The Leather Flight Chair Enclosed Olbarwulf
The leather flight chair enclosed Olbarwulf in its embrace like an old friend which, all things
considered, it might as well be. The blaring klaxons, the stamping flight boots, and the incessant
shouting filtered through the cockpit canopy. All were familiar to him. And yet, even after all these
years of deployment, the constant din still was still unnerving. Exhaling slowly, Olbarwulf leaned
back, feeling through his coarse mane, feeling for the socket at the base of his neck. When did I last
go under? he queried, touching the depression, thumbing the optic and data input cables. He needed
to go under, to feel the Thunderbolt as a part of him, to fly. He yearned for that kind of freedom. But
it would have to wait. His co–pilot was late, and a failure to launch fully crewed would land
Olbarwulf directly in the sights of a commissar. The sounds of labored breathing and the unsteady
clump of flight boots on the walkway to Olbarwulf's right announced the belated arrival of his co–
pilot, Gustaf Krienger. One of the heavily persecuted Flavix, Gustaf's life as a co–pilot was harsh
and violent, characterised by the latticework of scars stretching down from his large, dusky eyes to
his whiskered cheeks, physical reminders of the Navy's long–held place as a bastion of conservative
thinking. Olbarwulf held immense respect for the man's abilities as a navigator, but any attempt to
show camaraderie in public with an alien was tantamount to suicide, so he kept trap shut and his

The Battle of Adolescence in The Catcher in the Rye by...
Adolescence is stressful and confusing to say the least, and is a time in one's life where one begins
to discover who they are and what they want as they transition into the adult world. In J.D.
Salinger's classic American novel, The Catcher in the Rye, the main character Holden, is a
downhearted teenage boy used by Salinger in order to portray universal themes to the reader
including isolation, loss of innocence, and the phoniness of the adult world. Through Salinger's use
of symbolism, the reader is able to ponder Holden and his struggles as he embarks into adulthood in
order to come to a deeper understanding of the themes Salinger's symbols represent. One of the most
widely recognized symbols of the book is Holden's curiosity about the ducks in Central Park.
Holden longs for answers to his question of where the ducks go in the winter. "The ducks. Do you
know by any chance? I mean does somebody come around in a truck or something and take them
away, or do they fly away by themselves–go south or something? (107). As the ice freezes over the
pond and winter comes, the ducks leave, able to escape the brutal winter and the ice for a more
pleasant, warmer climate to the south. Holden longs to avoid being apart of the adult world that is
engulfed with phoniness, but is unable to understand how to do so. "The fish don't go no place. They
stay right where they are, the fish. Right in the goddamn lake... Their bodies take in nutrition and all,
right through the goddamn seaweed and

Essay about Hellfire and Damnation
Hellfire and Damnation Looking back on my childhood, I have many memories shrouded in fear
and self–loathing. I was raised in the Baptist church. My mother and grandmother made sure that I
attended church every Sunday morning. My grandmother was from the mid–west. She carried her
strict Bible belt background with her as she traveled west with my grandfather. The many lessons I
learned from my grandmother and the minister at our church played a big part in how I began to see
the world and my place in it.
It would seem, looking back now, that the whole basis for my teachings during those early years was
fear. I had the most intense fear of going to Hell. The only thing one had to know about Hell was
that it was the place where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We were rotten to the core. We did not deserve God's love or anyone's love, yet God loved us
anyway. That made God a really great guy.
My interpretation of this particular sermon was that I was a horrible person not worthy of love. I
was a sinner and I was going to Hell. I would cry myself to sleep at night because I was so sure that
I would be one of those lost souls for all of eternity. The minister talked of redemption. All I had to
do to be saved and get into heaven was confess my sins and ask for forgiveness.
I was sure, however, that I had far too many sins to be forgiven; besides, I wasn't really sorry for
most of my "sins." I could not feel bad about questioning my parents' and the church's authority.
Most of the time it seemed that they contradicted themselves or just didn't make any sense at all. I
had a very hard time digesting the teachings of the church that included both a God who would
demand killing and sacrifice and the same God who would love and protect his children. Due to the
teachings I received and with so many people being in agreement, I just figured they must be right
on some level, which made me the odd man out and the one destined to pay with my soul.
All I had to do was to take a look at the Ten Commandments to see that I was not doing so well in
the eyes of the Lord. "You must not Murder," I hadn't done that. "You must not commit adultery." I
didn't even know what that meant. "You must not

Personal Narrative On Catcher In The Rye
IF YOU really want to know, the first thing you'd probably want to hear about is what happened to
me while I was at that goddam place and what they did to me, and what happened between my
parents and me and all that crap, but I'd rather not go into it. To tell the truth, that stuff made no
difference on me. And besides, my parents would be in way over their heads if I told you anything
personal about them. They're as touchy as hell, they are. What I will tell you about is what happened
after I left that goddam place, after that sonuvabitch finally let me out.
The day I left that goddam place, that one psychoanalyst kept on bringing up the subject of school.
"Try hard, son. You've got a bright mind! Learn to use it! Be a good boy and go back ... Show more

I hung up, but not before I told Jane that I was coming home.
I got home, and there was my mother, crying. That was helluva sight. That was the only time I'd
ever see my mother cry. In 26 goddam years, that was the only time. She didn't even cry at Allie's
goddam funeral.
"Holden!" I turned around. Jane Gallagher was running towards me. She looked great as hell. "Oh,
Holden! It's been so long! I've missed you!"
I gave her a kiss on the cheek. I probably would've done more, but I was too jittery. "When'd Phoebe
go missimg?" I was getting really nervous.
"Well, I heard the poilce here early on this morning. Holden, you should really talk to your mother.
You're the only person who can calm her down...and you're probably the only person who can figure
out where Phoebe is."
I didn't want to, but I talked to my mother. For Jane, though. I felt like I owed her. I don't know why.
I was a madman, I really was.
I don't want go over the whole damn conversation again, but my mother pretty much just told me
that Phoebe hadn't been kidnapped, like I'd thought, she'd actually run away. I was mad as hell when
I heard that, but I wasn't much surprised. Phoebe's a smart kid.

A Few Miles South Of Soledad, The Salinas River
A few miles south of Soledad, the Salinas River drops in close to the hillside bank and runs deep and
green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight
before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the
strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees– willows
fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter 's
flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool.
On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great
skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening,
and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of 'coons, and with the spread pads of dogs
from the ranches, and with the split–wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark.
There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys coming
down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come wearily
down from the highway in the evening to jungle–up near water. In front of the low horizontal limb
of a giant sycamore there is an ash pile made by many fires; the limb is worn smooth by men who
have sat on it.
Evening of a hot day started the little wind to moving among the leaves. The shade climbed up the
hills toward the top. On

Descriptive Essay About My Best Friend
After being taken back to the unit, the kids were at lunch, so I felt relieved. If you haven't realized
by now, my relief is always temporary. I was strip searched and taken off all of my medications that
eased me due to doctor's orders, he wanted me on a clean slate. I sat in an all white room with
blinding blue chairs that were drilled into the ground, a television behind plexus–glass, and a table
built onto the wall. I didn't know when I had first arrived this room would become familiar and a
part of my everyday life. My roommate became my best friend. She held me when I cried, played
with my hair, and told me how wonderful I was. I didn't the same for her: when she would have a
break down in our bathroom, I went in, turned the light off, held her, and she would cry her heart
out. She wasn't like that though, she was such an aggressive and angry person, but to me, she was
the sweetheart who loved to splatter paint on a blank canvas, create a masterpiece in her journal, and
that had an odd obsession with fuzzy socks. She was stunning. Her milky way, caramel colored skin
that was soft to the touch always glowed. She has these drop–dead gorgeous eyes that were an odd
brown, that looked green in the lighting, but in the center she had red bursting out like fire into the
cool, muddy waves. Her hair was a curly, beautiful disaster. I loved waking up to her wet head and it
took her twenty minutes to get it styled, even if it was just a pony–tail. She also had this great

DACA Damnation
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program (DACA) has helped stimulate the United States
financially; by canceling it the Trump Administration has doomed our economy. Lawmakers have
quite a task ahead of them as they try to traverse the tumultuous territory that is the DACA
cancelation. However, one of the largest, if not the largest, problems that this move has created is the
threat it poses to the nation's economy. Bombastically, the Trump Administration made a move that
seemed to be supported by its followers. Yet, further analysis of the cancelation seems to greatly
cripple the United States, estimating that the nation stands to lose $215 billion if the former DACA
recipients are deported.
In January of 2017 the CATO Institute, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Allusion In I Am Legend
Plot Summary
In the novella I Am Legend by Richard Matheson, Robert is the last human on Earth that has been
plagued by a disease that turns humans into vampires. This infection has ended with Neville alone in
a house to fend and survive, in an undisclosed area of Los Angeles. It is mentioned several times
through the novella that bombs could have caused the mutation of a disease and constant sandstorms
attribute to the spreading of the infection throughout the areas of Los Angeles. In order to fend off
the blood sucking vampires, Neville sets up perimeters of garlic, and mirrors to repel the vampires
getting closer to his house. Additionally, Neville installs lights and boards his windows so the vamps
can't get in without a fight. All of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates an image of a trapped Robin on an island being given answers by Santa by sleigh. What
it really means, is that Neville, once on a hopeless island of despair, now has answers to his
problems that he is facing. The author refers to Santa Claus because he is known to come to town
and bring gifts, but instead, he brings answers to Neville. In addition, it refers to Robin Crusoe a
character that was once trapped on a deserted island for a long period of time before being saved and
getting trapped again. As is Neville, alone and trapped in a world where vampires surround him

Solitude Essay
"No man is an island." This famous quotation explains the nature of man as a social being. It is truly
a fact that human beings cannot exist in isolation. They need to be interdependent with each other in
order to survive. This interdependence is needed because a human being alone will not be able to fill
his own social needs, and his material necessities came from other people as well. All acts of society
such as sex, love, and dependence are essential for the survival of any species. Interaction and
socialization is the only way to prevent people from isolation, from solitude.
The last words in One Hundred Years of Solitude are: races condemned to one hundred years of
solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth. These words ... Show more content on

To be alone, forgotten, and to remain in solitude is their fate and destiny.
Geographical Solitude. One form of solitude is shown geographically. Jose Arcadio Buendia shouts,
"God damn it! Macondo is surrounded by water in all sides." This shows that the even the setting of
the novel is in isolation. This detail may seem to be unimportant, but this reflects the situation that
the characters in Macondo are in. Being geographically isolated, the people in Macondo will never
learn anything more than what are in their reach. Because of this consequence, their society will
never be able to progress beyond their resources. When Jose Arcadio Buendia and his men found out
that Macondo is surrounded by water in all sides, Jose Arcadio Buendia laments to his wife, "We'll
never get anywhere. We're going to rot our lives away here without receiving the benefit of science."
Interaction with other societies would have let them advance beyond their present condition. The
very reason why Jose Arcadio Buendia and his other friends take the expedition is to find a place
where they will be able to know more about the great things and inventions, and to open a way that
would put Macondo in contact with these great inventions. This idea is inspired by the new
inventions that the gypsies display in Macondo. The effort to find other places where Macondo will
be able to be in contact with other towns is also an effort by the people to release themselves from
solitude, and to put an end to

The Book of Love
Andrew's eyes flicked up, catching sight of her face. He swallowed, forcing his heart to not fully
pound straight out of his chest. He shoved his chair back, kicking off with his feet. Standing up his
eyes, a bright blue caught between a clear gray based blue and a weirdly vibrant electric blue, found
her face. And that wall, that steel strong wall he'd built around his heart and emotion came tumbling
down. Crashing in a haze of love, hate and anger. Years of work, undone in seconds just by looking
at her. Andrew's eyes found her nut brown ones. "Olivia." he spoke, his voice thick on his tongue.
Her face said it all. Regret for coming her. Pain from seeing him again. And something else even his
years of profiler training couldn't seem to place, a first for the FBI Agent. He paused to eye the
bullpen before he lead her into the hallway of the building. Tan walls stared back at him as he
crossed his arms ove his chest. "It's been what, eleven years since you left me?" He spoke, his voice
cold. Her eyes blinked, her head titled to the side. "Eleven and a half almost to the date. Techcally

It was the summer of my senior year. My dad had hauled my family to a little country called

beautiful country. Food was huge while were over there. Half of them I couldn't pronounce, and
fruits that would smell worse coming out than going in. I was missing American food so bad by the
time to go home. While we were there my brother and father had gotten sick, I had not. They had a
little stomach aches that were nothing compared to what was to become of me. The last night there,
a little boy asked "what do you miss most about America?". I said the food of course. Food there

to board our flight I felt better. Knowing it wasn't going to be a fun flight, we got into our seats.

Catcher In The Rye Should Not Be Banned Essay
The Catcher in The Rye is one of the most banned books in America across schools, libraries, and
book stores, but it should not be as looked down upon as it is. It is banned because partly because of
all of the violence and the bad language it uses. Many parents or teachers do not want children to be
exposed to those kinds of things so they try to shield them from books such as The Catcher in the
Rye. Also, some schools do not want kids having the book because Holden is seen as a rebel
because he is constantly getting kicked out of schools because he does not put forth the effort.
Parents and schools do not want their children to get the idea that it is ok or even normal for kids to
approach school the way Holden does. But, The Catcher in The Rye should not be banned from
libraries, schools, or book stores because it shows teenagers how not to act, the importance of
friends and family, and that children should not be in a rush to grow up. Holden is constantly
breaking rules and getting himself into trouble. Whether it is picking a fight with his roommate, "I
tried to sock him, with all of my might, right smack in the toothbrush, so it would split his goddam
throat open." (Salinger 49) or hiring a prostitute, "Just a throw. Okay, what room ya in? ... Twelve

loneliness. Finally, The Catcher and the Rye keeps children from "going over the cliff" and makes

Life Story : The Story Of Love In My Life
I've been dying to tell people my life story. Like I keep having heart to hearts with people i barely
know. I speak and my heart over flows. Things have really been hard for me this year. especially
with being in all these weddings. One thing keeps coming up. Why are you single? I feel like being
this old the world is constantly judging me for not being married or in love with someone. Honestly,
I have been looking down on myself for it. I've been thinking what's wrong with me. Why am I so
lonely? Why do I feel so tragic for being single. Things only got worse when my ex came back into
my life for a couple months. I honestly felt so stupid and shitty the whole time. Things were so
awkward between us. He would never look my way. We only said a couple words to each other
nothing meaningful. It was stupid that I thought that the next time we saw each other that we could
be friends. But what did I expect when I am the one who ended things. I never wanted to end things.
I never wanted to hurt him or stop being his friend. Things just end this way, In no way was I trying
to be a bitch about the whole thing. It wasn't working. We couldn't get on the same page. Worst of
all being in a relationship triggered my anxiety and depression and there no way I could explain that
to him. Even though I tried. For some reason only depressed people understand depressed people. I
don't understand why it has to be that way, but Its just that way. But anyway at the end of the day I
could get him to understand and I couldn't save us. I've beaten myself up over that everyday. I don't
know how he ever felt, but I felt like I was some evil villain trying to destroy his happiness even
though I know I wasn't. I was just trying to save myself and it suck that in order to save myself I had
to hurt someone I loved. This is all some much and I don't even know how to let go of it all. I used
to be so mad at him. I hated him forever thing, but I hated me more. I hate the fact that I could hold
on to the only person that thought I was special.
You know what's funny all my life all I thought was just need to find someone who liked me back
and we would be together forever. How naive was I? It simply doesn't work that way does it? These

America 's Second Civil War
I pulled the trigger to my gun. The bullet went directly into the shoulder of the Boss. I hit the other

Let 's fast forward two years later. I 'm married. And I 'm also serving my last few days in the U.S.

Just my luck, on my last mission of service I killed the man responsible for America 's second civil

stop him. He got in the helicopter, and with my VKS Vykhlop Sniper Rifle I managed to pick off the

End Of Watch Analysis
End of watch is a film about two cops as the do their job accross LA.
The movie wastes no time at all getting us into the action. Right away we are thrown onto a
dashcam that is fixed to the hood of the car. All over the screen we see letters and numbers
something we should expect from a dashcam of a police car. If you have seen a few episodes of cops
this shouldnt be anything new to you. With the car swerving left and right and houses drifting away
quickly there is a real sense of speed and danger and maybe even motion sickness. The dash cam
also adds another layer of immersion to the scene. There is no music playing unless you want to
count the sounds of sirens, but I would find it hard to dance to that even if I knew how to dance in
the first place. Even the sound quality when dashcams are being used is downgraded to something
more believable since not all dash cams are equped with shotgun mics and deadcats. At times the

The shaky cam making everything tense and on edge just like you'd imagine a police officer would

camera almost on the floor pointing upward at the two officers as they huddle. The shot lets us get a
good look at their faces and see how nervous they actually are. When the fight begins the camera
almost feels like it's being held by a man holding the camera with two chopsticks. The fight is very
unorchestrated and flows very naturally. It wouldn't be far–fetched to think the director threw the

So did he, which was his mistake. I quick glanced back at him and noticed two things. His eyes were

Analysis Of Holden In Catcher In The Rye, By J. D. Salinger
A painful experience can overshadow all aspects of a persons life. In the bildungsroman, The
Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, there are several examples of this. In this novel, Holden who is
the protagonist struggles with exemplifying his individuality and isolating himself, not having the
ability to control the way he acts and trying to protect others such as his little sister Phoebe from
growing up and attempting to preserve their innocence. By the end of the book, the tragic death of
Holden Caulfield's little brother Allie had impacted the way Holden acts in his everyday life. Ever
since the death of Holden's little brother Allie, Holden has begun to alienate himself from others and
wants to be different from everybody else. He expresses his want for individuality by wearing his
red hunting hat numerous times throughout the book. Usually, Holden would wear his hat with the
peak towards the back but "[he] pulled the peak of [his] hunting hat around to the front all of a
sudden, for a change" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It drove me damn near crazy. I thought how old Phoebe and all the other little kids would see it, and
now they'd wonder What the hell it meant, and then finally some dirty kid would tell them–all
cockeyed, naturally what it meant, and how'd they all think about it and maybe even worry about for
a couple days. Holden wants to guard the genuine qualities Phoebe still acquires considering she's
still a little girl. Basically, as long as Phoebe does not get unsheltered into the adult world where
Holden describes as being filled with phonies, she will remain pure and naïve, just as Allie did since
he never got the chance. This may be because he never got to spend as much time as he wanted with
Allie and he mourns Allies death constantly throughout the book. So to compensate the void he has
in his heart, he does not want to end up losing Phoebe as well to the world of adult

The Chrysalids Character Analysis
Society's interpretation of normal is cruel and injustice. In John Wyndham, The Chrysalids, is a
fiction novel that portrays a post–apocalyptic society causing Sophie Wender to be an outsider
because of her sixth toe. Sophie is a deviation with six toes and David is her only friend that knows
about it. Sophie must now flee Waknuk before their society catches her and her family. Years later,
Sophie is recognized and behaves differently from her childhood to an adult. Sophie's character is
developing into a dreadful figure. Her life as an outcast makes her a depressed, distraught and a
lonely character. Before Sophie flees Waknuk, she is an innocent child, however, she transforms into
a depressed outcast who is willing to kill. Sophie is depressed because she has nothing to gain or
lose after she is being sterilized. Sophie is desolated when she states this "'I'd have given him babies
gladly, if I could (...) I–oh, why do they do that to us? Why didn't they kill me? It would have been
kinder than this'" (Wyndham 167). It is clear Sophie is expressing anger due to not being able to
reproduce for Gordon. Sophie explains that it will be more pleasing for her to be killed than
sterilized. Sophie also describes her sadness in the fringes that the only person who cares for her is
Gordon and can not bless him with a child. Undoubtfully, Sophie's depression also changes her
actions through willing to kill. Sophie's demonstration of murder is said "'Rosalind, and Petra, too,
watched silently in horrid fascination as Sophie scooped a bowlful of water from the bucket to wash
the blood off her arms and clean the knife'" (Wyndham 175). This quote explains that after Sophie
rescued Petra and Rosalind, she begins washing blood off her knife as a sign of murder. Since
Sophie left Waknuk, the only damaging actions she committed is throwing a rock at Alan,
meanwhile, in the Fringes, Sophie can kill without indication, whereas life in the Fringes is about
survival. Overall, Sophie changes is affecting her actions and emotions. Additionally, Sophie as a
child is isolated and cautious due to her sixth toe. Nevertheless, she is now distraught and confident
to display her entire body. Sophie as a youth is cautious of her deviation

Am I Mentally Insane?-Personal Narrative
This can't be happening. Why me? I know something is wrong with me, but mentally insane? Are
you joking me? When the doctor told me the news, everything I knew became a lie. I already don't
fit in at school, what will happen when everyone figures out I'm crazy? My mom keeps telling me
everything will be okay, but how are things going to be okay? How am I supposed to act, think, and
speak without being judged? Fifteen years I've thought I was some–what normal, up until today. I
don't want this. I never asked for this. I'm not the person who I thought I was. I don't want anyone to
ever figure out what is wrong. "Thomas it's time for dinner," My mom yells. I sit in my seat with my
mouth watering, excited to devour the meal in front of me. "Please pass the salt," she asks. "God
damn it Mom! I'm using the salt, can you not tell?" I scream back. I don't know what came over me.
I regretted it right after I said it. I can't control my actions. Anything I think, I say. All my emotions
are magnified. My highs are extremely high, and my lows are unbearably low. I apologize and she
just looks at me with a blank expression. I see a look I've never seen: she is worried. She is nervous

Sid's Silent Whisperings
There were moments where I would talk normally and gaze at the opals in my hands. Often, a smile
would appear over the damn dirt stains of my face. But at times, a rush of water would overwhelm
my eyes and I would let them flow continuously until I became bloody unconscious. "It was a dark
foggy day when I came upon these bright green and blue opals," I mutter as I began reminiscing
about the last thirty years. I stumbled upon the strangest opals that appeared to glow, only realizing
that later, it was no opals, cause' no damn opals like that had stared at me before. As the fog started
to clear up, the appearance of a little girl my age stepped towards. "Hey, you!" I shouted, which
didn't seem to be loud enough to be heard, but still, she stumbled to make her way towards me. I
notice how bruised and lost she must have been and with her opal eyes, she can see that I was too.
We walked through the black darkness of Lightning Ridge for what felt like a bloody eternity, where
every second felt like a minute and every minute felt like a damn hour. The thought of having no
place to go made the massive walk silent and still. There were times when she gaze my way and
mutter a question now and then. I would tell her about my life, wandering to places trying to escape
the abusement at home. "That why you bruised up?" She asked as her opal eyes beamed at me. "Yes,

Duty And Damnation In Antigone
Antigone: Duty or Damnation
Daily we are faced with the perpetual issue of good versus evil? Right versus wrong, all the while
attempting to find a safe middle ground on which to stand so we may distance ourselves from
distasteful situations. Humanity often finds itself standing idly by, allowing others to make the hard
decisions, letting apathy take over and being blindly lead. Nevertheless, for some this blind faith is
not always a viable option
Brave, doomed Antigone goes through many emotions and struggles heavily under her burden,
knowing from the beginning what she must, and will do. Our focal point however is centered on
King Creon and Antigone concentrating on her reluctance to obey his decree that she views as
unjust. King Creon is

The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men
In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment to determine a
person's innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is
determined based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that judgment
in Twelve Angry Men is addressed by the jury who think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing
the death sentence.
It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are
placed in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic
experience.
The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female's input upon what judgment
should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone against one
another affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is a fast process
and is addressed in the drama as Rose (121) states that, "7th Juror, Listen, I'll tell you something. I'm
a little sick of this whole thing already. All this yakkin's gettin' us nowhere so I'm going to break it
up here. I'm changing my vote to not guilty. 11th Juror, What kind of man are you? You have sat
here and voted guilty with everyone else because there are some baseball tickets burning a hole in
your pocket".
The drama is now directed away from the accused of murder and now towards Juror 7 that shows
irony towards the relevance of importance. It is from the example above we see

Literary Voices Of Martin Amis
Martin Amis, who turns out to be a celebrity after the controversies and criticism he met with over
his personal life and the alleged gender– bias, is one of the most significant literary voices of the
contemporary period. His narratives, oscillating between realism and postmodernism, present the
bitter truths of modern capitalist society. British government under the rule of Margaret Thatcher
shifted its interest from the progress of the Welfare state to privatization of business, marketing and
consumerism which gave a rapid increase to commercialization. As the government policies change,
media and advertising began to aggrandize free market and individual entrepreneurship where greed
has become the prime motive. Amis deals with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But this deceptive and mendacious image aims at befooling people because it can be obtained only
through its false signifiers. Money is one of the best examples presenting such devastating and self–
deceiving impact of modern celebrity culture on human beings. Image conscious people, in order to
attain affluence, high status and fame which are only appearance not actual success, depend on the
conspicuous consumption of materialistic signifiers. The concepts of material consumption, the false
appearance and money are interrelated. Commenting on the source of inspiration, Peter Childs
remarks that "it suggests through the increasingly intense popular cults of celebrity and fame, to the
commercial greed of 1980s" (44).
The novel reflects the spirit of the Zeitgeist. It premises on the loss of self, integrity, authenticity and
self– restrain. As a critique of capitalism, it satirizes the growing interest in free market and
privatization. The tempting and inducing strategies of free market economy have largely changed
people's lives and their way of thinking. In the absence of self– faith, morality and authenticity, the
true value of life declined in the bleak world of late capitalist Western civilization.
Set in 1981 and published in 1984, Money is a story of John Self, the narrator and protagonist whose
life is made of "fast food, sex shows, space games, slot machines, video nasties, nude mags, drink,
pubs, fighting, television, handjobs" (67).

Congo’s Era of Damnation
In the year 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium imperialized the Independent State of the Congo.
Leopold set the area up under his own personal rule. His rule was an extremely negative and very
unwanted thing that plunged the area into an era of damnation.
The early history of the congo really starts in 150 AD. The indigenous immigrants to the Congo,
who were most likely Pygmies, had migrated from the northern area to the savannah regions in the
south now called DROC, or Democratic Republic of the Congo (Clarke, John H). These immigrants
brought agriculture, and made iron tools. Moving ahead to 1482, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo
Cão visited the Congo River marking the first ever known European contact with the region. Henry
Stanley, a British explorer is commanded to proclaim King Leopold's rule over the Congo in 1879.
This is followed by European powers at the Berlin Conference who recognised Leopold's claim to
the Congo basin and he announces the establishment of the Congo Free State headed by himself
(Democratic Republic of...), thus beginning Leopold's era of tyranny. Leopold's purpose of
controlling the Congo was for the vast amount of resources such as ivory, rubber, and copper. In
1887, J.B. Dunlop's invention of inflatable, rubber, bicycle tires and the rapid increase in the
popularity of the automobile, caused the demand for rubber to increase dramatically. Now sensing
an opportunity, Leopold issued three decrees in 1881 and 1882 collectively saying that

Damnation In Hamlet
Hamlet is looking for ways to kill his uncle, King Claudius, to avenge his father's death. No doubt,
he is determined to murder his uncle not only for the sake of his father, but also for the absolute
revulsion he feels towards his uncle's incestuous relationship with his mother. Afterward, he is
delayed on his plans several times due to, shame, fear and a sense of honor.
Moreover; Hamlet has doubts about his father's "ghost" true intentions. He often wonders if the
ghost has evil intent towards him and he is ashamed he might be being used by the entity. "The
ghost I saw may be the devil and the devil has the power to assume a pleasing disguise, and so he
may be taking advantage of my weakness and sadness to bring about my damnation" (II.II.565–
569). For this reason Hamlet sets out to do a play to prove both his uncle reaction and the ghost's
effectively delaying once more his uncle's assassination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When Hamlet kills his uncle he wants for him to suffer not to live happily ever after, and he
expresses this apprehension eloquently; "I could do it easily now. He's praying now. And now I'll do

I just did him a favor" (III.III.77–83). In conclusion, Hamlet has a strong sense of honor and he will
want to do his father justice in an honorable way perhaps through a common duel instead of a
sneaky murder, but he also wants to make sure he is not making a mistake. He is also under the
impression that Claudius might express remorse for his cruel deed. He openly voices this idea as;
""Hum. I have heard that guilty creatures sitting at a play have, by the very cunning of the scene,
been struck so to the soul that presently they have proclaimed their malefactions" (II.II.

Damnation Reflection
In the film, Damnation, the narrator displays the impact of dams in the United States, the minimal
benefits and detrimental consequences to the environment. The film provided necessary information
of dams that allows individuals to make an informative decision on which side of the argument they
want to take. The film positively moved me, especially during interviews where those affected by
dams specified their individual experiences. The film provided three different perspectives on the
impact that dams have, which consist of the anthropocentric, ecocentric, and religious viewpoints to
help viewers take a side on the matter at hand.
The purpose of the film is to inform and educate people about the impact dams have on the

Ben and Travis trying to kayak through a dam really helped show how devoted they are to the cause
and put themselves in harms way in order for this to get across to people. A second reason I felt
touched by the film is how they got individuals who have been personally hurt by dams to interview
for the picture, providing their two senses on the issue and what they have experienced before and
after dams were built. Lastly, the statistics and data provided during the film really help to put a
number figure on how dams have impacted individuals and the environment; by the number of
deaths that have occurred do to breaks in dams and by the number of fish that have been depleted in
rivers and streams because they can no longer make the journey back to spawn.

Orange Damnation Of The Vietnam's Orange Damnation
Vietnam's Orange Damnation In recent history, there has been an abundance of chemical warfare
that caused harm to society, nature, and immeasurable damage post war. To be more specific, the
Vietnam war was one of the most noticeable conflicts that was destructive to both parties involved
through chemical warfare, not only to the soldiers but also the environment. During the 1960s
through to current day, the chemical pollution of the many mangrove forests near local villages led
to health problems for the local Vietnamese people and the American soldiers. Located in Vietnam,
mangrove forest was one of the main sources of vegetation for enemy soldiers during the war. To
decrease enemy morale, the chemical herbicide, known as Agent Orange, was made by the U.S. to
poison their crops and starve the enemy troops. The highly potent Agent Orange created many
unintended problems for the locals as well as the troops because of the catastrophic damages to the
landscape and continues to affect the locals to this day. For example, polluted crops and farm lands,
Bio–accumulation of Agent orange, and chronic medical problems. During the Vietnam war, the
American government used several dangerous herbicides, the most controversial was known as

The Great Depression: A Dark Time In American History
The Great Depression The Great Depression was a dark time in American history that lasted
from1929–1939. It began after the Stock Market crashed on October 19, 1929. According to A
Biography of America: FDR– The Great Depression, "It was the deepest and longest lasting
economic downturn in American History" (A Biography of America). As a result of the Great
Depression one out of every four Americans was out of work. The Great Depression resulted in a
life for Americans that was plagued by overproduction and under–consumption of products, starving
families were forced into bread and soup lines, and thousands of agricultural workers became
migratory workers in order to survive. In Oscar Ameringer's, The Plague of Plenty, we see just how
devastating overproduction and under–consumption of products was during the years of the Great
Depression. Ameringer observed many things while he traveled across the country. In Montana,
citizens reported to him that, "thousands of bushels of wheat were left in the field uncut on account
of its low price that hardly paid for the harvesting". In Oregon he saw "thousands of bushels of
apples rotting in the orchards". Yet as Ameringer reports, "At the ... Show more content on

Damnation of a Canyon
The Damnation of a Canyon By Edward Abbey Not many people know of the used–to–be 150–mile
excursion that the Glen Canyon had to offer. Not many people know how to sail a raft down a river
for a week. Not many people know how to interact with nature and the animals that come with it.
We seem to come from a world that is dependent on time and consumed in money. Edward Abbey is
what you would call an extreme environmentalist. He talks about how it was an environmental
disaster to place a dam in which to create Lake Powell, a reservoir formed on the border of Utah and
Arizona. He is one of the few that have actually seen the way Glen Canyon was before they changed
it into a reservoir. Today, that lake is used by over a million ... Show more content on

He seems to argue the ‘wheelchair ethos of the wealthy, upper–middle class American slob'. Well,
excuse the people who were born paralyzed from the waist down, and would like to experience the
forces nature in its natural state of beauty and grace. He seems to generalize the typical population
of people who visit Lake Powell on an unscientific basis, upper–middle class American slobs. So
does that mean that a lower class family doesn't have the money to do such recreational activity?
And that we are slobs because we like to view nature in its own environment? One last point in
which should be heard is that, Edward Abbey states that now that the river is closed up people
cannot get a raft, spend about forty dollars, give up 7–10 days, and rely only on the goodness of
fresh catfish just to float down a river. In today's society people don't have time. We would rather
spend the hundreds of dollars to get a nice speedboat, buy real food, and only take maybe the
weekend to enjoy the great outdoors. We enjoy the freshness of a shower everyday, going to the
bathroom with flushable device, eating food with the right bit of garlic taste, in other words the
comfort of home. Even if they did take down the dam and offer such rafting trips, do you honestly
think a person could leave their cell phone at home? In conclusion, I do think that Edward Abbey

depression which Holden reveals to the reader while at Pencey Prep. For example while writing a
essay for Stradlater, he reflects on how after Allie, Holden's brother died, Holden "slept in the
garage, the night he died and [he] broke all the god damn window." (39). This reaction to inflict pain
on himself is evidence that the loss triggered severe emotional disturbances. Holden isolates himself
after a tragic event proving Allie's death is the cause for his loneliness. Also, while alone in his dorm
at Pencey writing a composition for Stradlater his roommate, Holden " couldn't think of a room or a
house to describe... [he] wrote about [his] brother Allie's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After Holden arrives in New York and takes a cab to his hotel, he "damn near gave my kid sister
Phoebe a buzz, though. I certainly felt like talking to her on the phone. Somebody with sense and
all," (66). Holden wants to talk to Phoebe as he has been isolated from her and feels because she is
someone who he has a strong connection with, that she will make him less depressed shown by him
saying that she had sense. Also while Holden is in his hotel room in New York, after his prostitute
leaves, he "felt depressed," then he began "talking, sort of out loud, to Allie," (98). Allie's death
made Holden isolated form someone who was close to him. Him attempting to talk to Allie shows
how his loneliness and depression was caused by his isolation because he wants to try to reconnect
with Allie to end his loneliness. While on his way to a bar from the hotel, Holden describes New
York as making him feel "lonesome and depressed" and how he wished "[he] could go home and
shoot the bull with old Phoebe," (81). Holden feels lonely and depressed in New York because of his
isolation from Phoebe, someone he loves. This is proved by how he describes that he wishes he
could go home and talk with her for a while. After getting to New York, Holden's feelings still
follow him as he feels lonely and depressed thinking about Phoebe and wanting to see

12 Angry Men And Friday Night Lights Essay
Don't come back to church next week. We don't want to take our chances, associating ourselves with
witchcraft. Stop overthinking it, just vote 'guilty' already. You better bring your A game Friday
night! Harsh standards and scary realities surround the books The Crucible by Arthur Miller, 12
Angry Men by Reginald Rose, and Friday Night Lights by H. G. Bissinger. Every society is
composed of many meticulous standards and expectations. Generally, it seems to appear in sports or
in times of decision making. Realistically, it can show up anywhere and at anytime. Although
pressure may sound like a necessity, too much of it can be demoralizing. The escalating pressure of
society is a common theme shown throughout each story. Accusations ... Show more content on

More than a couple of jurors were nervous about going against the norm. Which resulted in them
acting very similar to Parris. Regardless that everyone in the room was entitled to their own
opinions, the decision they were about to make was between life or death. Juror #8 simply chose to
vote 'not guilty'. He was one against many, but that did not sway his decision. All he wished to do
was review and scrutinize the dubious case, in which he was assigned. Some would say, he stood his
ground as if he were as stubborn as a mule. He was not going to let a few people's opinions get in
his way. Although he may not have been fighting against a town of people, he was getting harassed
by eleven other duplicitous opinions. For instance, Juror #3 even went as far as yelling, "Let go of
me, God damn it! I'll kill him! I'll kill him!" (Rose, 48). He had no right to make those threats,
period. As a matter of fact, there are no reasons that come close to justifying his actions. On a
positive note, thankfully Juror #8 did not give into peer pressure. Although on the other hand, sadly
many people in today 's society would have resulted to it. Generally speaking, the narrow minded
Jurors were very comparable to the church from The Crucible. The church demonstrated a very
strict biased against any suspicious activity. In a similar way, most of the jurors came into court with
irrational ideas and preconceived

My Childhood Essay
Memories are all I have. Memories are what I can hold on to. My little boy, not being here anymore
is the worst thing thus far that has happened. I wonder all the time, where he is, if he is happy, if he
is in peace. We have not been the same after the accident, even though it has been five years.
We celebrate birthdays, and continue to talk as if he is still here. He is still here, I like to tell myself.
He is my angel, my guardian. He looks out for his mother, Ursula and makes sure I am good to her.
Even though on the outside it mainly seems like I am okay, I am mostly not. There is always going
to be a big chunk of my heart missing.
This whole situation is only because of those f**king humans. The god damn boats coming across
the sea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I turn around and notice something different with everything. It is silent. Dead silent. Then
vibrations come from above. Vibrations that feel familiar. That have an emotion of sadness. That
feels like death. A darkness grows from. I look up, seeing a familiar shape. An anger and rage builds
inside of me.
Ursula gives me a look I have never seen before. "Go get them, for Billy." she says. I understand
things for the first time in forever. Things are meant to happen. These things come here for a reason.
I rush up to the top of the sea water, but stop as I am about to reach the surface. This is what I have
been waiting for. Five years, gone. This is my moment, to make things right with everyone. My head
slowly rises where the sunlight can hit my eyes. There I see them. The s***ty humans. I see smiles
everywhere. Dancing, happiness. Is this the right thing to do? I examine each and every human, and
how they are talking this weird language, and uses their body parts to express emotion. I turn around
to see is other human. I focus on what he is doing. I see him throwing things into the sea, like it is
some sort of garbage. No I should do this. If not for Billy, for somebody else who is a parent and
cannot bare to lose their child such as I. I quickly rise above the water and grab multiple people with
my several tentacles. Finally, I see fear in their faces. They all have something to lose. I snap back
into reality. I throw everyone I can

The Leather Flight Chair Enclosed Olbarwulf

  • 1. The Leather Flight Chair Enclosed Olbarwulf The leather flight chair enclosed Olbarwulf in its embrace like an old friend which, all things considered, it might as well be. The blaring klaxons, the stamping flight boots, and the incessant shouting filtered through the cockpit canopy. All were familiar to him. And yet, even after all these years of deployment, the constant din still was still unnerving. Exhaling slowly, Olbarwulf leaned back, feeling through his coarse mane, feeling for the socket at the base of his neck. When did I last go under? he queried, touching the depression, thumbing the optic and data input cables. He needed to go under, to feel the Thunderbolt as a part of him, to fly. He yearned for that kind of freedom. But it would have to wait. His co–pilot was late, and a failure to launch fully crewed would land Olbarwulf directly in the sights of a commissar. The sounds of labored breathing and the unsteady clump of flight boots on the walkway to Olbarwulf's right announced the belated arrival of his co– pilot, Gustaf Krienger. One of the heavily persecuted Flavix, Gustaf's life as a co–pilot was harsh and violent, characterised by the latticework of scars stretching down from his large, dusky eyes to his whiskered cheeks, physical reminders of the Navy's long–held place as a bastion of conservative thinking. Olbarwulf held immense respect for the man's abilities as a navigator, but any attempt to show camaraderie in public with an alien was tantamount to suicide, so he kept trap shut and his mind ... • 3. The Battle of Adolescence in The Catcher in the Rye by... Adolescence is stressful and confusing to say the least, and is a time in one's life where one begins to discover who they are and what they want as they transition into the adult world. In J.D. Salinger's classic American novel, The Catcher in the Rye, the main character Holden, is a downhearted teenage boy used by Salinger in order to portray universal themes to the reader including isolation, loss of innocence, and the phoniness of the adult world. Through Salinger's use of symbolism, the reader is able to ponder Holden and his struggles as he embarks into adulthood in order to come to a deeper understanding of the themes Salinger's symbols represent. One of the most widely recognized symbols of the book is Holden's curiosity about the ducks in Central Park. Holden longs for answers to his question of where the ducks go in the winter. "The ducks. Do you know by any chance? I mean does somebody come around in a truck or something and take them away, or do they fly away by themselves–go south or something? (107). As the ice freezes over the pond and winter comes, the ducks leave, able to escape the brutal winter and the ice for a more pleasant, warmer climate to the south. Holden longs to avoid being apart of the adult world that is engulfed with phoniness, but is unable to understand how to do so. "The fish don't go no place. They stay right where they are, the fish. Right in the goddamn lake... Their bodies take in nutrition and all, right through the goddamn seaweed and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay about Hellfire and Damnation Hellfire and Damnation Looking back on my childhood, I have many memories shrouded in fear and self–loathing. I was raised in the Baptist church. My mother and grandmother made sure that I attended church every Sunday morning. My grandmother was from the mid–west. She carried her strict Bible belt background with her as she traveled west with my grandfather. The many lessons I learned from my grandmother and the minister at our church played a big part in how I began to see the world and my place in it. It would seem, looking back now, that the whole basis for my teachings during those early years was fear. I had the most intense fear of going to Hell. The only thing one had to know about Hell was that it was the place where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were rotten to the core. We did not deserve God's love or anyone's love, yet God loved us anyway. That made God a really great guy. My interpretation of this particular sermon was that I was a horrible person not worthy of love. I was a sinner and I was going to Hell. I would cry myself to sleep at night because I was so sure that I would be one of those lost souls for all of eternity. The minister talked of redemption. All I had to do to be saved and get into heaven was confess my sins and ask for forgiveness. I was sure, however, that I had far too many sins to be forgiven; besides, I wasn't really sorry for most of my "sins." I could not feel bad about questioning my parents' and the church's authority. Most of the time it seemed that they contradicted themselves or just didn't make any sense at all. I had a very hard time digesting the teachings of the church that included both a God who would demand killing and sacrifice and the same God who would love and protect his children. Due to the teachings I received and with so many people being in agreement, I just figured they must be right on some level, which made me the odd man out and the one destined to pay with my soul. All I had to do was to take a look at the Ten Commandments to see that I was not doing so well in the eyes of the Lord. "You must not Murder," I hadn't done that. "You must not commit adultery." I didn't even know what that meant. "You must not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Narrative On Catcher In The Rye IF YOU really want to know, the first thing you'd probably want to hear about is what happened to me while I was at that goddam place and what they did to me, and what happened between my parents and me and all that crap, but I'd rather not go into it. To tell the truth, that stuff made no difference on me. And besides, my parents would be in way over their heads if I told you anything personal about them. They're as touchy as hell, they are. What I will tell you about is what happened after I left that goddam place, after that sonuvabitch finally let me out. The day I left that goddam place, that one psychoanalyst kept on bringing up the subject of school. "Try hard, son. You've got a bright mind! Learn to use it! Be a good boy and go back ... Jane Gallagher was running towards me. She looked great as hell. "Oh, Holden! It's been so long! I've missed you!" I gave her a kiss on the cheek. I probably would've done more, but I was too jittery. "When'd Phoebe go missimg?" I was getting really nervous. "Well, I heard the poilce here early on this morning. Holden, you should really talk to your mother. You're the only person who can calm her down...and you're probably the only person who can figure out where Phoebe is." I didn't want to, but I talked to my mother. For Jane, though. I felt like I owed her. I don't know why. I was a madman, I really was. I don't want go over the whole damn conversation again, but my mother pretty much just told me that Phoebe hadn't been kidnapped, like I'd thought, she'd actually run away. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool. On one side of the river the golden foothill slopes curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan Mountains, but on the valley side the water is lined with trees– willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf junctures the debris of the winter 's flooding; and sycamores with mottled, white, recumbent limbs and branches that arch over the pool. On the sandy bank under the trees the leaves lie deep and so crisp that a lizard makes a great skittering if he runs among them. Rabbits come out of the brush to sit on the sand in the evening, and the damp flats are covered with the night tracks of 'coons, and with the spread pads of dogs from the ranches, and with the split–wedge tracks of deer that come to drink in the dark. There is a path through the willows and among the sycamores, a path beaten hard by boys coming down from the ranches to swim in the deep pool, and beaten hard by tramps who come wearily down from the highway in the evening to jungle–up near water. In front of the low horizontal limb of a giant sycamore there is an ash pile made by many fires; the limb is worn smooth by men who have sat on it. • 12. Descriptive Essay About My Best Friend After being taken back to the unit, the kids were at lunch, so I felt relieved. If you haven't realized by now, my relief is always temporary. I was strip searched and taken off all of my medications that eased me due to doctor's orders, he wanted me on a clean slate. I sat in an all white room with blinding blue chairs that were drilled into the ground, a television behind plexus–glass, and a table built onto the wall. I didn't know when I had first arrived this room would become familiar and a part of my everyday life. My roommate became my best friend. She held me when I cried, played with my hair, and told me how wonderful I was. I didn't the same for her: when she would have a break down in our bathroom, I went in, turned the light off, held her, and she would cry her heart out. She wasn't like that though, she was such an aggressive and angry person, but to me, she was the sweetheart who loved to splatter paint on a blank canvas, create a masterpiece in her journal, and that had an odd obsession with fuzzy socks. She was stunning. Her milky way, caramel colored skin that was soft to the touch always glowed. She has these drop–dead gorgeous eyes that were an odd brown, that looked green in the lighting, but in the center she had red bursting out like fire into the cool, muddy waves. Her hair was a curly, beautiful disaster. I loved waking up to her wet head and it took her twenty minutes to get it styled, even if it was just a pony–tail. She also had this great ... • 18. Solitude Essay "No man is an island." This famous quotation explains the nature of man as a social being. It is truly a fact that human beings cannot exist in isolation. They need to be interdependent with each other in order to survive. This interdependence is needed because a human being alone will not be able to fill his own social needs, and his material necessities came from other people as well. All acts of society such as sex, love, and dependence are essential for the survival of any species. Interaction and socialization is the only way to prevent people from isolation, from solitude. The last words in One Hundred Years of Solitude are: races condemned to one hundred years of solitude did not have a second opportunity on earth. These words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To be alone, forgotten, and to remain in solitude is their fate and destiny. Geographical Solitude. One form of solitude is shown geographically. Jose Arcadio Buendia shouts, "God damn it! Macondo is surrounded by water in all sides." This shows that the even the setting of the novel is in isolation. This detail may seem to be unimportant, but this reflects the situation that the characters in Macondo are in. Being geographically isolated, the people in Macondo will never learn anything more than what are in their reach. Because of this consequence, their society will never be able to progress beyond their resources. When Jose Arcadio Buendia and his men found out that Macondo is surrounded by water in all sides, Jose Arcadio Buendia laments to his wife, "We'll never get anywhere. We're going to rot our lives away here without receiving the benefit of science." Interaction with other societies would have let them advance beyond their present condition. The very reason why Jose Arcadio Buendia and his other friends take the expedition is to find a place where they will be able to know more about the great things and inventions, and to open a way that would put Macondo in contact with these great inventions. This idea is inspired by the new inventions that the gypsies display in Macondo. The effort to find other places where Macondo will be able to be in contact with other towns is also an effort by the people to release themselves from solitude, and to put an end to ... Catcher In The Rye Should Not Be Banned Essay The Catcher in The Rye is one of the most banned books in America across schools, libraries, and book stores, but it should not be as looked down upon as it is. It is banned because partly because of all of the violence and the bad language it uses. Many parents or teachers do not want children to be exposed to those kinds of things so they try to shield them from books such as The Catcher in the Rye. Also, some schools do not want kids having the book because Holden is seen as a rebel because he is constantly getting kicked out of schools because he does not put forth the effort. Parents and schools do not want their children to get the idea that it is ok or even normal for kids to approach school the way Holden does. But, The Catcher in The Rye should not be banned from libraries, schools, or book stores because it shows teenagers how not to act, the importance of friends and family, and that children should not be in a rush to grow up. Holden is constantly breaking rules and getting himself into trouble. Whether it is picking a fight with his roommate, "I tried to sock him, with all of my might, right smack in the toothbrush, so it would split his goddam throat open." • 26. Life Story : The Story Of Love In My Life I've been dying to tell people my life story. Like I keep having heart to hearts with people i barely know. I speak and my heart over flows. Things have really been hard for me this year. especially with being in all these weddings. One thing keeps coming up. Why are you single? I feel like being this old the world is constantly judging me for not being married or in love with someone. Honestly, I have been looking down on myself for it. I've been thinking what's wrong with me. Why am I so lonely? Why do I feel so tragic for being single. Things only got worse when my ex came back into my life for a couple months. I honestly felt so stupid and shitty the whole time. Things were so awkward between us. He would never look my way. We only said a couple words to each other nothing meaningful. It was stupid that I thought that the next time we saw each other that we could be friends. But what did I expect when I am the one who ended things. I never wanted to end things. I never wanted to hurt him or stop being his friend. Things just end this way, In no way was I trying to be a bitch about the whole thing. It wasn't working. We couldn't get on the same page. Worst of all being in a relationship triggered my anxiety and depression and there no way I could explain that to him. Even though I tried. For some reason only depressed people understand depressed people. I don't understand why it has to be that way, but Its just that way. But anyway at the end of the day I could get him to understand and I couldn't save us. I've beaten myself up over that everyday. I don't know how he ever felt, but I felt like I was some evil villain trying to destroy his happiness even though I know I wasn't. I was just trying to save myself and it suck that in order to save myself I had to hurt someone I loved. This is all some much and I don't even know how to let go of it all. I used to be so mad at him. I hated him forever thing, but I hated me more. I hate the fact that I could hold on to the only person that thought I was special. • 38. Analysis Of Holden In Catcher In The Rye, By J. D. Salinger A painful experience can overshadow all aspects of a persons life. In the bildungsroman, The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, there are several examples of this. In this novel, Holden who is the protagonist struggles with exemplifying his individuality and isolating himself, not having the ability to control the way he acts and trying to protect others such as his little sister Phoebe from growing up and attempting to preserve their innocence. By the end of the book, the tragic death of Holden Caulfield's little brother Allie had impacted the way Holden acts in his everyday life. Ever since the death of Holden's little brother Allie, Holden has begun to alienate himself from others and wants to be different from everybody else. He expresses his want for individuality by wearing his red hunting hat numerous times throughout the book. Usually, Holden would wear his hat with the peak towards the back but "[he] pulled the peak of [his] hunting hat around to the front all of a sudden, for a change" ... Holden wants to guard the genuine qualities Phoebe still acquires considering she's still a little girl. Basically, as long as Phoebe does not get unsheltered into the adult world where Holden describes as being filled with phonies, she will remain pure and naïve, just as Allie did since he never got the chance. In John Wyndham, The Chrysalids, is a fiction novel that portrays a post–apocalyptic society causing Sophie Wender to be an outsider because of her sixth toe. Sophie is a deviation with six toes and David is her only friend that knows about it. Sophie must now flee Waknuk before their society catches her and her family. Years later, Sophie is recognized and behaves differently from her childhood to an adult. Sophie's character is developing into a dreadful figure. Her life as an outcast makes her a depressed, distraught and a lonely character. Before Sophie flees Waknuk, she is an innocent child, however, she transforms into a depressed outcast who is willing to kill. Sophie is depressed because she has nothing to gain or lose after she is being sterilized. Sophie is desolated when she states this "'I'd have given him babies gladly, if I could (...) I–oh, why do they do that to us? Why didn't they kill me? It would have been kinder than this'" (Wyndham 167). It is clear Sophie is expressing anger due to not being able to reproduce for Gordon. Sophie explains that it will be more pleasing for her to be killed than sterilized. Sophie also describes her sadness in the fringes that the only person who cares for her is Gordon and can not bless him with a child. Undoubtfully, Sophie's depression also changes her actions through willing to kill. Sophie's demonstration of murder is said "'Rosalind, and Petra, too, watched silently in horrid fascination as Sophie scooped a bowlful of water from the bucket to wash the blood off her arms and clean the knife'" (Wyndham 175). This quote explains that after Sophie rescued Petra and Rosalind, she begins washing blood off her knife as a sign of murder. Since Sophie left Waknuk, the only damaging actions she committed is throwing a rock at Alan, meanwhile, in the Fringes, Sophie can kill without indication, whereas life in the Fringes is about survival. But at times, a rush of water would overwhelm my eyes and I would let them flow continuously until I became bloody unconscious. "It was a dark foggy day when I came upon these bright green and blue opals," I mutter as I began reminiscing about the last thirty years. I stumbled upon the strangest opals that appeared to glow, only realizing that later, it was no opals, cause' no damn opals like that had stared at me before. As the fog started to clear up, the appearance of a little girl my age stepped towards. "Hey, you!" I shouted, which didn't seem to be loud enough to be heard, but still, she stumbled to make her way towards me. I notice how bruised and lost she must have been and with her opal eyes, she can see that I was too. We walked through the black darkness of Lightning Ridge for what felt like a bloody eternity, where every second felt like a minute and every minute felt like a damn hour. The thought of having no place to go made the massive walk silent and still. There were times when she gaze my way and mutter a question now and then. • 48. The Consequences Of Jutigment In Twelve Angry Men In society, we have an obligation to our community to defend it by using judgment to determine a person's innocence or guilt. It is a civic responsibility to make an informed decision that is determined based on evidence to help come to a logical conclusion. This essay argues that judgment in Twelve Angry Men is addressed by the jury who think rationally against a 16 year old kid facing the death sentence. It looks at the gender and ethnicity of the jury and suggests that the environment the jurors are placed in forwards their own judgment on themselves, making judgment become an empathetic experience. The placement of 12 men in a jury shows inconsistency towards female's input upon what judgment should be made for the accused. Inserting 12 men together only evokes testosterone against one another affecting their critical thinking and causing drama. For Juror, 7 judgment is a fast process and is addressed in the drama as Rose (121) states that, "7th Juror, Listen, I'll tell you something. I'm a little sick of this whole thing already. All this yakkin's gettin' us nowhere so I'm going to break it up here. I'm changing my vote to not guilty. 11th Juror, What kind of man are you? You have sat here and voted guilty with everyone else because there are some baseball tickets burning a hole in your pocket". Literary Voices Of Martin Amis Martin Amis, who turns out to be a celebrity after the controversies and criticism he met with over his personal life and the alleged gender– bias, is one of the most significant literary voices of the contemporary period. His narratives, oscillating between realism and postmodernism, present the bitter truths of modern capitalist society. British government under the rule of Margaret Thatcher shifted its interest from the progress of the Welfare state to privatization of business, marketing and consumerism which gave a rapid increase to commercialization. As the government policies change, media and advertising began to aggrandize free market and individual entrepreneurship where greed has become the prime motive. Amis deals with the ... The concepts of material consumption, the false appearance and money are interrelated. Commenting on the source of inspiration, Peter Childs remarks that "it suggests through the increasingly intense popular cults of celebrity and fame, to the commercial greed of 1980s" (44). • 54. Congo’s Era of Damnation In the year 1885, King Leopold II of Belgium imperialized the Independent State of the Congo. Leopold set the area up under his own personal rule. His rule was an extremely negative and very unwanted thing that plunged the area into an era of damnation. The early history of the congo really starts in 150 AD. The indigenous immigrants to the Congo, who were most likely Pygmies, had migrated from the northern area to the savannah regions in the south now called DROC, or Democratic Republic of the Congo (Clarke, John H). These immigrants brought agriculture, and made iron tools. Moving ahead to 1482, the Portuguese navigator, Diogo Cão visited the Congo River marking the first ever known European contact with the region. Henry Stanley, a British explorer is commanded to proclaim King Leopold's rule over the Congo in 1879. This is followed by European powers at the Berlin Conference who recognised Leopold's claim to the Congo basin and he announces the establishment of the Congo Free State headed by himself (Democratic Republic of...), thus beginning Leopold's era of tyranny. Leopold's purpose of controlling the Congo was for the vast amount of resources such as ivory, rubber, and copper. In 1887, J.B. Dunlop's invention of inflatable, rubber, bicycle tires and the rapid increase in the popularity of the automobile, caused the demand for rubber to increase dramatically. No doubt, he is determined to murder his uncle not only for the sake of his father, but also for the absolute revulsion he feels towards his uncle's incestuous relationship with his mother. Afterward, he is delayed on his plans several times due to, shame, fear and a sense of honor. Moreover; Hamlet has doubts about his father's "ghost" true intentions. He often wonders if the ghost has evil intent towards him and he is ashamed he might be being used by the entity. "The ghost I saw may be the devil and the devil has the power to assume a pleasing disguise, and so he may be taking advantage of my weakness and sadness to bring about my damnation" (II.II.565– 569). For this reason Hamlet sets out to do a play to prove both his uncle reaction and the ghost's effectively delaying once more his uncle's assassination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In conclusion, Hamlet has a strong sense of honor and he will want to do his father justice in an honorable way perhaps through a common duel instead of a sneaky murder, but he also wants to make sure he is not making a mistake. He is also under the impression that Claudius might express remorse for his cruel deed. He openly voices this idea as; ""Hum. The film provided necessary information of dams that allows individuals to make an informative decision on which side of the argument they want to take. The film positively moved me, especially during interviews where those affected by dams specified their individual experiences. Ben and Travis trying to kayak through a dam really helped show how devoted they are to the cause and put themselves in harms way in order for this to get across to people. A second reason I felt touched by the film is how they got individuals who have been personally hurt by dams to interview for the picture, providing their two senses on the issue and what they have experienced before and after dams were built. Lastly, the statistics and data provided during the film really help to put a number figure on how dams have impacted individuals and the environment; by the number of deaths that have occurred do to breaks in dams and by the number of fish that have been depleted in rivers and streams because they can no longer make the journey back to spawn. In Glen Canyon, two archeological teams had limited time to find as much archeological artifacts that they could recover and document sites before the area was going to be flooded. Everything was going to go under, but at least the teams would have the data and records so that they could make museum displays and write books about the area that no one knew existed. To be more specific, the Vietnam war was one of the most noticeable conflicts that was destructive to both parties involved through chemical warfare, not only to the soldiers but also the environment. During the 1960s through to current day, the chemical pollution of the many mangrove forests near local villages led to health problems for the local Vietnamese people and the American soldiers. It began after the Stock Market crashed on October 19, 1929. According to A Biography of America: FDR– The Great Depression, "It was the deepest and longest lasting economic downturn in American History" (A Biography of America). As a result of the Great Depression one out of every four Americans was out of work. The Great Depression resulted in a life for Americans that was plagued by overproduction and under–consumption of products, starving families were forced into bread and soup lines, and thousands of agricultural workers became migratory workers in order to survive. In Oscar Ameringer's, The Plague of Plenty, we see just how devastating overproduction and under–consumption of products was during the years of the Great Depression. Ameringer observed many things while he traveled across the country. Not many people know how to sail a raft down a river for a week. Not many people know how to interact with nature and the animals that come with it. We seem to come from a world that is dependent on time and consumed in money. Edward Abbey is what you would call an extreme environmentalist. He talks about how it was an environmental disaster to place a dam in which to create Lake Powell, a reservoir formed on the border of Utah and Arizona. He is one of the few that have actually seen the way Glen Canyon was before they changed it into a reservoir. Today, that lake is used by over a million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He seems to argue the ‘wheelchair ethos of the wealthy, upper–middle class American slob'. Well, excuse the people who were born paralyzed from the waist down, and would like to experience the forces nature in its natural state of beauty and grace. He seems to generalize the typical population of people who visit Lake Powell on an unscientific basis, upper–middle class American slobs. So does that mean that a lower class family doesn't have the money to do such recreational activity? And that we are slobs because we like to view nature in its own environment? One last point in which should be heard is that, Edward Abbey states that now that the river is closed up people cannot get a raft, spend about forty dollars, give up 7–10 days, and rely only on the goodness of fresh catfish just to float down a river. In today's society people don't have time. We would rather spend the hundreds of dollars to get a nice speedboat, buy real food, and only take maybe the weekend to enjoy the great outdoors. We enjoy the freshness of a shower everyday, going to the bathroom with flushable device, eating food with the right bit of garlic taste, in other words the comfort of home. • 79. My Childhood Essay Memories are all I have. Memories are what I can hold on to. My little boy, not being here anymore is the worst thing thus far that has happened. I wonder all the time, where he is, if he is happy, if he is in peace. We have not been the same after the accident, even though it has been five years. If not for Billy, for somebody else who is a parent and cannot bare to lose their child such as I. I quickly rise above the water and grab multiple people with my several tentacles. Finally, I see fear in their faces. They all have something to lose. I snap back into reality. I throw everyone I can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
