The Cause of World War I There is not just one reason alone why the WWI started, one moment
two countries would be fighting and then straight after another country could be fighting. Europe
was pretty much at each others throats from 1871 until the war started in 1914. The many long
term causes were building lots of tension between the complex alliances and eventually the
tension would grow so big and would only need one thing to spark off a world war. In this essay I

This was called 'The Scramble for Colonies' and it caused disputes and tension which could soon
turn into a short term cause and spark war. The Anglo–German Naval Race As Great Britain was an
island it needed a large navy and only a small army, this they had. Britain's navy was the strongest
navy about and had been for a very long time. Britain based the strength of her navy on the 'Two
Power Standard.' This meant that Britain's navy could battle and defeat any two navies in the
world! On the other hand Germany wanted an empire as large as France's or Britain's so they

from country to country. With Germany's only coast being next to Britain she would need a navy
as strong as The Royal Navy, if not it would be easy for Britain to trap Germany and stop all their

wrong because the cost of creating these battleships for Britain was much less of there total income

again, Britain had the most square miles of empire. Due to this, many countries felt threatened by

November 11 1918. The three most important cause of world war 1 are militarism, nationalism, and

Militarism is one of the most important causes of world war 1.Militarism means that the army
and military forces are given by the government. Militarism was used by Great Britain and
Germany, as they both stock up their military, preparing for war. Great Britain and Germany built

"In Britain and Europe, no event is less forgotten than World War I, or 'The Great War,' as it was
called until 1939"– Michael Korda. Like the quote stated, World War I was a war that can't be
extenuated. World War I wasn't a spontaneous war; as, there were factors that ignited such a great
war. The rise of Nationalism was one of the causes of World War I. people devoted themselves for
their nation, and they wanted to prove to be invincible compared to other nations. This resulted in a
rivalry between Europe's greatest forces: Germany, Austria–Hungary, France, Britain, Russia, and
Italy. In order to support nationalism, these nations were constantly searching for territories to place

It helped bring the idea of trenches which are tunnels used in seeking protection during war. New
weapons were also developed as a result of WWI. Among these weapons is the poison gas which was
introduced by the Germans. Another weapon was the machine gun which fires ammunition
automatically. The tanks and submarines were also developed during the war. The tank was an
armored combat vehicle that moved on chain tracks– and thus could cross many types of terrain. It
was introduced by the British in 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. In 1914, the Germans introduced
the submarine as an effective warship. The submarine's primary weapon against ships was the
torpedo, an underwater missile. World War I introduced airplane warfare–and by doing so, ushered
in an era of tremendous progress in the field of military aviation. Penicillin, the antibiotic used to
cure many diseases, was also discovered around this time. Most importantly, WWI ushered the era
of Great Depression which started in the U.S and lasted for some 10 years. The Great Depression
was the worst economic crisis faced by the world with the market stocks reaching rock bottom and
unemployment

Causes of World War I There were many factors that lead to World War I. In 1914 to 1918,
European countries go to war. The start of the war was the assassination of Austria–Hungary's
archduke, who was killed by Serbian nationalist. However, the most significant causes of World War
I were militarism, alliances, and imperialism. The cause of World War Iwas militarism. Militarism is
the policy of building up weapons for a country. The chart tells the amount of money spent on
armaments from 1870 through 1914 (Document #1). It shows the increase of weapons also
increased the chance of war. "The mobilization of Russia deprived statesman of the opportunity of
curing the disease, and placed the issue in the hands of the military powers" (Document #5). It

their access to markets, raw materials, and returns on their investments by seizing outright political
and military control of the undeveloped war" (Document #9). It shows the history of imperialism in
Europe, and how it created conflict and competition for other empires.. "...the imperialism of all
European states has chronically poisoned international relations" (Document #5). It shows
imperialism has spread throughout Europe, creating war through jealousy and disrupting the
balance power. Imperialism was one of the causes of World War I. The significant causes of World
War I are militarism, alliances, and imperialism. Militarism caused competition in spending more
money to get more weapons. Creating alliances destroyed other relationships and worried them.

World War 1 was known as one of the most destructive wars of all time. The fighting between the
Central Powers and the Allied Forces caused over 16 million casualties. The Central Powers
consisted of Germany, Austria–Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire and the Allied Powers
were Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan, and the United States. The war began in

1914.This event may have been the final straw but there were so many events that were leading up
to this that have been ignored over the course of history. The imperialistic, territorial and economic
rivalries that had intensified over the year's added additional strain on the worlds affairs, countries
clamored over the space trying to secure their "relationships" with other countries and people
usually by means of force which was a major economic push factor for the leader of the countries to

Over the passing centuries the head of the Ottoman Empire was changed from person to person,
Ertugrul the original leader of the Ottoman Empire died in 1281 and on his death the role of
leader was passed on to his son Osman Gazi who during his reign defeated the Byzantine force
near Nicaea and lead the Siege of Bursa but sadly Osman was to die during that siege in 1326
when he fell ill and ordered his son to take Bursa. When news reached Osman Gazi on his
