1. Controlled Observation
Observation (watching what people do) would seem to be an obvious method of carrying out
research in psychology. However, there are different types of observational methods and distinctions
need to be made between: Controlled Observations; Natural Observations, Participant Observations.
Controlled observations (usually a structured observation) are likely to be carried out in a psychology
laboratory. The researcher decides where the observation will take place, at what time, with which
participants, in what circumstances and uses a standardised procedure. Participants are randomly

3. Kindergarten Observation Essay examples
The school I went to visit was Public School 69. It was my little brothers elementary school. The
reason I chose the school, was because I remember seeing him happy every time he came home
from kindergarten. Every day he would come home and have a different project he did in class to
show off. The outside of the school looked like a regular public school, but inside Miss Suzy's*
(not her real name) classroom was bright, warm, and inviting. My visitation was in the morning,

I learned the day before my visit, Miss Suzy threw a pizza party for the children. The day of my
visit they were going to make their own individual pizzas (I did not get to view that part of the
day). I noticed that during circle time, two children seemed uninterested had wandered off. Miss
Suzy did not do anything about it, she just let them be. I thought that was wrong of her because the
two children were not being involved. The children could of already known what they were
speaking about. If that was the case she should of given them some work to do. When circle time
was over, Miss Suzy asked each child which part of the room they wanted to play in. Students
chose dramatic play, arts and crafts, reading, and playing on the computer. Miss Suzy walked
around each group asking them questions, expanding their imaginations. Morrison states "that
teachers work with gingival children, small groups" (2003, p.232). Watching Miss Suzy, you can
see she really enjoys what she does. She never once ignored a student who went up to her. She
seemed genuily interested when the children shared stories with her. She always welcomed them
with a hug when walking into the room in the morning to begin their day, and the children would

4. Creative Play Observation
During my observation, I could perceive that use of material in creative format satisfy their cognitive
and social development during their imagination in play. The lead teacher helps to build their
confidence with their experiences with others. The creative format helps children to discover and
understand about their environment. I can see that when children are in an imaginative play, they are
using different materials, they can express themselves verbally and non–verbal. They also act,
interact, react, and pretend different roles.

5. Communication Observation
For my first observation I was in the cafeteria at the place I go to volunteer "D&M with my

6. Social Observation Essay
We live in a society that is filled with many different people from so many backgrounds, but there
is a limited number of social classes. There are stereotypes about the people in each of the and
some meet those stereotypes, but can you tell just from observing people what class they belong to.
After observing two different people, I assumed what class there are a part of based on appearance
and actions.
The first person I observed I assumed to be a part of the middle class. This person was a woman
dining with a man, that I assume to be her husband. Both her and the man were white, and looked
like they both were in their fifties. Though I would put both of in that age range, I believe that he
was a few years older than her. She of average height and on the thinner side when it came to
weight. Her hair was cut short, a longer pixie cut, had golden blonde highlights through her
copper hair, and was styled nicely. From experience, I would say that her hair does not take too
much time, but she would have to take some time to style every day. Which means, that she
would own a fair amount of hair products whether a straightener or spray/gel products. Even with
the assumption of her owning hair products, it did not appear to be the same with makeup; she
either had a very small amount on or none at all. Continuing with what is on her face, the woman

7. Art Classroom Observation
On today I observed Mrs. Dillon's 6th period art class. The room was filled with students' artwork,
both from the past semesters and the current semester. Among the artwork were mosaics, murals,
cement masks, and art guides – color wheel. It was a combination of 9th, 10th, and 11th graders,
both male and female. There were 23 students present and they sat in groups around tables
consisting of two boys and two girls and one table filled with all boys. The teacher was absent on
today, but the students behaved just as if she were there. When they entered the classroom, the

8. Participant Observation Essay
Naturally, I found that participant observation and interviews generated different types of
information. Participant observation generated information, outlined previously in the essay, that
was subjective. Interviews, on the contrary, gave me a relatively in–depth insight into my
informants' lives, these insights will be explained later in the essay. Interviews allowed me to

9. Library Observation Essay
For my first school library teacher observation, I observed Ms. Gallo–Toth at Brookline Public
School's John D. Runkle Elementary School. According to the Brookline Public Schools website
(PSBMA) Website– Runkle School, para.3) is a K–8 school that has about 560 students. The Runkle
School is also a host to many Spanish English Language Learner students as well as the Reaching
Independence through Structured Education program for children on the autistic spectrum. I
observed Ms. Gallo–Toth introduce the library to sixth grade students as well as visit kindergarten
classrooms to become acquainted with the kindergartners before their formal visit to the library.
Furthermore, I observed an author and illustrator visit to first and second graders at the Martin
Sleeper Library at the John D. Runkle School that derived from collaboration between Ms.
Gallo–Toth and a local independent bookstore. Moreover, I increased my understanding of how a
school library teacher employs collaboration and flexibility to administer the school library program.
The culmination of my observations of Ms. Gallo–Toth highlighted how school library teachers have
many roles within the school such as instruction, collaboration, promoting literacy, and as the school
library program administrator.

If I am walking around my hometown and notice that half or more people are overweight, the way
that I would explain this observation is by focusing on the person's diet as it relates to the amount
of processed foods which consist of hormones and GMOs that the people consume every day out
of habit and social acceptance. If I were C. Wright Mills my analysis would differ in the
observation by not focusing on a single person's diet habits but on the public as a whole and how the
food market focuses on creating these processed foods and distributes these foods filled with
hormones and GMOs into the public causing this obesity problem.
