and Health Services
provides a range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency
medical services to its local community. Following a review by
the American College of Radiologists (ACR), Edgerton
Hospital received another three-year accreditation term in
mammography, a low-dose x-ray technique used to perform
breast cancer screenings. The ACR awards its gold seal of
approval to select organizations meeting the highest
standards of image quality and safety.
Since 1987, the ACR has granted accreditation to more than
35,000 facilities across 10 imaging modalities.
3. In recent years, the ACR has streamlined its
application process to allow completion of many
accreditation evaluations in 90 days or less. As part of
its mammography accreditation program, the ACR
reviews staff qualifications, quality control, equipment,
dosage, and image quality. All medical facilities that
perform mammograms must attain ACR certification to
achieve compliance with the Mammography Quality
Standards Act (MQSA).
To streamline the process, ACR offers an online
accreditation system. In addition, the organization
allows facilities to submit electronic images to expedite
the required image reviews.
