2. O! Mankind, come let us contemplate,
what is this miraculous substance that our
Lord with his ingenuity created.
WATER is its name.
Out of this substance of wonder
gushes the nectar of life
“If we were to write a cheque to nature to cover the cost of our
business activities, what would its value be?”
4. KAFMAR ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES LLP
• Partnership firm owned by Mr. Caesar Fernandes and Mrs. Dizzy
Fernandes, proprietors of Wooden Homes India.
• The name KAFMAR is conceived from the names of their
children.
• Aims & Objectives:
• Provide a clean environment for future generations.
• Give life to water bodies in Goa and be a part of
cleanliness drives in India (Swacchh Bharat
campaign).
5. OUR PRINCIPLE & BELIEF OF
CLEANING & RESTORATION
Give back Mother Nature more than
what she has lost due to neglect, to
the point where the final output is
better than the original situation
6. WHAT WE DO & HOW?

to the challenges found in water bodies left untouched over
decades.
• Move towards complimenting the natural environment, adding
to biodiversity and improving water quality.

bodies to care for the nature and ensure it is sustainable for
future generations.
• Involved in various activities with social responsibility.
• Work hand in hand with naturists, environmentalists and
professionals.
• Plan to take up projects on water, waste water management.
7. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
• Water bodies like lakes, rivers, creeks, ponds, streams help
circulate our planet’s water and provide important habitats to a
variety of aquatic plants (Flora), aquatic animals (Fauna) and
birds.
• Water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical
for socio-economic development, healthy ecosystems and for
human survival itself.
• Sadly, water bodies have always been a convenient place to
dispose waste.
• Towns and cities flout all rules of environment safety standards
8. HAZARDS OF NOT TREATING SEWAGE WATER
• Sewage water if not treated helps fast-growing weeds, reeds
and other grasses take over an entire water body very quickly
• Invasive Weeds like Salvinia and Water Hyacinth grow dense,
reduce space, cause oxygen depletion, pose a threat to the
native species.
• Weeds lead to flooding, as plastic and other garbage gets
entangled in the roots which prevents water flow.
Water Hyacinth Weed Salvinia Weed
9. …contd.
• Siltation affects aquatic life & causes flooding.
• Timely Interventions like de-weeding and de-silting are the
need of the hour.

31. YOU GET POSITIVE PUBLICITY
• Highlight and publish the activities of Corporate Social
Responsibilities of companies on the website
www.csrtimes.com, meant for targeted readers and also
Kafmar’s website www.kafmar.com .
• Advertise the activities by publishing in magazines,
newspapers, TV advs.
• Awareness about the cause and contributions made by the
corporates through CSR in & around the adopted area
through hoardings, drawing competition by children, other
activities etc.
32. CARBON OFFSETS & CSR
• Everyday actions consume energy and produce carbon
emissions, such as driving, flying and heating buildings
including pollution by industries.
• Carbon offsetting is used to compensate for these emissions
by funding an equivalent carbon dioxide saving elsewhere.
• Aligning your carbon offsets with your company’s mission or
overall corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
• Philanthropic responsibilities is a part of CSR.
• In this case engaging in projects to aid the environment,
revive and restore nature.
To quote Michael Beutler- Greenpeace activist and former Ford Motor Company senior financial analyst
Based in Benaulim, Kafmar is a partnership firm owned by Mr. Caesar Fernandes and Mrs. Dizzy Fernandes, proprietors of Wooden Homes India,
which was started with an aim to provide a clean environment for the future generation.
The name KAFMAR which is conceived from the names of their children talks of protecting the environment for future generation and will always remain special to them.
Kafmar is involved in various activities with social responsibility,
the first and main objective is giving life to water bodies in Goa and
on a whole to be a part of cleanliness drive in India (Swacch Bharat campaign).
This sewage water if not treated as per standard rules and checked for parameters like pH levels, nitrogen and phosphorous levels etc can help fast-growing weeds, reeds and other grasses to take over an entire water body very quickly . Invasive Weeds like Salvinia and Water Hyacinth can grow so dense thereby reducing space and causing oxygen depletion, that they pose a threat to the native species. They are also one of the reasons for flooding, as plastic and other garbage get entangled in the roots which prevents water flow.
.
Another issue is Siltation which is also a type of water pollution caused by land erosion of particulate material, like silt or clay. The silt is mostly from construction activities, deforestation and mining activities. The siltation chiefly affects the aquatic life and also causes flooding.
If timely intervention is not carried out, i.e. regular de-weeding, de-silting, the water body will die a natural death disrupting the whole aquatic ecosystem. De-weeding and de-silting will improve water flow and prevent flooding and help growth of fishes and other aquatic animals
Keeping all this in mind, Kafmar took the initiative of cleaning the creek and all other polluted water bodies and procured an amphibious machine which would mitigate all these problems.
The Europe-made amphibian machine, owned by Mr. Caesar Fernandes, partner Kafmar Environmental Services, works on diesel. It is fitted with different attachments like water filters, cutter, and reed rake. It is very light in weight and can go even deep onto the water. The Hydaulic Panolin oil is eco-friendly. Manoeuvrable and versatile, the machine is ideal for a wide range of lake, pond, canal and river maintenance projects including:
as part of its Clean India Mission,in May 2016, voluntarily and successfully demonstrated the cleaning of the Sernabatim Lake, Colva-Goa.
The lake was affected with Salvinia and lotus weeds and was not attended to for very long time.
In the past locals carried out fishing in the lake. It was also used by the village farmers to irrigate their crops.
Now that the lake has been cleaned and has fresh water flowing, the locals have started fishing once again
Following the Sernabatim Lake cleaning, in June 2016 Kafmar flagshipped its first project of de-weeding and cleaning of the St. Inez creek from Camara Bhat to Gaunekar Hospital (Taleigao Panchayat) and from Gaunekar Hospital to Directorate of Fire Services (City of Corporation Panaji).
The Creek had different kinds of invasive weeds growing like Water Hyacinths, Salvinia, other grass and aquatic plants mixed with garbage and a lot of untreated sewage water and raw sewage.
This was causing flooding in Panaji city and Cambra Bhat. So Kafmar recommended cleaning of the creek before the onset of monsoon.
The Panchayat and the CCP took immediate action and asked to start the de- weeding and removal of garbage on a “war footing” (emergency) basis.
CSR times aims to strive to retain the societal legitimacy of companies and corporate and increase their brand value by incorporating effective communication with various stakeholders. Keeping the day-to-day operations in focus,
CSR times build an impervious image of the companies with respect to their brand.
A carbon offset occurs when an individual or organization emits a given amount of GHG emissions but invests in measures that remove the equivalent volume of GHG emissions from the atmosphere or prevent the emissions from taking place at all.
Offsets are typically achieved through financial support of projects that reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in the short- or long-term.
Projects include renewable energy and environment related.
Philanthropic Responsibilities
If a company is able to meet all of its other responsibilities, it can begin meeting philanthropic responsibilities. Philanthropic responsibilities are responsibilities that go above and beyond what is simply required or what the company believes is right. They involve making an effort to benefit society -- for example, by donating services to community organizations, engaging in projects to aid the environment or donating money to charitable causes.
