PROCESS SKILLS
These essential TEKS should be taught on an ongoing basis throughout each nine
weeks. This is essential to a student’s preparation for college and career.
• Use the text’s structure or progression of ideas such as cause and effect or
chronology to locate and recall information
• Determine a text’s main idea and how those ideas are supported with details
• Draw inferences such as conclusions or generalizations and support them
with text evidence
• Support responses by referring to relevant aspects of text
• Analyze characters, including their traits, motivations, conflicts, point of
view, relationships, and changes they undergo
• Draw on experiences to bring meanings to words in context such as
interpreting multiple-meaning words and analogies

CCISD’s 8th Grade ELA Curriculum
aligns closely with the TEKS.
13. Possible Improvement – To continue to improve
student’s college and career readiness, the district
will need to continually improve its curriculum.
14. Summary
For continual improvement, curriculum writers in Clear Creek ISD will need
to routinely evaluate the curriculum to meet the needs of all of our
students.
The three curriculum standards are very similar and meet the Texas Essential
Knowledge and Skills. Furthermore, Clear Creek ISD’s 8th grade ELA
curriculum meets the standard’s set by all three curriculum standards.
Editor's Notes
For this presentation I am comparing the National Standards vs Texas Essential Knowledge Skills or TEKS and the College Readiness Standards
All three of these standards are based on balanced literacy standards that include Speaking, Reading, writing and listening
Writing for all three standards is based on skills sets that promote (read the slide)
Reading for all three sets of standards is based on a set of skills that promotes …
Listening is an important part of a balanced literacy program. All three sets of standards promote the application on (Read slide)
Speaking, whether formal or informal is promoted in all three sets of standards.
I compared the three sets of skills to CCISD’s 8th grade ELA curriculum. CCISD’s curriculum is aligned to the TEKS and National Standards. CCISD’s standards also have “Processing Skills” that, while found in the TEKS and National Standards, are not listed seperately.
Clear Creek ISD’s Curriculum aligns with the TEKS.
The College Readiness skills are a set of skills that all students should achieve before attending college.
CCISD’s curriculum helps promote college readiness skills.
While CCISD’s curriculum prepares our students for college and career readiness, students will constantly need to improve their technology skills to be able to compete in the workplace and find success in colloege.
