The HR Planning Process involves having the right people in the correct positions to get the work done in order to meet organizational goals. HR planning is the process of managing an organization’s most valuable asset—its people—so there are not shortages or surpluses of employees in the organization (Youssef, 2012). Our text refers to this as strategic human resources management (SHRM). HR creates a job description and posts it at a chosen location. Some organizations post opening internally before seeking candidates outside the organization. Internal job postings are the most prominent way an organization informs its employees of available job openings (Youssef, 2012). Internal promotions can be good for morale; employee referrals are often used as a form of internal recruiting. HR planning also uses several ways to recruit externally. Openings are advertised in newspapers, television, and on the internet. Other times, HR recruits through agencies. I have got into companies through a few agencies in my career. I worked as a contractor for one year at my present organization before being hired as a permanent employee. HR attracts talent to the organization, the use other managers in the interview and evaluation process, to find the right fit for each position. HR plans a performance appraisal, training and development, and competitive benefits. HR makes sure that all hiring practices are legal. Recruitment, along with all HR functions, are regulated by the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Youssef, 2012). HR planning involves attracting the best talent and having growth opportunities such as training and development to retain talented employees. Resource: Youssef, C. (2012). Human resource management.
