Personal Narrative-Lost In The Rainforest
Lost in the Rainforest I was travelling through the rainforest when I lost my way. It was terrible. I
got bitten by bugs, attacked by animals, and had nothing to eat or drink. Monkeys stole my map and
wouldn't give it back. I chased those monkeys, begging for my map, but I think they were laughing
at me. Needless to say, I didn't get my map back. I tried to find my way out, but I kept walking in
circles. On my journey, I saw a river. I leaned over to take a drink, and a fish bit my nose. It must
have been a piranha. I tried to look for a lake without piranhas, because I already had a sore nose,
and I didn't want to end up with a sore mouth. Then I saw a banana tree, and I yelled out, "Food!"
Why I did that, I don't know, because there was

10 Mario Game Persuasive Essay
(Trying to) Make a Memorable Mario
I'm well over 20 hours into Super Mario Maker and I have to admit, most of that's making Mario
levels, not so much playing them. Maybe that's good since it's Mario maker, not player, but I'm
getting ahead of myself.
The game begins like the old Mario Bros. for Nintendo, but with no enemies and a sudden cliff.
You're told the level's unfinished and you're asked to complete the level for your tutorial. Silhouettes
of where to place enemies and blocks are strewn about, and you're walked through the basics, like
shaking to change a unit's function or hiding power–ups in blocks. It's good for the basics, but it
doesn't walk players through the concept of good level design.
You start out with brick blocks, "?" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Course world gives you 100 in the 100 Mario Challenge, but they both have one important rule: 1–
ups don't take effect until you've beaten a level (but earning one is stored even if you die), and you
can't gain more than three 1–Up mushrooms at the end of the level, which helps mix things up for
the 10 Mario Challenge, but in levels where a designer has more than three traps, it means you're
coming out of that challenge at a loss most of the time. Worse yet, many of the "expert" level
designers use few to no coins or 1–Ups, making your ability to recover from your losses even more

Liar's Poker Analysis
The book Liar's Poker begins with Michael Lewis, the author saying "Wall Street," reads the sinister
old gag, "is a street with a river at one end and a graveyard at the other." This quote, symbolizing
competitiveness, refers to the river as growth and prosperity and the graveyard as death in a
company proves to be the fundamental principle that led Michael Lewis to write this book. The book
portrays Michael Lewis' time with Salomon Brothers (SB), the largest bond dealer in the 1980s. It
outlines the business model that SB used to maximize capital in the mortgage bond market. By the
mid– 1980's SB had become the most influential bond dealer in the market. ... Show more content

They were able to take advantage of the situation and control the market by offering whatever price
they thought was fitting. Even though this seemed like a genius play it was by stroke of luck that
this was all able to happen. If interest rates remained fixed SB would have never been as successful
as history tells us and the mortgage bond division would have probably been terminated in the near
future. Even though floating interest rates was a stroke of luck, SB was able to take full advantage of
the situation while it lasted. Since SB was already inept to mortgage bonds they were able to
compete at the top of the market far before anyone could even enter. It is said that SB had
monopolized the mortgage bond market and were able to set the price buying and selling bonds
rapidly. The change to floating rates may have been lucky but the determination, skill and grit of SB
to dominate the mortgage bond market was what led them to become wealthy in the early 1980s.
Michael Lewis' success within the business is a microcosm for the business as a whole. Michael
Lewis started as an unsuccessful Art Major out of Princeton. He got his big break when he attended
a dinner for the Queen Mother at St. James Palace. At this point in his career, Lewis became
interested in Wall Street due to the fact that that is where the money was at. While he was at this
dinner he

The Bad Guys Chapter Summary
The Bad Guys (Episode 1), written by Aaron Blabey, is about four bad animals on their journey to
be good guys. It has both pictures and words. This book has received a lot of positive reviews and
has also won two awards (Blabey, 2015). We are able to convey feelings, ideas and concepts through
written language and visual images (Callow, 2013). The text and images in The Bad Guys let us
laugh when we are reading it. Callow (2013), the work of linguist Michael Halliday suggests that
each text, whether written or visual can be asked by field, tenor and mode. The three areas of
register are written and drawn perfectly which in turn allows us to understand the text and images
easily. (Callow (2013) also states that images give us more details on the situation. For example,
page 108 of The Bad Guys, the text shows that Mr. Wolf is very excited about his plan but we do not
know how Mr. Piranha and Mr. Snake feels about it. By looking at the image, we can see that they
are not thrilled with the plan. The images provide us with information we cannot find out from
written text. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of operating separately from the words, images operate alongside, around, over and even
under them (Winch, 2015). Winch (2015) also states that words and images function together and
both contribute to meaning–making. Using page 119 of The Bad Guys as an example, the pictures
show Mr. Snake and Mr. Piranha wrapped around a hook which is flying through the air. Notice how
the word 'WHOOSH' was written alongside the rope instead of somewhere else on the page? This
shows the readers that 'WHOOSH' is a sound that is made when something is being thrown and
readers can easily understand it. If the word was written somewhere else on the page, readers may
have a hard time understanding what is the purpose of the

Glass Frogs
Caimans vary in size from one meter for the dwarf caiman to almost five meters for the black
caiman. They are most closely related to alligators and crocodiles. Their diet consists of fish, insects,
birds, and small mammals and reptiles. Jaguars and humans are the only predators of caimans.
Females build large nests and lay anywhere from 10 to 50 eggs which hatch in about six weeks. The
temperature determines the gender of the babies. The mother then takes her young to a shallow pool
to learn to hunt and swim. Juvenile caimens stay with their parents for around a year and a half.
Once a juvenile reaches adult length, it is able to reproduce. If they survive long enough, they can
continue to grow until reaching a size that may exceed 2.4 meters. (a–z–animals.com; animal
diversity.ummz.umich.edu) Glass frogs have a translucent underbelly exposing the liver, heart, and
intestines. Scientists believe that this is some sort of camouflage. Glass frogs have excellent eyesight
which allows them to easily detect when prey is near. They are carnivorous–eating insects and

Piranhas are omnivorous and will eat almost anything that it can find. Its diet mainly consists of
snails, insects, fish, and aquatic plants. They will occasionally eat birds or larger mammals that fall
into the water. Piranhas are eaten by river dolphins, crocodiles, turtles, birds, larger fish, and humans
who hunt them for food. They are usually found in fast flowing rivers where there is enough food to
go around. Since piranhas live in large shoals, competition for food is fierce and feeding frenzies
can occur when there is blood in the water or when a shortage of food occurs. In April and May,
piranhas mate. They move, in pairs, to slower moving waters and prepare a nest. The female then
lays an average of 5000 eggs of which, usually 90 percent survive.

The Extinction Of Beaked Whales
The extinction of the beaked whales! Underwater noise is noise that the humans make during
experiments underwater, and I am certain underwater noise can effect the extinction of whales,
beaked whales, to be exact.
Beaked whales are whales that use noise to communicate. Any type of unusual noises underwater
can cause problems, so if there is a background coming from our equipment then they can't really
communicate. You might be thinking, " It should be okay if they can't communicate." Well you are
wrong. You see, whales use there communication as a backup if they are in trouble, such as being
attacked, or even stuck for that matter.
For example, A beaked whale is looking for food around his living area, and this same whale takes a
wrong turn into a group of piranhas or sharks. You and I know he is in a heap of trouble. He tries to
escape, but the sharks or piranhas are too fast. Then, he tries to call out to his other whales. Well, if
there is a noise from the humans, then they can't hear him call. The whale can't get away, and he is
eaten for lunch. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It effects them by their food. If they can't hear the whales call out, then they can't have food. That
also goes for fish. They makes sounds that give their position away too. There are situations were it

How To Write A Narrative Essay About Fishing
It seemed like a good idea at the time. Shortly after, I found out the opposite. When in the 5th grade,
I would often bike across my neighborhood to a public park with a small pond in it. I went fishing in
it with my friend, David, or sometimes even my little sister. While practicing a catch–and–release
style of fishing regularly, I decided to bring a fish home one day. On the hazy summer day, I was a
carefree dolphin, cruising down the hill at a relaxed speed. My bicycle had a metal rack behind the
seat, to which I Duck–Taped a bucket onto, with the purpose of carrying my tackle box and fishing
rod. My sister was closing in from behind on her purple Barbie bike by the time I made it to the
gravel path that led to the pond. When we got to the spot, I setup my sister's line first, then I dropped
my own hook down, right below the dock. Almost immediately, a bluegill devoured the small chunk
of a Slim Jim like a blood–thirsty piranha. After I caught around 30 panfish, I landed one fish with
very vibrant colors. I decided I wanted to bring it home and keep it as a pet. So just before me and
my sister departed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the series at the time. While at the dinner table, I told my mom all about my new pet; she did not
seem amused. She told me that we already have enough pets and that we don not have anywhere to
keep the fish. She also made it very clear that if it died in my possession, I would be susceptible to a
just punishment. My mother always found a way to convince me, her diction seemed to be as
intelligent as Shakespeare's; she instructed me to put the fish back into the pond. So, I did just

Does Jason Momoa Lose His Arm
For Aquaman followers, it is a known fact that the DC super hero loses his arm in the comics. The
question is, will Jason Momoa's character also be losing the very same arm?
If Jason Momoa's appearance holds any clue, it may just follow Peter David's version of the
character. Peter David, the writer of the Time and Tide series, gives the super hero a rugged look. He
forgoes the clean cut appearance and gives him a long beard and rugged facial features. In the
comics and the TV animation series, Aquaman loses his left hand to several different stories.
One, he tries to save his mother and son from destruction while he is cuffed somewhere else. He did
not have a choice but to cut his arm off. Another story features a piranha scenario. Charbydis,

Parable And In Praise Of Feelings Bad About Yourself By...
Morality is "the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad
behavior" (Oxford Dictionary n.d.). Szymborska's perspective on morality can be seen in the poems
Parable and In Praise of Feeling Bad About Yourself. She uses symbolism to convey her view point
that people are intrinsically immoral but at the same time that the awareness of being immoral is a
defining feature of human nature. The poem Parable uses public and worldly symbols such as the
ocean and the desert island while In Praise... contains bestial symbols to portray her perspective on
the aspects of human morality which she deems intrinsic to humanity. Collectively, these poems
allow the reader a glimpse into Szymborska's outlook on life and allowed her to offer a different
perspective to the reader, potentially challenging the reader's beliefs on morality or imparting a new
perspective onto the reader.
Parable is from a collection of poems called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same island can't possibly be everywhere, which could only mean that the perhaps this
justification that the fisherman uses is Szymborska's attempt to portray that when moral acts cannot
be carried out, elaborate excuses are made which may make no sense. In the lines, "That's how it
goes with/universal truths" , Szymborska is referring to the universal truth that everyone is immoral.
The word Parable in the title also suggests that there is a moral to be taught in the story. Even
though the fishermen are conscious of a person who is possibly at risk of death on an island in the
ocean, they are willing to ignore it. This could represent Szymborska's belief that humanity's
immoral nature is a universal truth and that there is no such thing as a moral person because by
knowing that people are suffering and at risk of death, like the person on the island, doing nothing is

Amazon Rainforest Biome
Did you know that the rainforest is a fantastic biome? It has three parts that make it special. The
forest is also home to more plant life than any other. It's pretty big. Rainforests have a climate and
appearance, producers, and consumers specific to the ecosystem.
The Amazon has a humid climate. There's a lot precipitation and an average temperature of 77
degrees Fahrenheit. The rainforest is found in South America. The Amazon River is surrounded by
tropical rainforest. Three layers can be found in the forest. The forest floor is the bottom layer, it has
an under story where all the trunks of the trees are located, and a canopy. This is where the tops of
the trees are located.
A producer is an organism that gets food and energy from sunlight.

Tears Of Wine Essay
The term "tears of wine" refers to a well–known everyday phenomenon. When a two–component
liquid evaporates in a container, preferential evaporation of one component induces solutal and
thermal Marangoni stresses that let the liquid climb the walls of the container. Eventually, the liquid
ridge having developed that way becomes unstable and is pulled back to the container by gravity,
forming structures reminiscent of tears [1]. This effect is having great importance both on
fundamental and technological processes, e.g., lubrication, oil recovery, emulsification, microfluidic
devices, or coating processes. Extensive research works have been reported to understand
Margngoni effect on liquid film spreading, small droplet/particle transport and manipulation, flow
instabilities [2–4], etc. One striking feature is that most of them were focused on flat interfaces.
Recent works show that, in addition to the liquid–vapor interfacial tension gradient that renders
Marangoni stresses, the curvature of the solid–liquid substrate (which can be treated as a
confinement and plays a crucial role in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Theme Of Symbolism In 'Sandkings'
Draft
In the sci–fi, horror short story "Sandkings" lives humans and aliens alike in a futuristic land of
technological advancement. The main character, Simon Kress, lives in apparent abundance, with all
the art pieces, ancient artifacts, exotic animals he wants in a sprawling manor. Such a convenient
and indulgent environment deteriorates around him, however. He soon finds himself back in
unforgiving nature, hungry and crawling due to his own actions. Through this development, George
R. R. Martin explores the savage nature of humanity. Their fragile status at the top of the food chain
is threatened by their thirst for entertainment and power, leading to the main character's downfall at
the hands of the mirrored sandkings.
The beginning of the story features Kress living in the aforementioned sprawling manor with his
very own zoo he likes to show off. Foreshadowing of his reckless care taking of the sandkings,
Kress contemplates that "The piranha could always eat each other if he were detained longer than
expected. They'd done it before. It amused him...When he finally returned, all the fish were dead"
(1). His amusement of the piranha cannibalizing eachother establishes his character early on as lack
in compassion. Furthermore, he simply goes and finds a store to replace his dead pets, showing that
animals are treated as a commodity to be consumed. The lack of regard for the wellbeing of animals
is further demonstrated in Kress' starvation of the sandkings and hosting a

Amazon River Dolphin Research Paper
The Amazon river dolphin is a dolphin with pink coloration that lives in the Amazon Rainforest. The
Amazon has a tropical rainforest climate with humid/warm weather, one season, and heavy rain
getting between 1,500 mm and 3,000 mm a year. Despite the Amazon being a cradle of life, the
Amazon river dolphins are being threatened with extinction. Contamination of their habitats,
fishing, and humans killing them for bait are the main contributors to their endangered status. Their
extinction threatens the disruption of the river ecosystem of the Amazon Rainforest, because there
will be an unbalance of predator and prey, causing other species' populations to fluctuate negatively
or positively.
Amazon river dolphins live in rivers, as a result, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human constructed dams separate the dolphins, leading to small populations that are hard to build
up. Pollution of their river habitats, caused by humans, are killing the dolphins as well as their food
sources. Other than pollution and dams, fishing boats harm and kill dolphins. For one, dolphins get
caught in fishing nets, and are harmed that way. Two, people try to chase them away from scaring of
the fish, often hurting them in this process. Three, they are hunted to be used for bait for the catfish
industry. Four, the Amazon river dolphins are naturally curious, and will come up to boats and get
hit by the boat's propeller. This behavior of curiosity, along with others, contribute to their
extinction, besides humans. A behavior that contributes to the Amazon river dolphins being
endangered is that they are solitary. This leaves them without protection, and it heightens their
chance of being killed. This is, because if you are in a large crowd, the chances of you being the one
eaten are lower. However, the smaller the group, the more likely you will be eaten. Another trait that
is they are active during the day. Their predators are nocturnal, so this leaves them susceptible to
attacks since they are not awake to defend themselves. All these factors, outside and trait wise, cause
the Amazon river dolphin to be threatened with extinction. If the Amazon river dolphins were to go

Piranha River Story Short Story
The Piranha River Story is a compelling short story about the love between Beyoncé and Pat. We
are told how the bridge between the two shores is destroyed and Beyonce has to make a particular
sacrifice to Gilligan for her to be able to be with Pat,who is separated from her by a river full of
hungry piranhas. This story has all types of twists and turns that display the true colors of each
character involved. I personally believe that Bubba could be categorized as the most horrible for
beating Pat in the manner he did. I don't think it was actually necessary to have a violent encounter
with Pat. Second in line, I feel Beyonce earned a spot for allowing Bubba to brutalize Pat and for
subsequently watching and laughing at the whole ordeal. Next is Pat for breaking Beyonce's heart
by essentially shaming her for doing what she had to in order to be with him. While it was a less
than ideal way of her getting a way to the other shore, it was all she was able to do,save for trying to
actually swim in the river. I understand him being possibly upset, but to completely get rid of her
when the only reason she did this act was to be with him, is very telling to me. Number 4 is Gilligan
because he could've switched services with Beyonce that did not involve sexual favors that she did
not honestly want to do. 5 is the least horrible, and that is Jesus for the reason that he did not directly
do anything to really influence how the story went. Since violence is not one of my top

imagine the type of animals that live there and most people imagine Toucans, Red– eyed tree frogs,
but most of all the Bengal Tiger. Why? Well, it's mostly because of what we've learned from school

because of how much they are decreasing in population. Bengal Tigers are endangered species and

The Amazon Rainforest Covering more than forty percent of South America is the Amazon
Rainforest. It's known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in Brazil.
The Amazon Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science
Foundation, the Aamazon Rriver is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty
percent of the Earth's freshwater. But the Nile River is the longest when calculating width. Being as
big a it is, the Aamazon holds a massive number of different types of species of wildlife with
different kinds of sub–ecosystems to provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first think of
the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the land based environments. I'm going to take the first part of
this project to talk about the terrestrial ecosystem in the Aamazon and all the wildlife that it holds.
According to WorldAtlas there are 427 types of mammals, 1,300 types of birds, 378 types of
reptiles, more than 400 kinds of amphibians, over 80,000 types of plants and trees, and estimation of
over 2 million different types of insects. Unfortunately, I cannot go over every single one of these
unique species so I will talk about the more popular species that benefit the jungle. The rainforest is

Jeremy Wade Research Paper
Unlike many regular fisherman, an extreme angler fishes for greater purposes in the worst
conditions. Jeremy Wade, a marine biologist and extreme angler, helps conservation by teaching
tribesmen new tricks, studying fish species, and broadcasting his research worldwide. By fishing
everyday, Jeremy Wade has come about new styles, secrets, and tricks for the fishing world.
Growing up in East India, Jeremy wade used his access to the River Stour to his advantage learning
about freshwater fish and becoming the fisherman he is today. After many years of fishing from his
backyard, Wade's interest for freshwater fish started to grow into an obsession causing him to start
looking into marine biology. In 1982 Wade went on his first voyage to fish ... Show more content on

After many days of fishing, Wade finally caught a 113 pound Wels catfish that had two jawbones
limiting its ability to eaht and do many day to day tasks. But after much research to the fish it was
discovered that all the river needed was a lower ph level to stop the mutation. The mutation is
currently being worked to this day to save the local population of the Wels catfish species. Although
his research helped out that species, there are some incidents where his research doesn't always go
as planned. When fishing for the giant freshwater stingray in the Amazon river, Wade had failed
attempt after failed attempt to catch this elusive freshwater beast. After catching many different
freshwater catfish species Wade finally caught his stingray but wasn't quite the moments he was
looking for. Weeks later, Wade caught his giant he was looking for weighing in at just over 500
pounds. But while placing a tracker into the wing of the ray, the ray died due to the high levels of
stress placed on the creature. But like many other jobs it needed to be understood that not all
attempts will be successful. Although the animal was harmed, Wade didn't give up on his attempts to
catching a returning his giant ray the the water safely for research. Finally after almost two months
into his journey for the ultimate ray, Wade caught and released a 541 pound ray that was seven feet
in diameter (Adgully). Ten years later, National Geographic is still tracking this ray as she grows
larger and larger every year and gathers us with more and more information every

Piraranhas Research Paper
My Angle on Angling Piranhas (sp. Piraña) Anytime you mention the Amazon River it doesn't take
long before someone brings up Piranhas. For the most part, these toothy little buggers have gotten a
bad rap from movies and other media venues. Piranhas rarely attack nor do they specifically seek
out humans. In doing research for this trip I ran across the adage "Piranhas do not eat people, people
eat piranha." People seem to overlook the idea that the people of the Amazon have bathed in Piranha
infested water for thousands of years. A good example of this is Jeremy Wade's demonstration of
swimming with Piranhas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWmfYDkayMY Piranhas are very
easy to catch so I'm challenging myself to catch three different species: Red Bellied Piranhas (the
most common), Black Piranhas, and Pacu. These three are in order per weight as well. The Reds
weigh around a pound, the Blacks can get up to 5, and Pacu are the big boys! They can get very
heavy at 50lb. I was skeptical at first on the Pacu being that heavy but a quick look at world records
has them topping the 50lb mark. Pacu are vegans so there is no need to imagine monster Piranhas
tearing off limbs. I will be getting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have caught a bit of everything on these lures. From Catfish in the New River to Pike in Canada. I
have even caught Carp on a Joe's Flies. They are also made here in my home state of WV! My
second choice will be some sort of Rooster Tale. I have had nearly the same success on them as Joe's
Flies. The Roosters are more flexible as to weight and easier to control without binding up during
the cast. Although you can clamp a split shot about 10" up the line to add some weight, Joe's Flies
are the more delicate of the two. I'd place them in the finesse category although that's normally
designated for soft plastics. The primary colors I'll use are earth tones. Natural looking lures have

What about the Xeron?" "They burn it." "Burn? Why so?" "Don't know, but what is inside the

Leiningen Versus The Ants
1938, Carl Stephenson published his short story, "Leiningen Versus the Ants." The story was an
immediate success, and shortly after it was published, it was produced first as a radio drama and
then as a movie, "The Naked Jungle". The story begins with the District Commissioner warning
Leiningen that his plantation is directly in the path of an innumerable army of ants and to leave, but
Leiningen denies leaving, as well as his four hundred men. In his three years as a planter, Leiningen
has defeated every obstacle he has encountered. This fact, together with his belief that human
intelligence used correctly can achieve anything, probably plays a large part in his decision to face
the approaching multitude of relentless ants that are devouring everything in their path, but his
choice will result in serious consequences for both his workers and himself. Leiningen has defeated
three acts of God; a flood, plague, and drought. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without a doubt, Leiningen chooses to stay and protect his plantation that he has build from his own
hands for many years. He fought the ants on the first day Leiningen used the water filled ditch as a
defense against the ants attack. One might say that Leiningen was brave about choosing to stay and
fight for his plantation. Leiningen still has to make some choices in order to keep his plantation
alive, as well as everyone there. On the second day, Leiningen notices that the ants were using dead
corps of ants to form a bridge. In this matter, Leiningen decides to add more water to flush the water
up and down so that the ants couldn't cross the ditch. The decisions he was making to keep his men

I meant every word I had just said. I felt something change in me. I knew I was fully covered in that
thick skin Julia had warned me I would need. The bottom line was that these two men and my life
with them was the most important thing in the world to me. Nothing was going to get in the way of
that. I didn't care anymore, what anyone thought of me. It didn't matter. All that mattered was we
three, together.
Charlie jumped off the bed yelling, "This calls for dancing!" He ran to get his music.

David chuckled and said, "You encourage and enable him. You 're a nut enabler."
In the process, the phone rang. Charlie grabbed it, and we heard him say, "The Rose Club at 8:30.
Excellent. Thank you so much."
He hung up and ran back in and started the music. Today it would be Bon Jovi with Jennifer Nettles
singing "Who Says You Can't Go Home" I jumped up and pulled David up with me. While Charlie
jumped around the room dancing and singing, I made David jump up and down on the bed and

Amur Tiger Diets
Our animals were all wildly different and include: the Amur tiger, bottlenose dolphin, California sea
lion, clouded leopard, the okapi, Orinoco crocodile, tawny frogmouth, red bellied piranha, and
roadrunners. All of these animals have very different diets consisting of different foods from
different habitats. They all have adaptations in the mouth and the area surrounding it on each of their
faces. While they are different to better suite their different diets, they all have a similar function: to
get food and nutrients into their body. This includes oral openings large enough to fit their food into
their mouths and oral structures used to precisely capture their food. The Amur tiger has a bunch of
sharp teeth and a rough tongue that allows it better eat the flesh off of its food, and its jaw structure

Personal Narrative: A Day In Tennessee
The morning was shining brightly with a nice ninety degree weather day. Friends from Florida were
visiting for the week. Today was our splash zone day where we go to The Great Lakes Military Base
and use paddle boards, kayaks, water bikes, swim in the lake and eat lots of food. We all woke up
that morning early so we could get all packed and ready to go. We had to take two separate cars
because of how many people we had to take. The car ride was eccentric and ready to jump out of the
car and into the lake at any moment. Finally both of the cars made it to the destination, my parents
and my friends parents both rented all of the things we could use for today. Throughout the whole

I Don 't Blame People For Harboring
"Are you nuts? Go be a doctor, at least you won't die poor." This is exactly what my grandmother
said when I gave her the awful news that I wanted to write and direct films for a living. Sound
familiar? This is often what aspiring creative individuals hear – not to negate the special few who
have thoroughly supportive relatives and friends. But for the rest of us, we get that all too
recognizable tone of skepticism, doubt, and in extreme cases, outright pessimism. I don't blame
people for harboring such notions, and neither should you.
For every successful writer, dancer, actor, or director, there are thousands more that didn't succeed.
Everyone knows the story of some young actor who runs off to Hollywood only to become a waiter
that never gets his big break. These stories permeate and have emerged as some form of cautionary
tale. Are you scared yet? Thinking of giving up and getting a "real" job? Don't be. If every hopeful
artist gave up, the world would be bleak, humorless, and uninspired. There would be no Quintin
Tarantino's or David Bowie's.
Now, I admit, diving into the entertainment industry is scary and takes a lot of intestinal fortitude.
However, it our madness, determination, and passion for our work that propelled us to exclaim, "I
want to create," in the first place. And it is that mindset that sets us apart. Someone else who had a
dream and pushed towards it is no other than James Cameron. His path toward success did not start

How The Mayans, Aztecs, And Olmecs
Mayans, Aztecs, & Olmecs: The Mayans were a civilization in Central America. Mayans started out
with small villages but over time would start developing larger cities. Most Mayan city–states
include at least one plaza, a ball court, and one temple. The Mayans were very sophisticated people.
And you used picture like symbols for communicating. The Mayans main activity was farming. So,
on a normal day you will find lots of people working on the fields farming. But, the Mayan culture
started to slowly die, and eventually it completely disappeared. Mayan astronomers studied the
moon, earth, & sun and then came up with a 365 day calendar which we use today on Earth. They
invented chocolate, herbal medicine, & basketball. The Aztecs were a group of people known to be
wandering around Central America, and claimed they were originally from Aztlan. The Aztecs were
separated into three classes of people. Talcotin ( low class; these people would mostly be slaves ),
macehualli ( middle class; commoners; would be artisans, farmers, and traders ), and pilli ( high
class; noble people; government officials and priests ). Most people of the Aztecs were commoners,
so they worked as farmers, traders, and artisans. A day for a commoner would be working out on the
field, trading items, or working on building stuff. Aztecs were very religious and known for their
practice of human sacrifice. Eventually the Spaniards and a nearby tribe called Tlaxcala defeated the
Aztec Empire and was

Bram Stoker's 'What Makes A Monster?'
Lauren Thornton
Mrs. Norton
Pre–AP English 10
30 August 2016
What Makes a Monster? Friedrich Nietzsche once said, "Whoever fights monsters should see to it
that in the process he does not become a monster." Monsters can be absolutely horrific to anyone.
They come in many different forms; there are the typical horror story monsters, despicable human
beings, substance abusers, and the thoughts that go through one's mind every day.
Typically, horror stories feature vicious creatures that are not quite human. They often have some
sort of supernatural power or unusual feature that adds a sense of danger and makes them truly
terrifying. Bram Stoker, author of the classic novel Dracula, described his monster as having
sparkling red eyes, a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Tyler Joseph, lead singer of popular band Twenty One Pilots, has created a character
called Blurryface. Blurryface is literally a personified version of Joseph's insecurities. Blurryface
tells him that he is worthless and unloved, that his fans do not truly care about him, and that he
needs to make music that caters to the audience in order to make money rather than write what he
truly wants to write. Joseph embraces this character by wearing black paint on his hands and neck to
represent how controlling and suffocating a mental illness can be. Blurryface forces Joseph to work
harder each day, not only to have a successful career in the music industry, but to get past what "he"
is trying to make him do (Pan). Award–winning novelist Stephen King once said, "Monsters are real
and ghosts are real too. They live inside of us, and sometimes they win (King)." This quote has a
scary truth to it, because even though many people do not believe in the typical Halloween horror
story creatures, they cannot escape the monster within themselves. Similarly, Charles Darwin has
said, "We stopped checking for monsters under our bed when we realized they were inside of us
(Darwin)." This quote just helps to emphasize the transition from being afraid of something that is
not real into something that becomes a daily fight for almost

The Corruption Of Gold Mining In Suriname
The history of Suriname's independence and their lucrative mountains of gold is complicated and
treacherous. Indigenous Tribes originally inhabited Suriname, and by the late 1650's the Governor of
Barbados, Lord Willoughby settled a colony called "Willoughbyland." Lord Willoughby began
construction on multiple plantations and in slaved thousands of Africans and indigenous people. The
colony was invaded in 1667 by the Dutch who established the official name of the colony as
'Suriname.' In 1863 as slavery was being abolished, small–scale gold mining commenced. As
Suriname gained independence in 1975 with prospects of gold triggering the second gold rush. The
beginning of small–scale indigenous miners and foreign large–scale mining corruption influenced
global environmental inequality in Suriname. In 2000, Ouboter et al. (2012) stated in his case study
that the Geological and Mining Survey of Suriname (GMD) estimated that the number of small–
scale gold miners in Suriname was between 25,000 and 35,000. (873) Gold mining in Suriname is
the most significant source of employment and main export of product in the country, because of
this, the indigenous people mine to provide for their families. These small–scale indigenous miners
use mercury to extract gold because it is the cheapest and easiest way to turn the product into profit.

They both got in the same exact way; climbing to the third–to–last step and then lightly hopping in.
Finally, it was my turn. I took a deep breath and said goodbye to my sweet world, then jumped in.
To my surprise, I didn't die. In fact, the first things I saw were tons of beautiful fish. Clown fish,
tuna, angelfish, and more! No piranhas, no sharks, a few harmless eels, and no octopi! A few feet

Pacu Fish In New Jersey
New Jersey has had its share of water scares in the past week as Pacu fish have been caught in a
freshwater lake and a deadly Portuguese Man of War have washed ashore from the ocean. Is water

Jersey shore?
New Jersey Freshwater Fears: Pacu Fish, the "Nutcracker" Fish
Local Jersey residents Ron and Frank Rossi caught a frightening fish in Swedes Lake, a man–made
lake in southern New Jersey. The father–son fishing duo at first thought it may be a piranha

Officials have taken this opportunity to remind pacu pet owners to humanely dispose of the cousin
to piranhas when they no longer can take care of the fish rather than dump them in a lake. Especially
one populated by fishermen who just may have something a bit too tasty for the fish to pass up.
Officials and marine biology experts believe the lone Portuguese Man of War traveled along the
Gulf Stream, floating along from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the chillier coast of New
Jersey with it's gas–filled bladder called a pneumatophore pushing it along like a sail. However, they
don't think another one will make an appearance any time soon.

War, lake lovers and beach goers may not have to shun their summer fun after all in New

Peruvian Jungle Culture : Switch To Peruvian Jungle Culture
For a well–educated, successful man from the United States, the switch to Peruvian jungle culture
jarred him. Nothing that Todd had accomplished in his studies could scrape a bit of respect out of
the natives. "That I went to college was sort of... 'huh, I guess that's cool'. What college? Didn't
matter. Graduate school? Did not matter. It was can you farm, can you fish," Dr. Davis told me.
"People would literally, like an old Western, look at your hands when they met you. You'd shake
hands with somebody, and they'd take your hands and turn them over, to see your calluses." As a
weight lifter since a young age, Todd had those calluses, as well as the strength to farm, fish, and
canoe; his canoeing skill especially surprised the natives. He had picked up a formidable canoeing
ability from summer camps and boat trips in his past, and the fact that a white person could canoe as
well as Todd shocked the villagers he worked with. But Todd found canoeing and the strength that
came with his weightlifting as his only transferable skills from his home country to Peru. The
fishing and farming in the jungle differed greatly from Todd's experiences. Often, people would say,
"you're useless", seeming cruel to an outsider, but in reality, the natives teased each other in the
same way. The people of the village acted kindly to Todd; he never felt that they threatened him
physically or endangered him, and in fact, they would go to great lengths to protect him later on.

Personal Narrative-Lost In The Rainforest

  • 1. Personal Narrative-Lost In The Rainforest Lost in the Rainforest I was travelling through the rainforest when I lost my way. It was terrible. I got bitten by bugs, attacked by animals, and had nothing to eat or drink. Monkeys stole my map and wouldn't give it back. I chased those monkeys, begging for my map, but I think they were laughing at me. Needless to say, I didn't get my map back. I tried to find my way out, but I kept walking in circles. On my journey, I saw a river. I leaned over to take a drink, and a fish bit my nose. It must have been a piranha. I tried to look for a lake without piranhas, because I already had a sore nose, and I didn't want to end up with a sore mouth. Then I saw a banana tree, and I yelled out, "Food!" Why I did that, I don't know, because there was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. 10 Mario Game Persuasive Essay (Trying to) Make a Memorable Mario I'm well over 20 hours into Super Mario Maker and I have to admit, most of that's making Mario levels, not so much playing them. Maybe that's good since it's Mario maker, not player, but I'm getting ahead of myself. The game begins like the old Mario Bros. for Nintendo, but with no enemies and a sudden cliff. You're told the level's unfinished and you're asked to complete the level for your tutorial. Silhouettes of where to place enemies and blocks are strewn about, and you're walked through the basics, like shaking to change a unit's function or hiding power–ups in blocks. It's good for the basics, but it doesn't walk players through the concept of good level design. You start out with brick blocks, "?" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Course world gives you 100 in the 100 Mario Challenge, but they both have one important rule: 1– ups don't take effect until you've beaten a level (but earning one is stored even if you die), and you can't gain more than three 1–Up mushrooms at the end of the level, which helps mix things up for the 10 Mario Challenge, but in levels where a designer has more than three traps, it means you're coming out of that challenge at a loss most of the time. Worse yet, many of the "expert" level designers use few to no coins or 1–Ups, making your ability to recover from your losses even more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Liars Poker Analysis John Snow October 31st, 2013 Business in Society Liar's Poker Analysis The book Liar's Poker begins with Michael Lewis, the author saying "Wall Street," reads the sinister old gag, "is a street with a river at one end and a graveyard at the other." This quote, symbolizing competitiveness, refers to the river as growth and prosperity and the graveyard as death in a company proves to be the fundamental principle that led Michael Lewis to write this book. The book portrays Michael Lewis' time with Salomon Brothers (SB), the largest bond dealer in the 1980s. It outlines the business model that SB used to maximize capital in the mortgage bond market. By the mid– 1980's SB had become the most influential bond dealer in the market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were able to take advantage of the situation and control the market by offering whatever price they thought was fitting. Even though this seemed like a genius play it was by stroke of luck that this was all able to happen. If interest rates remained fixed SB would have never been as successful as history tells us and the mortgage bond division would have probably been terminated in the near future. Even though floating interest rates was a stroke of luck, SB was able to take full advantage of the situation while it lasted. Since SB was already inept to mortgage bonds they were able to compete at the top of the market far before anyone could even enter. It is said that SB had monopolized the mortgage bond market and were able to set the price buying and selling bonds rapidly. The change to floating rates may have been lucky but the determination, skill and grit of SB to dominate the mortgage bond market was what led them to become wealthy in the early 1980s. Michael Lewis' success within the business is a microcosm for the business as a whole. Michael Lewis started as an unsuccessful Art Major out of Princeton. He got his big break when he attended a dinner for the Queen Mother at St. James Palace. At this point in his career, Lewis became interested in Wall Street due to the fact that that is where the money was at. While he was at this dinner he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Bad Guys Chapter Summary The Bad Guys (Episode 1), written by Aaron Blabey, is about four bad animals on their journey to be good guys. It has both pictures and words. This book has received a lot of positive reviews and has also won two awards (Blabey, 2015). We are able to convey feelings, ideas and concepts through written language and visual images (Callow, 2013). The text and images in The Bad Guys let us laugh when we are reading it. Callow (2013), the work of linguist Michael Halliday suggests that each text, whether written or visual can be asked by field, tenor and mode. The three areas of register are written and drawn perfectly which in turn allows us to understand the text and images easily. (Callow (2013) also states that images give us more details on the situation. For example, page 108 of The Bad Guys, the text shows that Mr. Wolf is very excited about his plan but we do not know how Mr. Piranha and Mr. Snake feels about it. By looking at the image, we can see that they are not thrilled with the plan. The images provide us with information we cannot find out from written text. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of operating separately from the words, images operate alongside, around, over and even under them (Winch, 2015). Winch (2015) also states that words and images function together and both contribute to meaning–making. Using page 119 of The Bad Guys as an example, the pictures show Mr. Snake and Mr. Piranha wrapped around a hook which is flying through the air. Notice how the word 'WHOOSH' was written alongside the rope instead of somewhere else on the page? This shows the readers that 'WHOOSH' is a sound that is made when something is being thrown and readers can easily understand it. If the word was written somewhere else on the page, readers may have a hard time understanding what is the purpose of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Glass Frogs Caimans vary in size from one meter for the dwarf caiman to almost five meters for the black caiman. They are most closely related to alligators and crocodiles. Their diet consists of fish, insects, birds, and small mammals and reptiles. Jaguars and humans are the only predators of caimans. Females build large nests and lay anywhere from 10 to 50 eggs which hatch in about six weeks. The temperature determines the gender of the babies. The mother then takes her young to a shallow pool to learn to hunt and swim. Juvenile caimens stay with their parents for around a year and a half. Once a juvenile reaches adult length, it is able to reproduce. If they survive long enough, they can continue to grow until reaching a size that may exceed 2.4 meters. (a–z–animals.com; animal diversity.ummz.umich.edu) Glass frogs have a translucent underbelly exposing the liver, heart, and intestines. Scientists believe that this is some sort of camouflage. Glass frogs have excellent eyesight which allows them to easily detect when prey is near. They are carnivorous–eating insects and spiders. Their main predators are snakes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Piranhas are omnivorous and will eat almost anything that it can find. Its diet mainly consists of snails, insects, fish, and aquatic plants. They will occasionally eat birds or larger mammals that fall into the water. Piranhas are eaten by river dolphins, crocodiles, turtles, birds, larger fish, and humans who hunt them for food. They are usually found in fast flowing rivers where there is enough food to go around. Since piranhas live in large shoals, competition for food is fierce and feeding frenzies can occur when there is blood in the water or when a shortage of food occurs. In April and May, piranhas mate. They move, in pairs, to slower moving waters and prepare a nest. The female then lays an average of 5000 eggs of which, usually 90 percent survive. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Extinction Of Beaked Whales The extinction of the beaked whales! Underwater noise is noise that the humans make during experiments underwater, and I am certain underwater noise can effect the extinction of whales, beaked whales, to be exact. Beaked whales are whales that use noise to communicate. Any type of unusual noises underwater can cause problems, so if there is a background coming from our equipment then they can't really communicate. You might be thinking, " It should be okay if they can't communicate." Well you are wrong. You see, whales use there communication as a backup if they are in trouble, such as being attacked, or even stuck for that matter. For example, A beaked whale is looking for food around his living area, and this same whale takes a wrong turn into a group of piranhas or sharks. You and I know he is in a heap of trouble. He tries to escape, but the sharks or piranhas are too fast. Then, he tries to call out to his other whales. Well, if there is a noise from the humans, then they can't hear him call. • 17. How To Write A Narrative Essay About Fishing It seemed like a good idea at the time. Shortly after, I found out the opposite. When in the 5th grade, I would often bike across my neighborhood to a public park with a small pond in it. I went fishing in it with my friend, David, or sometimes even my little sister. While practicing a catch–and–release style of fishing regularly, I decided to bring a fish home one day. On the hazy summer day, I was a carefree dolphin, cruising down the hill at a relaxed speed. My bicycle had a metal rack behind the seat, to which I Duck–Taped a bucket onto, with the purpose of carrying my tackle box and fishing rod. My sister was closing in from behind on her purple Barbie bike by the time I made it to the gravel path that led to the pond. When we got to the spot, I setup my sister's line first, then I dropped my own hook down, right below the dock. Almost immediately, a bluegill devoured the small chunk of a Slim Jim like a blood–thirsty piranha. After I caught around 30 panfish, I landed one fish with very vibrant colors. I decided I wanted to bring it home and keep it as a pet. So just before me and my sister departed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While at the dinner table, I told my mom all about my new pet; she did not seem amused. She told me that we already have enough pets and that we don not have anywhere to keep the fish. She also made it very clear that if it died in my possession, I would be susceptible to a just punishment. My mother always found a way to convince me, her diction seemed to be as intelligent as Shakespeare's; she instructed me to put the fish back into the pond. So, I did just ... • 19. Does Jason Momoa Lose His Arm For Aquaman followers, it is a known fact that the DC super hero loses his arm in the comics. The question is, will Jason Momoa's character also be losing the very same arm? If Jason Momoa's appearance holds any clue, it may just follow Peter David's version of the character. Peter David, the writer of the Time and Tide series, gives the super hero a rugged look. He forgoes the clean cut appearance and gives him a long beard and rugged facial features. In the comics and the TV animation series, Aquaman loses his left hand to several different stories. One, he tries to save his mother and son from destruction while he is cuffed somewhere else. He did not have a choice but to cut his arm off. Another story features a piranha scenario. Charbydis, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. Parable And In Praise Of Feelings Bad About Yourself By... Morality is "the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior" (Oxford Dictionary n.d.). Szymborska's perspective on morality can be seen in the poems Parable and In Praise of Feeling Bad About Yourself. She uses symbolism to convey her view point that people are intrinsically immoral but at the same time that the awareness of being immoral is a defining feature of human nature. The poem Parable uses public and worldly symbols such as the ocean and the desert island while In Praise... contains bestial symbols to portray her perspective on the aspects of human morality which she deems intrinsic to humanity. Collectively, these poems allow the reader a glimpse into Szymborska's outlook on life and allowed her to offer a different perspective to the reader, potentially challenging the reader's beliefs on morality or imparting a new perspective onto the reader. Parable is from a collection of poems called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the lines, "That's how it goes with/universal truths" , Szymborska is referring to the universal truth that everyone is immoral. The word Parable in the title also suggests that there is a moral to be taught in the story. Even though the fishermen are conscious of a person who is possibly at risk of death on an island in the ocean, they are willing to ignore it. This could represent Szymborska's belief that humanity's immoral nature is a universal truth and that there is no such thing as a moral person because by knowing that people are suffering and at risk of death, like the person on the island, doing nothing is ... • 27. Tears Of Wine Essay The term "tears of wine" refers to a well–known everyday phenomenon. When a two–component liquid evaporates in a container, preferential evaporation of one component induces solutal and thermal Marangoni stresses that let the liquid climb the walls of the container. Eventually, the liquid ridge having developed that way becomes unstable and is pulled back to the container by gravity, forming structures reminiscent of tears [1]. This effect is having great importance both on fundamental and technological processes, e.g., lubrication, oil recovery, emulsification, microfluidic devices, or coating processes. Extensive research works have been reported to understand Margngoni effect on liquid film spreading, small droplet/particle transport and manipulation, flow instabilities [2–4], etc. One striking feature is that most of them were focused on flat interfaces. Recent works show that, in addition to the liquid–vapor interfacial tension gradient that renders Marangoni stresses, the curvature of the solid–liquid substrate (which can be treated as a confinement and plays a crucial role in ... • 29. The Theme Of Symbolism In 'Sandkings' Draft In the sci–fi, horror short story "Sandkings" lives humans and aliens alike in a futuristic land of technological advancement. The main character, Simon Kress, lives in apparent abundance, with all the art pieces, ancient artifacts, exotic animals he wants in a sprawling manor. Such a convenient and indulgent environment deteriorates around him, however. He soon finds himself back in unforgiving nature, hungry and crawling due to his own actions. Through this development, George R. R. Martin explores the savage nature of humanity. Their fragile status at the top of the food chain is threatened by their thirst for entertainment and power, leading to the main character's downfall at the hands of the mirrored sandkings. The beginning of the story features Kress living in the aforementioned sprawling manor with his very own zoo he likes to show off. Foreshadowing of his reckless care taking of the sandkings, Kress contemplates that "The piranha could always eat each other if he were detained longer than expected. They'd done it before. It amused him...When he finally returned, all the fish were dead" (1). His amusement of the piranha cannibalizing eachother establishes his character early on as lack in compassion. Furthermore, he simply goes and finds a store to replace his dead pets, showing that animals are treated as a commodity to be consumed. The lack of regard for the wellbeing of animals is further demonstrated in Kress' starvation of the sandkings and hosting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Amazon has a tropical rainforest climate with humid/warm weather, one season, and heavy rain getting between 1,500 mm and 3,000 mm a year. Despite the Amazon being a cradle of life, the Amazon river dolphins are being threatened with extinction. Contamination of their habitats, fishing, and humans killing them for bait are the main contributors to their endangered status. Their extinction threatens the disruption of the river ecosystem of the Amazon Rainforest, because there will be an unbalance of predator and prey, causing other species' populations to fluctuate negatively or positively. Human constructed dams separate the dolphins, leading to small populations that are hard to build up. Pollution of their river habitats, caused by humans, are killing the dolphins as well as their food sources. Other than pollution and dams, fishing boats harm and kill dolphins. For one, dolphins get caught in fishing nets, and are harmed that way. Two, people try to chase them away from scaring of the fish, often hurting them in this process. Three, they are hunted to be used for bait for the catfish industry. Four, the Amazon river dolphins are naturally curious, and will come up to boats and get hit by the boat's propeller. This behavior of curiosity, along with others, contribute to their extinction, besides humans. A behavior that contributes to the Amazon river dolphins being endangered is that they are solitary. This leaves them without protection, and it heightens their chance of being killed. This is, because if you are in a large crowd, the chances of you being the one eaten are lower. However, the smaller the group, the more likely you will be eaten. Another trait that is they are active during the day. We are told how the bridge between the two shores is destroyed and Beyonce has to make a particular sacrifice to Gilligan for her to be able to be with Pat,who is separated from her by a river full of hungry piranhas. This story has all types of twists and turns that display the true colors of each character involved. I personally believe that Bubba could be categorized as the most horrible for beating Pat in the manner he did. I don't think it was actually necessary to have a violent encounter with Pat. Second in line, I feel Beyonce earned a spot for allowing Bubba to brutalize Pat and for subsequently watching and laughing at the whole ordeal. Next is Pat for breaking Beyonce's heart by essentially shaming her for doing what she had to in order to be with him. While it was a less than ideal way of her getting a way to the other shore, it was all she was able to do,save for trying to actually swim in the river. I understand him being possibly upset, but to completely get rid of her when the only reason she did this act was to be with him, is very telling to me. Number 4 is Gilligan because he could've switched services with Beyonce that did not involve sexual favors that she did not honestly want to do. 5 is the least horrible, and that is Jesus for the reason that he did not directly do anything to really influence how the story went. When you think of a rainforest you usually imagine it's giant trees and very green plants. You would also imagine the type of animals that live there and most people imagine Toucans, Red– eyed tree frogs, but most of all the Bengal Tiger. Why? Well, it's mostly because of what we've learned from school but also because of how often we see them online. And the reason that we see them so often is because of how much they are decreasing in population. Bengal Tigers are endangered species and so many organizations are trying their best to save them from extinction. It's known for being the largest rainforest on the planet. Most of the jungle lies in Brazil. The Amazon Rainforest also holds the Amazon River. According to the National Science Foundation, the Aamazon Rriver is the longest river in the world by volume and contains twenty percent of the Earth's freshwater. Being as big a it is, the Aamazon holds a massive number of different types of species of wildlife with different kinds of sub–ecosystems to provide for them. When I think of the Amazon I first think of the terrestrial ecosystems. These are the land based environments. For the most part, these toothy little buggers have gotten a bad rap from movies and other media venues. Piranhas rarely attack nor do they specifically seek out humans. In doing research for this trip I ran across the adage "Piranhas do not eat people, people eat piranha." Bram Stoker, author of the classic novel Dracula, described his monster as having sparkling red eyes, a very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Tyler Joseph, lead singer of popular band Twenty One Pilots, has created a character called Blurryface. Blurryface is literally a personified version of Joseph's insecurities. Blurryface tells him that he is worthless and unloved, that his fans do not truly care about him, and that he needs to make music that caters to the audience in order to make money rather than write what he truly wants to write. Joseph embraces this character by wearing black paint on his hands and neck to represent how controlling and suffocating a mental illness can be. Blurryface forces Joseph to work harder each day, not only to have a successful career in the music industry, but to get past what "he" is trying to make him do (Pan). Award–winning novelist Stephen King once said, "Monsters are real and ghosts are real too. They live inside of us, and sometimes they win (King)." This quote has a scary truth to it, because even though many people do not believe in the typical Halloween horror story creatures, they cannot escape the monster within themselves. Similarly, Charles Darwin has said, "We stopped checking for monsters under our bed when we realized they were inside of us (Darwin)." This quote just helps to emphasize the transition from being afraid of something that is not real into something that becomes a daily fight for almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. The Corruption Of Gold Mining In Suriname The history of Suriname's independence and their lucrative mountains of gold is complicated and treacherous. Indigenous Tribes originally inhabited Suriname, and by the late 1650's the Governor of Barbados, Lord Willoughby settled a colony called "Willoughbyland." Lord Willoughby began construction on multiple plantations and in slaved thousands of Africans and indigenous people. The colony was invaded in 1667 by the Dutch who established the official name of the colony as 'Suriname.' In 1863 as slavery was being abolished, small–scale gold mining commenced. As Suriname gained independence in 1975 with prospects of gold triggering the second gold rush. The beginning of small–scale indigenous miners and foreign large–scale mining corruption influenced global environmental inequality in Suriname. In 2000, Ouboter et al. (2012) stated in his case study that the Geological and Mining Survey of Suriname (GMD) estimated that the number of small– scale gold miners in Suriname was between 25,000 and 35,000. (873) Gold mining in Suriname is the most significant source of employment and main export of product in the country, because of this, the indigenous people mine to provide for their families. These small–scale indigenous miners use mercury to extract gold because it is the cheapest and easiest way to turn the product into profit. Mercury is used to clump the smaller pieces of gold together as its being sifted through the sluice box. The mercury that isn't being clumped together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Personal Narrative: A Short Story It was a sunny day, but I was shivering from fear. While the rest of my family was getting into their scuba gear, I was composing a silent prayer to God. See, I have a fear of drowning. It's a very, um, sensitive subject. But don't judge me about it. Most of the time I don't go into a pool without goggles. I feel like I'm gonna drown. But this, this was different. I had all of the necessities for scuba diving, but this time I had something else to worry about. I was going to go underwater, in the sea, with all the eels that could electrocute me, and sharks that could bite me in half like I was a Daniel sandwich, and octopi that could pull me deeper into the water and drown me. But worse, piranhas. I was pretty sure they could swarm ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I felt like running into the boathouse, knocking out the sailor, and sailing all the way home. But for some stupid reason, I didn't. Suddenly, I slammed into a mass of fat and blubber. For a second, I thought a walrus had boarded the ship along with us, but it turns out it was just my brother. "Hey!!!" he yelled. I just kept walking like I hadn't noticed. After that, we started heading into the water. My mum was the first one in. She just climbed in, without a splash. My brother was next. He cannonballed, but not too hard. He knew it would scare the fish. My sister and my dad were next. Clown fish, tuna, angelfish, and more! No piranhas, no sharks, a few harmless eels, and no octopi! A few feet away, the rest my family gazed around at the endless amounts of wildlife. The experience was indescribable, stunning, mind blowing. Nothing could have matched the amazingness of this. Nothing. But soon, it was time to get out. "Come on! Just a bit longer? Please??" I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Pacu Fish In New Jersey New Jersey has had its share of water scares in the past week as Pacu fish have been caught in a freshwater lake and a deadly Portuguese Man of War have washed ashore from the ocean. Is water the most dangerous place for the Garden State as these mysterious creatures find their way to the Jersey shore? New Jersey Freshwater Fears: Pacu Fish, the "Nutcracker" Fish Local Jersey residents Ron and Frank Rossi caught a frightening fish in Swedes Lake, a man–made lake in southern New Jersey. The father–son fishing duo at first thought it may be a piranha (http://www.extremescience.com/piranha.htm) until further inspection of the ghastly teeth revealed a set that looked strangely similar to human teeth. The fish they happened to pull in was an omnivorous Pacu ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as their popularity rises, so do the number of pacu released into man–made lakes. Officials have taken this opportunity to remind pacu pet owners to humanely dispose of the cousin to piranhas when they no longer can take care of the fish rather than dump them in a lake. Especially one populated by fishermen who just may have something a bit too tasty for the fish to pass up. Officials and marine biology experts believe the lone Portuguese Man of War traveled along the Gulf Stream, floating along from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the chillier coast of New Jersey with it's gas–filled bladder called a pneumatophore pushing it along like a sail. However, they don't think another one will make an appearance any time soon. As of now with such isolated incidents of the single Pacu fish catch and the lone Portuguese Man of War, lake lovers and beach goers may not have to shun their summer fun after all in New ... • 75. Colombia Geography Did you know that Colombia is named after Christopher Columbus? He saw the coasts of what is now Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama in 1492. He saw the beautiful landscape, and the amazing diversity of the wildlife and plants. Colombia has maintained these amazing qualities to this day. That is what makes it Colombia. There are many landforms in Colombia, each fitting into ecosystems that are intricately unique. The Amazon river is a habitat for animals (black caimans, piranhas, giant river otters, and pink dolphins) that are part of the surrounding Amazon rainforest ecosystem. The Colombian landscape is admittedly in many ways like other South American countries, but is nevertheless astonishing. There are the Andes mountains, the Amazon rainforest, the grassland plains, and a small area of desert. Some interesting landforms include the Andean Highlands, the Middle Magdalena Basin, Mt. Ritacuba Blanco, the Cumbal volcano. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 77. Peruvian Jungle Culture : Switch To Peruvian Jungle Culture For a well–educated, successful man from the United States, the switch to Peruvian jungle culture jarred him. Nothing that Todd had accomplished in his studies could scrape a bit of respect out of the natives. "That I went to college was sort of... 'huh, I guess that's cool'. What college? Didn't matter. Graduate school? Did not matter. It was can you farm, can you fish," Dr. Davis told me. "People would literally, like an old Western, look at your hands when they met you. You'd shake hands with somebody, and they'd take your hands and turn them over, to see your calluses." As a weight lifter since a young age, Todd had those calluses, as well as the strength to farm, fish, and canoe; his canoeing skill especially surprised the natives. He had picked up a formidable canoeing ability from summer camps and boat trips in his past, and the fact that a white person could canoe as well as Todd shocked the villagers he worked with. But Todd found canoeing and the strength that came with his weightlifting as his only transferable skills from his home country to Peru. The fishing and farming in the jungle differed greatly from Todd's experiences. Often, people would say, "you're useless", seeming cruel to an outsider, but in reality, the natives teased each other in the same way. The people of the village acted kindly to Todd; he never felt that they threatened him physically or endangered him, and in fact, they would go to great lengths to protect him later on. The ...
