1. The Weinstein Company was founded by Bob and Harvey Weinstein in 2005 after the brothers left the
then-Disney-owned Miramax Films. It
would be one possible distribution company
as it has produced a film similar to ours called Hannibal Rising, which unlike ours is rated 18 but has a
similar storyline to ours with the main character going and killing the villains for causing the victim die
with a horror film theme.
Audience for Hannibal rising would, in my opinion, be early twenties to late thirties/early forties (as this is
the audience already there from the first three Hannibal Lecter films – alhough they weren’ all distributed
by this company)
Budget: $50,000,000 (estimated)
Box Office: $82,169,884
The Weinstein Company has also distributed thriller films, such as Awake which is similar to ours in the
sense that there's a conspiracy to kill a character, except the protagonist is the target in this film.
Audience for Awake would be mid teens to early thirties in my opinion, possibly Brad Pitt and Angelina
Jolie fans.
Budget: $8,600,000 (estimated)
Box Office: $32,685,679
2. United Artists is an American film studio that was founded in 1919 and
has distributed a large variety of films including supernatural/paranormal
(a genre our film would fall into.)
Distributed Carrie (1976) a rated 15 film, which has a similar storyline with
a girl being bullied by people at school and her parents, but the outcome
of this film is the girl goes mad instead of killing herself.
I think would have a similar audience, teens to early twenties more female
orientated, likely to be students.
Budget: $1,800,000 (estimated)
Gross: $33,800,000 (USA)
3. Distributed The Sixth Sense which is the same
genre, supernatural horror, and has the same
certificate, 15. I think the targeted audience age
would be the same as mine but I don’t think it
would be gender specific.
Budget: 40 million
Box office: $672,806,292
I has also distributed other supernatural horrors
e.g. Stay Alive (2006) and Dark Water (2005).
Buena Vista Distribution company is
a division of Walt Disney studios. It
distributes film and television
productions, and since 1953 has
distributed over 560.
