2. Defenision :
Lexicology is the part of linguistic which studies words. This may
include their nature and function as symbol, their meaning, the
relationship of their meaning to epistemology in general, and the
rules of their composition from smaller elements (morphemes such
as the English -ed marker for past or un- for negation; and
phonemes as basic sound units). Lexicology also involves relations
between words, which may involve semantics (for example, love vs.
affection), derivation (for example, fathom vs. unfathomably),
usage and sociolinguistic distinctions (for example, flesh vs. meat),
and any other issues involved in analyzing the whole lexicon of a
language.

technical terms we have to comprehend,
such as :

7. Also lexicology has connections with
Phonetics. If we change the stress, we
change the meaning of the word and even
part of the speech: rEcord – recOrd,
cOment – comEnt; blackboard – black
board, blackbird – black bird.

8. One of the problems of lexicology is
stylistic characteristics. Stylistics
studies different stylistic styles. The
reflection of the style is in the text.
E.g. bookish style we often can find in
classical fiction or textbooks;
collocations – in speech.

9. Cultural Studies
And the last connection is with
Social Linguistics (Cultural
Studies): language is a part of the
culture, it’s a reflection of the
mentality of people. There are
some specific word combinations
and associations in every
language. E.g. professions:
kindness is associated with social
