The Journey as Depicted in My Place by Sally Morgan, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, The
Transall Saga and Pay it Forward
The inner journey is a concept that has always been debated, and so has its meaning. The word
'inner' has the alternative meaning of personal. Moreover, the word journey has an alternative
meaning of movement. So, the concept of the inner journey, customarily, has the meaning of a
personal movement. Inner journeys have often been described as the metaphor behind a physical
journey. The statement 'Journey is the reward' and the idea of a personal movement are depicted in
the texts, My Place by Sally Morgan, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, The Transall Saga and
Pay it Forward. 'My Place' is the autobiographical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It must be noted that inner journeys are plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that no
one can escape. As Robert Frost says in 'The Road Not Taken', 'Two roads diverged in a yellow
wood.'
In Sally's quest for information, she met a lady called 'Elsie' who gave her a great depth and insight
into her Grandmother and the past. In Sally's mind, her journey was definitely rewarded and this
made her feel 'full inside'. Sally's mother, Gladys, had also found an new sense of fulfillment which
completed her as a whole, because she was previously only 'half a person'. For Sally, it was her
determination and 'stubborn' nature which meant that she was rewarded, because in her heart she
realized that unless the family went on such an epic journey 'we never would have known our place'.
Sally said 'What had begun as a tentative search for knowledge had grown into a spiritual and
emotional pilgrimage'. This journey of self discovery, enlightenment and acceptance, were all key
discerning factors in how, for Sally, the journey was a rewarding experience.
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, is another text which represents how the journey, alone, can
be a rewarding experience. The Road Not Taken, is the poem about a man who is exploring the
choices that he once had, as he made his journey through lfe. It is the

Examples Of Functionalism In Pay It Forward
The film Pay it forward depicts a 7th grade boy, Trevor, who is given an assignment from a social
studies teacher. The assignment is to create a way to make the world a better place in which Trevor
comes up with paying it forward. To pay I forward Trevor helps one person and challenges them to
help 3 more people eventually getting everyone who helps others challenge someone else to pay it
forward. Through his mothers' alcoholism and his teachers' support Trevor helps people throughout
his state to another pay it forward. The film Pay it forward represents sociological perspectives such
as Functionalism, conflict perspective, and symbolic interactionism.
Pay it forward represents functionalism, the approach that emphasizes the contributions made by
each part of society to keep it functioning smoothly, in each characters lifestyle and background.
Society uses functionalism to understand what they are doing themselves. We depend on an overall
consensus of beliefs and values, mechanical solidarity, to give our lives its value. In the dramaturgy,
Arlene is a perfect example of someone using mechanical solidarity working a degrading job also
allowing sexism to be a part of what values she has for herself. Society also is dependent on the
specialization of roles, organic solidarity. The 7th graders not believing they can ... Show more

An example of conflict perspective would be Arlene's reaction to the homeless man she found in her
garage that Trevor brought home to "pay it forward." Arlene threatened the man with a gun and even
called him names because she was clueless on his intentions and society has told her it is not normal
for someone to randomly come fix your car. Also the depiction shows social conflict with the
homeless/alcohol and drug abusers, being set apart and unassociated with

Adversity Negative Effects
Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and
minor levels of the past, present and in fiction. We often see in all aspects the negatives that
adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from
the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times'
article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russia faces after a long time of
recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde's "Pay it Forward" One will read about the emotional and
mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. We
see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative consequences that go along
with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in success.
The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact
was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and
native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. "The Columbian
Exchange" by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the
Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came generations
after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1: "Smallpox
was the worst and most spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the

Pay It Forward Reflection
Humans are more connected than they have ever been. Under these circumstances, people can
impact those around them more easily and more profoundly than they might imagine. This impact is
prominently displayed in children, who typically adopt the mannerisms of their parents, for better or
for worse. However, humans impact those they do not closely interact with as well, and it is because
of this that one must carefully consider each decision. When society discusses the impact that people
have on one another, they generally speak about the conscious decisions that people make to change
another's life. These, like all things, can be good or bad. In the movie Pay it Forward, Trevor made a
choice to positively impact the lives of three people. He chose to let a homeless man stay in his
house, help two people find love, and stop the abuse of a friend. In all of these actions, Trevor
succeeded in making the lives of others better, even when it was to his detriment. This movie has
inspired many people to make a difference in the lives of others. Similarly, there has been a story
circulating the Internet recently that features a kindergartener who realized that her classmates did
not have money to buy milk. She decided that she would use her own allowance to help these kids.
She inspired so many that she was able to raise over $9,000 for her cause on GoFundMe. Perhaps
her classmates will remember this good deed and will feel motivated to do the same when they are
older. As

Jodee Parker's Please Stop Laughing At Me
Many people believe the world could always become a better place, but never do anything about it.
Jodee Blanco, Trevor McKinney, and George Washington are exceptions. Please Stop Laughing at
Me.. is a book written by Jodee Blanco, telling her story of abuse and torment, and how even
through thick and thin, she would always reach out and help a person in need. Pay it Forward, a
movie starring Trevor McKinney, tells the story of a seventh grade boy assigned with changing the
world. Our founding father, George Washington, led our country to war for what he believed was
right, democracy. Jodee Blanco, Trevor McKinney, and George Washington all started as average
people, but decided to stand up for what was right and make the world a better place. ... Show more

For many years of her childhood, she was constantly teased and abused because she was different.
Even through the abuse, Jodee always stayed kind and caring. One person she helped was her high
school friend Noreen. Jodee befriended the lonely girl in her speech class, later she learned how
much it helped Noreen. Noreen, just like Jodee, was constantly harassed for being different, leading
her to have no friends at the high school. Jodee gave Noreen someone to share her pain with, and
gave her someone she could trust in. Another person Jodee helped was Marianne. Jodee helped her
by working with the deaf children at Holy Ascension, treating Marianne like the little sister she
never had. She was an outcast from regular children and the deaf children as well. This was due to
the fact that even compared to the deaf kids she was different, and they couldn't understand her."... A

made what Jodee did even more important, because Marianne wasn't exactly the most wealthy, so
she had a life just as bad at home as at school, meaning so much more to have Jodee act as her big
sister.. Jodee also helped Rodger, a special ed student in her high school. She worked on a prom for
the special ed kids since they were not invited to the regular prom for their school. He was able to

Throughout the story the respondent is left wondering the reason behind the family's silence towards
each other. This statement only reinforces the idea that the core text, My Place, clearly depicts how
the journey is the reward. Sally Morgan uses a wide range of different techniques to convey her
physical and internal movement to disclose her family heritage and her own identity. The book itself
is structured in a completely original format. Sally has managed to make her story stand out by
separating each individual story, thus, the book is separated into her own story, her Uncle Arthur's
story, her mother's story and finally, her grandmother's story. It must be noted that inner journeys are
plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that no one can escape. As Robert Frost says in

The Pros And Cons Of Socrates
While my experience with faith has been positive, it is important to keep the possibility of negative
effects into consideration. For example, Socrates was charged for impiety and corrupting the youth
of Athens. Meletus, one of his accusers, strongly believed in the gods of Olympus, however, his
opinions and beliefs regarding faith led to the killing of the innocent Socrates. "I turn to the second
class, who are headed by Meletus, that good and patriotic man, as he calls himself... What do they
say? Something of this sort: – That Socrates is a doer of evil, and corrupter of the youth, and he does
not believe in the gods of the state, and has other new divinities of his own." According to this
quotation from Plato's Apology, Meletus considers himself to be a "good and patriotic man."
However, The accusations made against Socrates suggest that he is not all "good." These
accusations demonstrate how faith can sometimes lead one to become narrow minded and too
consumed with their own faith, which can then result in a disrespect towards those with different
beliefs. In addition, a personal and subjective faith in the spiritual has the possibility of going in the
wrong direction and be ungrounded and lead to error.
The different views towards Meletus relates to Descartes' Meditation II and the wax argument. "It
could certainly be nothing of all that the senses brought to my notice, since all these things which
fall under taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing, are found to be

Pay It Forward Examples
It is possible for an idea to change the world. Both examples from the movie, Pay it Forward and
from actual history prove that the world could change due to a single idea.
An example of an idea changing the world could be found in the movie, Pay it Forward. In the
movie, a 12–year–old boy, Trevor, came up with the idea of helping three people with something
they couldn't have done by themselves and in return each of them had to help three people with
something they couldn't do by themselves (paying the favor forward). Trevor first attempts this idea
by taking in a homeless man. The homeless man in return, repaired the car Trevor's mom was trying
to sell. Later in the story the man comes across a woman about to commit suicide and persuade her

Troubles In Pay It Forward
Having troubles in one's lives can be shown in many ways, such as events in the past, events that are
occurring today, or in novels. During the time of the Renaissance, a humanist named Francesco
Petrarca discusses his journey of climbing a mountain which is a metaphor for reaching success,
although he encounters troubles and doubts, he overcame them and succeeded. A bold woman
named Kristina Erikson has been sexually harassed twice, and instead of not telling anyone and
letting this event eat her alive, she spoke up and has made a difference for many college women.
From the novel titled as Pay It Forward, a young boy named Trevor experiences disbeliefs along the
way of the growth of his new project. Although all of these people approach different types of
troubles, they all learn different ways to solve them. Showing courage in the face of one's adversity
can lead to one's growth.
Adversity is defined as: "a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune."
(Merriam Webster) The Father of Humanism, also know as Francesco Petrarca, has experienced
these types of adversities and has grown from them and received triumphancy. "I have been tossed

Individuality In Gordie's Pay It Forward
Society is weird, you have to fit in to ensure that you are accepted but they encourage individuality.
With individuality, you are still expected to meet some criteria, at that point is it still individuality?
You are also supposed to be yourself, but don't be yourself too much because then you will be an
outcast and society won't like you. In Pay It Forward I saw this happen to my favourite character
Gordie. Now Gordie was just being himself, he knew that the moment a "boy" dressed like a "girl" it
would cause conflict. Gordie just wanted to be Gordie or Sheila but society wouldn't have it that
way. Gordie is one of the stronger characters in this novel. He is gets beaten up by his stepfather;

A hard shoe in the middle of his back knocked him forward again. He fell loosely, like a sock doll,
struck his nose on the concrete. Felt the blood flow down his lip and tasted its metallic flavor at the
back of his throat. Something personal and familiar." (Hyde, 189)
Gordie was himself and he got beaten up for it. Many people encourage you being yourself. But
when come down to it, when yourself is not something that fits societies standards things happen
and people get hurt. You get picked on, beaten up, sexually assaulted, and sometimes killed. Gordie
is a powerful character he didn't stop being himself, no matter what it meant for him. When society
doesn't like you, don't stop being you. There is only one of you and you have to stand up for
yourself and be true to who you are.
The Gordie character shows how messed up society can treat a person. He shows how important the
fight for LGBT+ rights was during this time. He had received death threats from people regarding
the death of one young Trevor McKinney, but Gordie didn't let that bother him all that much. He had
to show power and he had to show that people awful and how they like to point fingers and basically
they always need someone to

Summary Of Pay It Forward By Catherine Hyde
Summary: Pay It Forward, written by Catherine Hyde, is about a boy named Trevor who was tasked
by his teacher create a plan that would better the world. Trevor then devised the "Pay It Forward"
program, a branching system of good deeds under the notion that instead of paying back a favor, a
person would instead do favors of high importance for three other people. Although his first favor
attempt with a homeless man appeared to have failed, Trevor's second favor for his teacher began a
chain of events that lead to the sparing of one's man life. Soon Trevor's idea become a national event
that promotes altruistic acts, even resulting with his first act of kindness to pay his favor forward.

What Is The Dramatic Change In Pay It Forward
Clermondo Erisme Pay It Forward In the movie ,"Pay It Forward" , a new idea that would bring
change to the world at an incredible pace was called pay it forward system. It was the act of one
person returning a favor received from another to three other people. This system changed the view
point of Eugene Simonet not because it caused him to stop running away. Throughout the movie
Eugene Simonet shows difficult opening up to people and letting them know what makes him tick.

because of his burns from his childhood. As the story progresses the viewer begins to realize the

beginning it seemed like she was missing the control of her life that she needed and everything just
walked all over her which led her to drink excessively. When she finally fixed her moral compass
she changed her self and he attitude towards life. Arlene dumped her abusive husband, regained

Trevor's Pay-It-Forwardism: An Amazing Movement
Pay–it–forwardism is an amazing movement, but there are many flaws to the movement. When
watching the movie one flaw that I saw in "pay–it–forwardism" is how Trevor brought a homeless
man into his home. Trevor provides the homeless man with food, shower, and somewhere to sleep,
but Trevor does not know that the homeless man is a drug addict. Bringing a drug addict into his
house put himself and his mother life into danger and at serious risk because drug–addicts tend to
steal and physically hurt others who have more than them. Luckily the homeless man did not hurt
Trevor or his mother, but this is still a major flaw, in 'pay–it– forwardism". Trevor was willing to
risk his life by bringing a stranger into his home. Trevor idea to bring home

unfortunately events such as this occur nonetheless. When involving myself with my UNI

Pay It Forward Movie Analysis
A great movie captures the audience by creating a realistic depiction of the life and development of
dynamic characters. One magical moment in Pay it Forward, occurs when Mr. Simonet and Arlene
kiss for the first time – a distraught mother at rock bottom with alcohol and work, and her son's
astute social studies teacher, turned lovers. Scandalous! The movie Pay it Forward was directed by
Mimi Leder, and produced by Warner Brothers Studio in 2000. Pay it Forward has been rated two
out of five stars by Rotten Tomatoes, and three and a half out of five stars by IMDb. It tells the story
of an eleven–year–old boy, Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) doing a social studies project for
his teacher, Mr. Eugene Simonet (Kevin Spacey) – the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One criterion of a good movie is its use of dynamic character development. This can be seen in the
scene where Arlene's ex–husband, Ricky (Jon Bon Jovi) returns home. He becomes drunk and starts
verbally abusing Arlene and threatening Trevor. No longer a submissive wife, she quickly throws
Ricky out of the house. Arlene has learned to protect herself and her son, rather than please a man.
Another example is the development of Mr. Simonet. In the beginning of the movie, he was a harsh
teacher who showed little sympathy. Through his relationship with Arlene, Mr. Simonet grows to be
compassionate and sympathetic towards the McKinney's situation. This use of dynamic character
development implies a sense of motion and drives the plot. Furthermore, the musical selection for a
movie is just as important as the plot. Without music, there would be no suspense or drama. For
example, when Trevor is in his room hiding from his parents yelling, he turns on the radio to listen
to "Last Resort" by Papa Roach. The song is about wanting to end the internal suffering and agony
through self–harm and/or suicide. The lyrics, I'm contemplating suicide 'Cause I'm losing my sight
Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine are important to the scene because they
convey Trevor's emotional struggle. Trevor yearns for his mother to be happy and free from Ricky,
but Trevor wants to be happy as well. Using music, Robert Townson

Pay It Forward Reflection
A young boy in social studies class is given an assignment, along with the rest of the students, to
come up with an idea that could change the world. As well as coming up with an idea, the students
also have to put it into action. Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know nor understand
how a kid his age can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from school, he passes up
a site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can change the world comes to
him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help three, and so on. This begins
his plan to "Pay it Forward."
The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by Mimi Leder at
Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG–13 drama. Starring in this
movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt (Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment

main idea of the movie is for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and do it not
just talk about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out bigger than he
could have imagined.

The Importance Of Literature In Literature
A common question some people ask is if kids should still learn about previous literary works in
school. Why do people think this? An example of literature being questioned and not taught in
schools as frequently is Shakespeare, there is a common belief among people that Shakespeare's
work does not reflect modern time and has lost its relevance. However, we continue to see literary
devices that Shakespeare used in modern works today. Shakespeare employed literary tools, along
with his understanding of the flaws in human nature, in a effective manner to continue to be relied

to figure out where the movement started in the book Pay It Forward,
Chris: "Tell me how this movement started.
Sidney: I tol' you. Started in my head.
Chris: You must be a really smart guy.
Sidney: I am.
Chris: How did you think of something this big?
Sidney: Just kinda came to me..." (Hyde 200).
Dramatic irony is used in this quote because the reader knows from throughout the book that Trevor
created the movement of Paying it Forward for a class project to change the world, however, Sidney
G is trying to take credit for it. The interviewer is trying to figure out how something so simple
could be changing the world, and believes it started with Sidney G. Sidney is using words like
"kinda came to me" and "started in my head" so he Chris is not able to tell that he didn't create it.
This makes the readers very anxious because we know that Trevor created it. The audience is
angered and makes the

Racism In Miss Congeniality
American History: Our Hope for the Future In the movie Miss Congeniality, all of the contestants
are asked what they wished for. Coincidentally, all of the pageant contestants replied confidently
with ¨world peace." That famous line has now turned into a well–known punchline due to how
stereotypical and obvious it is. All joking aside, that is actually what everyone strives for in their
lifetime. World peace has unfortunately been absent in past occurrences. For example, blacks were
greatly mistreated by many in a harmful and unkind way. Back when slavery was present, kindness
was absent. Despite all of the past happenings, hope for a more loving world still has a chance to
prosper. In the past, racism was very prevalent. Hate towards others was a substantial conflict.
Whites and African Americans were separated in pretty much every aspect possible. Simple rights
citizens now take for granted, such as voting, were once the goals of people of color. People like
northern leader William H. Seward, who fought to put the 15th amendment in place, is a positive
example for Americans to look to, and a representative of kindness. Seward was a white male
fighting for the opposite race and that is an example citizens of the United States should gear
themselves toward. Yes, William's actions were very beneficial towards granting African Americans
more rights, but beyond that they are a wonderful example of what kindness looks like. The United
States should be directed toward more

Citizens In The Film Pay It Forward
When most people think about what it means to be a citizen, they think about it in legal terms.
According to google, the definition of a citizen is to be "an inhabitant of a particular town or city."
What these people may or may not understand is that there are certain responsibilities expected from
citizens. The well known responsibilities of a citizen are voting, paying taxes, jury duty, etc. Being a
citizen means using your talents and gifts to help the community that you are a part of in order to
earn the rights that you are given. In the movie Pay It Forward there is a little boy named Trevor
who gets the assignment to try and change the world from his teacher. Trevor was a smart and
creative kid which enabled him to make a plan. His plan was to help three people so that each of
them would help three people and it would continue to spread. Trevor put a lot of effort into this
idea in order to help the people in his community including a homeless man, his mom, his teacher,
and another little boy who he saw being bullied. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kevin Spacey Research Paper
The star of House of Cards, Kevin Spacey, is well known as a famous screen actor and film director.
In 2003, he eventually branched off from film and found his way becoming the artistic director of
the Old Vic, one of London's oldest theatres. Although it may seem like his transition from film to
theatre was arbitrary, you could actually say it was something of familiar territory for him. In his
early years, Spacey was originally sent to military school. However, after being expelled for bad
behavior he transferred to Los Angeles' Chatsworth High School. There is where his interest in
acting really began, and it is also where he started his inexpert drama career. According to
biography.com, Spacey actually ended up graduating as co–valedictorian. He was then encouraged
to go to Juilliard, a performing arts conservatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He performed in Richard III, a Shakespeare production directed by Sam Mendes. Through all the
experience and training Spacey received in his lifetime, in this production he took his character to
the next level so to speak. In Richard III, Spacey used technique acting to precisely portray his
character as Richard. He worked on his outward appearance, like a humped back and twisted leg, in
order to help the audience visualize Richard and understand how his scarred personality develops.
As much as technique acting is the way to describe Spacey's acting development for Richard III, he
also didn't fall short in exposing Richards's emotional side during the production. I would say
Spacey is somewhat of an in between of method and technique acting. I say this because during the
time of Richard III death in the production, Spacey let the emotions of Richards sadness and
loneliness prevail. This actually plays a major part in completing one of the themes of the show,
which was Richard's entitlement of being the

Pay It Forward Movie Essay
Pay it Forward: Try it Instead of paying back a favor, what if you paid it forward by delivering a
different favor to someone else? And then that person would go on to help another. This utopian idea
is what drives the movie Pay it Forward. Although this tear jerking movie has its weak parts, it
provokes an intriguing theory that is considered to be idealistic, but essentially motivates the
audience to do good. Trevor McKinney, played by the prodigy actor Haley Joel Osmet is a gifted 7th
grade boy who lives with his mother Arlene on the outskirts of Las Vegas. Arlene, who is superbly
acted by Helen Hunt, struggles to make ends meet with her two waitressing jobs and her alcohol
addiction. On Trevor's first day of 7th grade, he is assigned ... Show more content on

And for these types of movie goers, it most likely did everything in that sorts to change their lives.
Yet, the idea of paying it forward can be considered unrealistic. You can't really have high
expectations for the world. In fact, Sidney (David Ramsey), another supporting cast member
effected by the movement said "The world is a shithole, pardon my French an' shit." Quite frankly,
Sidney is right. People are greedy and its hard to think paying it forward could be that effective,
because most people don't have the integrity to pass on the favor once they get what they want. With
that being said, the movie paints a story that is a little picture perfect. However, even if the idea of
paying it forward is idealistic, the movie sufficiently succeeded its goal to inspire and have the
audience to consider the idea. Although this movie is life changing, it doesn't change lives
completely through happiness. Bringing tissues to the movie might be a helpful tip. Most life
changing movies are impactful because of tragedy. And although this is true, this movie could of
done without it. The ending seems irrelevant and not entirely suited to the tone of the film. The
motivation to pay it forward was already casted upon the audience. Therefore, a tragic ending is
debatable depending on the

We Should Hunger For A Stronger Relationship With God
As Christians, a goal for learning is to develop one's ability to achieve our maximum potential to
pay it forward to others in our daily walk. Allowing God to lead us can help us within our
professional and personal lives. We should hunger for a stronger relationship with God. As we
journey through life, we should integrate God into all aspects such as school, play, work. We should
be committed to setting a good example of being leader, an exceptional student, and most of all
serving others. Integrating God allows us to know when to use the gifts God gave us to help others
and help continue to strive as a better person. We have to balance both allowing our faith to lead and

Adversity In Pay It Forward
Pay It Forward is a movie about one boys idea and determination to change the world. Eleven year
old Trevor McKinney is just now beginning the seventh grade. On the first day of school he is
introduce to his teacher Eugene Simonet. Mr. Simonet's first extra credit project that will go on all
through the school year is for the class to come up with an idea on how to change the world and put
it into an act. So Trevor comes up with the idea of "Pay It Forward" which is the concept where you
do acts of kindness to three random strangers and they are so inspired that they do three more acts of
kindness to three more random strangers and so on and so forth. So throughout the movie you see
Trevor's struggles and magnificent accomplishments. In the 2000 movie "Pay It Forward" represents
a clear analysis of over coming poverty from ignorance, ageism, classism, altruistic, discrimination,
and adversity.

An example of this is in the movie throughout the entire movie the social static is Trevor. The reason

movie, social dynamics is a phenomenon of change in society. For example the social dynamic of
the story is the change of everyone outlook and values because of the "Pay It Forward." Another
reference in the movie is to social darwinism, social darwinism is Charles Darwins theory of when

Pay It Forward Essay
After watching Pay It Forward, it was easy to parallel elements from the movie to communication in
general. Similarities between the cycle of paying it forward and communication can be easily
discussed through all of the definitions of communication. For the purpose of this paper, I will link
one of the oldest definitions of communication and paying to forward, to show the parallelism. The
ancient definition of communication defines communication as: the act of mutual giving and
receiving. This act of mutual giving and receiving is very apparent in the story told in the movie.
In order to communicate it is necessary for both people to, be willing to receive information and
furthermore then be willing and able to give information, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This same idea goes with giving a gift, as a gift can be a very private thing or a group of people can
contribute to giving the gift Lois Bujold a science fiction author said the following regarding gift
giving: " Try to give away what you want yourself." This is easily compared to communicating
because we should each try to communicate in the way we wish to be communicated with from
other people.
The Pay It Forward idea demonstrates the Habermasian ethic in a plethora of ways. The
Habermasian ethic refers the relationship between the ethical interaction between people promotes
autonomy and social responsibility. This idea is apparent in all aspects of the movie, but can be
easily seen in the particular part where the black gangster character gets help from the bum when
trying to run from the police. The black guy is surprised that the woman helped him and this small
act of kindness from the old woman resulted in the black guy helping a young girl having an asthma
attack at the hospital. Gangster are not typically viewed as being socially responsible and ethical
people, but the relationship between the bum and him caused him to do the socially responsible
thing of helping the girl, who was obviously in more need that himself. In each case of doing good
for another, in Pay It Forward, each person feels responsible to pay it forward and

Pay It Forward Movie Analysis
Many people either believe that they do not have what it takes to change the world, or they just
simply do not have the motivation. They do not know what qualities a person needs to have in order
to make a difference. It is essential for a citizen to be passionate about what they want to do to
promote change so that they have the motivation to work hard and persist. Pay it Forward is a movie
about a little boy who gets a school assignment that asks him to try and change the world. The boy,
Trevor, has the idea to show kindness to three people so that each of them spreads kindness to three
other people and so on. As Trevor kept working on his idea, he got more and more passionate about
it and shared it with his classmates. His classmates laughed at him but he kept trying. This shows
how he persisted because he believed in his idea so much. Trevor worked hard in order for his plan
to succeed by reaching out to a homeless man and setting his alcoholic mom up with his teacher so
that she is not lonely and has a good influence. In the end, his passion shows when he stands up for
a boy getting bullied and gets stabbed in the process. It is later shown how many people were

Pay It Forward Compassion
Does Paying It Forward Pay Off? Every day, gestures of genuine kindness can be seen all around,
ranging from the smallest acts of compassion, such as kids helping their mothers carry the groceries
to the car, or young men holding doors open for women, to more valiant examples, wherein citizens
of a town, both rich and poor, all come together to help with relief operations for a recent typhoon.
Notice that these kind deeds are seen everywhere at every moment in time. One of Catherine Hyde's
most classic movies "Pay It Forward", best illustrates how compassion influences other people, and
dictates their actions into spreading kindness unto others. Now one may ask how practicing altruism

This is due to the impact of the altruism experienced by individuals, which compel them to pay
forward the kindness to other people, starting the chain of compassion. This concept is further
proven by a study conducted on an episode of National Geographic's educational series Brain
Games entitled "Compassion", wherein the effect of compassion on individuals was tested and
observed. In the episode, several subjects were tasked to apply hot sauce of varying levels of
spiciness to an individual's meal, without that person knowing. After half of the subjects were
accidentally bumped by the main subject, the study found that 100% chose the highest level of
spiciness. However, the other half were shown compassion by the individual right after bumping
them by apologizing and offering to help them up, and 100% of the subjects chose the lowest level
of spiciness . The experiment found that once people witness and experience acts of kindness, they
are naturally inclined to show compassion to others as well ("Compassion"). Psychologist David R.
Hamilton from the Manchester Buddhist Center confirms that individuals who experience
compassion firsthand "...bring about chemical and structural changes to their [sic] brain that will
help to establish kindness circuits" (Hamilton 53–56). In

because in the movie, Trevor was trying to make a difference in the world by helping the homeless .
He didn't think that he succeeded because when he went to check up on him he didn't come out or to

Also, if you feel you're helping someone in any way even if it's harmful you may still feel good
about helping them. You shouldn't though because it's not good for them. You don't always feel great
while doing good things. It's weird to actually think of it that way. You'd think that someone would
feel amazing if they're doing good things for people instead of barely feeling anything about it. It's
easier to give someone alcohol or drugs to make them happy rather than trying to do something
that's better for them and try to make them happy that way. You don't want to make someone go
further in their addiction or their bad habits if it's harming them or someone else. That's not paying it
forward at all .That's like taking it back, making someone take steps back if they're trying to better
themselves. You want to pay it forward instead of making someone fall back to their bad habits or
addiction . To pay it forward means to try to better someone by doing something good for them. Ex:
mowing an elderly neighbor's lawn because they aren't in the best shape ; help carry some groceries
in . Just some simple things could change someone's life a little. It could easily make someone's
opinion of this generation change. To pay it back means to do something good in return for someone

Addiction And Poverty In The Movie : Pay It Forward :...
Pay it Forward is a movie that deals with many controversial topics such as addiction and poverty in
a way that explains how we are able to help solve them. The movie starts out with Eugene Simonet
assigning his junior high history class an extra credit opportunity. For the extra credit assignment,
they must come up with a way to change the world and to put it into action. Most of the children
don't take the assignment seriously, believing that it is impossible. However, Trevor McKinney takes
it upon himself to change the world with a plan he calls "Pay It Forward". His plan goes on to help
many people in the United States, including Jerry, a homeless man whom he helps get off drugs, his
mother, Arlene, who is an alcoholic, and Mr. Simonet who has issues with his past. Long after the
assignment, Trevor believes that his plan for "Pay It Forward" has failed because he could not get
enough people to participate. However, a news reporter from Los Angeles tracks the movement to
Trevor, who is in Las Vegas. The "Pay It Forward" concept developed by Trevor required that a
person assist someone with a major favor. In return, the person will ask for the recipient of the favor
to "pay it forward". To pay the action forward, the person must assist three more people with a large
favor. The theory is that this will cause the movement to grow exponentially and to eventually
change the world. This theory is reliant on the fact that everyone who is asked to pay it forward

The Importance Of Youth Sports
Research Paper: The Importance of Youth Sports Youth sports can have a great impact on one's life,
whether it be physical, mental or emotional. The impact they have on character, winning, and fun,
however, beats all. These factors all play an influential role in youth sports. What many don't
understand is that winning isn't everything. Everyone can win when playing sports by having fun
while in addition, by building relationships and in turn, character. Winning doesn't have to be one's
top priority despite the positives that can arise from them. Sports, in general, "help youth become
better contributors to society" (Importance). Sports have also shown to help youth improve their
social interaction skills, their confidence, their skills, and their overall health. They are also linked to
higher grades, lower dropout rates, and lower crime/drug rates furthermore. They can teach youth
how to deal with pressure, how to get along with others, and how to play by the rules. Overall, youth
sports help children learn how to pay it forward: to contribute to something bigger than themselves.
Winning isn't everything. That's what I have had to tell myself over and over when I played sports.
Although this statement may seem simple, it's hard to maintain in the mind of an athlete today.
Today's society has put great pressure on athletes to win as I have studied. Reasons include money,
fame, image, and much more. In the past, however, money wasn't an issue. Athletes played because

Many of you will remember the film 'Pay it forward. ' For those of you who don 't, in short it is a
film about doing good to others, without the expectation of remuneration in any form. The principle
of doing unto others as you 'd have done unto yourself. This feel–good film took the globe by storm
and gave many of us some real food for thought. This basic idea is one that is taught in many
spiritual doctrines and has changed the lives of sinners & sages alike. People who live by it, swear
by it. You might be one of those who know its power, or someone who 'd like to discover it. This,
however is not all this story is about. I 'll tell you why I say so:
About a year ago, my boyfriend and I had split up. The cause for this had many elements that
culminated to deliver the last blow. He was away from home often, I wasn 't happy where we lived,
our lives were quite stressful etc. etc. etc. You know the story. I was left devastated, with the wind
completely knocked out of my sails so to speak. One morning I was standing in the shower when I

Movie Review : Pay It Forward
If we could choose one thing to change the world, one way we thought we could fix all the world 's
problems, what would it be? This is the thought of the movie Pay it Forward. This movie tackles
what a small child 's (Trevor) idea of changing the world could be from his point of view. The movie
also tackles themes of alcoholism, bullying, and insecurity.
Pay it Forward starts in a very interesting way; a news reporter's car is wrecked, and a man gives
him a brand new car, saying simply call it a favor between two strangers and "pay it forward." This
idea then proceeds throughout the story as the reporter traces the origins back to Trevor(Haley
Osment) and the origin of the pay it forward mindset. It is an assignment given by his teacher, Mr.
Eugene (Kevin Spacey) for each child in the room to find a way to change the world. Throughout
the movie, this theme is elaborated on, and in many cases, it seems to backfire, only to work out for
the better of the film. The acting in this film is phenomenal. Kevin Spacey gives an inspiring
performance, while Haley Osment provides the innocent kid that is neglected but has a great idea to
perfection. Arlene (Helen Hunt) could have done a better job of seeming more into the role at
sometimes she seemed detached to me and that would have made it all around amazing acting wise.
Trevor's mother, who is recovering from alcoholism, doesn't seem to have a good relationship with
her son. He encourages her to quit drinking as it brings more

  • 1. My Place by Sally Morgan, The Road Not Taken by Robert... The Journey as Depicted in My Place by Sally Morgan, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, The Transall Saga and Pay it Forward The inner journey is a concept that has always been debated, and so has its meaning. The word 'inner' has the alternative meaning of personal. Moreover, the word journey has an alternative meaning of movement. So, the concept of the inner journey, customarily, has the meaning of a personal movement. Inner journeys have often been described as the metaphor behind a physical journey. The statement 'Journey is the reward' and the idea of a personal movement are depicted in the texts, My Place by Sally Morgan, The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, The Transall Saga and Pay it Forward. 'My Place' is the autobiographical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It must be noted that inner journeys are plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that no one can escape. As Robert Frost says in 'The Road Not Taken', 'Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.' In Sally's quest for information, she met a lady called 'Elsie' who gave her a great depth and insight into her Grandmother and the past. In Sally's mind, her journey was definitely rewarded and this made her feel 'full inside'. Sally's mother, Gladys, had also found an new sense of fulfillment which completed her as a whole, because she was previously only 'half a person'. For Sally, it was her determination and 'stubborn' nature which meant that she was rewarded, because in her heart she realized that unless the family went on such an epic journey 'we never would have known our place'. Sally said 'What had begun as a tentative search for knowledge had grown into a spiritual and emotional pilgrimage'. This journey of self discovery, enlightenment and acceptance, were all key discerning factors in how, for Sally, the journey was a rewarding experience. The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, is another text which represents how the journey, alone, can be a rewarding experience. The Road Not Taken, is the poem about a man who is exploring the choices that he once had, as he made his journey through lfe. It is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Examples Of Functionalism In Pay It Forward The film Pay it forward depicts a 7th grade boy, Trevor, who is given an assignment from a social studies teacher. The assignment is to create a way to make the world a better place in which Trevor comes up with paying it forward. To pay I forward Trevor helps one person and challenges them to help 3 more people eventually getting everyone who helps others challenge someone else to pay it forward. Through his mothers' alcoholism and his teachers' support Trevor helps people throughout his state to another pay it forward. The film Pay it forward represents sociological perspectives such as Functionalism, conflict perspective, and symbolic interactionism. Pay it forward represents functionalism, the approach that emphasizes the contributions made by each part of society to keep it functioning smoothly, in each characters lifestyle and background. Society uses functionalism to understand what they are doing themselves. We depend on an overall consensus of beliefs and values, mechanical solidarity, to give our lives its value. In the dramaturgy, Arlene is a perfect example of someone using mechanical solidarity working a degrading job also allowing sexism to be a part of what values she has for herself. Society also is dependent on the specialization of roles, organic solidarity. The 7th graders not believing they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of conflict perspective would be Arlene's reaction to the homeless man she found in her garage that Trevor brought home to "pay it forward." Arlene threatened the man with a gun and even called him names because she was clueless on his intentions and society has told her it is not normal for someone to randomly come fix your car. Also the depiction shows social conflict with the homeless/alcohol and drug abusers, being set apart and unassociated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Adversity Negative Effects Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and minor levels of the past, present and in fiction. We often see in all aspects the negatives that adversity leads to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from the Columbian exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times' article by Andrew E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russia faces after a long time of recession. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde's "Pay it Forward" One will read about the emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in success. The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. "The Columbian Exchange" by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came generations after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1: "Smallpox was the worst and most spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the ... • 7. College Admissions Essay: Pay It Forward Pay It Forward Do you ever feel like you could do more for people in need? Because I do a lot but I feel like I could do more things for the people in need . It all started from watching my Dad and Mom. My Dad was a guy to be on your doorstep if anything went wrong, for example if my next door neighbor fell he would be over there helping him up. Another thing my Dad does is push snow for the neighbors or go help pick up trees after a storms blew through and he also does a ton of more things. My Mom makes apple pies and other kinds of goodies and brings them to people in the new neighborhood, new babies or the sick. I also load grain bins and then trucks, this takes a lot of time to watch. I hate cleaning out almost empty grain bins, it is dusty and dirty plus hot. We all work together to make things go smooth. I am the youngest and fastest as my co workers are pushing 60 years. We all climb the grain elevator to service the belts and change motor oil, we do it the hard way as tools in a 5 gallon bucket to pull up with ropes. It is a work out and exhausting but makes me stronger. We clean up equipment and trucks making things look like brand new, elbow grease! • 9. Pay It Forward Reflection Humans are more connected than they have ever been. Under these circumstances, people can impact those around them more easily and more profoundly than they might imagine. This impact is prominently displayed in children, who typically adopt the mannerisms of their parents, for better or for worse. However, humans impact those they do not closely interact with as well, and it is because of this that one must carefully consider each decision. When society discusses the impact that people have on one another, they generally speak about the conscious decisions that people make to change another's life. These, like all things, can be good or bad. In the movie Pay it Forward, Trevor made a choice to positively impact the lives of three people. He chose to let a homeless man stay in his house, help two people find love, and stop the abuse of a friend. In all of these actions, Trevor succeeded in making the lives of others better, even when it was to his detriment. This movie has inspired many people to make a difference in the lives of others. Similarly, there has been a story circulating the Internet recently that features a kindergartener who realized that her classmates did not have money to buy milk. She decided that she would use her own allowance to help these kids. She inspired so many that she was able to raise over $9,000 for her cause on GoFundMe. Perhaps her classmates will remember this good deed and will feel motivated to do the same when they are older. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Jodee Parker's Please Stop Laughing At Me Many people believe the world could always become a better place, but never do anything about it. Jodee Blanco, Trevor McKinney, and George Washington are exceptions. Please Stop Laughing at Me.. is a book written by Jodee Blanco, telling her story of abuse and torment, and how even through thick and thin, she would always reach out and help a person in need. Pay it Forward, a movie starring Trevor McKinney, tells the story of a seventh grade boy assigned with changing the world. Our founding father, George Washington, led our country to war for what he believed was right, democracy. Jodee Blanco, Trevor McKinney, and George Washington all started as average people, but decided to stand up for what was right and make the world a better place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For many years of her childhood, she was constantly teased and abused because she was different. Even through the abuse, Jodee always stayed kind and caring. One person she helped was her high school friend Noreen. Jodee befriended the lonely girl in her speech class, later she learned how much it helped Noreen. Noreen, just like Jodee, was constantly harassed for being different, leading her to have no friends at the high school. Jodee gave Noreen someone to share her pain with, and gave her someone she could trust in. Another person Jodee helped was Marianne. Jodee helped her by working with the deaf children at Holy Ascension, treating Marianne like the little sister she never had. She was an outcast from regular children and the deaf children as well. This was due to the fact that even compared to the deaf kids she was different, and they couldn't understand her."... A small bungalow, though the home was in need of repair, the yard was well tended" (Blanco 27)This made what Jodee did even more important, because Marianne wasn't exactly the most wealthy, so she had a life just as bad at home as at school, meaning so much more to have Jodee act as her big sister.. Throughout the story the respondent is left wondering the reason behind the family's silence towards each other. This statement only reinforces the idea that the core text, My Place, clearly depicts how the journey is the reward. Sally Morgan uses a wide range of different techniques to convey her physical and internal movement to disclose her family heritage and her own identity. The book itself is structured in a completely original format. Sally has managed to make her story stand out by separating each individual story, thus, the book is separated into her own story, her Uncle Arthur's story, her mother's story and finally, her grandmother's story. It must be noted that inner journeys are plagued with choices, and this is a truth and reality that no one can escape. • 15. The Pros And Cons Of Socrates While my experience with faith has been positive, it is important to keep the possibility of negative effects into consideration. For example, Socrates was charged for impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens. Meletus, one of his accusers, strongly believed in the gods of Olympus, however, his opinions and beliefs regarding faith led to the killing of the innocent Socrates. "I turn to the second class, who are headed by Meletus, that good and patriotic man, as he calls himself... What do they say? Something of this sort: – That Socrates is a doer of evil, and corrupter of the youth, and he does not believe in the gods of the state, and has other new divinities of his own." According to this quotation from Plato's Apology, Meletus considers himself to be a "good and patriotic man." However, The accusations made against Socrates suggest that he is not all "good." These accusations demonstrate how faith can sometimes lead one to become narrow minded and too consumed with their own faith, which can then result in a disrespect towards those with different beliefs. In addition, a personal and subjective faith in the spiritual has the possibility of going in the wrong direction and be ungrounded and lead to error. The different views towards Meletus relates to Descartes' Meditation II and the wax argument. "It could certainly be nothing of all that the senses brought to my notice, since all these things which fall under taste, smell, sight, touch, and hearing, are found to be ... Both examples from the movie, Pay it Forward and from actual history prove that the world could change due to a single idea. An example of an idea changing the world could be found in the movie, Pay it Forward. In the movie, a 12–year–old boy, Trevor, came up with the idea of helping three people with something they couldn't have done by themselves and in return each of them had to help three people with something they couldn't do by themselves (paying the favor forward). Trevor first attempts this idea by taking in a homeless man. The homeless man in return, repaired the car Trevor's mom was trying to sell. • 19. Troubles In Pay It Forward Having troubles in one's lives can be shown in many ways, such as events in the past, events that are occurring today, or in novels. During the time of the Renaissance, a humanist named Francesco Petrarca discusses his journey of climbing a mountain which is a metaphor for reaching success, although he encounters troubles and doubts, he overcame them and succeeded. A bold woman named Kristina Erikson has been sexually harassed twice, and instead of not telling anyone and letting this event eat her alive, she spoke up and has made a difference for many college women. From the novel titled as Pay It Forward, a young boy named Trevor experiences disbeliefs along the way of the growth of his new project. With individuality, you are still expected to meet some criteria, at that point is it still individuality? You are also supposed to be yourself, but don't be yourself too much because then you will be an outcast and society won't like you. In Pay It Forward I saw this happen to my favourite character Gordie. Now Gordie was just being himself, he knew that the moment a "boy" dressed like a "girl" it would cause conflict. Gordie just wanted to be Gordie or Sheila but society wouldn't have it that way. Gordie is one of the stronger characters in this novel. But when come down to it, when yourself is not something that fits societies standards things happen and people get hurt. You get picked on, beaten up, sexually assaulted, and sometimes killed. Gordie is a powerful character he didn't stop being himself, no matter what it meant for him. When society doesn't like you, don't stop being you. There is only one of you and you have to stand up for yourself and be true to who you are. The Gordie character shows how messed up society can treat a person. He shows how important the fight for LGBT+ rights was during this time. Summary Of Pay It Forward By Catherine Hyde Summary: Pay It Forward, written by Catherine Hyde, is about a boy named Trevor who was tasked by his teacher create a plan that would better the world. Trevor then devised the "Pay It Forward" program, a branching system of good deeds under the notion that instead of paying back a favor, a person would instead do favors of high importance for three other people. Although his first favor attempt with a homeless man appeared to have failed, Trevor's second favor for his teacher began a chain of events that lead to the sparing of one's man life. When watching the movie one flaw that I saw in "pay–it–forwardism" is how Trevor brought a homeless man into his home. Trevor provides the homeless man with food, shower, and somewhere to sleep, but Trevor does not know that the homeless man is a drug addict. Bringing a drug addict into his house put himself and his mother life into danger and at serious risk because drug–addicts tend to steal and physically hurt others who have more than them. One magical moment in Pay it Forward, occurs when Mr. Simonet and Arlene kiss for the first time – a distraught mother at rock bottom with alcohol and work, and her son's astute social studies teacher, turned lovers. Scandalous! The movie Pay it Forward was directed by Mimi Leder, and produced by Warner Brothers Studio in 2000. Pay it Forward has been rated two out of five stars by Rotten Tomatoes, and three and a half out of five stars by IMDb. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One criterion of a good movie is its use of dynamic character development. This can be seen in the scene where Arlene's ex–husband, Ricky (Jon Bon Jovi) returns home. He becomes drunk and starts verbally abusing Arlene and threatening Trevor. No longer a submissive wife, she quickly throws Ricky out of the house. Arlene has learned to protect herself and her son, rather than please a man. Another example is the development of Mr. Simonet. In the beginning of the movie, he was a harsh teacher who showed little sympathy. Through his relationship with Arlene, Mr. Simonet grows to be compassionate and sympathetic towards the McKinney's situation. This use of dynamic character development implies a sense of motion and drives the plot. Furthermore, the musical selection for a movie is just as important as the plot. Without music, there would be no suspense or drama. For example, when Trevor is in his room hiding from his parents yelling, he turns on the radio to listen to "Last Resort" by Papa Roach. The song is about wanting to end the internal suffering and agony through self–harm and/or suicide. The lyrics, I'm contemplating suicide 'Cause I'm losing my sight Losing my mind Wish somebody would tell me I'm fine are important to the scene because they convey Trevor's emotional struggle. Trevor yearns for his mother to be happy and free from Ricky, but Trevor wants to be happy as well. Using music, Robert Townson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As well as coming up with an idea, the students also have to put it into action. Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know nor understand how a kid his age can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from school, he passes up a site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can change the world comes to him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help three, and so on. This begins his plan to "Pay it Forward." The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by Mimi Leder at Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG–13 drama. Starring in this movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt (Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment (Trevor McKinney), Jon Bon Jovi (Arlene's husband), and Angie Dickinson (Arlene's mother). The main idea of the movie is for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and do it not just talk about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out bigger than he could have imagined. Similarities between the cycle of paying it forward and communication can be easily discussed through all of the definitions of communication. For the purpose of this paper, I will link one of the oldest definitions of communication and paying to forward, to show the parallelism. The ancient definition of communication defines communication as: the act of mutual giving and receiving. This act of mutual giving and receiving is very apparent in the story told in the movie. This is easily compared to communicating because we should each try to communicate in the way we wish to be communicated with from other people. The Pay It Forward idea demonstrates the Habermasian ethic in a plethora of ways. The Habermasian ethic refers the relationship between the ethical interaction between people promotes autonomy and social responsibility. This idea is apparent in all aspects of the movie, but can be easily seen in the particular part where the black gangster character gets help from the bum when trying to run from the police. The black guy is surprised that the woman helped him and this small act of kindness from the old woman resulted in the black guy helping a young girl having an asthma attack at the hospital. Gangster are not typically viewed as being socially responsible and ethical people, but the relationship between the bum and him caused him to do the socially responsible thing of helping the girl, who was obviously in more need that himself. In the episode, several subjects were tasked to apply hot sauce of varying levels of spiciness to an individual's meal, without that person knowing. After half of the subjects were accidentally bumped by the main subject, the study found that 100% chose the highest level of spiciness. However, the other half were shown compassion by the individual right after bumping them by apologizing and offering to help them up, and 100% of the subjects chose the lowest level of spiciness . The experiment found that once people witness and experience acts of kindness, they are naturally inclined to show compassion to others as well ("Compassion"). Psychologist David R. Hamilton from the Manchester Buddhist Center confirms that individuals who experience compassion firsthand "...bring about chemical and structural changes to their [sic] brain that will help to establish kindness circuits" (Hamilton 53–56). • 61. Don 'T Make A Difference In The Film Pay It Forward' After watching Pay it Forward, it shows me that you don't always have to know if you made a difference or not . The reason i don't think that you have to know if you made a difference or not because in the movie, Trevor was trying to make a difference in the world by helping the homeless . He didn't think that he succeeded because when he went to check up on him he didn't come out or to the door. He could feel he didn't make a difference . After a while, he ended up making a difference through him because the homeless man helped the lady that was going to commit suicide . He talked her out of doing it and talked her into going and getting coffee with him. So therefore no, you don't always have to know whether or not you made a difference or ... You shouldn't though because it's not good for them. You don't always feel great while doing good things. It's weird to actually think of it that way. You'd think that someone would feel amazing if they're doing good things for people instead of barely feeling anything about it. It's easier to give someone alcohol or drugs to make them happy rather than trying to do something that's better for them and try to make them happy that way. You don't want to make someone go further in their addiction or their bad habits if it's harming them or someone else. That's not paying it forward at all .That's like taking it back, making someone take steps back if they're trying to better themselves. You want to pay it forward instead of making someone fall back to their bad habits or addiction . To pay it forward means to try to better someone by doing something good for them. Ex: mowing an elderly neighbor's lawn because they aren't in the best shape ; help carry some groceries in . Just some simple things could change someone's life a little. It could easily make someone's opinion of this generation change. To pay it back means to do something good in return for someone doing a good deed for you . That is what we're going to talk about now. We want to get what this is for you. We're just going to do a mental experiment. Imagine yourself nine years from now when you've completed your service in the Colorado legislature. Imagine yourself leaving the Capitol for the last time. As you walk down those Capitol steps you turn and look back. You are moved by what the years of service that you provided the people Colorado and what now is available for them, what is the legacy that you left? What is now possible because you chose to stand up and be counted? What is that? Malie: Well that could be a lot of things. I think that public service the most important point. It's not about making money, it's not about being rich and famous, it's about public service. In my life it's an opportunity for me to kind of pay it forward because I had a lot of help along the way. My story will come out. I was on my own 16 and I can pay it forward, which I do everyday in my business, which is why I'm passionate about my business. I'm one of maybe few financial investment managers who are in it for my clients and for me to get rich. So I take on clients that I know aren't going to make me money because who else is going to help these people. When I'm walking out of the Capitol building it will be like I have spent the last nine years paying it forward. The legacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Addiction And Poverty In The Movie : Pay It Forward :... Pay it Forward is a movie that deals with many controversial topics such as addiction and poverty in a way that explains how we are able to help solve them. The movie starts out with Eugene Simonet assigning his junior high history class an extra credit opportunity. For the extra credit assignment, they must come up with a way to change the world and to put it into action. Most of the children don't take the assignment seriously, believing that it is impossible. However, Trevor McKinney takes it upon himself to change the world with a plan he calls "Pay It Forward". His plan goes on to help many people in the United States, including Jerry, a homeless man whom he helps get off drugs, his mother, Arlene, who is an alcoholic, and Mr. Simonet who has issues with his past. Long after the assignment, Trevor believes that his plan for "Pay It Forward" has failed because he could not get enough people to participate. However, a news reporter from Los Angeles tracks the movement to Trevor, who is in Las Vegas. The "Pay It Forward" concept developed by Trevor required that a person assist someone with a major favor. In return, the person will ask for the recipient of the favor to "pay it forward". To pay the action forward, the person must assist three more people with a large favor. The theory is that this will cause the movement to grow exponentially and to eventually change the world. This theory is reliant on the fact that everyone who is asked to pay it forward actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. The Importance Of Youth Sports Research Paper: The Importance of Youth Sports Youth sports can have a great impact on one's life, whether it be physical, mental or emotional. The impact they have on character, winning, and fun, however, beats all. These factors all play an influential role in youth sports. What many don't understand is that winning isn't everything. Everyone can win when playing sports by having fun while in addition, by building relationships and in turn, character. Winning doesn't have to be one's top priority despite the positives that can arise from them. Sports, in general, "help youth become better contributors to society" (Importance). Sports have also shown to help youth improve their social interaction skills, their confidence, their skills, and their overall health. They are also linked to higher grades, lower dropout rates, and lower crime/drug rates furthermore. They can teach youth how to deal with pressure, how to get along with others, and how to play by the rules. Overall, youth sports help children learn how to pay it forward: to contribute to something bigger than themselves. Winning isn't everything. That's what I have had to tell myself over and over when I played sports. Although this statement may seem simple, it's hard to maintain in the mind of an athlete today. Today's society has put great pressure on athletes to win as I have studied. Reasons include money, fame, image, and much more. In the past, however, money wasn't an issue. Athletes played because they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

' For those of you who don 't, in short it is a film about doing good to others, without the expectation of remuneration in any form. The principle of doing unto others as you 'd have done unto yourself. This feel–good film took the globe by storm and gave many of us some real food for thought. This basic idea is one that is taught in many spiritual doctrines and has changed the lives of sinners & sages alike. People who live by it, swear by it. You might be one of those who know its power, or someone who 'd like to discover it. This, however is not all this story is about. I 'll tell you why I say so: About a year ago, my boyfriend and I had split up. The cause for this had many elements that culminated to deliver the last blow. He was away from home often, I wasn 't happy where we lived, our lives were quite stressful etc. etc. etc. You know the story. • 78. Movie Review : Pay It Forward If we could choose one thing to change the world, one way we thought we could fix all the world 's problems, what would it be? This is the thought of the movie Pay it Forward. This movie tackles what a small child 's (Trevor) idea of changing the world could be from his point of view. The movie also tackles themes of alcoholism, bullying, and insecurity. Pay it Forward starts in a very interesting way; a news reporter's car is wrecked, and a man gives him a brand new car, saying simply call it a favor between two strangers and "pay it forward." This idea then proceeds throughout the story as the reporter traces the origins back to Trevor(Haley Osment) and the origin of the pay it forward mindset. It is an assignment given by his teacher, Mr. Eugene (Kevin Spacey) for each child in the room to find a way to change the world. Throughout the movie, this theme is elaborated on, and in many cases, it seems to backfire, only to work out for the better of the film. The acting in this film is phenomenal. Kevin Spacey gives an inspiring performance, while Haley Osment provides the innocent kid that is neglected but has a great idea to perfection. Arlene (Helen Hunt) could have done a better job of seeming more into the role at sometimes she seemed detached to me and that would have made it all around amazing acting wise. Trevor's mother, who is recovering from alcoholism, doesn't seem to have a good relationship with her son. He encourages her to quit drinking as it brings more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
