2. Data Security
Data security means to protect your pc/ network/
database from destructive forces, changes to data,
disclosure or destruction of data by unauthorized
users.
Things to consider in making a secure system;
• The physical access to the system.
3. Data Security
• Passwords – Keeping them secure, don’t tell
anyone or write them down
• You can also password protect your computer and
your documents from unwanted users or editing
• Back up your work onto another hard drive so if it
goes wrong you still have your work.
• Using Emails
4. Legal Issues – Data Protection
• Data protection is the handling of
information about individuals
• Only certain people can see your personal
information
• This is covered by the Data Protection Act.
• This is an Act of Parliament brings the UK
law in line with other European Law relating
to the privacy and security of personal data

• The Act states that certain data protection
principles should be applied
Fairly and lawfully processed
Processed for limited purposes
Adequate, relevant and not excessive
Accurate and up to date
Not kept for longer than is necessary
Processed in line with your rights Secure

6. Legal Issues – Copy Right
• Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most
governments, that grants the creator of an original
work exclusive rights to its use and distribution
• It means under UK law that no one may copy, print,
perform or film work without the copyright owner’s
permission
7. Legal Issues – Copy Right
• Copyright infringement – This is using or
stealing somebody else's work that is under
copyright without the permission from the
copyright holder.
• This is for example if you download or film or
some music from the internet that you would
normally have to pay for but you get it for free
• E.G Torrenting
8. Legal Issues – Software
• Computer programs are also protected by
Copyright legislation.
• Most software comes with a software license, this
is a legal instrument governing the use or
redistribution of software Using a piece of software
without having a proper licence is illegal
9. Software
• Companies and Individuals can be fined for using
illegal software
• open source – This is software that is available to
the general public for use and/or modification from
its original design
10. Logging into windows
Once your pc boots up it will go to the login screen
shown below.
11. Logging into windows
you then press control/alt and delete at the same
time as instructed on screen, this then brings up the
login window. You then type in your user
name/number and password then press enter.
12. Logging into windows
DON’T forget if you walk away from your pc to lock it
so no one else can access your information. This is
done by pressing control/alt and delete again at the
same time select lock screen from the options. To log
back in repeat login steps in previous slide
13. Forget or lost your password
It is important that don’t forget or lose your password
it should be something only you know and can
remember with writing it down. If you do forget or
lose it you can get a new password by going to
learning resources on the 2nd floor and re-swiping
your student I.D card at the terminal
