1. Question 1: In what ways does your
media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?

Teaser Trailer: Our teaser trailer lasted for 1 minute and 52
seconds. This was because the other teaser trailers that we
analysed were around 2 minutes long which meant that our
teaser would be similar in length. Some of the teaser trailers
that we looked at were Mean Girls, Perks of being a Wallflower,
The Duff as well as Wild Child. The reason we looked at these
trailers was because they are teen dramas and mainly aimed at
females which is what we were going for. The editing style that
we used was quick cuts because we wanted to show the different
emotions of each character to the audience. We added in sound
effects to our trailer in order to make the actions more effective.
Such as knocking on doors and footsteps. We also added in two
different sound tracks to play over the other sound effects. The
first one is more serious and intense whereas the second one
come in to lighten the mood and make the clip seem like more of
a teen drama and not a thriller.

Poster: The layout of our poster is simple because we didn’t want to take
the audiences attention away from the main characters. We have an
extreme close up of Ashleigh and Molly on either side, however we
cropped the image so that it was only showing half of the girls face.
Another reason why we put Ashleigh and Molly together is because in
our teaser trailer they are best friends and therefore we wanted to
suggest this to the audience through the poster.
We then layered another image on top of Chloe as she was the ‘mean girl’
in our trailer and we wanted the audience to we captured by her.
• We stuck with the colors red, black and
white because these are the colors that
relate to our film. The title is in a big bold
text and is in red because we wanted it to
stand out from all of the other information
on the poster. We put the billing block in
white as we wanted it to be a light colour
that showed upwell with the dark
background. Lastly, we included a plug at
the to of the poster in a red simple text so
that it draws the audience in and makes
them more interested in the film.

Magazine Cover: The magazine cover doesn’t have a background as
we wanted to keep it quite simple and we wanted everything to
stand out. This allows the audience to focus on the information that
the magazine is displaying. It also meant that we didn’t have to
worry about colors clashing with each other because the background
was plane.
We kept with the same, typical magazine
cover you would see as in we decided to
put the title of the film in the middle of
the magazine going across the main image
which takes up the whole of the front
cover. We then placed the names of the
magazine distribution company at the top
of the cover page and sent it behind the
main image so that the characters face
wasn’t blocked out. In addition to this, we
added a few plugs and quotes on the sides
of the magazine in order to get out
audiences attention and make them want
to buy the magazine. We placed the
barcode in the bottom right corner so that
no information was blocked out.
5. Institutional
Conventions
I expect a media product to match the type of
organisation the film is from. Some media texts aim
to attract a broad audience while others are for niche
audiences with a specific interest. Businesses would
have to do an overview of how different media
industries such as blockbusters and British
independent films work together. Advertising can be
presented in many forms from TV adverts, to radio
songs, to internet pop ups as well as billboards. The
relationship between audiences and media texts is
constantly evolving therefore we need to ensure that
the organisations stay up to date with their target
audiences and other requirements and ensue that
they are satisfying their customers.
Expecting a companies information to be presented in
media they must ensure that they Stay on topic ,
Legal and Regulatory Issues, Comment Moderation
and Response, Medical and Professional Advice, and
any other Additional Considerations.
6. Genre
Conventions
For products in this genre, I would expect to see characters that are
in their teens or are young adults. This is because teen dramas need
to reach their target audience and this will be don’t through the
right characters, narrative, setting and locations that are used. The
gender of the characters also plays an important role because it is
one of the main things that the audience looks for. For example, if
it’s a chick flick then the film typically includes female charters
because they are aiming at for the female market. The teen dramas
that include more action and is more thrilling would typically have
more male characters because the target audience is mostly boys.
The narrative of these films should be simple and the film shouldn’t
be overly complicated. The typography should be fun and colorful as
this is what would attract a young audience and this is what would
make them interested in reading the posters as well as wanting to
watch the film.
For settings and location, teen dramas are normally filmed in a
school or at home and other places where teens are on the daily.
This is important in films because it helps the target audience relate
to the characters in the film and understand how they are feeling
and what is going on. It will draw a bigger audience if the film
includes these requirements.

TeaserTrailer
The title of the film – the title of the film is ‘She Knows’ and we decide on
this name because it gives the audience a hint as to what the film may be
about.
Setting/location –we filmed our trailer within the college and included the
refectory and corridors to make it seem as realistic as possible.
Costumes and props – we wanted to include the typical things a student
would use and wear therefore the characters wore normally everyday
clothes and the props we used included school bags and books.
Camerawork – when we were filming we covered a range of different shots
and angles such as close ups and tracking shots, tilts and many more. We
also used close ups in the trailer as well as the posters in order to ensure
that the audience could really see how the characters were feeling and they
were able to relate.
Title font and style – titles that we have used in the teaser were the
production company, names of the people involved in the whole process as
well as the narrative information such as ‘coming soon’ and ‘the secret’ so
that the audience knew what was going on and made them wonder what
the film may be about. We had a tagline on the poster to lure the
audience. On the cover of the posters we used wording such as ‘teen drama
with a twist’ and we used this wording colour simple so that it would match
the layout of the poster and cover page.
Characters are introduced in the beginning of the teaser and are portrayed
in a way that they are presented in the film.
We have a company Ident to locate the viewer to the film producers.
