The Internet Of Things For Healthcare
The Internet of Things for Healthcare Background: Around 150 years ago, it was invented that
electricity can be transferred from one place to another thus making the connectivity between two
devices. Based on the concept, scientists were thinking, the concept might be useful for connecting
two devices, communicating each other. The result was the remarkable invention of Telegraph by
Samuel Moore and later Telephone by renowned and famous scientist Alexander Graham Bell.
Since then communication starts connecting the devices with no looking behind making the world

The Impact Of The Internet Of Things
Introduction
As the internet continues to expand, so does the number of smart gadgets, where intelligence is
embedded into these smart gadgets and devices. These devices are used across various domains
ranging from health and agriculture to transport and defense. As companies such as Google and
BMW continue their research into driverless cars and implement the Internet of Things into
vehicles, it is exciting to imagine a world where we can control everything from one device, but
how will these innovations be kept secure?
Gartner forecasts that one in five vehicles on the road will have some form of wireless connection
by 2020 ("Gartner Says By 2020", 2015). In the age of the Internet of Things, previously
unconnected devices are now being wirelessly linked to the Internet to be able to capture data and
automate systems. Cars are now becoming a major element of the Internet of Things. These
"connected cars" are beginning to revolutionize the industry.
In an article by Richard Kirk, Kirk links the Internet of Things to the Industrial Revolution. During
the Industrial Revolution society paid a huge price, in the name of progress. Was it worth it? Are we
entering a similar phase? Where does security fit into the Internet of Things?

We are all familiar with taking a wrong turn or missing a turn altogether while driving and have the
GPS navigation system holler at us about recalculating the distance and then suggesting an
alternative route. Might that have sounded a little fanciful in the 1980s when people were still
relying on printed maps to navigate?
Now, imagine scenarios where you get a mild electric shock from your wearable tech device every
time you use your credit card after crossing spending limit or your investment portfolio
automatically adjusting the debt–equity proportion in tune with your health reports or on crossing an
age–related milestone such as turning 50. They might have sounded straight out of Arthur Clark or

This helps reward safe drivers with customized pricing and lower premiums. Interestingly, many
drivers have also admitted to reviewing their driving style and vehicle maintenance on receiving
telematics reports from their insurers – a win–win situation for the insurer and the insured.
Health insurance companies are monitoring crucial parameters like blood glucose, blood pressure
levels, activity patterns, eating and exercise habits of customers via wearable tech devices that feed
insurer's database when connected to Internet. Health insurance premium pricing is dynamic, subject
to current health situation of the customer, which can bring down costs for both the insurer and the
customer. Such close monitoring helps insurers identify risky patients with chronic conditions and
volatile parameters and caution them to take preventive measures. Customers are also compelled to
make suitable alterations to avoid soaring premium costs.
Home insurance, including commercial real estate, is closely following the trend by installing
sensors in insured properties, which track structural condition of the property such as fire and smoke
hazards, plumbing and sewerage situation, energy efficiency, security, etc. Interestingly, this may not
lead to dynamic pricing of premium as in the case of auto and health insurance but benefits the

What Is The Internet Of Things?
What is the Internet of Things? Essentially the IoT is "the connection of any device with an on and
off switch to the Internet and/or to each other." [1] This can include many devices such as
refrigerators, printers and much more. The IoT is not limited to the devices but possibly the devices
components as well such as the engine of a semi–Truck. "The analyst firm Gartner says that by 2020
there will be over 26 billion connected devices."[1]. Based on statistics from Gartner and other firms
it is obvious to anyone that the Iot of things will only grow as the years go on. Many will see the
growing Iot to be a helpful and in many ways it will be because of the "things" it can do. A simple
example could be that a printer would recognize when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What are the dangers of the IoT and do the dangers out way the risks? With advancements in
technology all devices are becoming connected and these devices "speak" with each other. Through
this communication a large amount of data is created all based around an individual. This
information could range anywhere from the individuals daily schedule to their own medical
information. Fitbit is an excellent example of one's general health being monitored. "During the day,
[Fitbit] tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, and stairs climbed. Come nightfall, it measures
your sleep quality, helps you learn how to sleep better, and wakes you in the morning. The One™
motivates you to reach your goals by bringing greater fitness into your life – seamlessly, socially, 24
hours a day."[2] Now a scenario provided by SC magazine certainly helps to illustrate why being
monitored could be considered a benefit or an issue. A person using Fitbit has their fitness
information sold to a third party through their mobile phone carrier. Then based on the user's
location (provided by their phone) they begin to receive coupons for a weight loss shake because
based off of the Fitbit data that appears to be what the person is doing. Many will see such
invasiveness as a benefit but by others it will seem like an invasion of privacy. The worst issue is

A current trend in cyber security, known as the internet of things (IoT), covers the boundaries of the
net to include an extensive range of computing devices. Linking a wide array of IoT devices to the
Internet presents many challenges. Due to the gathered data being exposed to a widespread amount
of internet users, the main challenge is security. Most IoT devices on the market are low–tier and
have limited functionality, because of this, many standard security strategies cannot be implemented
to secure IoT systems. This leaves a door wide open for exploits and attacks both towards services
of IoT and the whole internet itself. Most of these security issues can be resolved by following a

Privacy concerns over the Internet of Things has given way to a severe security issue that has drawn
the attention of distinguished tech corporations and government agencies worldwide. The hacking of
pace makers, smart refrigerators, baby monitors, connected thermostats, mobile device cameras and
car radios are foreshadowing a security nightmare caused by the rapid spread of IoT. The large
amount of new connected devices being introduced to the global internet and local will make way
for malicious attackers with a ridiculous amount of choices and opportunities to perform their work,
mainly because a large number of them have security vulnerabilities. The more essential shift in
protection will come from the reality that IoT will definitely become ingrained in our lives. The
issue will no longer be confined to the safety of sensitive data and property. Our health and even our
lives can emerge as the target of an IoT attack. There are a large number of reasons for our current
state of uncertainty in IoT. A lot of it has to do with large and small corporations being too money
hungry, wherein each company is rapidly searching for the next big revolutionary connected device
before competition does. Unfortunately, this way of thinking results in functionality becoming the
main concern and the devices security is put on the back burner.

Is The Internet A Good Thing?
Is the Growth in the use of Internet a Good or Bad Thing? Can we live without the internet?
The Internet has significantly transformed the world we live in today. The question on whether or
not the internet is good continues to raise a heated debate. Whereas some claim that the growth in
internet use is for the better of the society, others claim it is for the worse. However, it has turned the
world into a global village. Bill Gates once said that "The internet is becoming the town square for
the global village of tomorrow." If the world lacks a digital future, the issue is what the speaker will
have to sacrifice for them to be heard in this 'digital town square.' The controversy arises when one
looks at the quote from the language lens and this important particularly for the young generation.
Nevertheless, it is evident that bridging the digital divide will promote exchanges and ultimately
empower individuals and therefore the growth in internet use is a good thing.
Wendy Lesser, in her essay, The Conversion, narrates how she has developed the love for the web
and how it has enabled her to keep in touch with friends and relatives. It is through the internet that

We are all in a new era where computing knowledge is playing a significant role and people are
naming it as internet of things (IOT). Even we can call it has Internet of things, Internet of
everything because it rising in a huge scale and its potential is showing up. Internet of things is
being designed in a more unique way because here the machine communicate and interact with each
other and also with the external surroundings. IOT is made of up of many interesting and intelligent
tools which are brought together and also made them interact with each other. Because of all these
processes the information have been built up and which are also put together to work their best and
also build a knowledge and switch things to become easier.
The Internet of Things (IOT) states to exclusively recognizable substances and their practical images
in an Internet–like construction. The term internet of things was projected by Kevin Ashton in 1999.
It was first widespread at MIT and correlated marketplace analysis publications. During initial days,
one of the prerequisite for internet of things was considered as Radio frequency identification
(RFID). The concept Internet of things mainly explains that internet now is not only used for the
purpose of communicating with people but also the required devices can electronically interconnect
with each other around the world. Now as an outcome to all of these people can share the data with
each other and also reuse them if required and used for

Executive Summary Technology is quickly changing the way we interact with the world around us.
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to the ability of physical objects to connect to the
Internet and to send and receive data. Introduction The Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT concept is
difficult to define precisely. IoT can be define as the network of physical objects are embedded with
electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity that enables these items to gather and
exchange data. Another definition for IoT is interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital
machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers and the ability to
transfer data over a network without requiring human–to–human or human–to–computer interaction
in order to complete a system. In the Internet of Things, one things can be insulin pump that has the
ability to send a record of person glucose levels. It also can be other natural or manmade item that
can be assigned an IP address and has the ability to exchange data over a network or the Internet.
Many of IoT practical technology applications can be found in industries such as precision
agriculture, building management, healthcare, energy and transportation. Some examples of IoT are
wearables, a smart home, medication dispensing service, embedded data collector, and a smart waste
and recycling system In this report, I will focus on IoT devices that are sold to or used by
consumers. Some of these devices

Retail
Applications within the retails sector offer a major opportunity for business to reduce cost and
increase profit. The implementation of the internet of things will enable retailers to track their
inventory in real time. With products on shelves equipped with technologies such RFID TAGS and
smart shelves would be equipped with sensors, retailers would be able to track the movement of
products and quickly replace out of stock items. (Thomas W. Gruen, 2007)
Business opportunity: For businesses this offers a major cost saving opportunity. An estimated 3.9%
of sales losses each year are accounted for by shelves going empty of products in demands. With the
use of sensors within retail, this would not happen due to the

Advantages And Challenges Of Internet Of Things
INTRODUCTION:
The term Internet of Things was proposed by Kevin Ashton in 1999, it is a concept originally
introduced by MIT. In simple words Internet of Things is about physical items talking to each other.
Internet of things (IOT) can be defined as a computing concept where every–day physical objects
are connected to the Internet and are able to identify themselves to other devices. It is an integrated
relationship between generic objects and the virtual world in which both can communicate and
exchange data and information. It keeps the objects interconnected, which can be identified by some
assigned codes, names, locations, shapes or addresses. Internet of things describes a world where
just about anything can be connected or communicated in an intelligent fashion. Or we can say that
with IOT, the physical world is changing into a big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the above mentioned advantages will take the business world to a completely different level.
CHALLENGES FOR THE MANAGEMENT
Internet of Things brings a lot of complexity with itself. Businesses encounter multiple of barriers to
adoption. Below are certain challenges which businesses face while implementing IOT.
Complexity, Confusion and Integration Issues: Internet of things involves large number of APIs,
numerous protocols and multiple platforms making the procedures complexed and confusing. The
confusion around evolving standards is almost sure to slow adoption. Slower adoption and
unanticipated development resource requirements will likely slip schedules and slow time to
revenues, which will require additional funding for IOT projects and longer runways for startups.
This is the biggest challenge faced by businesses.
Trust and privacy: As IOT involves remote sensors, there is heightened sensitivity to controlling
access and ownership of data. Compliance is the major challenge for businesses, Social and political
concerns in this area also hinder IOT

What is IoT? The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded
with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect
and exchange data. IoT allows objects to be sensed and controlled remotely across existing network
infrastructure, creating opportunities for more direct integration between the physical world and
computer–based systems, and resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit.
3Rishab 1. 4. "Things," in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart
monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, electric clams in coastal waters,
automobiles with built–in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen
monitoring or field operation devices that assist fire–fighters in search and rescue operations. These
devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously
flow the data between other devices. 4Rishab 2. 5. The concept of the Internet of Things first
became popular in 1999, through the Auto–ID Center at MIT and related market–analysis
publications. R Radio–frequency identification (RFID) was seen as a prerequisite for the IoT at that
point. If all objects and people in daily life were equipped with identifiers, computers could manage
and inventory them. Besides using RFID, the tagging of things may be achieved through such
technologies as near field communication,

What is Internet of Things?
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of the physical objects containing embedded systems
which connects and communicate with each other internally or externally through sensors.
According to David Ahrens, it is the "network of interconnected sensor–equipped electronic devices
that collect data, communicate with each other, and can be monitored or controlled remotely over
the Internet" (Ahrens, 2014). The main goal of its development is to connect the physical world and
the environment to the Internet or wireless networks which would allow making objects, machines
and work environments interactive without any human intervention which would result in improved
efficiency and economic benefits. The word "Things" in IOT includes biochip transponders, electric
clams, automobiles, electronic appliances etc. These devices collect the data individually with the
existing technology and then share the data autonomously between each other through the internet
protocol. It includes different technology infrastructure, devices and services such as the cloud,
computing, data analytics and mobile communications. It is more about the disruptive business
models than technology. It is a trend through which the physical world is becoming a big

The Internet of Things
What is the Internet of Things?
The internet of things (IoT) is the growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address that
allow them to connect to the Internet. It is also considered as the communication that occurs
between these objects and other Internet–enabled devices and systems. The types of interactions this
network can have are people–people, people–machines, and machines–machines (M2M). The IoT
broadens the scope of devices that can connect to the Internet from traditional devices, like laptops
and computers, to a diverse range of devices that use embedded technology to communicate and
interact with the external environment through the Internet. The number of devices that are
connected to the IoT is exploding, with the current number being around 12 billion devices
worldwide. Several researchers estimate that there will be 26 times more connected things than
people by 2020. There are a number of explanations as to why this is happening. One reason is the
huge increase in address space that IPV6 offers. The expansion was so large that every atom on the
earth could be assigned an address, and there would still be enough addresses for another one
hundred earths. Another reason is that cloud–based applications are allowing the use of leveraged
data by taking all of the information from the devices, interpreting it, and transmitting the
information. The power of computing by using the

Technology And The Internet Of Things
The Internet of Things, or as many people like to call it IoT, is a wide growing industry with
technology that is advancing each and every day. Physical objects are becoming mapped with
technology that us humans will eventually come in contact with and interact over the internet. The
Information Technology world feeds off of this industry because the internet is storing this data that
we use, and the IT industry just comprehends it. With more physical objects being mapped in the
real world, the IT industry will need more people to help control all of the systems and data that is
being used. An example of this is if a company lacked a certain product then that problem would be
reported to the company and further deliveries would be conducted (Weber, Pg. 23) This fast
growing industry is remarkable, and the developments of the legal, social, ethical, and security, can
be just as astounding.
Background. The idea of the Internet of Things began in the early 1990's and is said to be brought
up by Mark Weiser, a computer scientist from the University of Michigan (Mattern, 2010). Things
that are not recognized as much as part of the Internet of Things, can be as simple as a barcode, an
NFC tag, or a QR code which is classified as an RFID tag (Radio–Frequency Identification).
Examples such as these are what is making the world around us a technological advancement. IP
addresses are what the RFID tags are identified with, and since there are more technologies then

"The ability to monitor factors such as temperature setting, vibration, and pressure helps ensure
quality output, potentially leading to greater customer satisfaction and continued repeat business"
(Frenzel, 2012).
The Internet of Things has many advantages to businesses, society, individuals and consumers but
along with these advantages there are also disadvantages and problems that arise. One big challenge
faced by the Internet of Things industry is compatibility, meaning that not all devices can talk to
each other as there is no single universal coding language or protocol. Another major issue that has
arisen from the industry is privacy concerns.

ABSTRACT
Context
The forecasts point that then number of Internet of Things devices by 2020 will be around 25
billion, which is an exponential growth compared to 5 billion devices connected at this moment,
while these systems are still considered weak on security measures. The reasons why security is not
strong enough rely on their poor management design and services offered and other known security
flaws.
Aim
Investigate the weaknesses of their configurations related to the traffic generated by Internet of
Things devices, to approach an improvement of those configurations, giving a list of possible attacks
and countermeasures. The study is to show when security measures can be applied to these devices
and how to apply them.
Method
In a test environment network traffic will be analysed while a number of attacks will be used to
determine the vulnerability if IoT devices. With these results a list of countermeasures will be
proposed and applied when possible, to perform a second test. The solutions applied will be
considered successful if devices are no longer vulnerable to the attacks. The work method is
structured in five areas: credentials, encryption, services, management and physical security.
Results
It is expected to show how devices can be exploited. The presumption is that after applying the
countermeasures proposed

INTERNET OF THINGS Introduction Imagine a world that is related to each device in the home,
workplace and car. A world in which the lights are switched off automatically when the car
approaches the runway, and coffee starts brewing when the alarm goes off this morning and the door
opens automatically when approached the family member, but it It is a believer when a stranger
arrives on the front step. This is the kind of world the Internet of Things can create. Currently, the
"Internet of things" is not the Internet of the second – it is a network connected to the Internet that
are used every day to search on Google, and download images and communicate with friends
devices. It is a network of products that are connected to the Internet, and therefore have their own
IP address and can communicate with each other to automate simple tasks. Internet of Things
(technology operations) is in its infancy. It is not fully developed and fragmented. Luis Galvez,
director of Internet of the Federation of things, a group dedicated to offering companies together to
accelerate the development of operating techniques, compares the current state of technology and
the birth of the operations of the computer, indicating that businesses and consumers are learning
what products can connect to the Internet, and now is the time to figure out what to do done with

of Things (IoT) as the network of physical objects or things embedded with electronics, software,
sensors, and network connectivity, which enables these objects to collect and exchange data. The
Internet of Things is detonating. It comprises of billions of smart devices from microscopic chips to
colossal machines that use wireless technology to talk to each other and to us. Talking to us? Yes,
these devices are so smart that it interprets human behaviors and functions according to it. Imagine
your air conditioner sets the temperature according to your comfortable temperature levels! IoT will
soon create a network by connecting our homes, major apparatuses and even cities to Internet. What
are the elements of IoT? There are three IoT elements which enables seamless functioning: a)
Hardware – made up of sensors, actuators and embedded communication hardware b) Middleware –

Technology And The Internet Of Things
The world of computers is continuously shrinking at a rapid rate. Coincidentally, computing
systems, now more than ever are finding themselves integrated into different aspects of society.
From lightbulbs to coffee makers, integrated computing systems are creating a dynamic network of
ubiquitous devices. "The internet of things" is the connection and intercommunication of such
ubiquitous computing devices in the physical world through the internet. Devices in this network
spontaneously retrieve and contribute information with one another to improve the quality of life for
the user. Varying greatly from virtual reality, "the internet of things" is a passive augmentation of the
human experience rather than a complete removal from it. Despite the seemingly non–intrusive and
benign effects to its users, "the internet of things" has been met with immense criticism. Connected
devices currently active in "the internet of things" have challenged society's current view of privacy,
have created the potential for a new source of dangerous electronic waste, and put people in physical
harm. While the movement to ubiquitous computing through "the internet of things" presents the
opportunity to advance society and improve the quality of life, ethical, safety, and environmental
concerns should first be addressed before accepting implementation of this controversial system.

The Security Of The Internet Of Things
Introduction
The topic we chose to analyze in this research paper is information systems security. More
specifically, we examined the security of the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things is an ever–
growing avenue of technology that is constantly improving in connectivity and user–friendly
interactions. IoT is defined by Forbes writer Jacob Morgan (2014) as "the concept of basically
connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). This
[including] ... cell phones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, ... and almost
anything else you can think of". In other words, IoT is the glue that holds the world of technology
together. Within this field we have developed a compelling thesis question. Its answer could help
propel this market into the future: What can be done to improve the security of the Internet of
Things in the home? This question is pivotal as the home is one of the most cherished yet vulnerable
possessions a person has. The IoT of any given home may contain harmless things, such as grocery
lists, family photos, or calendar events, but it can also contain sensitive data that, if stolen by a
hacker, could tear a household apart. This includes social security numbers, credit card numbers, and
bank account information. Because this information is so important and in need of protection, the
greatest possible effort must be put forward to protect it. It is virtually impossible to completely
prevent hacking in all

The Internet Of Things ( Iot )
The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication
connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other
using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a
network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple
electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will
eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to
connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of
their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making
tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014).
Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the
development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol
version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the
number of IP addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate
over the vast network (Pye, 2014).
Advancements in the development of smart household automated networks and use of Enterprise
Application Services (EAS) have contributed to the preparation of smaller networks to be linked to
the IoT when

you to where you need to go, or it even tells you miscellaneous things such as which place to go to
get the best pumpkin spice latte. The Internet of things has significantly impacted everyday lives and
continues to develop throughout generations. It refers to pertinent things such as the ever–growing
networks of everyday physical objects, and other internet–enabled systems and devices which
process and analyze large and fast–moving data set along each other. To sum it up, the internet of
things is a fast growing network of materials where everything is synced and can collect as well as
exchange data using sensors that are embedded in devices. Although individuals believe that the
Internet of Things (IoT) consequently, will strip every one of privacy and security, the internet of
things ought to be utilized in society as it positively transforms the way you live and relate to our
environment to make it more productive and useful for us.
The concept of the internet of things abbreviated as IoT was introduced as early as the late 90's by
Kevin Ashton, the Executive Director of Auto–ID Labs and a professor at Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. Now, "the Internet of things is already a disruptive technology capable of determining
fundamental changes that are happening in everyday life, and it is considered the fourth industrial
revolution." (Hucanu) The Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet Of Things?
The Internet of Things The Internet has become one of the most powerful creations in modern day
history. Over the past decade the Internet has continued to have a major impact on our society. It has
allowed us to communicate and share information effectively and immediately. The availability of
the Internet has rapidly increased and almost every device has Wi–Fi capabilities. As technology
advances, the term to "be connected" is no longer only associated with computers, tablets and
smartphones. It has now transformed into the ability to connect and communicate with just about
anything or anyone. This new era of technology is known as the Internet of Things (IoT).
Conversations about IoT are taking place around the world and people are trying to understand the
impact it will have on their lives. Before people can fully understand the impact, they must educate
themselves on what IoT is, how it works, and the potential opportunities and challenges that are
associated with it.
The Internet of Things can be defined as a physical object that is embedded with an IP address that
allows connection to the Internet and other Internet–enabled devices. Devices will no longer be
beneficial to just people, but it will benefit millions of surrounding devices and objects. This has
become such a significant concept because of a device ability to develop into something greater than
the device itself. IoT has expanded the typical internet experience beyond traditional devices and has
allowed

The Internet of Things (IOT)
The Internet of Things (IOT) is said to be the next new revolution after the mobile devices. IOT is
simply a technology that allows the interconnection of billions of devices to each other so as to
provide more intuitive insights. This works to help both individuals and companies revolutionize
their data and make life better. According to Mayer–Schönberger & Cukier, (2013), "the Internet of
Things envisions a self–configuring and adaptive complex system made out of networks of sensors
and smart objects." IOT has recently become a household name. As a matter of fact, as of 2015, IOT
technology has started to be rolled out.
For instance the smart watches being rolled out be apple and other technology companies represent
IOT. Based on Manyika et al., (2011), " IOT covers all types of sensors, communication protocols,
computational tools, techniques, devices, processors, embedded systems, data warehousing, big
data, cloud computing, server farms, grid computing etc." We can thus conclude that IOT is the most
disruptive technology since the internet. It is expected that by the end of 2020, billions of objects
will be connected to the internet through IOT.
There are several themes about IOT that are likely to shape businesses by the years 2020, the first
one is the presence of intelligent systems. This includes machine to machine automation such as
connected cars which are likely to be a big breakthrough in the near future. We also have platform to

Executive Summary
The Internet of Things (IoT) is known for wearable gadgets such as the new Apple watch or fitness
wearables such as Fitbit. Information is gathered from these devices and displayed on users'
computers and smartphones, to let consumers track such things as fitness. There are devices for the
medical field to help patients track vital signs and have those transmitted to their doctors back at
their offices. Rivera & Goasduff (2014) suggest the Internet of Things (IoT) is forecast to reach 26
billion installed units by 2020, up from 0.9 billion just five years ago, and will impact the
information available to supply chain leaders and how the supply chain operates.

Tractor Trailer
Westerman (2014) A service provided by Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) installs sensors in
their diesel engines to record performance data and relay it to their customer service center where a
team of professionals look at the data to diagnose the issue. If a driver has a warning light go on, the
customer service center contacts the driver to let them know if the issue is something to worry
about. If there is an immediate need for service the customer service center lets the driver know
where the nearest garage is located, lets him/her know that the parts, if needed, are on their way. The
driver, when they arrive, can pull directly into a repair bay so they can get back on the road as
quickly as possible. DTNA sells this service with their truck brands. For drivers it is a sigh of relief
to know that their tractor trailer is being monitored whenever it is on the road, to catch an issue
before it becomes more serious.
This can be beneficial for Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., in the following ways. First this reduces
overall expenses on transportation by continually monitoring a trucks engine. Issues will be caught
before they become serious issues which are generally more expensive. Second, by catching issues
with a vehicle and having them maintained on a regular basis will keep down time to a minimum so
they can be left on the road making the company more money. Third, with vehicles in optimal

additional functionality to the already user–friendly smartphone. To provide these useful services,
Google Now needs to be granted permission to access information from the user's Google account

only to provide Google Now services, but also is combined with information from other users in
mass data analyzes to improve services and to intelligently push advertising. However, Google's use
of private information contradicts what users feel is an appropriate practice. A Carnegie Mellon
University study suggests that an overwhelming majority of people are uncomfortable with user

able to outweigh compromised privacy and a lack of transparency from the requesting company
about what happens to the user's data. In other words, services requiring user data must have

The Internet Is An Amazing Thing
Introduction
The Internet is an amazing thing. Decentralized and global, it is used on a massive scale daily and
has transformed the world. Arising from a group of computer networks that rose up from around
1960–1990, it has gone from accounting for a small fraction of global communications to well over
90% of them in a matter of decades. It has had an unspeakable impact on humanity, Changing
dramatically business and culture, among other things. The Internet as we know it today is the
product of several computer networks that were created from around 1960–1990. Most notably, the
ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), which was created by ARPA (Now
DARPA), the research agency of the United States Department of Defense. The ARPANET was the
first computer network to use the TCP/IP protocol, the backbone of the modern Internet. The effect
that the Internet has had on business has been immense. More and more, people are starting to do
things online that they traditionally did at a physical building. Banking, shopping, trading, and
watching movies. Many are even predicting that soon traditional brick and mortar stores will be a
thing of the past. The cultural impact has also been huge. Via the Internet, news and information can
spread all over the world in a matter of hours. This has changed the way that people get news and
information, as well as lead to the rise of an Internet culture.

Internet of Things (IoT)
Definition
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded with
electronics, software, sensors, and connectivity that enable the objects to achieve greater value and
service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator, and/or other connected devices. Each
thing is uniquely identifiable through its embedded computing system but is able to interoperate
within the existing Internet infrastructure. –WIKIPEDIA

The Impact Of The Internet Of Things
Introduction
A decade ago there weren't many people who had objects that were able to connect to the internet
and if you were an early adopter of smart phone technology you probably had one or maybe two
objects that had the ability to connect to the internet. But today almost every person in the world has
more than one object that connects to the internet. Anything from smartphones, smart TVs, Cars,
Game systems and even refrigerators are now able to connect to the internet. It estimated by 2020
there will be 50 billion objects connected to the internet. This is the Internet of Things. A network of
internet connected objects that are able to collect and exchange data using embedded sensors
(businessinsider). In this paper I will discuss how the Internet of Things creates many improvements
to the world, increasing our convenience, health and safety, while at the same time improving
energy efficiency and comfort (ercim).
The Internet of Things The internet of things is changing a lot about the world we live in, from the
way we drive to how we make purchases and even how we get energy for our homes. Sensors and

The Evolution Of The Internet Of Things
Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) shall be able to incorporate transparently and seamlessly a
large number of different and heterogeneous end systems, while providing open access to selected
subsets of data for the development of a plethora of digital services. Building a general architecture
for the IoT is hence a very complex task, mainly because of the extremely large variety of devices,
link layer technologies, and services that may be involved in such a system. As a result, huge
volumes of data are being generated, and that data is being processed into useful actions that can
"command and control" things to make our lives much easier and safer–and to reduce our impact on
the environment. In this paper we will discuss the vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond
machine–to– machine (M2M) communications and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and
applications. The interconnection of these embedded devices (including smart objects), is expected
to usher in automation in nearly all fields, while also enabling advanced applications like a smart
grid, and expanding to areas such as smart cities. "Things", in the IoT sense, can refer to
a wide variety of devices such as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals,
cameras streaming live feeds of wild animals in coastal waters, automobiles with built–in sensors,
DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen monitoring, or field operation devices that
assist firefighters in search and rescue operations. An urban IoT, indeed, may bring a number of
benefits in the management and optimization of traditional public services, such as transport and
parking, lighting, surveillance and maintenance of public areas, preservation of cultural heritage,
garbage collection, celebrity of hospitals, and school. IoT is also expected to generate large amounts
of data from diverse locations, with the consequent necessity for quick aggregation of the data, and
an increase in the need to index, store, and process such data more effectively.

The Time Of The Internet Of Things
To stay connected from any time and any where to any one, any thing and all the things in between
is the sole job of the internet of things (IoT). The internet plays an important role in the modern
lifestyle of almost all people around the world. From daily routine home chores to industrial means,
everything is dependent on the internet either directly or indirectly in order to have network
connectivity to each other. The Internet of things came to define several technologies that enable the
use of wireless networks and smart sensors to communicate. The Internet of things allows things to
be sensed and controlled remotely in wireless network infrastructure (Watts, & Porter, 1997).
The early working system in wireless communication started in 1832 by Baron Schilling in Russia,
who created electromagnetic telegraph using electrical signals. In 1833, Carl Friedrich Gauss and
Wilhelm Weber created a new code, which could communicate over 1200 meter distance in
Göttingen, Germany. Shortly after, in 1835 Joseph Henry and Edward Davy reshaped electrical relay
by using a magnetic coil that amplified currents. As a result, they could send their electrical signal to
far longer distances. 1926 was a year for yet another revolution in the wireless world. Nikola Tesla,
an electrical engineer and futurist, invented wireless power transfer (WPT). Wireless power transfer
was used to transmit signals to long distances by using electromagnetic fields in a relative field to
transmit the power

Internet Of Things Essay
The Internet of Things, or the IoT is envisioned as a ubiquitous society wherein people and devices
(referred to as "Things") are connected in a riveting networked computing environment viz. Internet
, with the connected "Things" providing utility to people/enterprises through various intelligent
commercial and social services. Large chunks of data is generated for devices to communicate with
each other to facilitate the Internet Of Things. Data transfer over the Internet is usually a power
hungry process. With ever growing necessity of utilizing energy in a more efficient way it is not
only important to communicate data at a faster rate but also do so in a very low energy consuming
method. This report employs one such method which utilizes the fact that most of the data
communicated by the IoT devices processes and services is irregular and generally concentrated
over a short duration of time. This method focuses on adapting the duty cycle of these
processes/devices so that they are asleep during large periods of inactivity. The report also
investigates the Low power consumption system thus obtained as a standalone system running on
the energy provided by a Energy Harvestor(PV CELL) .Cost considerations limit the size of the
energy harvestor used which affects the power provided by it ,thus the system is so designed such
that the energy harvestor is able to run the system during sleep while energy storing elements power
the system during its active cycle. This means

  • 2. The Impact Of The Internet Of Things Introduction As the internet continues to expand, so does the number of smart gadgets, where intelligence is embedded into these smart gadgets and devices. These devices are used across various domains ranging from health and agriculture to transport and defense. As companies such as Google and BMW continue their research into driverless cars and implement the Internet of Things into vehicles, it is exciting to imagine a world where we can control everything from one device, but how will these innovations be kept secure? Gartner forecasts that one in five vehicles on the road will have some form of wireless connection by 2020 ("Gartner Says By 2020", 2015). In the age of the Internet of Things, previously unconnected devices are now being wirelessly linked to the Internet to be able to capture data and automate systems. Cars are now becoming a major element of the Internet of Things. These "connected cars" are beginning to revolutionize the industry. In an article by Richard Kirk, Kirk links the Internet of Things to the Industrial Revolution. During the Industrial Revolution society paid a huge price, in the name of progress. Was it worth it? Are we entering a similar phase? Where does security fit into the Internet of Things? Topic Description Internet of Things The Internet of Things is a simple concept. Simply put, the Internet of Things involves "connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet" (Morgan, 2017). This includes anything and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Is Internet Of Things? We are all familiar with taking a wrong turn or missing a turn altogether while driving and have the GPS navigation system holler at us about recalculating the distance and then suggesting an alternative route. Might that have sounded a little fanciful in the 1980s when people were still relying on printed maps to navigate? Now, imagine scenarios where you get a mild electric shock from your wearable tech device every time you use your credit card after crossing spending limit or your investment portfolio automatically adjusting the debt–equity proportion in tune with your health reports or on crossing an age–related milestone such as turning 50. They might have sounded straight out of Arthur Clark or Asimov's science fiction novels two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps reward safe drivers with customized pricing and lower premiums. Interestingly, many drivers have also admitted to reviewing their driving style and vehicle maintenance on receiving telematics reports from their insurers – a win–win situation for the insurer and the insured. Health insurance companies are monitoring crucial parameters like blood glucose, blood pressure levels, activity patterns, eating and exercise habits of customers via wearable tech devices that feed insurer's database when connected to Internet. Health insurance premium pricing is dynamic, subject to current health situation of the customer, which can bring down costs for both the insurer and the customer. Such close monitoring helps insurers identify risky patients with chronic conditions and volatile parameters and caution them to take preventive measures. Customers are also compelled to make suitable alterations to avoid soaring premium costs. Home insurance, including commercial real estate, is closely following the trend by installing sensors in insured properties, which track structural condition of the property such as fire and smoke hazards, plumbing and sewerage situation, energy efficiency, security, etc. Interestingly, this may not lead to dynamic pricing of premium as in the case of auto and health insurance but benefits the ... • 5. What Is The Internet Of Things? What is the Internet of Things? Essentially the IoT is "the connection of any device with an on and off switch to the Internet and/or to each other." [1] This can include many devices such as refrigerators, printers and much more. The IoT is not limited to the devices but possibly the devices components as well such as the engine of a semi–Truck. "The analyst firm Gartner says that by 2020 there will be over 26 billion connected devices."[1]. Based on statistics from Gartner and other firms it is obvious to anyone that the Iot of things will only grow as the years go on. Many will see the growing Iot to be a helpful and in many ways it will be because of the "things" it can do. A simple example could be that a printer would recognize when ... With advancements in technology all devices are becoming connected and these devices "speak" with each other. Through this communication a large amount of data is created all based around an individual. This information could range anywhere from the individuals daily schedule to their own medical information. Fitbit is an excellent example of one's general health being monitored. "During the day, [Fitbit] tracks your steps, distance, calories burned, and stairs climbed. Come nightfall, it measures your sleep quality, helps you learn how to sleep better, and wakes you in the morning. The One™ motivates you to reach your goals by bringing greater fitness into your life – seamlessly, socially, 24 hours a day."[2] Now a scenario provided by SC magazine certainly helps to illustrate why being monitored could be considered a benefit or an issue. A person using Fitbit has their fitness information sold to a third party through their mobile phone carrier. Then based on the user's location (provided by their phone) they begin to receive coupons for a weight loss shake because based off of the Fitbit data that appears to be what the person is doing. Many will see such invasiveness as a benefit but by others it will seem like an invasion of privacy. The worst issue is someone hacking the data and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Is The Internet A Good Thing? Is the Growth in the use of Internet a Good or Bad Thing? Can we live without the internet? The Internet has significantly transformed the world we live in today. The question on whether or not the internet is good continues to raise a heated debate. Whereas some claim that the growth in internet use is for the better of the society, others claim it is for the worse. However, it has turned the world into a global village. Bill Gates once said that "The internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow." If the world lacks a digital future, the issue is what the speaker will have to sacrifice for them to be heard in this 'digital town square.' The controversy arises when one looks at the quote from the language lens and this important particularly for the young generation. Nevertheless, it is evident that bridging the digital divide will promote exchanges and ultimately empower individuals and therefore the growth in internet use is a good thing. Wendy Lesser, in her essay, The Conversion, narrates how she has developed the love for the web and how it has enabled her to keep in touch with friends and relatives. It is through the internet that we get to assess valuable resources like Wendy's work. The internet of things (IoT) is the growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address that allow them to connect to the Internet. It is also considered as the communication that occurs between these objects and other Internet–enabled devices and systems. The types of interactions this network can have are people–people, people–machines, and machines–machines (M2M). The IoT broadens the scope of devices that can connect to the Internet from traditional devices, like laptops and computers, to a diverse range of devices that use embedded technology to communicate and interact with the external environment through the Internet. The number of devices that are connected to the IoT is exploding, with the current number being around 12 billion devices worldwide. Several researchers estimate that there will be 26 times more connected things than people by 2020. There are a number of explanations as to why this is happening. One reason is the huge increase in address space that IPV6 offers. The expansion was so large that every atom on the earth could be assigned an address, and there would still be enough addresses for another one hundred earths. Another reason is that cloud–based applications are allowing the use of leveraged data by taking all of the information from the devices, interpreting it, and transmitting the information. • 17. Technology And The Internet Of Things The Internet of Things, or as many people like to call it IoT, is a wide growing industry with technology that is advancing each and every day. Physical objects are becoming mapped with technology that us humans will eventually come in contact with and interact over the internet. The Information Technology world feeds off of this industry because the internet is storing this data that we use, and the IT industry just comprehends it. With more physical objects being mapped in the real world, the IT industry will need more people to help control all of the systems and data that is being used. An example of this is if a company lacked a certain product then that problem would be reported to the company and further deliveries would be conducted (Weber, Pg. 23) This fast growing industry is remarkable, and the developments of the legal, social, ethical, and security, can be just as astounding. Background. The idea of the Internet of Things began in the early 1990's and is said to be brought up by Mark Weiser, a computer scientist from the University of Michigan (Mattern, 2010). Things that are not recognized as much as part of the Internet of Things, can be as simple as a barcode, an NFC tag, or a QR code which is classified as an RFID tag (Radio–Frequency Identification). • 24. The Security Of The Internet Of Things Introduction The topic we chose to analyze in this research paper is information systems security. More specifically, we examined the security of the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things is an ever– growing avenue of technology that is constantly improving in connectivity and user–friendly interactions. IoT is defined by Forbes writer Jacob Morgan (2014) as "the concept of basically connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). This [including] ... cell phones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, ... and almost anything else you can think of". In other words, IoT is the glue that holds the world of technology together. Within this field we have developed a compelling thesis question. Its answer could help propel this market into the future: What can be done to improve the security of the Internet of Things in the home? This question is pivotal as the home is one of the most cherished yet vulnerable possessions a person has. The IoT of any given home may contain harmless things, such as grocery lists, family photos, or calendar events, but it can also contain sensitive data that, if stolen by a hacker, could tear a household apart. This includes social security numbers, credit card numbers, and bank account information. Because this information is so important and in need of protection, the greatest possible effort must be put forward to protect it. It is virtually impossible to completely prevent hacking in all ... • 25. The Internet Of Things ( Iot ) The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014). Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the number of IP addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate over the vast network (Pye, 2014). Advancements in the development of smart household automated networks and use of Enterprise Application Services (EAS) have contributed to the preparation of smaller networks to be linked to the IoT when ... • 36. The Evolution Of The Internet Of Things Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) shall be able to incorporate transparently and seamlessly a large number of different and heterogeneous end systems, while providing open access to selected subsets of data for the development of a plethora of digital services. Building a general architecture for the IoT is hence a very complex task, mainly because of the extremely large variety of devices, link layer technologies, and services that may be involved in such a system. As a result, huge volumes of data are being generated, and that data is being processed into useful actions that can "command and control" things to make our lives much easier and safer–and to reduce our impact on the environment. In this paper we will discuss the vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that goes beyond machine–to– machine (M2M) communications and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications. The interconnection of these embedded devices (including smart objects), is expected to usher in automation in nearly all fields, while also enabling advanced applications like a smart grid, and expanding to areas such as smart cities. "Things", in the IoT sense, can refer to a wide variety of devices such as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm animals, cameras streaming live feeds of wild animals in coastal waters, automobiles with built–in sensors, DNA analysis devices for environmental/food/pathogen monitoring, or field operation devices that assist firefighters in search and rescue operations. An urban IoT, indeed, may bring a number of benefits in the management and optimization of traditional public services, such as transport and parking, lighting, surveillance and maintenance of public areas, preservation of cultural heritage, garbage collection, celebrity of hospitals, and school. IoT is also expected to generate large amounts of data from diverse locations, with the consequent necessity for quick aggregation of the data, and an increase in the need to index, store, and process such data more effectively. ... • 37. The Time Of The Internet Of Things To stay connected from any time and any where to any one, any thing and all the things in between is the sole job of the internet of things (IoT). The internet plays an important role in the modern lifestyle of almost all people around the world. From daily routine home chores to industrial means, everything is dependent on the internet either directly or indirectly in order to have network connectivity to each other. The Internet of things came to define several technologies that enable the use of wireless networks and smart sensors to communicate. The Internet of things allows things to be sensed and controlled remotely in wireless network infrastructure (Watts, & Porter, 1997). The early working system in wireless communication started in 1832 by Baron Schilling in Russia, who created electromagnetic telegraph using electrical signals. In 1833, Carl Friedrich Gauss and Wilhelm Weber created a new code, which could communicate over 1200 meter distance in Göttingen, Germany. Shortly after, in 1835 Joseph Henry and Edward Davy reshaped electrical relay by using a magnetic coil that amplified currents. As a result, they could send their electrical signal to far longer distances. 1926 was a year for yet another revolution in the wireless world. Nikola Tesla, an electrical engineer and futurist, invented wireless power transfer (WPT). Wireless power transfer was used to transmit signals to long distances by using electromagnetic fields in a relative field to transmit the power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of The Internet... The "Internet of things" (IoT) is becoming an growing topic of conversation both in the workstation and outside of it. It's a idea that not only has the potential to impact how we live but also how we work. But what exactly is the "Internet of things" and what effect is it going to have on you, if any? There are a lot of difficulties around the "Internet of things" but I want to stick to the basics. Lots of technical and policy–related discussions are being had but many people are still just trying to clench the foundation of what the heck these conversations are about Broadband Internet is become more commonly available, the cost of the connection is decreasing, more devices are being invented with Wi–Fi capabilities and sensors built into ... • 40. Internet Of Things Essay The Internet of Things, or the IoT is envisioned as a ubiquitous society wherein people and devices (referred to as "Things") are connected in a riveting networked computing environment viz. Internet , with the connected "Things" providing utility to people/enterprises through various intelligent commercial and social services. Large chunks of data is generated for devices to communicate with each other to facilitate the Internet Of Things. Data transfer over the Internet is usually a power hungry process. With ever growing necessity of utilizing energy in a more efficient way it is not only important to communicate data at a faster rate but also do so in a very low energy consuming method. This report employs one such method which utilizes the fact that most of the data communicated by the IoT devices processes and services is irregular and generally concentrated over a short duration of time. This method focuses on adapting the duty cycle of these processes/devices so that they are asleep during large periods of inactivity. The report also investigates the Low power consumption system thus obtained as a standalone system running on the energy provided by a Energy Harvestor(PV CELL) .Cost considerations limit the size of the energy harvestor used which affects the power provided by it ,thus the system is so designed such that the energy harvestor is able to run the system during sleep while energy storing elements power the system during its active cycle. This means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
