- Acupressure originated in India over 5000 years ago and was a precursor to acupuncture, which developed in Sri Lanka and spread to China and Japan.
- Acupressure involves applying pressure to specific points on the body using the fingers or other tools to promote healing and relieve diseases and conditions.
- The World Health Organization recognizes acupressure as an effective therapy for many ailments involving the muscles, nerves and internal organs.
- When practiced correctly and regularly, acupressure
4. It went to Sri Lanka in the
form of “Acupuncture.”
From Sri Lanka it was taken
to China & Japan by the
Buddhist Monks or Nomadic
Aryans.
5. In Japan its know as Shiatsu
Shiatsu means - “Finger Pressure”
In Korea its known as Sujok
Sujok means – ‘Su’ means Hand
‘Jok’ means Palm
At Present China is teaching Acupuncture to
the World
6. This Therapy was known to red
Indians way back to U.S. in
sixteenth Century.
In the 20th Century, researches
have been made in USA.
Which have contributed greatly
to the development of this
therapy.
7. It has been practiced by many
Allopathic and Naturopathic
doctors over there.
Now the World Health
Organization (W.H.O.) too has
paid attention to this simple
and easy therapy
8. The word Acupressure is related
to “Acupuncture”
The word Acu – means ‘Needle’
Puncture – means ‘To Pierce’
Therefore Acupuncture means an
art of treating disease by
piercing specific points in the
body.
9. Acupressure means an art of
treating disease by applying
pressure on specific points on the
palm and sole of feet with the
help of one’s thumb, fingers, knee,
elbow or acupressure device
made of wood, plastic or rubber
are called “Jimi”
10. Purpose of Acupressure
The purpose of acupressure is to
promote the body’s own healing
power.
When the key Acupressure Points
on the surface of skin are pressed-
muscular tension is released, the
circulation of blood and body’s
vital life energy is promoted.
11. Acupressure is useful in all diseases. It is a
side-effect-free therapy and can be
incorporated with other treatment
systems. Some important diseases which
can be benefitted with this therapy are
listed below.
Acupressure has an immediate effect on
sudden heart pain and blockage in
arteries.
12. W.H.O. (World Health Organization) has accepted the
importance of acupressure and acupuncture therapy in
Sciatica
Cervical spondylitis
Diseases of the spine,
Frozen shoulder,
Knee pain,
Bedwetting,
Stomach ulcers, Constipation ,Gastric Trouble & Acidity
Headaches including migraine, insomnia
Abnormalities of the nervous system,
Tonsillitis, Sinusitis, Bronchitis Asthma,
Ear, nose and throat infections,,
Paralysis etc.
13. • In relieving stomach diseases, diabetes,
and mental conditions.
• This therapy, along with treating a
disease, is also a tool for disease
diagnosis, revealing which organs or
glands are not working optimally if the
pain is experienced when the pressure
point is stimulated
14. Sometimes, it so happens that
laboratory tests do not reveal the
causative factors of a disease. In
such cases, acupressure can be
exceptionally helpful in locating the
disease's causative organs, glands,
or systems
15. Timing
Acupressure can be done anytime. If one is
taking treatment for organs related to the
digestive system (such as stomach, intestines,
liver, kidney, gall bladder etc.) then it is ideal to
do acupressure either 2 to 3 hours before a meal
or 2 to 3 hours after a meal.
It is best done before meals so the body can
focus the energy on the treatment instead of
digestion. However, it can be done one hour after
drinking a glass of milk or eating some fruit.
16. Duration
Pressure can be put for a period of 30 seconds to 2
minutes on each pressure point. The health of a
person determines this duration. Otherwise, a
person can become unconscious.
Do not apply pressure to anyone point constantly
but keep applying pressure to various points
sequentially.
Do acupressure twice a day, morning and
evening. In cases of pain, etc., it can be done 3
times a day.
17. Precautions
Acupressure should not be used for the
certain conditions That requires medical
care such as:
Serious Burns, Ulcers or Infections
Pregnant and Intestinal Cancer Patients
should be avoided to apply abdominal
pressure.
18. From The View Point of Health
World Could Be Divided Into
A. (About 60%) – Those people who are healthy but
liable to catch diseases. With regular Acupressure
Therapy Sessions their illness can be prevented.
B. (About 25%) – Those people who are suffering at
present but can be cured with minimum cost with the
help of this science and prevented from falling ill
again
C.(About 15%) – Those who requires medical help,
medicines and or surgery. There are enough
practitioners and hospitals in the world to take care
of them. Afterwards they can also be prevented from
falling ill with use of Acupressure Therapy.
19. With Proper Propagation $ teaching of this science, most of the health
problems of the world can be solved. This can be easily done as mentioned
below:
This therapy should be learnt by teachers of high
schools and professors at the college level and
taught as voluntary subject.
These students in turn, will propagate this therapy
at their homes as well as in the community around
during their vacations.
Retired teachers, professors, government servants
and other educated people can learn it and
conduct classes to teach it to others,
20. The press can greatly assist by regularly publishing
articles on various aspects of this therapy and the
experiences of their readers.
It can also be propagated through the media like
radio, TV, cinema and other social media channels.
Philanthropists and charitable organizations, religious
minded people and religious institutions can adopt
this as “GOD GIVEN THERAPY” and work for its
propagation.
The huge amount which is being spent on health
problems can better be diverted towards better
hygiene. Better and cheaper supply of nutritious food
to the people and thus create a ;
“Goodwill Cycle To Bring Health & Happiness To All
