factory was built to process plantation products into black
tea which was managed by the Dutch. Until the time of
approaching the independence of Indonesia, this tea
garden was taken over by the Japanese. Over time, the
management has changed until now it is held by PTPN 9, a

6. THE SECOND STAGE IS WITHERING
The tea leaves that were already in the basket
were then lifted using a kind of tool to the top
floor, namely the tea withering room.
In the room there is a kind of heater to wither the
tea leaves. The tea is placed on a metal baking
sheet. This process can take up to 12 hours for
the tea leaves to become wilted and soft, making
them easy to twist.
7. THE THIRD STAGE IS THE MILLING
PROCESS
After the withering process a few hours. The tea
leaves are fed into a pipe-like device from the top
floor and then automatically fed into a large
milling machine on the ground floor.
The grinding machine rotates horizontally
against the grinding table until the tea leaves are
crushed.
When finished, the selection of wet tea leaves is
carried out which is placed in a metal pan to be
fermented (oxidized) first in a special room. There
is a large fan in the room.
8. THE THIRD STAGE IS THE
FERMENTATION PROCESS
The fermentation process takes approximately one to two hours," said one
worker.
After completion of fermentation, the hot air drying process is carried out.
Drying is done using a large ancient hot steam boiler.
After that, the tea leaves are placed in a running machine for sorting. The
results of this sorting produce tea with the highest grade quality to the
lowest grade.
Then, the coffee that has been sorted based on grade quality is stored in a
tea storage area called a sloping crate made of wooden boxes. Wooden
media is one of the best places to store tea.
New tea is put into bags for export and sent to other regions.
