3. Intro
This video has a brief story line to it, a two sided story. One of
the story of the brothel and the second the scene including
the one sided relationship of the lovers dining together.
4. Lighting
Lighting in the first scene (introduction to the brothel) is lit
dimly but still enough to show body and facial features to
make a sensual setting. The scene including the “lovers” is
lit in a cold light showing entire facial features but showing
the cold tension in the scene.
5. Costumes are props
Their use of costumes and props. The way they have dressed
the background characters and positioned the props in the
foreground have all been put there to enhance the
atmosphare of the scene. The costumes are all relating to
the story line and do help tell the story of a brothel.
6. Camera work
In the opening scene where it is “roxanne” and the man
dancing telling us about moulin rouge, the camera is in a
wide shot to show the movement of the characters. Further
into the scene when he says the word “suspicion” the
camera then zooms to show the expression of roxanne and
her searching eyes around the room. When people from
the foreground come in also the camera is on a low angle
focussing on the low movement of the dancers. In every
scene camera angles are used to show the movement and
expression.
7. Editing
In each scene editing has been used in sharp cuts and the
deep reds in the scene have been highlighted. The cuts
between the opening tango are quick and sharp to show the
tension that is building, or in this case accompanied by the
music the cuts are leading upto a big scene (dance
break, fight between lovers). The end scene with the lovers
is also in cuts and slowed down in certain parts. The scene
is also tinted blue to set the cold feeling.
