2. THE ROLE OF DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT IN
INCREASING EFFICIENCY AND PRODUCTIVITY OF AN ORGANIZATION
Abstract
This MBA dissertation focuses on the different management styles and techniques,
as well as the specific technique which works on a particular circumstance. The
consistency in the increase of productivity within an organization highly depends
on the appropriate choices on management techniques. The primary aim of
organizations and businesses is to make sure that it functions in the most efficient
way. Most often, the owner of a company takes the responsibility in order to make
things happen. Aside from owners, managers also take part in delegating
responsibility. Regardless of the case, there are different management strategies
and techniques which can be implemented so as to potentially increase the
effectiveness and the efficiency of an organization.
I. Introduction
There are different management techniques which can prove to be helpful when it
comes to increasing the efficiency and productivity of any organization. However,
selecting the best one is a challenging decision to execute. As such, the main goal
of this research is to focus on studying different techniques, their potential impact
to the organization, as well as the appropriate choice of such techniques when it
comes to the various management levels.
II. Research Scope
The scope of this research is limited only to the different research methods that will
be explained in this research. Even though the actual title of this research provides
the implication that this research is based according to a broader concept, but the
actual scope has already been filtered down in order to analyze the actual role that
these business management techniques have in the community they are being
used. This research particularly focuses on three companies that belong to the
retail industry in the United States. These companies include Tels, Fesco, and
Salbury. The techniques being implemented in these companies are being
reviewed. Afterward, a comparative analysis is being performed in order to evaluate
and assess the impact and role that these techniques have on the actual efficiency
and productivity of the organization. This research also focuses on analyzing how
these different companies review and implement different business management
techniques in order to increase productivity levels from time to time.
3. III. Proposed Research Methodology
Choosing the best research methodology for a specific research can be considered
as among the most important decisions that any researcher needs to make. This is
because the entire output of the report highly depends on it. Various methods of
research may be applied in order to potentially arrive at a specific result. When
talking about research methods, it may be said that there are generally two
research approaches: quantitative and qualitative. Because certain theoretical
methods are used widely in this particular research, qualitative research is utilized
in this specific research.
IV. Research Background
Professor David Pfister (2002) made a distinction between the difference of being
‘effective’ and being ‘efficient’. In his own book, he explained that when a specific
activity is being down in an economical and swift way, it focuses more on
efficiency. However, if the right thing is correctly done, it refers to being effective.
He also further suggested that when something wrong is done, it would be
completely ineffective based on the definition. Therefore, rare common sense plays
a huge role in this regard because it can help in guiding organizations and
employees towards having control on the appropriate and specific goal.
V. Literature Review
The management functions primarily on the sole clarification of the manager
duties. These commonly mentioned functions in management include organizing,
planning, leading, as well as controlling. (Howell, 2004). These functions is often
facilitated in order to achieve a practical way of categorizing the management, as
well as information. A functional framework is also developed, and it consist of the
most vital transcripts which has been developed for this reason. (Matthew, 2004).
