Answer to everything:
NUCLEAR ENERGY
Just as many conventional thermal power
stations generate electricity by harnessing
the thermal energy released from burning fossil
fuels, nuclear power plants convert the energy
released from the nucleus of an atom via nuclear
fission that takes place in a nuclear reactor. The
heat is removed from the reactor core by a
cooling system that uses the heat to generate
steam, which drives a steam turbine connected to
a generator producing electricity.
9
Nuclear Power in India
• India has a flourishing and largely indigenous nuclear
power program and expects to have 14,600 MWe
nuclear capacity on line by 2020. It aims to supply
25% of electricity from nuclear power by 2050
• India has a vision of becoming a world leader in
nuclear technology due to its expertise in fast
reactors and thorium fuel cycle
10
PROBLEMS TODAY
• The 2015 edition of BP’s Energy Outlook projected
India’s energy production rising by 117% to 2035,
while consumption grows by 128%. The country’s
energy mix evolves very slowly over the next 22
years with fossil fuels accounting for 87% of
demand in 2035, compared with a global average of
81% (down from 92% today). Oil remains the
dominant fuel (36%) followed by gas (30%) and coal
(21%). CO2 emissions from energy consumption
increase by 115%.
11
A SMALL DEBATE
PROPONENTS SAY:
• that nuclear power is a sustainable
energy source that reduces carbon
emissions.
• increases energy security.
• produces virtually no conventional
air pollution.
• It has been estimated that there is
up to five billion years' worth of
uranium-238 for use in these power
plants.
• 2 million grams of oil or 3 million
grams of coal to equal the power
contained in 1 gram of uranium
fuel.
OPPONENTS SAY:
• nuclear power poses many threats
to people and the environment
• problems of processing, transport
and storage of radioactive nuclear
waste
• , the risk of nuclear weapons
proliferation and terrorism, as well
as health risks and environmental
damage from uranium mining
• serious nuclear accidents
• Critics do not believe that the risks
of using nuclear fission as a power
source can be fully offset through
the development of
new technology
12
Lets have a look in the near
future
13
30,000 drones are expected to be patrolling the skies of America by
2020.
In domestic U.S. airspace, they are deployed mainly for border and
counternarcotics surveillance, but also in a variety of other public
safety missions, such as disaster relief efforts, locating missing
climbers or hikers and combating forest fires
14
The first self-sufficient, car-free city in
mainland China
• The "Great City" is a sustainable, eco-friendly satellite city,
built on an approximately 3-square-kilometer site outside
Chengdu in Central China. This futuristic development,
completed in 2020 responds to the problem of overburdened
infrastructure in many of China's urban centres, without
contributing to the high energy consumption and carbon
emissions associated with suburban sprawl.
• the distance from any location in the city to any other is
walkable within 15 minutes, virtually eliminating the need for
automobiles.
• Great City uses 48% less energy, 58% less water, produces
89% less landfill waste and generates 60% less carbon than a
conventional development of similar population.
15
16
Feasibility of synthetic humans
• In 2010, scientists created the first
synthetic cell. Mycoplasma
laboratorium was an entirely new species
of bacterium, with a man-made set of
genetic code, placed on a synthetic
chromosome inside an empty cell. Using its
new "software", the cell could generate
protei.
• By 2056, the number of cells that can be
synthesised in a single organism is reaching
almost 100 trillion: equal to the total
number in the human body.Debates are
now occurring over "synthetic people"
entering the population. What rights and
freedoms would they have? Countless
moral, ethical and legal arguments are
raisedns and produce new cells
17
Can’t miss “superconductors”
• Futuristic ideas for the use of superconductors,
materials that allow electric current to flow
without resistance, are myriad: long-distance,
low-voltage electric grids with no transmission
loss; fast, magnetically levitated trains; ultra-
high-speed supercomputers; superefficient
motors and generators; inexhaustible fusion
energy – and many others, some in the
experimental or demonstration
stages.economical electricity source.
• “Among the most promising new materials for
future magnets are some of the high-
temperature superconductors,” says Sabbi.
“Unfortunately they’re very difficult to work
with.” One of the most promising of all is the
high-temperature superconductor Bi-2212
(bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide).
• Bi-2212 shows why: although it becomes
superconducting at 95 K
And chemists and physicists
have been looking for a
wonder material - a
superconductor that will work
at room temperature.
Perhaps you'll be the one to
find it!

Carbon Nanotubes
• Ridiculously Elastic Conductive Fibers for
Stretchable Circuits
I. It’s hard to know exactly how
technologists might use electrically
conductive fibers that can perform at a
high level even when stretched to 15
times their length. But it’s possible the
fibers, unveiled today by an international
group of researchers, could help open
new applications in robotics, find use in
exoskeletons, make their way into new
kinds of textiles, or bring power to sensor
arrays that monitor the structural health
of important curved surfaces like those
on the outside of aircraft
II. the creators of the new fibers say there is
still a need for better elastic conducting
materials to serve as wires, sensors, and
for use in deformable energy storage
devices and displays 19

IBM: Commercial Nanotube Transistors Are
Coming Soon
I. Chips made with nanotube
transistors, which could be five
times faster, should be ready
around 2020, says IBM.
II. Chip test: Each chip on this wafer
has 10,000 nanotube transistors on
it. IBM hopes to be able to put
billions of the devices on a single
chip soon after 2020
III. A project at IBM is now aiming to
have transistors built using carbon
nanotubes ready to take over from
silicon transistors soon after 2020.
IV. Nanotubes are the only technology
that looks capable of keeping the
advance of computer power from
slowing down, by offering a
practical way to make both smaller
and faster transistors

The A.F.A exoskeleton suit aim to increases firefighters’ performance in
walking ,running and carrying while high-rise fire frightening. A.F.A can
carry loads up to 91kg. The exo-suit is strapped over the firefighters’
clothing. The device transfers its weight, load directly to the ground, so
firefighters don’t bear the weight.
SCENARIO
On average, 15,500 high-rise fires occur per year. It causes
approx 60 people deaths, 930 injuries, and more than 200 million in
property loss.(NFINFIRS, 2002)
Thousands of people could be held in a skyscraper above the reach of
fire department aerial devices, once the fire is above the operational
reach of aerial ladder or elevating platforms the probability of rescuing
victims is almost zero.

  • 9. Answer to everything: NUCLEAR ENERGY Just as many conventional thermal power stations generate electricity by harnessing the thermal energy released from burning fossil fuels, nuclear power plants convert the energy released from the nucleus of an atom via nuclear fission that takes place in a nuclear reactor. The heat is removed from the reactor core by a cooling system that uses the heat to generate steam, which drives a steam turbine connected to a generator producing electricity. 9
  • 10. Nuclear Power in India • India has a flourishing and largely indigenous nuclear power program and expects to have 14,600 MWe nuclear capacity on line by 2020. It aims to supply 25% of electricity from nuclear power by 2050 • India has a vision of becoming a world leader in nuclear technology due to its expertise in fast reactors and thorium fuel cycle 10
  • 11. PROBLEMS TODAY • The 2015 edition of BP’s Energy Outlook projected India’s energy production rising by 117% to 2035, while consumption grows by 128%. The country’s energy mix evolves very slowly over the next 22 years with fossil fuels accounting for 87% of demand in 2035, compared with a global average of 81% (down from 92% today). Oil remains the dominant fuel (36%) followed by gas (30%) and coal (21%). CO2 emissions from energy consumption increase by 115%. 11
  • 12. A SMALL DEBATE PROPONENTS SAY: • that nuclear power is a sustainable energy source that reduces carbon emissions. • increases energy security. • produces virtually no conventional air pollution. • It has been estimated that there is up to five billion years' worth of uranium-238 for use in these power plants. • 2 million grams of oil or 3 million grams of coal to equal the power contained in 1 gram of uranium fuel. OPPONENTS SAY: • nuclear power poses many threats to people and the environment • problems of processing, transport and storage of radioactive nuclear waste • , the risk of nuclear weapons proliferation and terrorism, as well as health risks and environmental damage from uranium mining • serious nuclear accidents • Critics do not believe that the risks of using nuclear fission as a power source can be fully offset through the development of new technology 12
  • 13. Lets have a look in the near future 13
  • 14. 30,000 drones are expected to be patrolling the skies of America by 2020. In domestic U.S. airspace, they are deployed mainly for border and counternarcotics surveillance, but also in a variety of other public safety missions, such as disaster relief efforts, locating missing climbers or hikers and combating forest fires 14
  • 15. The first self-sufficient, car-free city in mainland China • The "Great City" is a sustainable, eco-friendly satellite city, built on an approximately 3-square-kilometer site outside Chengdu in Central China. This futuristic development, completed in 2020 responds to the problem of overburdened infrastructure in many of China's urban centres, without contributing to the high energy consumption and carbon emissions associated with suburban sprawl. • the distance from any location in the city to any other is walkable within 15 minutes, virtually eliminating the need for automobiles. • Great City uses 48% less energy, 58% less water, produces 89% less landfill waste and generates 60% less carbon than a conventional development of similar population. 15

  • 17. Feasibility of synthetic humans • In 2010, scientists created the first synthetic cell. Mycoplasma laboratorium was an entirely new species of bacterium, with a man-made set of genetic code, placed on a synthetic chromosome inside an empty cell. Using its new "software", the cell could generate protei. • By 2056, the number of cells that can be synthesised in a single organism is reaching almost 100 trillion: equal to the total number in the human body.Debates are now occurring over "synthetic people" entering the population. What rights and freedoms would they have? Countless moral, ethical and legal arguments are raisedns and produce new cells 17
  • 18. Can’t miss “superconductors” • Futuristic ideas for the use of superconductors, materials that allow electric current to flow without resistance, are myriad: long-distance, low-voltage electric grids with no transmission loss; fast, magnetically levitated trains; ultra- high-speed supercomputers; superefficient motors and generators; inexhaustible fusion energy – and many others, some in the experimental or demonstration stages.economical electricity source. • “Among the most promising new materials for future magnets are some of the high- temperature superconductors,” says Sabbi. “Unfortunately they’re very difficult to work with.” One of the most promising of all is the high-temperature superconductor Bi-2212 (bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide). • Bi-2212 shows why: although it becomes superconducting at 95 K And chemists and physicists have been looking for a wonder material - a superconductor that will work at room temperature. Perhaps you'll be the one to find it! 18
  • 19. Carbon Nanotubes • Ridiculously Elastic Conductive Fibers for Stretchable Circuits I. It’s hard to know exactly how technologists might use electrically conductive fibers that can perform at a high level even when stretched to 15 times their length. But it’s possible the fibers, unveiled today by an international group of researchers, could help open new applications in robotics, find use in exoskeletons, make their way into new kinds of textiles, or bring power to sensor arrays that monitor the structural health of important curved surfaces like those on the outside of aircraft II. the creators of the new fibers say there is still a need for better elastic conducting materials to serve as wires, sensors, and for use in deformable energy storage devices and displays 19
  • 20. 20 IBM: Commercial Nanotube Transistors Are Coming Soon I. Chips made with nanotube transistors, which could be five times faster, should be ready around 2020, says IBM. II. Chip test: Each chip on this wafer has 10,000 nanotube transistors on it. IBM hopes to be able to put billions of the devices on a single chip soon after 2020 III. A project at IBM is now aiming to have transistors built using carbon nanotubes ready to take over from silicon transistors soon after 2020. IV. Nanotubes are the only technology that looks capable of keeping the advance of computer power from slowing down, by offering a practical way to make both smaller and faster transistors

  • 22. 22 The A.F.A exoskeleton suit aim to increases firefighters’ performance in walking ,running and carrying while high-rise fire frightening. A.F.A can carry loads up to 91kg. The exo-suit is strapped over the firefighters’ clothing. The device transfers its weight, load directly to the ground, so firefighters don’t bear the weight. SCENARIO On average, 15,500 high-rise fires occur per year. It causes approx 60 people deaths, 930 injuries, and more than 200 million in property loss.(NFINFIRS, 2002) Thousands of people could be held in a skyscraper above the reach of fire department aerial devices, once the fire is above the operational reach of aerial ladder or elevating platforms the probability of rescuing victims is almost zero.
