Aimee Semple McPherson, also known as Sister Aimee, was an American–Canadian evangelist, and
a celebrity in the media networks. She founded a church called Four Square Church. She has been
known for using modern media, especially the radio. She was a strong and powerful woman who led
many to Christ. Aimee was so loving and caring through her ministry, that God would use her to
share with others, the story of Jesus Christ.
Aimee as a child was able to get a first look at religion at a young age, which helped her out in later
years. Aimee was born on October 9th, 1890 in Salford, Ontario, Canada, her father and mother,
James and Mildred Kennedy, were loving and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McPherson spoke in tongues but rarely indicated it. She was known as a faith healer and there were
claims of physical healing during her meetings, which brought her even more fame. By 1917, she
started her own magazine, The Bridal Call, in the magazine she wrote many articles about women's
roles in religion, she portrayed the link between Christians and Jesus is like a marriage bond. The
battle between fundamentalists and modernists escalated after World War I, with many modernists
seeking less conservative faiths. She developed a strong church, the Foursquare Church, which
blends contemporary culture with religious teachings. Aimee Semple McPherson's faith healing
demonstrations were written about a lot in the newspapers. Overtime though, she tried to take out
the faith healing demonstrations because it was overwhelming the other parts of her ministry.
Scheduled healing sessions were still held and many thousands have been claimed saved.
McPherson's career started taking the wrong turn, she was receiving many death threats, and she
almost got kidnapped. On May 18, 1926, McPherson went with her secretary to Ocean Park Beach
north of Venice Beach to swim. Soon after arriving she disappeared and they thought she drowned,
so many people decided to swim to find her, no one could. After many months of searching, Aimee's
mom got a letter asking for half of a million dollars, or else the kidnappers would sell her into
slavery. A few months later Aimee

Foursquare Church Case Study
Question 1 The Foursquare church was founded by Aimee Semple McPherson. Another name for
her was Saint Aimee. The very first church was founded in October of 1923 located in Angelus
Temple in Long Beach, California. They also popped up in Pasadena, Santa Ana, and Santa Monica.
Today, almost all fifty states have Foursquare churches (Our Story). Most denominations are created
because of a disagreement in a previous denomination but the Foursquare church was created
differently. According to a document found on the Foursquare website called, The Holy Scriptures,
Saint Aimee was not trying to make a denomination. She was just trying to evangelize to anyone
who would listen. She started off as a traveling evangelist healing and feeding thousands of people.
She would preach to every race and gender without discrimination. Because so many people started

The juice that is consumed represents the blood of our Savior. Found in 1 Corinthians 11:26, 28,

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup" We are the
branches growing off of Jesus which is the true vine. The Lord's supper also represents the years
between Calvary and when the Lord comes again. It also states that no unbelievers should never be

the most solemn hart–searching, self–examination, forgiveness and love toward all men, that non

Aimee Semple Research Paper
Aimee Semple McPherson was an amazing pioneer and evangelist in the 20th century. She believed
that women should be allowed to vote and pursue significant roles in their homes and society. In her
era women could not vote, and historically many leadership roles in the organized church have been
restricted to males. This has been true in marriage and formal ministry positions. Women were
prominent in the New Testament including contemporaries of Jesus. Born on a Canadian farm in
1890, Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy near Ingersoll, Ontario. She was dedicated to God's service by her
mother when she was a baby. Her mother, an orphan, was raised by foster parents who were in the
Salvation Army. Her father was a Methodist. At age 17, her father took her to a Pentecostal
evangelistic meeting led by Robert Semple. Immediately she believed that God called her to save
lost souls, and she regularly attended many Pentecostal meetings. She wasn't sure how she would be
able to fulfill God's request, but in 1908 she married Semple. He believed he was called to the
mission field in China, and Aimee believed this would fulfill the call. They started with raising
money and also started a small church in Canada. Two years later they went to Ireland to visit
Semple's parents. They also stopped in England where Cecil ... Show more content on

She painted slogans on it and called it her Full Gospel Car. In 1917 she started a paper, The Bridal
Call. She received ordination papers from the Assemblies of God (AOG) in 1918. She also held a
Methodist exhorter license and a Baptist preaching license. By 1919, Aimee, her mother and the two
children traveled across the country and settled in Los Angeles. Her husband became increasingly
opposed to her work. He believed he had lost his wife and son to the traveling ministry. He divorced
her in 1921, on grounds of abandonment. Feeling the need to reach larger interdenominational
groups McPherson dropped her ordination with the AOG in

Revolutionary Changes In The 1920s
During the "roaring twenties," there were many different events that went on that either caused
revolutionary or traditional changes. However, from information of occurrences during the 1920's,
we learn that revolutionary events were more beneficial than traditional changes were. The KKK,
Birth of a Nation, Aimee Semple McPherson, and the Scopes Trial all present examples as to why
our country in the 1920's should've focused on revolutionary changes to progress our society and
homeland. Henry Ford, Harlem Renaissance, Charles Lindbergh, and Flappers are all examples as to
why revolutionary events were more beneficial in progressing the country. Traditional values are
less advantageous because they do not help progress and traditional ideas often lack innovation. ...

By fighting against equality and the rights of citizens that they deemed inferior, they were
continuing the "old" ways of life. They felt that the country was going in the wrong direction with
their more inclusive laws and programs. The clan claimed themselves superior against all minorities,
very similar to the way of life before World War I. They continued their destructive behaviors and
ways of life. Aimee Semple McPherson also presented a way of life that was more traditional than
revolutionary. Aimee was a very popular major religious icon. Many people would come just to hear
her speak. She did shows and became the first woman to preach her beliefs over the radio. It seems
as if being the first person to preach over the radio would be revolutionary, however, she continued
to preach the same beliefs that have been taught for many years. She had many new techniques but
was still just another Christian

We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American...
This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and
fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with
them both and their very presence in many of our modern–day congregations, as well as the secular
parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes
that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald
Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. "We are a
church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to service" is their
mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with
several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one
of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their
commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a
time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own
space is quite impressive. The first thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is
the focus on the stage; very theatrical. To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for
people to follow along with the lyrics when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the

Langston Hughes Research Paper
In 1919, when Langston Hughes was seventeen years old, he spent the summer with his father, Jim
Hughes, in Toluca, Mexico. Langston had not seen his father since he was a small child, and he was
excited about making the trip. However, during this visit, no affectionate bond would develop
between Langston and Jim. Jim Hughes was a cold, difficult man, who was driven by ambition to
make money and achieve respect. He had moved to Mexico to avoid segregation and racial injustice
in the United States. As the manager of an electric company and owner of a ranch and mines, Jim
expressed contempt for black Americans who continued to submit to segregation and live in
poverty.

Langston had no playmates because Mary Langston lived in a run–down, white neighborhood. He
was afraid to leave his yard, where he was safe from rowdy white boys who chased and teased him
about the second hand clothes and cast–off women's shoes that he wore.
Langston spent many hours sitting on a stool beside his grandmother, who read him stories from the
Bible or from his favorite book, Grimm's Fairy Tales. Her long wavy hair had very little gray in it,
and in her ears she wore the small gold earrings Langston's grandfather left her. Her lips were thin,
and her skin, "wrinkled like an Indian squaw's," was a lighter shade of brown than Langston's.
Carrie Hughes worked in Topeka as a stenographer for a black attorney and as a clerk for a
newspaper. Occasionally, on weekends, she would take Langston to Kansas City. His Uncle
Dessalines owned a barbershop in a black neighborhood, where people's lifestyles were far different
from that of his strict grandmother in Lawrence. Langston roamed the streets near the barbershop.
He played the nickelodeon and listened to street musicians playing the "blues."
Mary Langston was a devoted grandmother to her grandson. (Yale Collection of American
Literature, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library)
In 1908, six–year–old Langston moved to Topeka to live with his mother in an apartment over a
plumbing shop. Jim Hughes

Seeding the Vision: Symbolic Convergence Theory and Aimee Semple McPherson Underation
offers research that exhibits how Aimee Semple McPherson, the infamous evangelical female
preacher from the 1920's, started a religious movement that over a period of time, influenced a large
group of people around the nation. McPherson was a female preacher who made prominent waves
in the evangelical community. She held gatherings in tents and was one of the first women in the
nation to license a radio station. While she used stories and images from the Bible, she also provided
her listeners with materials to build the expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using symbolic convergence theory and fantasy theme analysis, the researcher identified four
fantasy types. The fantasy types include: 1) I am a survivor, 2) I am a dreamer, 3) I am an activist,
and 4) I can do anything. Through these types and teenage–created content, this research used
symbolic convergence theory to assess how photos and stories created an accurate reality for its
readers to relate to. The study mentions how one of its competitors, Seventeen magazine, had stories
that showcased girls insecurities, focused on putting fashion as a priority of a career, and how males
are superior (with its gendered messages about employment). Based from this time era as well, the
study describes that Teen Voice was emerging at a time in the 1990's in which females were
concerned of feminist, gender, and beauty issues that targeted the 12 to 19 year old female
demographic. The study examined and focused on the print version of Teen Magazine during its
publication form 1990 to 2012. The researcher examined ten issues ranging from the years 1996,
2000's–06, and 2011/2012, which included non–fiction stories, poetry, and excluded "Letter from

Aimee Book Report
Percentage of reading: 100% Aimee Semple McPherson is the founder of the International Church
of the Foursquare Gospel and also known as the Foursquare Denomination. She was born in Canada
on a small farm and had an encounter with the Lord that changed her life forever. She was born and
raised in a Christian family, but at a young age had an encounter with the Lord that had her desiring
to be as intimate as possible in a relationship with Him. From that moment forward her adventure
with God began. As a young woman, she married an Evangelist name Robert Semple. After

Eventually, her ministry was booming and she was being called to many places to lead
revival/evangelistic meetings. She then moved to Los Angeles, which in due time built the church
now called Angelus Temple. Aimee continued in her evangelistic mission and continued to preach
all over the world. She had even set up a radio broadcasting and a magazine that she ministered to
people through. All in all, Aimee was one of the most prominent female leaders of the Christian
church. She was used mightily by God and really had the heart to reach all of the world for Jesus
Christ. Through her obedience to the Lord, she established the Foursquare denomination which has
always had a missional heart. Through the denomination that she established a bible college was
also established and continue to equip leaders for the ministry. Aimee Semple McPherson was by no
means a perfect person, she had her faults, but one thing is that she was an obedient follower of
Christ. Aimee loved the Lord and wanted to share that love with everyone. She had experienced the
power of the Holy Spirit and knew that it was available to everyone. I can say that Aimee may have
been one of the most influential female leaders from the 1900's. Her obedience and love for the Lord
had a tremendous impact on the world and the church, that we still see

Charismatic Theology
The charismatic movement1 began within the historic churches in the 1950s. On the American
scene it started to attract broad attention in 1960, with the national publicity given to the ministry of
the Reverend Dennis Bennett, an Episcopalian in Van Nuys, California. Since then there has been a
continuing growth of the movement within many of the mainline churches: first, such Protestant
churches as Episcopal, Lutheran, and Presbyterian; second, the Roman Catholic (beginning in
1967); and third, the Greek Orthodox (beginning about 1971).2 by now the charismatic movement
has become worldwide and has participants in many countries

The Pentecostal/Charismatic movement is heavily splintered; the number of groups within this
movement number in the tens of thousands. We can, however, examine the major groups of the
movement. Pentecostalism and its offshoots can be divided into three groups: "Classical"
Pentecostals, those who are members of the standard Pentecostal groups, most of which originated
in the first quarter of the twentieth century; the Charismatics, or those in other denominations who
received the "baptism of the Holy Spirit;" and the so–called "Neo–Charismatics," the groups formed
in the last half of the century, most of which are not affiliated with the Pentecostal denominations.
We will examine the "classical" Pentecostal groups in more detail; it will suffice to say for the
Charismatics that they are present in the majority of the denominations of Christendom, normally
having their own associations as part of their denominations "
We must first examine the "pre–Pentecostal" era, the time before 1901. Many churches received the
message of the Holiness movement, which stemmed from Wesleyan theology. Many of these groups
were looking forward to a "renewal of the Holy Spirit," when the gifts present on the day of
Pentecost would return to the churches. Many of these Holiness groups became Pentecostal after the

American Pentecostalism had to adapt to governance. There was an argument with another

coming from the West and Southwest appeared. Assemblies of the World (PAW) started to suffer.

Public Parks And Other Public Spaces In Los Angeles Echo Park
Throughout every major city you will find a variety of parks and other public spaces. In this paper, I
will explore who came up with the idea of public parks, and why public parks and other public
spaces exist, as well as, take a deeper look at the history of one of Los Angeles' oldest parks, Echo
Park.
The American Industrial Revolution was a period where major changes in manufacturing,
transportation, and technology greatly influenced the social and economic conditions in America.
The production of goods usually took place in home businesses and were crafted by hand. With the
introduction of machine–aided factories, the volume and variety of goods greatly increased, and
there was no longer a need for hand crafted goods. By the end of the ... Show more content on

As the servicemen who fought in World War I returned to the city, Echo Park had the biggest
development boom in its entire history. "Where there had been farmhouses or vacant lots, builders
added Spanish–style courtyards and apartments with arched windows and red–tiled roofs around the
lake" (Erickson, "Echo Park Historical Society"). One of the biggest attractions sat just at the north
end of the lake across the street. Founded by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923, the Angelus
Temple drew enormous crowds to the lake so they could listen to her radio program. The boom
didn't stop there. In 1924 a series of storefronts opened one block from the lake, giving Echo Park
its first shopping district. New businesses and recreation centers continued to sprout up all around
Echo Park, but in 1929, when the stock market crashed, everything came to a screeching halt.
From 1870 till today, Echo Park Lake has endured many hardships. In the past It has been polluted
with trash and debris, killing plants and wildlife. It has been vandalized numerous times. And it has
been closed from the public due to disrepair. Most recently, after being closed for two years, the
Park underwent a 45–million–dollar makeover. In 2013, it was re–opened to the

The Impact Of Technology On Religion
Religion has been around for as long as human have been alive. Religion has played a big role in
peoples, cultures, the way some people live, people's decisions and the way they act and our society.
Religions has played a role in our civilization for the good and there are some for the bad or as
others may refer as controversial. Technology is something people have had for quite some time
now and we have used it to communicate and spread information and our ideas. Technology has
played a role in religion for the good and for the bad.
Technology has helped spread the word of religion through different communications. One of the
first few technological ways of communication besides word of mouth was through the printing
press. This helped spread religion more and helped people's literacy rates improve since written text
was becoming more common. This helped people study their beliefs and faiths on their own. This
also helped with religions being more diversified and helped peoples get more into their religion. In
the 1920's radio started becoming popular and one year later on January 2, 1921 the first religious
radio took broadcasted from the Pittsburgh Calvary episcopal church. At first pastors and other
religious people believed this was a joke and it wasn't to be taken seriously. As number were
climbing people started believing how much it worked after Aimee Semple McPherson became
nationally famous through the religious radio. Aimee Semple McPherson ended up building one

She founded a church called Four Square Church. She has been known for using modern media, especially the radio. She was a strong and powerful woman who led many to Christ. Aimee was so loving and caring through her ministry, that God would use her to share with others, the story of Jesus Christ. McPherson spoke in tongues but rarely indicated it. She was known as a faith healer and there were claims of physical healing during her meetings, which brought her even more fame. By 1917, she started her own magazine, The Bridal Call, in the magazine she wrote many articles about women's roles in religion, she portrayed the link between Christians and Jesus is like a marriage bond. The battle between fundamentalists and modernists escalated after World War I, with many modernists seeking less conservative faiths. She developed a strong church, the Foursquare Church, which blends contemporary culture with religious teachings. Aimee Semple McPherson's faith healing demonstrations were written about a lot in the newspapers. Overtime though, she tried to take out the faith healing demonstrations because it was overwhelming the other parts of her ministry. Scheduled healing sessions were still held and many thousands have been claimed saved. McPherson's career started taking the wrong turn, she was receiving many death threats, and she almost got kidnapped. On May 18, 1926, McPherson went with her secretary to Ocean Park Beach north of Venice Beach to swim. Soon after arriving she disappeared and they thought she drowned, so many people decided to swim to find her, no one could. After many months of searching, Aimee's mom got a letter asking for half of a million dollars, or else the kidnappers would sell her into slavery. A few months later Aimee ... • 2. Foursquare Church Case Study Question 1 The Foursquare church was founded by Aimee Semple McPherson. Another name for her was Saint Aimee. The very first church was founded in October of 1923 located in Angelus Temple in Long Beach, California. They also popped up in Pasadena, Santa Ana, and Santa Monica. Today, almost all fifty states have Foursquare churches (Our Story). Most denominations are created because of a disagreement in a previous denomination but the Foursquare church was created differently. According to a document found on the Foursquare website called, The Holy Scriptures, Saint Aimee was not trying to make a denomination. She was just trying to evangelize to anyone who would listen. She started off as a traveling evangelist healing and feeding thousands of people. She would preach to every race and gender without discrimination. Because so many people started attending her sermons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The juice that is consumed represents the blood of our Savior. The Lord's supper also represents the years between Calvary and when the Lord comes again. It also states that no unbelievers should never be preceded by, "the most serving and receiving of this blessed sacrament should be ever preceded by the most solemn hart–searching, self–examination, forgiveness and love toward all men, that non partake unworthily and drink condemnation to his own soul." • 4. Aimee Semple Research Paper Aimee Semple McPherson was an amazing pioneer and evangelist in the 20th century. She believed that women should be allowed to vote and pursue significant roles in their homes and society. In her era women could not vote, and historically many leadership roles in the organized church have been restricted to males. This has been true in marriage and formal ministry positions. Women were prominent in the New Testament including contemporaries of Jesus. Born on a Canadian farm in 1890, Aimee Elizabeth Kennedy near Ingersoll, Ontario. She was dedicated to God's service by her mother when she was a baby. Her mother, an orphan, was raised by foster parents who were in the Salvation Army. Her father was a Methodist. At age 17, her father took her to a Pentecostal evangelistic meeting led by Robert Semple. Immediately she believed that God called her to save lost souls, and she regularly attended many Pentecostal meetings. She wasn't sure how she would be able to fulfill God's request, but in 1908 she married Semple. He believed he was called to the mission field in China, and Aimee believed this would fulfill the call. They started with raising money and also started a small church in Canada. • 5. Revolutionary Changes In The 1920s During the "roaring twenties," there were many different events that went on that either caused revolutionary or traditional changes. However, from information of occurrences during the 1920's, we learn that revolutionary events were more beneficial than traditional changes were. The KKK, Birth of a Nation, Aimee Semple McPherson, and the Scopes Trial all present examples as to why our country in the 1920's should've focused on revolutionary changes to progress our society and homeland. Henry Ford, Harlem Renaissance, Charles Lindbergh, and Flappers are all examples as to why revolutionary events were more beneficial in progressing the country. Traditional values are less advantageous because they do not help progress and traditional ideas often lack innovation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By fighting against equality and the rights of citizens that they deemed inferior, they were continuing the "old" ways of life. They felt that the country was going in the wrong direction with their more inclusive laws and programs. The clan claimed themselves superior against all minorities, very similar to the way of life before World War I. They continued their destructive behaviors and ways of life. Aimee Semple McPherson also presented a way of life that was more traditional than revolutionary. Aimee was a very popular major religious icon. Many people would come just to hear her speak. She did shows and became the first woman to preach her beliefs over the radio. It seems as if being the first person to preach over the radio would be revolutionary, however, she continued to preach the same beliefs that have been taught for many years. • 6. We Are A Catholic Heritage By Donald Dayton And American... This semester, as a class, we have peeled away the layers of what evangelicalism and fundamentalism means throughout history, especially in our Western culture. I am intrigued with them both and their very presence in many of our modern–day congregations, as well as the secular parts of our society. After visiting Grace Covenant Church of Austin, Texas, many of the attributes that have been emphasized in books such as Rediscovering an Evangelical Heritage by Donald Dayton and American Apocalypse by Matthew Sutton, I experienced while visiting Grace. "We are a church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to service" is their mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive. The first thing you notice upon entering the stadium styled sanctuary, is the focus on the stage; very theatrical. To the left of the stage, there is a large drop down screen for people to follow along with the lyrics when the singing has begun. Hanging behind the band on the main stage, is a "bohemian" or ... • 7. Langston Hughes Research Paper In 1919, when Langston Hughes was seventeen years old, he spent the summer with his father, Jim Hughes, in Toluca, Mexico. Langston had not seen his father since he was a small child, and he was excited about making the trip. However, during this visit, no affectionate bond would develop between Langston and Jim. Jim Hughes was a cold, difficult man, who was driven by ambition to make money and achieve respect. He had moved to Mexico to avoid segregation and racial injustice in the United States. As the manager of an electric company and owner of a ranch and mines, Jim expressed contempt for black Americans who continued to submit to segregation and live in poverty. Langston had no playmates because Mary Langston lived in a run–down, white neighborhood. He was afraid to leave his yard, where he was safe from rowdy white boys who chased and teased him about the second hand clothes and cast–off women's shoes that he wore. Langston spent many hours sitting on a stool beside his grandmother, who read him stories from the Bible or from his favorite book, Grimm's Fairy Tales. Her long wavy hair had very little gray in it, and in her ears she wore the small gold earrings Langston's grandfather left her. Her lips were thin, and her skin, "wrinkled like an Indian squaw's," was a lighter shade of brown than Langston's. Carrie Hughes worked in Topeka as a stenographer for a black attorney and as a clerk for a newspaper. Occasionally, on weekends, she would take Langston to Kansas City. His Uncle Dessalines owned a barbershop in a black neighborhood, where people's lifestyles were far different from that of his strict grandmother in Lawrence. Langston roamed the streets near the barbershop. He played the nickelodeon and listened to street musicians playing the "blues." Mary Langston was a devoted grandmother to her grandson. Eventually, her ministry was booming and she was being called to many places to lead revival/evangelistic meetings. She then moved to Los Angeles, which in due time built the church now called Angelus Temple. Aimee continued in her evangelistic mission and continued to preach all over the world. She had even set up a radio broadcasting and a magazine that she ministered to people through. All in all, Aimee was one of the most prominent female leaders of the Christian church. She was used mightily by God and really had the heart to reach all of the world for Jesus Christ. Through her obedience to the Lord, she established the Foursquare denomination which has always had a missional heart. Through the denomination that she established a bible college was also established and continue to equip leaders for the ministry. Aimee Semple McPherson was by no means a perfect person, she had her faults, but one thing is that she was an obedient follower of Christ. Aimee loved the Lord and wanted to share that love with everyone. She had experienced the power of the Holy Spirit and knew that it was available to everyone. I can say that Aimee may have been one of the most influential female leaders from the 1900's. On the American scene it started to attract broad attention in 1960, with the national publicity given to the ministry of the Reverend Dennis Bennett, an Episcopalian in Van Nuys, California. Since then there has been a continuing growth of the movement within many of the mainline churches: first, such Protestant churches as Episcopal, Lutheran, and Presbyterian; second, the Roman Catholic (beginning in 1967); and third, the Greek Orthodox (beginning about 1971).2 by now the charismatic movement has become worldwide and has participants in many countries As one involved in the movement since 1965, I should like to set forth a brief profile of it.3 A profile of the ... We can, however, examine the major groups of the movement. Pentecostalism and its offshoots can be divided into three groups: "Classical" Pentecostals, those who are members of the standard Pentecostal groups, most of which originated in the first quarter of the twentieth century; the Charismatics, or those in other denominations who received the "baptism of the Holy Spirit;" and the so–called "Neo–Charismatics," the groups formed in the last half of the century, most of which are not affiliated with the Pentecostal denominations. We will examine the "classical" Pentecostal groups in more detail; it will suffice to say for the Charismatics that they are present in the majority of the denominations of Christendom, normally having their own associations as part of their denominations " We must first examine the "pre–Pentecostal" era, the time before 1901. Many churches received the message of the Holiness movement, which stemmed from Wesleyan theology. The American Industrial Revolution was a period where major changes in manufacturing, transportation, and technology greatly influenced the social and economic conditions in America. One of the biggest attractions sat just at the north end of the lake across the street. In 1924 a series of storefronts opened one block from the lake, giving Echo Park its first shopping district.
