WHY MEDICAL STUDENTS NEED BETTER TRAINING? The Profession Await Major Crisis
1. WHY MEDICAL STUDENTS NEED BETTER TRAINING?
The Profession Await Major Crisis
Dr.T.V.Rao MD
Indian Medical Education and health services are engulfed with midlife crisis, we are engulfed by
Corruption, politics money, and least merit, above all the people are interested to make the Medical
profession as Money making trade, My role is limited with age and many limitations when I see how
the Hospital administrators are struggling to run the Institutes, it should be an eye opener to young
Administrators how they run the system in future, never forget you have to run the system with
most inefficient people within 5-10 years, and many Hospital await litigation, and even closure. I am
always with the cause of the youth whether we like it or not they are the persons to handle the
society A lack of proper training of the medical students in skills, modern education is the root cause
of several major issues in India, and the right education for all our Medical students has the potential
to solve all these problems at some time in future: Practically few take interest in teaching the skills
and procedures in Surgery or Medicine, or any Clinical specialty In Most medical colleges, there are
not effective teachers to teach skills to make a basic Doctors, many states are facing the problem the
young Doctors are refusing to go to rural areas to serve, people with or without money happy with
the City life, their teacher are busy making money in private practice. I am bold to support their
cause they are born out of most inefficient system they were educated The hospital management’s
never care for any efficiency in the system and think if they are getting higher success or making
more money is sufficient for making the business, however no system will be successful for long
term without efficiency ethics and merit based evaluations. I wish not be an enemy in the system I
work to believe, if we educate our Medical and nursing Students in the right way, our Doctors and
Nurses will gain the necessary skills to survive in a competitive world. This would lead to better
paying jobs and a higher standard of living, Today hospitals not appointing any Post graduates even,
without skills, hence solving the crisis of falling medical standards. If we educate youth in the right
way, our Medical professionals will have a broader mind-set. This would lead to greater tolerance
and an appreciation of human suffering, hence solving the Emerging crisis in Medical education and
Health care. I do not believe the Teachers telling these students are useless? I never found a bad
students or somebody misbehaving with me it all means if we sincere they trust us or else they
ignore us. If we educate our Medical students in India in the right way, our Doctors will be able to
better understanding on the negative repercussions and immoral nature of fraudulent activities,
hence solving the crisis of degenerating Medical standards. I should not be blamed on my negative
thinking on teachers, the teacher in particular the seniors have become rare commodities with
growing demand in medical colleges, there are so many teachers without any basic skills in the
subject which they were teaching for the last 4 decades, however if you think on positive side
teachers till have greater role play in the world of Medicine like any other profession If we educate
India in the right way, our Doctors will gain a moral conscience, and realize the worth of a human life
and the position of real poor patients in society, hence solving the crisis of human rights violations
which is encroaching faster in the Medical Profession . India is currently facing one of the worst
educational crises in the world. Leave alone Medical profession if you can read the Social articles
published in the Newspaper and media telecasted how the helpless are neglected in the name of
making money leaving the basic duty as Teachers and Doctors. As an Indian citizen, the odds that
you can read are just barely in our favour – 40% of India is illiterate. Besides the literacy rate being
despicable, it means that majority of the patients were dealt with unscientific methods as we think
they are illiterate.
2. If you understand basic ills in our Medical colleges are so many, we are neither powerful nor Gods to
bring the radical changes in our Universities or Medical colleges, at least if we think about little
things we can make a difference
Our classrooms are understaffed (1 in 4 teachers will be absent on any given day)
Our teachers could be more engaged (Only 50% are likely to be teaching at any given time)
Many Teacher think taking 1 -2 classes a week they are doing great favour to colleges they work
If we want to change these numbers, we need to wake up, and be the change. We need each and
every Teacher and even the Citizens of India to be a significant part of the solution. We need you to
lead our country out of this crisis. Many of Postgraduate even in specialties are facing crisis due to
improper training they attained during their studentship and postgraduate ship.
I HOPE DARWIN IS THINKING WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MEDICAL PROFESSION IN FUTURE? NEVER
FORGET BAD TRAINING MAKES BAD DOCTORS? IN FUTURE MANY PATIENTS WILL NOT DIE DUE TO
LACK OF DOCTORS BUT BECAUSE OF IGNORANCE OF DOCTORS?
